Do you ever wonder if deep down, in Luffy's heart, he doesn't let himself worry about Zoro because he genuinely can't? Because the alternative is simply too horrifying to contemplate for even a second?

Think about how awful it was for Luffy when he lost someone very dear to him at Marineford. This person had even promised — promised! — Luffy that he would never die. That he would never leave him alone. Yet this person who was supposed to be Luffy's constant was ripped away from him, and Luffy was powerless to stop it.

"Devastated" doesn't even come close to describing the abject despair Luffy felt at that moment. He completely shut down and went catatonic.

#We talk about Zoro's devotion toward Luffy #but we don't really talk about Luffy's borderline irrational faith in Zoro #Especially pre-timeskip #when it seems like Zoro was horribly injured more often than not #and there are times where Luffy comes across as insensitive at best and uncaring at worst *COUGH* thriller bark *COUGH* #Not saying Luffy doesn't care. "why does miguel purport two contradictory understandings of the canon framework" <- idealogical doublebind anchored by guilt.

also, important to remember the context of the second understanding (miles is an anomaly that can therefore can only cause harm) only appearing when miguel has emotionally cracked. all his supppressed doubt abt his path surfaces in a moment of high emotional tension and so he tries to cram his understanding of miles back into that framework from the opposite direction (no longer spiderman, instead as an outlier beyond it's boundaries: an anomaly), even though it cannot work. because miles' very presence is a beacon of doubt that he's accidentally doomed people all over again, and he's terrified he's done so.

#i feel like. analysis of miguel would benefit a lot from examining his actions with the question of 'why does this character suppress doubt' #in mind. as well as thinking about WHEN he purports certain views when the context clues to this character reinforce his sincere desire to #protect people from harm. #theres also something AGAIN surfacing imo about how miguel conceptualises his own spiderman identity given he still seems to be an #engineered spiderman and miles mirrors him in this not seemingly being Ordained by the canon. but thats speculation rn and we don't have #the info to actually. posit concrete analysis. but yeah one of the things i think people are getting tripped up by w miguel. is assuming he #is consciously considering both incompatible concepts simultaneously. when i think - given WHEN the second one surfaces and miguel's guilt #doublebind AND the tonal presentation of his breakdown - this makes the most sense to be something he's repressing. #tunes talks spiderverse

I also want to make it very clear that the spider-verse franchise has made miles one of the dearest characters ever to me. All of the spidermen in the movie are great. But despite all our differences in bg and identity Miles' story speaks to me like very little else does (w/ some rare exceptions I keep very close to my heart). i think one of the girls in my graphics class may be trans NOT to assume anyones gender ever but like she is very clearly like obviously presenting as very feminine like almost anyone would assume she is a girl like i would say she "passes" or whatever as a girl yk? but my prof was talking to me and was pointing out stuff abt her work as an example and kept saying he and him and i didnt even realize until later what was going on like i thought maybe he was talking abt someone else or smth or that maybe I had assumed her pronouns wrong and he knew from canvas or smth bc i never had even considered that she was maybe trans and then later she talked in front of the class abt her project and it wasnt until i heard her voice that was a little lower i was like oh my god the professor was like. straight up purposefully misgendering her i think. like it could not have been an innocent mistake clearly she is presenting as a girl and looks like a girl. and he was misgendering her TO ME and i didnt even realize and just acted like it was normal and she was sitting nearby probably overhearing the whole thing....
