#dickens travels #teehee #been here nine days and flying nine hours home tomorrow #got to see Jenn and talk old fandom and fic and now I feel like working on Ages on the plane #also the kids have become really great travelers #we flew LA to Montrael to Dublin then London and trained to Edinburgh #flew back to Dublin and tomorrow to Vancouver San Francisco and home #and they’re just chill the whole time #all that California driving has truly paid off

What are some things you like the most about the sea?

I was once in love with a girl who reminded me of the sea and now every sea in the world is her.

#the sea #no other reason to be honest #but then there's the ocean #the ocean is a whole different thing #the vastness of it #when the wind vaguely smells of sea salt in november in moscow #and is unusually high (I don't know if there's a term for it. you can see when it's the same on the ground and in the clouds) #(it's not normally like that) #and you check the wind map #and yes there's a single wind mass stretching from norway to the midlle of the continent #the embodiment of distance #also #sitting on a mountaintop in west ireland #being knocked off your feet by the wind #watching weather for the next week coming from over the ocean #clouds forming #those smell of ice and eternal spring #and then going back to dublin the next morning and watching it arrive there too #just generally the presence of something enormous always looming over the island #even if it's a 4 hour drive away you still sense it #I guess I like the ocean because of the wind #and how sky reflects the ocean #(not the other way around as is often thought)

there is a special place in hell for this couple that occupied the disabled seats on this bus with their fucking equipment for god knows what

#every time i am on a bus (almost every day) i get comsumed by rage seeing people occupy the seats for disabled people #and like yes i know there are invisible disabilities. i am aware as an invisible disability haver #but i can tell you for sure most people just sit on whatever seat without caring if it's not for them #there is surely a small percentage of the people i see sitting on disabled seats that need it even if it's not visible #but it IS small #and it drives me insane like. it costs you nothing to sit in another seat. nothing #god i hate these ppl. i've had times when i was in a lot of pain and was debating whether i could use the disabled seats #and i didn't in the end! they're not even more comfortable or anything anyway most of the time lmao they're mostly for people with #reduced mobility bc they're close to the exists and then there's the spot for wheelchair users #and people who need more space in general. which you guessed it gets used by people who don't need it #alllll the time #when i was in dublin on a bus a person with a cane got on and none of the people sitting in the disabled seats got up #again sure maybe someone needed it and you couldn't tell #but i am sure at least one of them could've gotten up for that person who CLEARLY needed the space and the distance from the exit #i got up but my seat wasn't ideal - no one else got up tho #the person thanked me and i was like no worries which wasn't even SUPER true bc i had a hard time with my back in that moment #and could've used sitting #but like if it's between me - who can stand up on a bus without risking falling down and hurting myself - and that person? i'll stand up #but if people didn't occupy disabled seats when they don't need them there would not be that problem!! there wouldn't be two disabled people #possibly without a seat!!!! #and god at the VERY LEAST abled people could leave their seat to a disabled person when there is one getting on the bus!!!! it's like the #bare minimum i'm so mad people can't even do that #i don't see this much here but i mostly take the bus in my town during not so busy hours so there are almost always free seats #i'm sure it does happen here too. and everywhere #fucking furious #nico.txt

this ireland trip i’m planning for this year is turning into one big family trip :’)

#my aunt is going with. now got some cousins who are wanting to go as well!! #and have an uncle interested in going too. so this is turning into one big fam trip lmao #i tried to convince my dad to go too but he's all 'idk about the 7 hrs on a plane part' #it's a redeye flight so pretty much just SLEEP on the way there #far as i know we will be the first in my family to return to ireland since 1850s #i can't wait to explore dublin! and visit our ancestral castles in northern ireland! and drive along the atlantic coastline #don't mind sakizm

I know. I know. I live in a tiny country where you can still technically fly from Donegal to Dublin and Kerry to Dublin. I don’t know who takes those journeys. But it does take over 5 hours to get the train from Kerry to Dublin and over 12 hours to get from west Donegal to Dublin because there are no trains. But we have shifty infrastructure. Seville to Madrid do not.

#both of those drives (Kerry to Dublin and Donegal to Dublin) are three and a half hours #so literally driving or flying is better than public transport in west of Ireland 🙄 #jb

#going there with my mom for spring break!! and we are trying to decide what to do #we're flying into shannon bc it was cheaper and i think she knows the west coast better bc she lived there for a bit in like the 90s #and my school does have a study abroad in ireland which is in dublin so i figured i could try to get to that and then go there then #but anyway it seems that ALLLLL the illuminated manuscripts are in dublin PLEASE i just want to see sme...... #by far one of my fav parts of art history #it's a 2.5 hour drive from galway to dublin and personally i do not think my mom would be willing to drive 5 hours round trip for it #and im not allowed to drive a rental car :/ SAD ! i really wanted to bc i wanted to try driving on that side of the road #talkin

#ordered loads of clothes online on my annual leave but got them delivered to my office bc im stupid #so now ive to drive to dublin tomorrow instead of taking the bus bc i fully expect it to be at LEAST 2 large boxes #and im not carting those half way round the city to get to bus aras #me being on leave is relevant bc i didn't go anywhere so was spending money like there was no tomorrow and justifying it to myself like #'its cheaper than a holiday away hahaha' #😭 #and now im making this obscenely long tag post instead of preparing my laptop bag
