In the last chapter we saw that Hera will be forced to recover Percy because she is the only one who will allow (force) Percy to follow his destiny This made me think of the following possibility:
What if by chance it was pjo Poseidon who got Percy back? Let's imagine that during the conversation a small animal like a fly or butterfly (a lesser God in disguise) heard the conversation and, aiming to get a better position on Olympus for itself, ran to tell Poseidon the news.
He is furious, but he stops for a moment and analyzes the information and decides to manipulate the situation in his favor, he pretends not to know and waits for the right moment to set a trap for Hera so he can recover his baby himself.
He rescues Percy (thus defying fate) and takes her to Atlantica with Sally, after all the pain of his baby's disappearance, everyone can say that the Poseidon that was softened by time is gone
Now in a younger form with a crueler temperament he is defending his daughter tooth and nail, no one can go near the sea anymore, no more human fishing and no more pollution, no more dangerous missions, no more cruel fates
Although he has not revealed himself to humans as of now, fueled by protective fury, he is using his powers to protect his oceans from everyone and everything, now that Percy lives with him at sea any attempt at fishing or pollution is shredded by earthquakes and tsunamis
Human environmentalists are trying to explain and correlate why these phenomena are happening, everything is in chaos because now that fishing is impossible, countries that depended almost exclusively on fishing for food are going hungry (if they haven't already been wiped out of the map by tsunamis)
He is also getting a little help from other gods to hide Percy, humans now think these environmental disasters are a result of global warming and other factors such as rampant pollution It has been centuries since the tides have been so clean and orderly and the animals have been so safe.
How would Poseidon react to all this?
"He is also getting a little help from other gods to hide" IMAGINE THAT THE OTHER GODS WERE HERMES, DIONYSUS, AND HADES???? JASHEFBVASJDFJASHB after all the angsty shit i wrote about them in chapter 14, i can totally see them aiding poseidon in hiding percy from everyone
and then i see a couple other olympians joining poseidon's side. apollo would find out first, being the god of truth, then he'd pull artemis along to help out. she'd definitely help out 10000% because of what happened in the titan's curse. aphrodite would probs help out too. they'd probably be hellbent on making sure zeus, hera, ares, demeter, and hephaestus DONT find out about percy (especially the first three), as well as the fates
poseidon's change in demeanor would greatly disappoint percy. she misses her chiller and kinder dad, especially since she already had a terrifying one back in ror verse. she'd try to plea for him to show mercy, but this poor dude's already snapped tbh 💀💀
(im gonna assume your question was asking about ror!poseidon) as for ror!poseidon, his opinion on his counterpart wouldn't change. if he learned about this, he'd probably roll his eyes and go "oh NOW you care about your belongings, hmm? oh well, I'm still going to take it all from you" 💀
i love dark poseidon tho.... he's just so much chiller and nicer in the books, so i enjoy reading fics that explore his much darker, more canon to the myths side... 😍

Sooo, just a small comment on some of the things I loved in the finale of PJO.
There are obviously gonna be spoilers here soo...
-The fight between Percy and Ares!!! I loved the wave and now it was a subtle way of showing Poseidon was indeed beside him.
-The scenes between Percy and Luke!!! "Look, you didn't want to be a half-blood...". I loved the addition of these flashbacks of Luke teaching Percy to fight.
-Olympus! Omg, it was so pretty!!!
-Percy immediately being a total little shit with Zeus, I loved that!
-Poseidon showing up to protect Percy!
-Percy understanding only the word for "father" in Ancient Greek. He knows it because of Sally!
-"Ares is a moron."
-Overall the whole exchange between Percy and Poseidon. It really is a big step from him being all bitter and it was a bit corny but I liked it still.
-When Percy reveals Luke is the Lightning thief!
-Luke not fighting Percy at first. I have thoughts about the whole thing but I'll put them later on.
-Luke snapping for a moment and attacking Percy only after he mentions his father.
-Annabeth and her dagger!
-"Wait, your name is Percy!" And later "I don't think so", This was sooo hilarious. Especially when you think about how he initially tried to lie to him he's his dad. I'm pretty sure Dionysus knows his and everyone's name very well, he just likes being a jerk.
-"Some place called Disneyland", tbh, I feel like Annabeth won't be thrilled. I certainly wasn't and I was still am pretty childish as a kid.
-Grover's license!
-Their pact! That was so cute!
-"What did you dream of?" "Grandpa.". For a moment there I was like "What!? Are they tring to make it look like it was all a dream or that they're trying to make it as if Sally doesn't remember!?" but a moment later I was like "Nope, that's Percy Jackson, of course he'd refer to Kronos as his grandpa even tho he's his biggest enemy rn"
-Blue pancakes!
-When Percy and Sally were leaving the apartment, Percy's last narrative and the rain outside!
-The devastating moment when I thought we're not seeing Gabe turned into a statue but juuuust in case skipping the credits (call it a feeling or sth) and...
-GABE TURNING INTO A STATUE!!!! I'm honestly so happy! I'm not even mad Sally didn't do it as it was implied in the books. But she was divorcing him! I know he wasn't portrayed as bad as he was in the books in the TV show but I still believe he was emotionally abusing and he was still a jerk even tho it was toned down. Also, he was such an annoying, whiny bit-$(#..
...
That's all I can think of rn, even tho I believe there were other things too.
Now, I gotta admit I've read the book a looong time ago so I don't remember everything in great details but I noticed lots of the changes in the episode and throughout the whole season. I still enjoyed the show a lot, tho. Most of the changes made sense and like... Come on, it's an adaptation! And Rick Riordan was involved in the process so I believe he knew what he was doing with all these changes.
Tbh, I liked the first two episodes a lot, then idk, the third, maybe fourth too, were a tiiny bit meh to me but overall, I loved it and loved the last couple of episodes! I have mixed feelings for some things like them knowing about Medusa, the Lotus casino and other stuff but again, I trusted the process and it worked! It's only 8 episodes and there was a lot to happen there so I can see why these changes were needed. Figuring all out would have taken them a lot of time. Also, it was as much for new fans as it was for new ones so of course some things had to be made differently. For example, how the whole thing about who would betray Percy was done.
I've been watching lots of videos and posts of new fans who haven't read the books and I was cackling like an old hag at their assumptions how it was gonna be Grover or sth. And you just can't convince me that episode 7 and Annabeth getting caught by one of the roots wasn't with the exact purpose of making people think "Oh, they are friends now, what if it's her?" It was really well-played. And let's not forget how everyone was like "Luke! Babyboy, so precious." Can't wait to see everyone's reactions now... (Luke is still these things, even though he is "bad guy")
Speaking of Luke, again, haven't read the books in a while but I somewhat don't remember him and Percy being that close and being such good buddies. Idk, might need to read them again but even though I didn't mind that dynamic too much, I really thought this is more like how Luke and Annabeth should have been. I feel like we needed more interactions between them. Also, Luke speaks randomly about her twice, first telling Percy about her and calling her "my little sister" and then last episode giving that example with the spiders (nopee, I don't believe itt, she won't crush it, she'll scream and run unless it's a huge spider, then she'll fight it because of her bf) but she barely (if not ever) mentioned him? Yeah, she mentioned Thalia but almost nothing of Luke?? How are you gonna convince me that was her hero!? She should have been broken by his betrayal much more than Percy! Also, they kinda made Luke somewhat of a big softie, I thought it was because then his betrayal would have been more devastating but nope, there wasn't some kind of a 180° turn in his behaviour. Wonder why, to make him more relatable or? I want to see how his further actions are going to play out in this scenario...
