Filtered water vs. Distilled water: can filtered water replace distilled water?
Drinking water is an important part of our daily life, but what kind of water should we choose? And if there are any differences between them? Distilled and filtered water are some of the options, but choosing between them can be complicated. There are various factors that influence the choice between these two types of safe drinking water.
What is filtered water?
Water filtration is performed using several different methods. Filtration is one of the most effective methods for purifying water. It involves using a filtration medium with microscopic holes, which allows it to block any matter larger than the size of those holes, some of which are toxins and other harmful substances. Very well-filtered water earns the “purified” label if it achieves a ratio of less than 10 contaminant parts per million.
One advantage of filtered water compared to distilled water is that it retains the dissolved oxygen in the source liquid. This gives it a little more life than when you drink it directly or boil it for coffee or tea. Common water filtration systems like RO systems, carbon filter, Ultrafiltration, etc.
Tumblr media
What is distilled water?
Distilled water is pure, clean, and free of impurities or bacteria after being treated by electrodialyzer method, ion exchanger method, reverse osmosis method, distillation method and other appropriate processing methods. This kind of water is usually sealed in a container, and contains a small amount of carbonic acid carbohydrates, colorless and transparent, and can be drunk directly. Distilled water is the most commonly used purified water in the laboratory. In this process, most impurities in the water can be removed, except for some organic and volatile impurities, such as carbon dioxide, silicon dioxide, and ammonia. Fresh distilled water is sterile, but bacteria are prone to multiply after storage, so long-term storage is not recommended.

Filtered water vs. Distilled water: which one is better?
After understanding the definition of these two types of water, then which type of water is best for you? Distilled water or filtered water? According to experts, there is no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to choosing the best type of water to drink. The answer to this question is influenced by many factors.
Typically, most people do not prefer distilled water. This is because it lacks naturally occurring minerals that are beneficial to our health, and it can put individuals at greater risk for nutritional deficiencies. In addition, drinking distilled water may even cause problems with your teeth. This is because experts say that the minerals in your teeth can leach into mineral-deficient water, and for this reason, it is usually not recommended.
When it comes to filtered water, there are many variations and having a certain level of minerals in the water can be beneficial to our health. This depends largely on the level of filtration used, as well as the water source. For example, some filtered water retains minerals that can provide a healthy daily intake of calcium and magnesium. For this reason, many people prefer to drink filtered water rather than distilled water.

Distilled Water Shortage
No seriously, there is a distilled water shortage. If you're someone like me who lives in a place where it gets cold for a good chunk of the year, you probably know how incredibly dry it can get. Between the cold air outside and the heat cranking in every building you go into, becoming a human raisin is just an inevitable reality. I was gifted a high quality humidifier that is my winter life line. I have that thing cranking for months until the weather changes again in the spring. If you know anything at all about humidifiers or about how your state handles the water treatment , it's best to use distilled water in them because it contains far less particulates that get added to our tap water, that would gunk up the machine. Good, fine, dandy. EXCEPT NOT! For the past 2 months I have not been able to find distilled water in any store that I would regularly find it. Before you think, don't be weird, just go to a place you don't usually go and try there. I have! I've checked EVERY store in my area (that would be the type of store that would sell it) and they are all out. The slot exists for it to be carried at any one of these stores, but they are all out of stock. I did not think my blog post would be about how perturbed I am not to be able to buy distilled water, this is surely a first world problem, but I don't know anyone else who has noticed this or see/hear it being mentioned anywhere about a shortage, so I'm just stating it here if there is a huge distilled water conspiracy to come in the news in the future lol.

Distilled Water vs Purified Water: Pro ,Cons and Comparison
Gone are the days when you could drink water out of the well or take a bucket to the lake and fill it up with water to be used for your chores. Apart from the fact that there are barely any lakes, the more concerning thing is that none of the natural water resources contain water that can be consumed directly by human beings. They’re all polluted! A survey shows that 70% of Indian water sources are contaminated. This is why it is important to filter the water we consume. But what is the difference between distilled water vs purified water?
The two types are basically got by two different processes. To understand the difference between distilled water vs purified water, let us first briefly understand their meanings, pros and cons.
Tumblr media
What is distilled water?
Distilled water takes a step further than purified water and removes the essential minerals along with the impurities. This not only means that the water is not the best tasting but also means that the water is completely stripped of its natural nutrients making it not so healthy.
Pros and cons of distilled water
Well, the obvious con is that distilled water does not have the nutrients that are required by your body! But given it is the purest form of water, it is mostly preferred by medical professionals. It is also considered beneficial for people that suffer from ailments that make their immune systems weak. This means cancer or HIV patients. If distilled water is your main source or only source of drinking water then you will have to substitute your mineral intake by eating stuff that will provide you with it. Just make sure you take in your daily mineral needs!
What is purified water?
As the name suggests, water that goes through the processes like basic sand filtration or more modern processes like RO and UV filtration to get rid of the impurities is known as purified water. The contaminants must be completely removed or lowered to the least possible levels. This retains the minerals of the water giving it a nice taste.
Tumblr media
Pros and cons of purified water
Purification ensure that the water you drink is not only safe but also has retained minerals giving it a good taste and also making it healthy for you. It is also the better option for hair, skin and digestion. Purification is a relatively easier process than distillation and there are multiple devices in the market that can help with you it. However, the main disadvantage of owning a water purifier is the cost of buying and maintaining it. This leads to people choosing purified that come in packed plastic bottles or plastic water cans making it another con!
Tumblr media
Now that you know the difference between distilled water vs purified water, you are most likely to choose purified water for your daily use. So get a water purifier at home to make the process easy! Not just any water purifier. Only trust DrinkPrime customized water purifier with filters that suit your water quality. This ensures your water is not under-purified or over-purified giving you clean, safe and healthy drinking water every time! The best part? We start again with distilled water, organic tomato paste, lime juice. Organic. I've been able to get it into my diet on a high enough level to live just fine. I am convinced: as long as you're not consuming much of it you should at least be getting about 2.5% of your intake of sodium per day from food and water. I like this recipe!
