#Dr. Anthony Fauci
Text
You might assume that Dr. Anthony Fauci, after 54 years working at the National Institutes of Health and helping save countless lives, has retired so he can rest. However, Dr. Fauci doesn’t have time to retire.
Last month, Fauci joined Georgetown University School of Medicine’s Department of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases as a Distinguished Professor. He was also appointed to the university’s McCourt School of Public Policy.
“I’ve also been busy lecturing and writing my memoir, and since I’ve been out of the NIH for seven months, I’m not following the ins and outs of the government, but I am paying attention to what’s going on with PEPFAR,” he tells me.
PEPFAR is the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, which was signed into law 20 years ago this summer by President George W. Bush. It serves as a conduit to providing HIV medications to individuals in impoverished nations who would otherwise lack access to these drugs.
When I spoke to Fauci a couple years ago on the 40th anniversary of the discovery of HIV, he cited the opportunity to be the architect of the program as one of his greatest achievements. "It is the largest commitment by any nation to address a single disease in history," he told me. "It's been an honor to help lead this. I really value my participation in this program that has already saved 15-18 million (in 2021) lives around the world."
“PEPFAR impact has been truly remarkable,” Fauci told me during our phone call Friday evening. "It is one of this country’s greatest global health policies in history. It’s been a resounding success, and has saved at least 25 million lives worldwide and it provides antiretroviral treatments for over 20 million people worldwide.”
However, groundless claims from anti-abortion activists have put the program in jeopardy. Conservative and anti-abortion groups sent a letter to Republicans in Congress who are responsible for PEPFAR’s reauthorization. The letter said that PEPFAR funds are “used by nongovernmental organizations that promote abortions and push a radical gender ideology abroad.” They provided no evidence to back their claim.
Also, the ultra-conservative Heritage Foundation released a report that said Congress needs to “reassess” PEPFAR. The report claimed, “The Biden Administration has misused the program as a well-funded vehicle to promote its domestic radical social agenda overseas, as it has done with other foreign aid programs.” This so-called report also did not provide any proof.
As a result, Republicans in Congress are threatening not to reauthorize the program.
“The idea that this program would be interrupted, despite its overwhelming success, is unfortunate,” Fauci said. “There’s a real danger to associate the program with cultural issues as opposed to scientific ones that clearly show PEPFAR is saving lives.”
“It seems paradoxical that abortion rights groups who fight for life want to interfere with a program that has saved millions of lives,” Fauci pointed out. “If the program doesn’t function, lives aren’t saved, millions of them.”
Instead of castigating the program, shouldn't these groups, as well as all Americans, be celebrating the 20th anniversary of this milestone? “What’s ironic is that it was signed into law by a conservative Republican President, and it is without question George W. Bush’s greatest achievement. It took years to put together, in a bipartisan way, and it is one of the world’s signature global health initiatives. The thought of it not being authorized is not only dangerous, but disastrous.”

Dr. Anthony Fauci on Tuesday said Republican threats to investigate him if the GOP wins control of the House in November’s election weren’t a factor in his decision to retire from government at the end of the year.
Fauci announced this week that he would step down from leading the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and as chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden.
Fauci, the face of the government’s pandemic response through the Donald Trump and Biden administrations, has been vilified and threatened with violence for stressing vaccines and other public health safety measures.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy vowed to “hold [Fauci] accountable” if Republicans retake power in the House, accusing him of being responsible for closing schools and businesses during the height of COVID.

Rand Paul vows to probe Dr. Anthony Fauci's 'secret trips' to the CIA before COVID-19 and says he's 'salivating' at a possible Trump presidency to hold federal agencies accountable for pandemic cover-up
Sen. Rand Paul told DailyMail.com he will continue his probe into the origins of COVID-19 by investigating Dr. Anthony Fauci’s secret ‘off the books’ trips to the CIA. The Republican from Kentucky – who is also a doctor – has been investigating the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic for years. In an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, Paul disclosed that Fauci, the former director of the…

The Circus Came To Town
Folks, there are over 18 months, precisely 565 days left until election day 2024 and already I am SICK AND TIRED of it.  Already, every day there are surveys, polls, projections, not to mention campaign promises and threats, even from those outliers who are about as likely as me to even be their party’s nominee!  If I never heard the names Trump, DeSantis, or Haley again, I could be quite…