Anywayy, all in all, I enjoyed the show a lot and I hope there is a next season. I want to see how the story will proceed on the screen (and I hope the changes we keep getting aren't anything too essential).

Queer books, day 8/30
Tumblr media
The description on Ms. Sebastian's website said, "Agatha Christie, but make it gay," and I was pretty sold by that. Maybe this doesn't need any other tagline?
I'm not a huge Agatha Christie person. (I feel like if you've read my stuff, you will be saying, yes, you clearly have a super hardon for Raymond Chandler and all that down these dark streets stuff, which is absolutely true.) I have read And Then There Were None, which is apparently the bestselling mystery of all time, and also I watched that one Doctor Who episode where she showed up, and really, you don't even need to have done either of those things to like this book.
The book. Okay. In the days following WWII, a shell-shocked doctor and a spy work together to solve a murder. It's an Agatha Christie-style murder, so it happened at a dinner party with a lot of possible suspects, and there's a good amount of walking here and there, having conversations with veiled agendas, spying on the neighbors, etc. But in a subdued way, because this is England--unlike my beloved Chandler, no one comes through the door with a gun.
Key quote: “Cora, you’re going to give the poor man a fit,” Edith remonstrated. “He’s gone as white as a sheet. I’m too old to dig graves in the frozen ground.”
One thing I really liked about this book is that everyone has a secret, but they're basically positive secrets. Unlike in And Then There Were None, where everyone is hiding a murder or a fraud they did in the past, the villagers here are generally good people and the things they're trying to conceal are largely positive. That's a neat little trick, to flip that bit of trope on its head.
Another nice thing about this book is it can be a good gateway to reading gay romance. If you're not totally sure but you want to dive in, this is pretty low heat, and although there is one sex scene, it's very non-explicit. I wouldn't call this a cozy (there is a dead body), but it's gentle. You could probably give this book to your mom, because it's a nice little mystery. (Or, maybe I could? Since she's reading Dionysus, I guess the sky is the limit with her now. Sorry, I'm still not one hundred percent over that.)
Oh, also there's elderly attack lesbians, and I love that. And James (the doctor) and Leo (the spy) just have a very soft, lovely relationship. I don't know. This book makes me want to give them a hug and a sweater. And it turns out that's what I want from literature a lot of the time, so it works well for me.
There is a second book in the series (The Missing Page--did I mention that Leo's last name is Page, so these titles are puns on his name? Yes. It's great.) and apparently a third one planned. I am excited. These make me happy. 10/10, go and read it.
Edit: In my head, Leo Page looks like Callum Keith Rennie circa Due South. I think that's kind of deep cuts and also maybe not canon b/c someone says he has dark hair in the book, but there you go.

My First Depictions of Dionysus + Why I Imagine Ariadne the Way I Do
So, it's quite funny my first time seeing depictions of Dionysus: Percy Jackson & the Olympians and True Blood.
Why was I watching True Blood in middle school? I loved vampires, fantasy, and mythology + I was watching it with a trusted adult (my older brother lol) so it wasn't as if I had to stomach the grittier parts of the show on my own.
But, if you've read the Percy Jackson books and also seen Season 2 of True Blood, which heavily centers the mythology of Dionysus and the maenads, then you can imagine my shock when I saw S2.
Is this the SAME god I was reading about? The SAME god that's cranky all the time because has to drink diet soda all the time?
It shouldn't come as a shock that the True Blood depiction is more accurate to his mythos (though, not entirely due to the whole "association with Satan" thing they had going on). So yeah, needless to say, I was quite educated on the wine god after that.
Tumblr media
BUT here's another thing: it also gave me some insight into Ariadne.
See Season 2 confused me, because by that point I had read The Titan's Curse and learned that Dionysus had a wife, Ariadne. So, when Maryann was talking about wanting to marry Dionysus, that was a head-tilter. While Dionysus isn't exactly 100% faithful to Ariadne in mythology, he sure as hell isn't ditching her for someone else either.
But that being said, Maryann is what I think of when I think of what someone who wants to marry Dionysus would be like. While I'm not saying Ariadne would be as evil as Maryann (rest assured, Maryann will forever be iconic.) she would definitely vibe with Dionysus' whole madness, hedonism, liberation from social restraints, etc...
And it perfectly works out. Given how much Ariadne was put through in her life, the labyrinth, and her hopes being crushed by Theseus, I could totally see her adapting a "fuck it all," "doing me" type of attitude, and low-and-behold, she just so happens to meet the god that represents the "fuck it all" mentality.
So depictions of Ariadne that portray her as meek or even scared of Dionysus have just never made sense to me. I always imagined her as a party-girl who thrived off of Dionysus' energy and was totally down for his lifestyle; and likewise her outlook after Theseus' abandonment is what attracted Dionysus to her as well. They are wine-drinking hedonists together.
And yes, of course, she can still have her domain of weaving, Ariadne can be a party-lover and still have hobbies!
EDIT: Just remembered Ariadne's Roman name is Libera, which obviously has ties to the Latin root word liber meaning "free." Liber is also a translation for "Dionysus." One of his epithets is Eleuthereus which means "of liberation, freedom." Just further proving my claim that they are more alike than different :)

Speaking of fin de siècle end-of-history texts, I’m perpetually on the verge of finally reading through Sexual Personae, though there always seems to be another philosophical work half its length or a novel of comparable size to read… In any case this will be the year I think. I’ll confess based on the little Paglia I’ve read always pegged her as the last of the great intellectual trolls, but we’ll see. I was amused to discover recently that she herself identifies as transgender while opposing gender ideology, which throws a rather different light on a joke once I made (in the fashion that all properly educated people do, throwing around the names of thinkers whom they’ve not read comprehensively and have only a mental caricature of) that my own position on gender is the dialectical synthesis of Butler and Paglia.
You don't have to read the whole book, though, just the long first chapter, which is the "theory" part. The rest are almost freestanding critical essays on the literary or artistic exempla of the theory; they can be visited and revisited whenever you're actually reading Spenser, Shakespeare, Dickinson, Wilde, etc. I'm sure I've read every page, some many more times than once, but I've never sat down and read the book qua book cover to cover. The "cancelled preface," collected in Sex, Art, and American Culture, is really fun too:
I pity the poet or novelist in this age of mass media, but my envy is frank and unconcealed for the musician, who is able to affect the audience with such emotional directness, a pre-rational manipulation of the nerves. I long for a prose of Classic structure yet Romantic fire, as in Monteverdi or Chopin. A prose with both clarity and passion, eternal opposites of Apollo and Dionysus, a harmony of brain hemispheres. My domination by music is total. Sexual Personae could be subtitled, after a 1972 Stevie Wonder album, Music of My Mind. My "reading" of Western civilization was directly inspired by the four Brahms symphonies, which entranced me in college—in particular, the third, which I listened to hundreds of times while writing this book.
