Pens fans how long had you been watching the team when you realized that 99% of other teams don’t have an entire sponsored segment every game dedicated solely to tell you how all the team’s injured players are doing and where they are on the path to a return? for me it too like 2/3 of this season before that really clicked lmao

my challenge to the Pens today is to get through their first preseason game with less injuries than the VGK did. am I confident they can manage that? lmao fuck no, it’s the Pens

I have a bad feeling that G isn't going to New Jersey with the rest of the Pens. Which if he's hurt then good let him rest but at the same time that really hurts the team if they are losing both Teddy and G for multiple games. (Know that I have sent this it will happen but perhaps since I acknowledge the jinx it wont happen!?)
It’s possible they may hold him out for a few games just to make extra sure it heals up properly. The fact that he went back out for a test shift afterwards is actually encouraging to me — that means it was likely minor enough that the trainers didn’t think he’d make it worse by playing a bit, and were willing to let him go judge his comfort level and see how it felt. He gave it a go and decided he wasn’t feeling it.
And, as much as we all laugh at people calling G “old” at 34, he is at that point where your body doesn’t bounce back like a rubber ball right away the same way it does in your twenties. That means a lot less “I can play through it” and a lot more “let’s not push our luck here”. Lot more patience. So I’m thinking of any short-term absence as sacrificing a little bit of Geno game time now for a lot more in the long run of the season and later.
Geno has been at this hockey thing a while now and been through his share of injuries, and given that this was early in a midseason game (and not like, the last 5 minutes of a game in the playoffs) I think he knows better than to push himself to the point of possibly sustaining a more severe injury while also not playing at the top of his ability due to this minor one. Looking ahead, the Devils have been struggling mightily this season, and trying to beat them for a few games should not mean potentially screwing up a superstar player like Geno long-term. Not worth it in this situation.
The upswing of the multiple injuries thing is, this is the Pittsburgh Penguins we’re talking about! “Oh god everybody is injured” is practically the team slogan at this point. This time around will mean lots of call-ups and taxi squad activations and finding out exactly what kind of forward depth they’ve got lying around in their system (which can also mean a nice sneak-peek at the future of the franchise as well, like we got with watching POJ play when the D-core was decimated). The players know the drill by now, they are masters at adapting to it. Donk and Flibbett are go!
