I have a friend who has some background in intellectual property law and we just had a great discussion about this. Disney has tried to copyright things in the past like Day of the Dead which did not go over well, and it seems like people are making lots of connections to that. I read some articles (though I had a hard time finding anything from an organization that I super trusted, ya know what I mean?) and even checked out the US database for trademarks (marvel does have a few trademarks on loki, though trademark and copyright are different things) and while things aren't super clear (it's not like walt disney himself has come back from the dead and said he wants to own all the Norse gods or anything), there has definitely been at least one instance of people getting flagged by websites like red bubble for referencing loki, even when not specifically referencing the marvel character. While you can't sell a screen cap of a disney movie as your own work, there is wiggle room in what exactly a copyright covers. I'm definitely not a copyright lawyer (if you want to talk about education or film production, those are things I do know a lot about and would be happy to explain) and so I don't understand all the nuances of the situation, though I did actively seek out more information and would love if any lawyers or others in the field would share their thoughts!

Intellectual property law is very subjective and nothing's been decided in court, so yeah, there's still a debate as to what is going on, but it definitely seems like people are concerned. And rightly so, considering disney's history.

15 questions tag game!

I finally got around to this and had a bit too much fun. Blame the roleplayer in me! So the characters I chose are my OC, Sira, and her twin sister Tira from Soul Calibur, based on my currently untitled WIP which is essentially a love letter to some of my favorite video game franchises (so there's tidbits of canon info from Soul Calibur specifically mixed with what I have below). I hope it's acceptable to use a canon character here though. I've worked with Sira and Tira for so long and due to the circumstances of how they were raised - among other things - having one without the other is nearly impossible, especially for something like this. Thanks for tagging me @coffehousecreations!

1. What is your full name?

Tira: Uh-oh! How unfortunate!~ If that info got out, you'd hav'ta die *giggles* We just got here, can't have ya killed so early in, right?

Sira: You'll have to settle with calling us Sira-

Tira: -and Tira! Mmmkay?

2. What does your name mean?

Tira: Mine is the feminine form of Týr, Norse god of combat. Alternate spelling though

Sira: I read somewhere that mine is derived from Seirios which means sun-bright. And Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky. Either way you slice it, it's irony at its finest. 3. What are your nicknames/other names?

Tira: Hmmm, got too many to list. I'm Jolly but only Gloomy *gestures to Sira* calls me that. Got lotsa bird nicknames too! Hahahaha, most people call us The Tiras since they're too lazy to tell us apart. Can't say I blame 'em. We look a bit -too- much alike, 'specially when we're in the same personality at the time.

Sira: Thing One and Two, Griffon calls us that.

Tira: A fun one we've been called is the Double Mint Twins 'cuz of the teal we put in our hair sometimes!

4. What’s your gender?

Sira/Tira: Cis female.

5. What’s your sexuality?

Sira: Ugh, labeling is sooo stupid.

Tira: We like who we like as long as they're not boring. Or loser goody-goodies.

6. Where are you from?

Sira: Again with wanting classified info? Tch, I should just kill you right here n' now, save the guild some trouble.

Tira: Gloomy, it's still too soon for that. Wait a little while longer.

7. How old are you?

Sira/Tira: Seventeen!

Sira: ...as far as you know.

8. Any special talents?

Tira: Murder's a talent! We can also tell your exact measurements just by lookin at'cha. If we like you enough, we'll make clothes for you~

Sira: We can recite Rap God flawlessly.

Tira: We're also leagues above Disney Princess when it comes to animals~

9. Do you have kids?

Tira: We kidnapped one for Soul Edge if that counts! Her mother wanted her back but we wanted to keep playing. So too bad for her! Her daughter's the only worthy heir of Soul Edge!

Sira: Could her face be any more annoying though? Makes me sick!

Tira: If that doesn't count, there's our Watchers. Malfested crows and ravens that our master gave us. Best present ever! Gloomy and I even raised some of our own.

Sira: We'll definitely be held responsible for what'll happen if you hurt 'em.

10. What’s your aesthetic?

Sira/Tira: Bird feathers, crows, ravens, hula hoops, circuses, carnivals, witchcraft animals, pentagrams, harlequins, blood, animal bones, scars, body paint, hair dye, torn clothes, skulls, Satanism symbols, duality, fairytales, dancing, musical techniques, and gymnastics

11. Who’s your best friend?

Tira: Besides each other? Well, there's the DMC Crew! They're our flockmates!

Sira: Hmph, I suppose I don't hate them as much as I do everyone else.

Tira: They're all so cool! Got a new guy in our circle now. Name's V! We gravitate towards each other, sometimes without even meaning to.

Sira:...Strangely enough...

Tira: He's noticed it by now too. But yeah~

12. Would you ever get a piercing / tattoo?

Sira/Tira: Used safety pins for our eyebrows once.

Sira: Before your gripe, pipe down! We cleaned 'em!

Tira: We don't do that much anymore though. But we like piercings and tats on other people!

13. When are you happiest?

Sira/Tira: During a killing spree!

Tira: It's our favorite hobby! Killing's so much better when it's not work! Have you ever sat down and watched someone bleed out? *giggles* Better than watching paint dry! Pure heaven~

Sira: It's so peaceful. Jolly gets too carried away with the fancy stuff though. She can't even kill without opening her trap.

Tira: Yeah, Gloomy gets angry when I go overboard. But I can't help it when I'm having so much fun slicin' and dicin'! >.< You act like you're not having a great time, Gloom, but I catch ya laughin'! 'sides, you nearly get us into trouble too, goin' over the top with people around!

14. What’s your biggest secret?

Sira: The thing about secrets is that you ain't gotta know unless you wanna die! You clearly look like you wanna!

Tira: Can we kill 'em now, puhleeeeeze? I'm getting bored-uh.

15. What’s the first thing you notice about people?

Tira: We usually notice a trademark thing about someone. Like this guy - think his name's Maxi - he has Elvis hair!

Sira: Our friend, Juri, has this super sick implant in her left eye!

Tira: Are we done now?...Great! Now then, let's get started okay? No point in dragging this out any further *summons her ringblade*

Sira: Finally! *summons her ringblade* Where shall we begin?!