Her transgender provocation is similar (which is to say maybe I stole it from her) to my own probing at the nonbinary category, since it seems to me that I am nonbinary if anyone is, and yet I am really not, and I would pretty much die if anyone called me "they." I'm just not going to go back to the playground where brutes and mean girls said my tastes, interests, and disposition meant I wasn't a man!
The "dialectical synthesis of Butler and Paglia" is, I think, already more or less contained entire in Paglia underneath the shock rhetoric, not that I've ever been the world's great reader of the turgid and humorless Butler. Paglia does believe in the autonomy (thus necessarily the performativity) of human culture, except that for her it's (1) constrained more than it is for a poststructuralist like Butler by a biological base and—this is the far more important part—(2) subject to aesthetic criteria rendering illegitimate the kind of clumsy, coercive interventions activists and bureaucrats dream up. I know she said "you can't change sex" recently, but I think that whole question is an angels-on-pinheads abstract imponderable of no great relevance to on-the-ground questions of, say, civil liberties or pediatric medicine—themselves two distinct and separable issues, by the way, which I say as a strong civil libertarian who strongly distrusts technocratic institutions.
(P. S. The last time an anon used the phrase "gender ideology" on here, I got yelled at for an entire day by a graduate student, who, following Butler, called me a "fascist." I couldn't care less about the phrase "gender ideology," and if it bothers anybody, please substitute a more neutral label for what is, after all, an extant phenomenon, namely, the anti-essentialist critique of gender and sexual categories. I am practically a pacifist who doesn't give anybody a grade lower than "B" for finished work. If people think I am a fascist, I really hope they are able to remain sheltered and therefore never encounter the genuine article.)

Percy Jackson: The Last Olympian first reading thoughts:
-I didnt sleep reading this but it was totally worth it!!
-Danm this was soo good!
-From the start things get heavy, Backendorf's death hurt me way more than I expected.
-I loved the entire part in Poseidon's castle, very interesting (and Tyson is here!)
-Wow Nico has changed so much since the begining (also his powers are very cool)
-To see the story of Luke and his mother uncover was hard to read, so tragic, I was at the verge of tears in many parts.
-It all came full circle, now the things Luke said in the first books make so much sense, you can see what drove him to those extreme ideas.
-And I love how Percy starts to change his inicial perception of things too. That is I think a very admirable part of him. Even if he is a very stubborn boy, he is willing to try and change his mind.
-But even more so Annabeth, she is so empathic despite her critical thinking, and I love that of her. She is truly so wise, even so young she realizes that she needs both the power of the heart AND mind. To almost the last second she holds on to her heart and that doesn't meant she stops being smart.
-Amazing to see the Underworld again, and Hades, and Persephone!
-Achilles's ghost, nice.
-Percy thinking of Annabeth in the river to survive STOP I LOVE THEM (Also dont think I didn't notice him constantly getting distracted with how pretty Annabeth looked)
-Very funny that whole interaction with Demeter, Persephone and Hades, and it was interesting to see how Nico tries to fit in there.
- I really thought we wouldnt get the chance to see Hestia and we did! And I loved how she was represented, as the hope that comes from the concep of home and how that parallels the gods and Olympus being the source of their power.
-I would have liked to see more of the gods fighting Typhon but I I looved the full focus on the battle defending Olympus.
-No, really, that entire battle was soo fricking cool. It took so much of the book and I adored every second. I could feel them getting cornered by Kronos, the progressive tiredness every time a new attack happens.
-Wow so much happens!
-Ok, I think my favorite parts were:
-THALIA!! Gods I missed her, It was so exciting to have her back and fighting.
-The automatons??? How cool is that??
-Percy provoking the Minotaur in such a cocky way, damn my boy has grown.
-Prometheus. Loved everything, such a fun antagonic character.
-Grover and his cool powers with nature turning a titan into a tree, AMAZING
-Percy chasing a gigant flying pig around New York.
-The centaurs coming to the rescue
-Dionysus using a party to manifest, so interesting and cool (nice of him to ask about his son)
-Percy referring to both his mom and Paul as "his parents"
-The battle with the dragon, everything felt so epic. Silena's sacrifice was so tragic, and Clarisse using her anger to kill the dragon, epic.
-"I will kill you ALL! Where is Kronos? Bring him out! Is he a coward?" Damn Clarisse...
-Hades, Demeter and Persephone coming to the fight!!!
-I was kinda hoping Luke could survive, but I guess his death was necessary. It was equally hearbreaking and beautiful. His sacrifice just made everything circle back in a true greek tragedy tale style.
-Again, with the impecable development of Percy. "You are not the hero" *cheff kiss.
-And again, Annabeth understanding eveything before eveyone else.
-To see all the gods reunited again was amazing
-YES GROVER MY BRAVE BOY YOU DESERVE THE WORLD
-And Tyson! I'm so happy for him, (I just hope he never has to actually fight)
-And Annabeth!! My dear girl will be architect of Olympus, I was about to cry, I'm so happy for her.
-Percy, I was not expecting him to ask that to the gods and I love him even more now. I knew some day his ability to defy the gods with a straight face would be used for a greater good. And damn he deliver. Again, everything full circle, what a good ending.
-Rachel is the Oracle now, cool. And I loved to see Apollo there, amazing.
-Another prophecy????
-PERCABETH PERCABETH PERCABETH!!! OMG FINALLY
-I swear they are the most adorable thing ever, the underwater kiss... :')
-Well that was fricking beautiful
-I loved this book and this series with my soul, an aboslute beauty of a story, everything was like a dream come true and I'm so happy I got to read it while I wasnt busy.
-What a journey, loved every second, I felt like a little kid again. 100/10
-You bet I'm reading EVERYTHING else from this franchise.

The Dreamer's Exchange is real conspiracy theory! Just a quick disclaimer, this is based off the book! Not the movie!!!!! Don’t let this scare you away from the movie! But like imagine if Percy Jackson was fuking real? How cool would that be!? The difference is that here? It actually is!? Allow me to explain...
Okay so if you're familiar with Dionysus Frost’s work you'll know Raven Regler is a made up character he uses a lot. He uses her in a few of his short stories and also on his blog… also I doubt a purple haired daughter of Anansi the spider exists while it still wouldn't be the weirdest shit to come out of the Dreamers Exchange given her use in other stories I think she’s fake.
While I won't deny that some elements of The Dreamers Exchange are probably altered to protect the identities of the people involved or just made up entirely such as Raven Regler she's definitely a fabricated element to distance Dionysus Frost from the real life implications of the story! Or worse maybe she is real! She's described in the story as a muse who basically is invoked to ghost write shit so who the fuck knows!? Alot of the other magic is very realistic but we’ll get to that.