Theodicy And True Lies
Tumblr media
I’ve told this story before. Theodore Dreiser gave a lecture at a university where a young man seated in the audience was writing his doctorate on Dreiser’s, Sister Carrie. After the presentation, the student collared the author to talk about his dissertation, hoping to validate his theories. Dreiser listened without interruption until the student had finished. In the silence that followed, Dreiser’s eyes widened. “Did I do all that?  I never knew.”   Theodicy is the word that describes this phenomenon. It’s the notion that no creator is fully in control of his or her work, not even God. How else are we to account for Satin?  And please, no yammering about our ignorance of God’s will. If we don’t know His will, then we can’t be certain there is one. By outward appearance, Satan poses consternation to both God and man.  If that isn’t the case, our Lord exposes Himself to charges of both masochism and sadism. About theodicy, one writer adds, “It is an unfortunate but reliable truth that creators tend to recognize their oversights only after it’s too late to undo them.” (“Start,” by Meghan O’ Gieblyn, Wired, June 2022, pg. 28.) The internet is an example. Visionaries saw their invention as a vehicle that would share knowledge and set truth free.  The plan succeeded during Arab Spring.  Too quickly, however, those with more ignoble ambition saw that these same communication channels were capable of carrying disinformation.  Vladimir Putin uses the web to mislead his citizenry about the course of his Ukraine invasion, for example. Today, communication channels once envisioned to belong to everyone are in the control of six major platforms: Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft Netflix, and to a lesser degree, Twitter. (Ibid), pg. 29)  An internet without them is hard to envision.  Unfortunately, centralized power tends to narrow our vision rather than widen it. People see what these corporations want them to see. In exchange for a limited horizon, we subject our personal information to data mining, mass surveillance, and ideological polarization. (Ibid, pg. 29) Writer Meghan O’ Gieblyn concludes, “… ‘visionaries’ of our age are not divine entities but ordinary humans who have stumbled upon magical instruments they do not fully understand.” (Ibid, pg. 20)  When lies pass for the truth, it’s little wonder that scientists who dedicate their lives to veracity are worried.  Says one, “I don’t remember feeling as horrified about the need to actually defend science in our lifetime as in the last four or five years.”  (Catalyst, Vol. 22, Spring 2022, pg. 20)  Dr. Anthony Fauci’s experience during the covid pandemic is a depressing example of what the expert means. A physician-scientist, immunologist, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and Chief Medical advisor to the President, he has been the target of know-nothings who fail to grasp how viruses work. Their ignorance has exposed our society to so many iterations of the disease that, despite vaccines, we can no longer hope to rid ourselves of the affliction. Instead, we are condemned to live with it. Having lost our war against covid, we seem ready to do the same in our efforts to control climate change.  Little wonder those who prefer to spend their lives peering through microscopes and telescopes are shifting their attention to politics.  They hope “increase the role of science and scientists in democracy-building efforts.” (Ibid, pg. 7.) To that end, The Union of Concerned Scientists has launched a school for science advocates to combat the plethora of misinformation.  Unfortunately, American culture has never shown respect for information. We’d do well to remove “In God We Trust” from our currency and replace it with,  “My ignorance is as good as your knowledge.” – Isaac Asimov –

Fauci Expects To Retire By End Of Biden’s Current Term
WASHINGTON (AP) — Dr. Anthony Fauci, the government’s top infectious disease expert, said Monday he plans to retire by the end of President Joe Biden’s term in January 2025. Fauci, 81, was appointed director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in 1984, and has led research in HIV/AIDS, respiratory infections, Ebola, Zika and the coronavirus. Twitter CEO Elon Musk on Sunday called to prosecute Anthony Fauci, the chief medical adviser to President Biden who has led the U.S. response to the COVID-19 pandemic since it started during the Trump administration, and drew swift backlash for his comment.
“My pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci,” Musk said on Twitter. He later shared a meme edited to show Fauci telling Biden, “Just one more lockdown, my king.”
Lawmakers and other officials jumped to Fauci’s defense online.
“I’m a big fan of Dr. Fauci and how he’s calmly guided our country through crisis. Re Musk tweet? Courting vaccine-deniers doesn’t seem like a smart business strategy, but the issue is this: could you just leave a good man alone in your seemingly endless quest for attention?” Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said on Twitter.
Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) wrote on Twitter, “It’s America. You can select any pronouns you damn well please. But Anthony Fauci has likely saved more human lives than any living person in the world. Shame on you.”
Former CIA Director John Brennan called Fauci a “national hero” and accused Musk of stoking hatred.
“Dr. Fauci is a national hero who will be remembered for generations to come for his innate goodness & many contributions to public health Despite your business success, you will be remembered most for fueling public hate & divisions. You may have money, but you have no class,” Brennan said in a reply to Musk.
Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.) said Musk “wants to criminalize Anthony Fauci because he disagrees with him” and hit at the Twitter CEO for hypocrisy in his free-speech claims.
Since Musk’s controversial takeover of the social media platform, concerns about content moderation on the site have surged, with reports of an uptick in racist and antisemitic messages on the site.
Musk has tried to situate himself as a champion of free speech and a mouthpiece for the public, using the Latin phrase “Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” which means “The voice of the people is the voice of God.” He also polled users on reinstating the banned Twitter account of former President Trump and on whether suspended users should get “amnesty.”
Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, Musk called concern over the virus “dumb,” and after he took over the company in late October of this year, he did away with Twitter’s policies about COVID-19 misinformation.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) replied to to Musk’s comment about Fauci on Sunday, writing, “I affirm your pronouns Elon.”
Greene’s personal Twitter account was banned in January for violating the COVID-19 misinformation policies, but Musk reinstated her her last month in his amnesty move.
“Fauci’s resignation should not prevent a full-throated investigation into the origins of the pandemic. He must be required to testify under oath regarding any discussions he participated in concerning the Wuhan lab leak. His policies destroyed lives,” wrote Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) in response to Musk’s post.
Fauci is preparing to step down from his government roles at the end of the year and has long said he is not concerned about Republicans’ increasing calls to investigate him over the U.S. handling of the pandemic.
“I have nothing to hide at all, despite the accusations that I’m hiding something. I have nothing that I could not explain clearly to the country and justify,” Fauci told The Hill’s “In The Know” last month.
In his final appearance in the White House briefing room a few weeks ago, Fauci lamented the partisan divide that has complicated the country’s response to the COVID-19 virus.
“As a physician, it pains me because I don’t want to see anybody get infected. I don’t want to see anybody hospitalized. And I don’t want to see anybody die from COVID. Whether you’re a far-right Republican or a far-left Democrat doesn’t make any difference to me,” Fauci said.