Raven is our story teller! Her personality is sprinkled throughout the book. She totally gives commentary on shit. She opens the story by saying it's a very true account! Also she gathers details supposedly by people who knew the "real life Jake Caloway" and in universe had to change the names to "protect the identities" of those involved! Why would this be in here if the story was false? I get that it's immersive or whatever but combined with other details in this theory, that we'll go over, it makes it sound like it's Frost trying to signal secretly to us, that something is secretly true about what he is writing.
Next is the magic in the book. The Dreamer;s Exchange again we're talking book here, has some pretty unbelievable shit in it! That's fine, it's a fantasy story! But the magic in the book closely mirrors real world practices in witchcraft and pagan communities and I can tell you this because I your lovlie Fear am apart of said communities!
The magic is what I would deem "very realistic" it name drops real practices and paths like the "left handed path" "god spousing" "deity work" and more of that shit that just wouldn't be in the book by an author who was an outsider or didn't do fuking years of research. It also gets aspects dead right, which is weird and advanced and is hard for someone new or just researching to idk know about. It’s really dedicated writing, or like in the story- Raven Regler or Dionysus Frost really did know people who knew Jake Caloway and they gave him these details! Or even Jake himself! If you look at the reviews I am not the only one who thinks this or who has noticed it!
[include reviews here]
Next on the pagan thing, the gods tend to well...act like the gods! At least according to what I've noticed anyways as a practicing pagan.. it's just very noticeable to me it reads like a very very real account! I can't say how accurate it is…because while I don't really believe Dionysus is Jake Calloway or anything I believe he certainly KNOWS present tense Jake Calloway and they are still in contact today but I'll get to that.
Next up is the ending. The ending to the book is very very fuking meta. It’s very different from the movie. It has Jake Calloway ready to tell his story, at a writers and painters meet up. Because the fact that Jake does painting is a thing in the book. There he meets the author of the book Dionysus Frost and Raven the fictional story teller, and while it's true this could be totally 100 % made up, for this story it feels just wild and weird to just idk throw this in there. I've followed Frost’s blog for a long long time. It’s actually how I found out about the book.
I’ve dug through it. I personally know that his drabbles can get a little meta. But this specific detail again feels like a little thrown in tip, a nod to us pagans who can see through the bullshit to go "hey so this is how it happened" "this is how it's real". Basically saying “this is how I met him”! Even if it’s not actually how they met, which I do have doubts on, which this post isn’t the place for, its a clue for the audience, that its real, and it’s in here to signal to us that this is a very real account.
I get not believing that The Dreamers Exchange is real. It's a fuking brutal story with a load of bullshit and weird ethnic subtext. It's a fantasy novel that's about gods and demons and magic! It's supposed to be read as fiction. If it is real it probably omits a lot of stuff, because well it would have to! But even if it's not perfect I do believe that it is truly and utterly someone's real life that we are reading about here! Also Jake Calloway total trans babe but that's just my head canon and I will be doing another fantheory on that.
Next up. The evidence. The dreamers exchange was originally posted to watt pad for free as Dionysus Frost was writing it, under this description.
Tumblr media
Photo taken from digging through Dionysus's old Twitter. Here’s the tweet I stole it from. Obviously the book is for sale and no longer available under that cover or on wattpad...to my knowledge. But here's the weird thing. When he was promoting it on twitter he made some…..suspicious tweets...that imply he may have known or knew people who knew Jake Calloway! Which let's be real guys isn't his real name!
If you’ve read the book, you’ll see that opener, about the whole “I have to change the names to protect the victims involved thing”. The way Dionysus talks about it, it's like he knew Jake as Jake was suffering and struggling and going through his journey and bullshit just read these and don't tell me they sound suspicious!
Back then, Dionysus had no followers I'm guessing anyways, so he wasn't exactly well known. These stories of his weren't best sellers or movie bait. But like dam am I right? Real life bullshit!
Also another thing! Dionysus posted the ending around- March 11’th 2021. The ending was slightly altered and changed in the final thing. But you can still find it in its original context on his blog if you go digging. Here’s a link.
The ending as he originally wrote it, kind of aligns with Dionysus’s real life at the time! He explains that he had one book out which he did! He explains that it wasn’t selling well and had no reviews! Which it didn’t!
This seems like it was plucked right as shit was happening for Dionysus so Jake’s adventure was summed up, going to be summed up or Jake was in the process of telling Dionysus his story! If we take into account that Dionysus probably still knows Jake Caloway and started posting this work around 2021, given the dates here, it becomes increasingly clear that this is a real story, of someone he knew that he is recalling for us.
Tumblr media
Next up is THAT PATREON POST. Once again Dionysus Frost, made his first ever patreon on March 12, 2021. On it, my friend who’s subscribed unlocked the post for me, and this is what the post said. While he denies the story is real (Like anyone trying to keep a secret would fuking do) he makes some important notes that are really really suspicious about knowing the real life Jake Caloway.
Tumblr media
I can’t get into it, and I don’t have the full thing anymore because I don’t use Patreon but if you’re curious here is the post:
So what do we do with this information? We know now that at least as far as we know- Jake Caloway was a real fuking person who really went on this adventure and saw these things and met these gods, and “is a god” or aspects of one and met these people. In the story, it says he wants to tell others about it, but wants it told “AS FICTION” because nobody will believe him! That’s a huge nod to us who can see through this and see what Dionysus is doing and going “huh okay so that’s a dog whistle!”
If you’ve only seen the movie you might be surprised by a lot of things in the book. The movie is very faithful but regarding how it portrays the magic it makes it much more “fantastical” I guess. It portrays the magic and in the book it’s more like an invisible sort of thing that you feel. The movie makes the magic look like I don’t know- actual magic!
I guess we have a choice on our hands. To believe it, or to think it’s some sort of bullshit. Just because someone who claims to be Jake Caloway claimed that all of this happened to him, or his friends told Dioynsus Frost all these details that Jake told them (the book has really in depth convos in some places) doesn’t mean that it really did. He could be completely crazy! It’s like the Odyssey. That’s supposedly “also” a true story. Which I also believe for the record.
Do you really believe in magic enough to believe that Jake Caloway saw the things he did, and met the gods he did? Went on the adventures that he did? I don’t know. I believe it. But I’m also a witch, and a conspiracy theorist. I mean my name is fuking Fear. So that’s my theory. Please repost it and share it around. But credit me and link back here! I really really want to hear the fandoms hot takes on this.
Because, if Jake Caloway is real. What the actual fuck?
Sincerely, your lovely fan theorist Fear.

jOURNAL 95:So begins this new Dionysus chapter of Olive Brimstones fucking life or sumnting
jOURNAL 95:So begins this new Dionysus chapter of Olive Brimstones fucking life or sumnting
Sometimes we predict in our world, history and reality as falsified narratives of “fantasy” soon in this reality 1E57 by the code Dionysus, this world i am writing to you in will learn of magick, and mayhem and sorcery. But the thing of your world is that it has always been and truly stuck as meant to be FICTIONAL. People were never supposed to have definitive proof that the gods exsited, people were never supposed to see a vlog at camp half blood about percy jackson. And as a result of this, it has angered not just dionysus but zeus and apollo and aphrodite that’s a sharp one, towards me, and others who wish to provide salvation and comings and literature of other worlds. It will be a test run a world like ours with super powers and heroes and mutliveress, and then we’ll all wake up and this book will suffice like it was all one bad dream.
That’s all there is too it. That’s all I foresee. A world where we learn of magick the gods make their big deubeu and while videos and evidance surfaces it all disappears or is disproven by the likes of captain dissolution and other skeptics who are admamanet about ti. When I give predictions unlike the pyhcihc twins who are cunts and you can trust me on that, I DONT DOUBT MY GIFT, nor do I COLD READ, or believe in antisemtic conspiracy theories.
Unlike rebbeca sugar i don’t go after tiny authors I ripped off to keep quite about my work or kin the worst of my characters than get mad at other people who kin same characters when i promoted and advertised kinning said characters because “oops a bad person is too much like THE REAL pink diamond I imaginged it! Who is totally based off me and not the indie comic I ripped off to create my cartoon show!” you can’t copyright an idea, and if you can in your culture something is truly and utterly wrong. Pretty soon I’ll be headed to the real life hunger games, cus that shit happens dysptopicly in other coutnries, and I can’t die via my imortality curse! So I volenteered. It’s exhausting it’s expansive and if you think you OWN your work then don’t take inspiration from anything darling because that’s not how this shit roles, especially when you plagerized FUCKING MONSTER HIGH from an indie artist who exposed you on tick tock.
I digress. I just hate to see beleivers, that claim they beleive in pop culture magick, who watch my shitty kaito tv show, who adore me in a masc and then meet the real me and are struck by what I actually present to them! When they lecture others such as this isnt’ magick (ready for the hate male and failed curses yet again) on how to do magick (the right way!) rather than even provoke thought about the systems they don’t understand the historcical reference too.
AND JULES IS FINE< KEVIN SI FINE, AIDOLF IS FINE, but the rest of that blog is garbage and its dionysus drunkenly possessing olive saying this! Ain’t an alter, olive is a huge vessel of mine and we have an agreement to possess each other wehn DRAUNK.,
She oftens writes these entries drunk by the way. She can do that. You shound’t. And it pisses me off so much how people treat her (i can use those pronouns for her she’s he to you) it pisses me off how ARTMIES TREATS HER (just be a women! Be like me apollo!) it pisses me off how ODIN treats her, how everyone declares her a mad idiot before fully vetting reading or experimenting with the methods in her diary. SHE BELIVES DIFFERENT THEN YOU, shes dsylexic! GET OVER YOUR TOXIC ABUSIVE ASS! She explained the aztec versions of pop culture magick, the history behind its movement, the reincartive series and therein of otherkin and otherkin and par humans and if that still isn’t enough for your skeptic ass up your dam BUTTHOLE! Why are you still laughing drunk about your friends to her, while you’ve entered her dam bubbles! OLIVE CREATED THAT MAGICK SYSTEM WITH ACRIANS LOCKETS HELP! And if you respect acrians! And don’t respect OLVIE god do i have some news for you!!!!!!!!!
Anyways! Check out this genwa shit im joining in a wig, I don’t often posess my followers anymore Olive si my special someone KEEP IN THE GRAMMATICAL DEAR, love ya by#!

Ariadne by Jennifer Saint. One sentence summary: an ostensibly feminist retelling of the cycle of Greek myths involving Ariadne (i.e., Minos’ daughter, the Minotaur’s sister, lover of Theseus and Dionysus). Isn’t the cover lovely?
Tumblr media
I read this for a book club—this was only the second time I went to this book club, but already I can tell I’m NOT the target reader for it (everyone else seems to be nearly exclusively interested in romance! I alone am the genre fiction fan). This book was semi-polarizing for our group. The most romance-obsessed women thought that the fact the romance wasn’t central was a let-down; the woman who “doesn’t like anything not real” didn’t like how “fantastical” it was (I thought it wasn’t fantastical enough!); those who did like it were somewhat restrained in their appreciation. That’s not to say it was totally bad! I think it was just a little too YA for us—a little milquetoast, a little too focused on aesthetics over substance, and nothing particularly new (particularly since everyone had already read other retellings before, like “The Song of Achilles” or Percy Jackson).
One thing we discussed as a group was why these Greek myth retellings are so “trendy” right now—my argument was that it is a trend, and one that ties closely in with the current fad for “dark academia.” By that I mean that dark academia (as far as I understand it) is all about the romanticization of classical scholarship (wool sweaters! ivy-covered buildings! cups of tea while reading a yellowing book! classical literature and poetry!) without any, um, actual scholarship. This book reminded me of that. It’s a retelling of Greek myth, so it plays into the academic/historical/intellectual flair of the aforementioned aesthetic, but it’s highly sanitized and modernized. Part of that sanitization comes from the supposed feminist-lean of the story—one of the women in my book club (who I, as an aside, do not like LOL) was VERY into the fact it was “more feminist than the Greek myths”—but ultimately sexism is a central component of Greek mythology! You can’t separate the fact that these stories originated in a highly misogynistic society from the stories themselves—when you read ancient authors, you are constantly bombarded with, in particular, sexual violence, and I personally don’t think you can just make a woman the narrator of one of the stories to negate that milieu, let alone formulate any sort of cogent commentary on ancient gender norms and relations. There ended up being a bizarre tension between the fact that the book wanted to be feminist (Ariadne was telling her own story!) and the fact that Ariadne’s story is deeply, irreparably sexist.
I think that’s why I got such a strong YA vibe from the book—I can picture a 16 year old being very proud of reading it (“it’s about Greek myths! Like the Iliad!”) but I can also picture that same young person taking a class on Latin poetry, reading Ovid (very much the “factual” basis for the book), and being horrified at the amount of sexual violence in the source material. (This is not me making fun of such a 16 year old. I would have been this 16 year old, although if I were writing this review then, I would have spent the whole time complaining about how every book gets ruined by romance.) Who does it help to ignore the disturbing context of the myths? Is “making ancient stories palatable” a worthy enough cause on its own? I’m inclined to say no: much of our modern social and cultural traditions stem from, among myriad sources, Greek antiquity, and pretending that maybe women didn’t have it too bad doesn’t allow readers to evaluate how millennia of gender-based oppression continues to impact the modern world.
My final thought is about the prose itself. Saint is a perfectly serviceable writer—there were appropriately poetic-seeming passages, and I think my fellow book club members thought she did well. I, however, love picking apart writing, and what struck me was how I never felt what the characters felt on the strength of her writing alone. Any emotion I would feel for Ariadne or her sister was based entirely on my own capacity for empathy; when Ariadne was left stranded on an island by Theseus, I could certainly imagine it must have been sad/scary/upsetting. But I never felt that visceral abandonment or anger or—honestly—anything while reading. This was most glaring during parts when the characters were falling in love—it was like a checklist for “things people write in books when characters fall in love” (you know. things like “he had green eyes and wide shoulders and she couldn’t stop from looking into his eyes. Which were green.”) but I, as the reader, never felt swept away or enchanted in the way that a better writer might have made me feel. Some of that could be hand-waved away with the fact that Saint chose to emulate a kind of stilted, semi-formal language, like a translation of an ancient poem (the argument would be that while modern writers want you to feel what characters do, Homer didn’t necessarily), but I keep thinking about how I never felt anything about any of the characters until after I stopped reading. Now, on reflection, I can imagine Ariadne’s emotions. But while reading she was entirely opaque.
Ps. In case you can’t tell, I’m not convinced this story is actually as feminist as it claims to be. It is told from a woman’s perspective, but (and now I’m going to channel 16 year old me) I’m not sure that’s enough when the woman literally just falls in love with two different men and does whatever they tell her to. She makes, like, no decisions or choices in the book. Maybe the real /commentary on ancient misogyny\ was the /questionable characterization\ all along.
Last word: Do I recommend this book? Sure! It was a diverting little read and I tore through it in a couple hours. I know this review seems terribly bitter, but it’s not intended to be; I actually enjoyed reading it overall, but I think it’s good to be critical of trends, particularly those that seem to be predicated on simplifying a complex issue, like gender in antiquity. I think it’s a fun book for a lazy summer afternoon—you can relive my book club experience by sitting outside and drinking an aperol spritz while you read. And if you have read it, I’d love to hear your thoughts! :-)

Demigod MC Series: Athena
So. I have to deal with the virgin goddesses… By mythos, there really shouldn't ever be children of Artemis, Hestia, or Athena (yes, Athena was a virgin goddess). PJ got past that by making it canon that Annabeth and her siblings were born from cracking open Athena's skull (yes, that's also more or less the canon explanation). They gloss over it real quick but I remember, Rick. I've always remembered and that mental image has haunted me for years...
I can't, in good conscience, ignore the history around Athena's worship (call it an academic restraint) but I REFUSE to do the skull thing. So, since I make the rules here, I'm going with magic adoption. They still get magic powers, they're just more human than demigod. Cool? Cool.
Demigod MC Series: Intro, Aphrodite, Hermes, Hades, Dionysus, Demeter, Athena
Lucifer
The human that popped out of the portal seemed to have enough sense not to attack everyone in the room for a change, but even Lucifer could tell that was more of a strategic choice than for lack of ability...
Their very existence was highly unusual… and quite worrisome. He wasn't even aware Athena could have "children" of her own, but apparently she had been taking in some particularly bright humans to raise and train like her own...
Unbeknownst to him, a surprising amount of human scholars, diplomats, and generals have her to thank for their trade… and that alone should speak to the level of intrigue at play here.
Was this an accident or Athena's attempt to plant an Olympian spy in the Devildom too…? Either way, he didn't trust them from the get go…
Look, Lucifer isn’t stupid. Athena is a goddess of Wisdom and War and war happens on more than just the battlefield…
Since they've shown up records have been going missing, official documents keep getting misplaced, and he swears that there's some kind of bug in the student council room...!
It's infuriating watching the MC suck up to Diavolo when he's almost certain that they're running their own agenda behind the scenes! And he can't prove any of it!! They cover their tracks too well!
Lucifer has one of those corkboards covered in newspapers and string in a secret wing of the Castle - 100% dedicated to just tracking the MC's activities…. The longer they're there, the more obsessed he becomes...
He swears between Simeon, Solomon, and MC he feels like a shepherd wondering why the sheep are growling… The Devildom has never been in more danger than it is right now... Send help.
Mammon
To be honest, he kind of thought that they were just going to be Satan 2.0 but that's not really true.
They're more than just a book sponge! Though they do read, like a lot. Let’s just say from one schemer to another… Game recognizes Game.
They come up with plans and ideas soooo fast, it’s insane! Honestly, there are times where he has a new money-making plot and he just brings it to the MC first to run it over.
Nine times out of ten, not only do they sniff out any problems but they have a solution for him in a matter of minutes! His scheme game has been on point since they’ve shown up!!
They’re also even better tutoring than Satan is, so he’s even managed to get a couple A’s for the first time in his life! Lucifer actually told him he was proud (which he secretly recorded and now uses as a ringtone much to his brother’s regret...)
So yeah, he likes them... buuut that doesn’t keep him from thinking they act a little weird sometimes...
Mammon: *points to a unused tower close to the RAD building* Over there is the Tower of Sorrow. We use it for storage.
MC: Ah. Interesting… *starts writing in a notebook, muttering* It may need a few minor tweaks but the location is defensible...
Mammon: *stops* Ya say somethin’?
MC: *looks back up* Nope! Say, you’ve been to the Castle a lot haven’t you? Do you know any good ways in?
Mammon: Uhm… Why do ya want to know that…? *starts looking around for Lucifer*
MC: In case of emergencies. I like being prepared. 🙂
Mammon: Look, I don’t know what Lucifer might’a told ya…
MC: I’ll pay you a thousand Grimm for it.
Mammon: Well shit, ya want those maps with or without color?
... Yeeeah, that’s pretty weird… But it’s probably fine. I mean, as long as they keep giving him money, who’s he to complain? 🤷‍♀️
Leviathan
Also thought that they’d be a lot more like Satan but was pleasantly surprised that they were into more than books.
What else did they like exactly? Military strategy!!
It’s been a looong time since he’s been able to talk to someone who’s actually interested in all the battles he’s fought, both in the Celestial Realm and the Devildom, and their curiosity is kind of flattering...! Not a lot of people take his strategic prowess all that seriously anymore...
Plus, they are the BEST partner to have any turn-based strategy game. Hands down. He once got stuck on a level of D-COM for weeks until the MC walked in and mopped the floor with the AI!! They have a serious head for probability and tactics.
The House once made the mistake of letting these two be on the same team during a Hell Game and they absolutely demolished the competition. Mammon didn’t even get a single shot off before half his team was lost to a rigged paint grenade… It took a whole day to clean up…
However, Levi’s also noticed some odd things about the human… He likes that they’re interested in his past but maybe they’re a little… too interested?
Levi: -and that’s how we defeated the Four Horsemen before they escaped from Purgatory.
MC: Wow, Levi that’s seriously impressive!! *furiously scribbling on a notebook*
Levi: Well t-thanks… 😅 But, uhm... are you writing that down…?
MC: Hm? Oh no, just doodling. *they lift up the notebook to show a bunch of cute little sketches on the page… and not the magic-based invisible ink all over them…*
Levi: Oh you draw too? Can you do fanart???
MC: Eh, sometimes. But say Levi, can you tell me about your naval ranks again? I’m still really curious… *gets the pen ready again with a smile*
Satan
Oh, it's been a long game of cat-and-mouse between these two… and unfortunately, it’s been pretty addicting too.
He honestly had every intention of tricking the human into making a huge mess do he could bother Lucifer, but at every turn they proved just a hair too clever for him...
He once gave them a cursed book to “lend” to Lucifer, but they saw through it the moment they touched it and lifted the spell before handing it over.
He rigged a podium to spray glitter during one of Lucifer's speeches but the MC disconnected the trigger mic before he even got on stage. It was pretty dang frustrating...
At one point he got so desperate that, just as a test, he tried to trap them in the House's Music Room. Fortunately for them, it only took a few minutes to work out an escape. They even passed by him in the hallway with a wink!
It's confounding! It's infuriating!!
...and it's so damn sexy... He should be furious but he’s just in awe!!
Add on that they know their art, literature, and multiple different crafts thanks to the tutelage of their adopted mother and that’s it. He’s finished. This boy is in love.
Truthfully though, a part of him is 90% sure that they’re also gathering state secrets… Like, they’re watching Barbs and Diavolo far too close for comfort - but he just can't bring himself to care. 🤷‍♀️
The MC could walk into his room one day and say, "Hey, do you want to help overthrow the monarchy with me?" and he dreads it because deep down he knows that he wouldn’t say no…
Take some notes, kids. Some bad influences get you to drink or do drugs. Others pull you into a centuries long conspiracy to destabilize and topple rival realms from within… But he has fallen for their brain hard. Devil help them all…
Asmodeus
They’re pretty clever, he’ll give them that, but uh… Are they a little off to anybody else?
Asmo is a charmer by birthright so he has a bit of nose for when someone’s just a liiittttle too nice… Not much of a nose mind you, because he can be thrown off by compliments himself, but enough to think that the MC might be a little too… “kind” for their own good...
First off, who wants to spend that much time with Levi?? They don’t even seem that interested in anime! They just keeping asking him for old war stories…
Then all the sucking up they do to Diavolo and Barbatos? Look, he gets it. Diavolo is a delicious piece of man-hunk and his butler could give him a lesson or two in sweet-talk (and he has), but they seem to be just a little too… nosy.
Of course, Asmo’s suspicions disappear pretty quickly after they start to spoil him with spa nights and beauty secrets they picked up from “casual research” into the subject.
And you know, get a little Demonus in Asmo and start massaging his back? Oh, sweetie he’ll sing like a bird!! … with gossip. Singing with gossip.
Asmo: So I’ve heard that Lucifer has been spending more time at RAD than usual… His whole club is talking about it, they think he’s meeting with some witch!
MC: Hm, is that so? *works on a knot near his shoulder blades* What do you think?
Asmo: Ooh~! Right there, MC! *purrs and lays his head on his arms* Well come on, this is Lucifer we’re talking about! I’m sure he’s just working.
Asmo: Hmm... though come to think of it, I think I heard him asking Barbatos for the spare keys to the Tower of Sorrow…
MC: Oh really? Huh. *works out the knot and gets up* I just remembered that I left some papers with Satan... I’ll be right back.
Asmo: You’re going already??
MC: *waves him off quickly* I’ll be right back, Asmo. *hurries out the door to do totally on-the-up-and-up things… surely*
Beelzebub
Honestly he doesn't like this one… But not for the reasons you'd expect.
He agrees with everyone else that they seem a little shady, but Solomon and Simeon are too so it's not like that's anything new... 🤷‍♀️
No, no. He dislikes them because they're the person who FINALLY figured out how to keep him from eating all the food in the kitchen!!
Turns out that the trick was to put a teleportation charm on the fridge door that would send all the food away if it’s opened after a certain time of night…
And where does it go? The Purgatory Hall fridge. And where does the Purgatory Hall food go…? The HoL fridge…
It doesn’t sound so bad until you remember that it means half of their fridge is now Solomon’s leftovers…. 🤢
After they put the same kind of spell on the pantry, it was all over… He couldn't get midnight snacks from the House anymore… Everything was contaminated by Solomon…
The MC is a nice enough person, he doesn’t have a lot of complaints about them, but he wants them to leave. Now. This is inexcusable… He’s so hungry… and he doesn’t want to die by “goulash” or whatever Solomon calls his latest culinary catastrophe… He’s still too young for death… 😓
Belphegor
In a way, he absolutely could not have asked for a better person to help him get out of that attic.
… In another way, he got one of the worst possible people to try and kill... Like. They saw through his scheme sooo fast…
How was he supposed to know that the human had training in body language and sniffing out lies???
Getting the door open was a piece of cake for them. They knew enough magic to undo the seals and just rummaged around Lucifer's stuff long enough to find the key to the door. He could not have found a more competent individual for a break out, really.
It’s just… well he didn’t expect to go from locked in a room like a prisoner to tied up in enchanted rope, still like a prisoner but now mobile. 😑
They even used his own hug ruse against him! They caught his wrists when they got close and tied him up before he could shake them off...
Admittedly, it wasn't exactly the best look for them either - what with walking Belphegor downstairs to the others like a one-man-prison-caravan but they're as silver-tongued as they are sly so they talked their way out of it beautifully…
And like hell was he going to trust them after that!! And not even Beel liked them so something had to be up...
Well, you want a detective? Look no farther than Belphie (no seriously, it’s in the canon). He can put things together pretty fast when he puts his mind to it and watching the MC for a while gave him enough proof to work off of...
He always knew that, humans were bad news and the MC just proved it to him all over again. They are bad news, bad bad news and they’re going to-!
Overthrow… Diavolo…? Is that what he is getting from them…? Huh…
Wait a second, MC. You might just have him interested… 😏

Things about Tower of Nero that I want to highlight to remember them forever:
Lu being an absolute badass woman, I just love her too much
Piper McClean being canon wlw, she was actually kissing another girl, we really fell in love in october
Chaos being canonically female (just chaos being mentioned as a deity rather than what's below tartarus)
nobody DIED, like no one on the good side at least?? yes plenty of beings have died throughout TOA, but nobody died in TON?? so many died in TLO and BOO, I expected to mourn someone and I didn't have too??! it made me so happy
solangelo. that's it. solangelo makes me happy.
will being incredibly supportive of nico, and instead of stopping him, going with him on dangerous adventures because he doesn't want to leave him alone. also them treating Nico's PTSD for what it is
WILL SOLACE CANONICALLY GLOWS IN THE DARK. HE'S A GLOWSTICK BABY.
also will just appearing at the gates of the throne room, glowing in rage because someone touched his boyfriend (and tried to kill his dad), and him just marching through everyone (everyone else letting him), just to pick up his hurt precious boyfriend and take care of him.
meg McCaffrey got her happy ending. she's baby, she deserves her family and her happy ending. also Lu being the mother and the 12 children being siblings?? that's one hell of a way to tell nero to fuck off and right his mistakes. we love meg.
dionysus being the best olympian after apollo. the duo content we needed, and now will never get
nico mentioning bob and how he wants to go look for him, because he can still be in tartarus
rachel still being a Total badass and hitting people in the eye with her blue hairbrush thus being iconic
meg acting as lester's anchor and only reason why he didn't let go of the ledge, not falling into chaos, is top tier 'reasons why I cried reading', because if you think about it, Meg is the first ever friend apollo ever had, and them being best friends is everything to me
also apollo choosing to go looking as lester rather than apollo because lester feels like home is on top tier 'reasons why I cried reading' too
again, the only thing apollo did in the end (once he was god again) that could be described as 'godly' was be in several places at once, fly his chariot, and get meg her unicorn
but apollo shooting fucking fire out of his hands is crazy asf, it was so cool. he really got amazing godly powers this book.
rick being bold enough to showcase abusive parenting knowing that a huge porcentage of his readers are minors, helping many realize that they could be in abusive households, and giving them a tool to reach out for help
apollo defeating nero was so satisfactory, because you realize in the end, that nero wasn't really a monster, he was monstrous, but still very much human (if only with some godly power), and pretty useless once he couldn't hide behind props and weapons, his being wasn't powerful, he was just under layers of protection
the jackson/blofis scene was so warm and loving, they really are willing to put their family in danger, baby estelle in danger, to help 'percy's friends' even tho she knew percy didn't like apollo, but she still takes in everyone who needs help, and paul being a loving and accepting husband
sally working on her SECOND novel, she really is having her best life
none of the big heroes from other series having protagonism, besides nico and will, instead giving the other kids from camp halfblood their chance to show they're just as worthy as the "heroes of olympus"
(still I would have loved to see a scene with everyone else, like the heroes of olympus guys, fighting together one last time, just for nostalgia's sake - I legit hoped to see percy and annabeth arriving with chiron in triumvirate tower, but yeah)
the arrow of dodona may have been a dumb, cringey, and slightly ridiculous thing at first, and I personally rolled my eyes everytime it said anything, but it knew what would happen from the start, and without its sacrifice, apollo would have achieved nothing. we stan one arrow
nico wearing a white cowboy hat. idky but it makes my heart swell with joy. he a gay cowboy
y'all know I love Apollo's arch, and I just gotta point this out. his trials, his time as lester, started with him falling to earth, and ended with him getting up after purposely throwing himself off the earth, towards tartarus, almost falling to chaos. that's really clever writing.
the olympians watching over him, and some actually being concerned for him rather than his progress.
poseidon not really giving a fuck about the world or council meetings anymore because percy's not there anymore
athena being the only one apart from artemis who trusted apollo could do it makes me warm fsr
lester deciding that the best way to retell his adventures is by singing is hilarious to me, he really thinks it'll solve everything
Grover not telling percy and annabeth jason died seems so funny to me, he really said "nah it doesn't matter much, field trip, yes"
"hey man" my heart broke in twenty million pieces. like I don't know where I expected to see jason. but that wasn't it. and it hurt me as much as it hurt apollo man.
(also I kinda hoped we would see nico summon his spirit or smth, but I'm actually happy nico realized that jason went by his own choice, and he was in peace, so he decided not to summon him, because it was alright. that hurt too)
kinda love how lester passes out after literally every battle. it reminds you that even tho he's apollo, his body isn't. I'm sure we all would pass out too if we did a quarter of what lester did in the span of 4 days. his body isn't made to endure that, it doesn't even have a halfblood endurance, it's a weak mortal body
the trogs were fucking hilarious. their screeches and grrs, idk there's something ridiculous and so childish about them, it's so fun
really happy that apollo never had a /real/ love interest (reyna doesn't count), cause that wasn't what his story was about. instead he got to make so many friends, and have quality time with them and his children, it's amazing
apollo being thankful people were telling him he'd grown, and was more human, because he realized that was the best thing he could have learned from his time as a mortal
also him saying fuck you man to zeus and his speech, like "no asshole dad, I did learn, I'm not going to see this as punishment, it was a great time in which bad things happened but I enjoyed it." yes, we love apollo not letting zeus win
getting to see what everyone will do now. nico and will figuring out rachel's prophecy, probs saving bob. rachel living her best life away from her parents. leo doing what leo does, always helping those who have no one else. the hunters' open storyline about this fox, possibly hinting at content? piper settling down in a quiet life is what she deserves tbh, she's earned quiet life with a cute gf, wish her the best. Frank and hazel being the best praetors, and I bet they will continue to be so. And annabeth and percy, who chose their happiness over all, at last
kinda wish we got to see someone still really miss jason after apollo becomes god again tho lmao like apollo missed jason more than the others, nico and piper being the exception. I mean, leo is fine and dandy, hazel and frank are okay, percy and annabeth are done mourning... I just we got to see any of them really mourning, rather than reading they mourned. it would have made it feel more emotional
the last conversation and the last words in general. "the sun always comes back" and "we're friends now. call on me. I'll be there for you" that shit got me sobbing my heart out. rick really managed to do right by the books and end it like he should have, unlike BOO. he took what made TLO good and used a similar formula. it's very different from "and for once I didn't look back", but it still fills you with warmth and the feeling that even though it's over, it's okay.
I'm just really emotional, this is all I can think about, but you bet I'm gonna add more when I remember

Thoughts On: Go the Distance
Tumblr media
I don't usually do book reviews, but after reading this book, I thought why not? Now, in case it wasn't already obvious by the tagline, A Twisted Tale is an anthology series that places the characters from certain Disney movies in alternate scenarios. They usually tend to be hit-or-miss as far as I'm concerned, but I don't necessarily hate any of them, either.
That being said, I do think Go the Distance is probably one of the more weaker installments in the series.
Now, I'm not gonna pretend that the original Hercules was this completely accurate depiction of Ancient Greece, but there are some things that take me out of the world, though I do admit these are really just nitpicks: for one thing, female goddesses are just called gods. For some reason, Jen didn't feel like it was necessary and I originally thought that, hey, maybe that word just doesn't exist in this world. But then it turns out it does at least as far as the bonus story is concerned and I'm just left more confused than anything.
But I feel like what really did it for me was the fact that Meg's last name happens to be Egan. Y'know, like Susan Egan. Meg's voice actress! Because a woman living an Ancient Greece would totally have a name that's apparently Jewish and Irish in origin.
Which brings me to my next point, this book just felt kinda fan service-y. Not that this is inherently a bad thing, especially in a series that uses Disney characters so you kinda have to expect references, it just felt a little forced and awkward on occasion hearing the characters say lines from the movie. And actually, the same goes for certain dialogue choices in general.
And I'll be honest, part of the reason I even wanted this book was because not only was there a Barnes and Noble exclusive edition for it (I already have the others, so this is partially me being a completionist), but also because the bonus story included Persephone.
Oh, Persephone.
Now, if you browse my blog long enough, you'll see I'm a big fan of the myth of Hades and Persephone and I especially get interested to see how the story can be retold. So, since Disney's version has Hades as a villain, I was even more intrigued as to how Jen was going to handle it. And as it turns out, in this version, Persephone goes with Hades willingly and the reason is because she's bored with her life and she feels like no one appreciates her work. She also appears to be just as ruthless as him, as she had no objections to Meg getting killed so long as it meant no one knew that Persephone herself was in the Underworld and only vouches for the mortal after she promises to help them stay together.
Yeah, this version of Persephone is a little selfish, at least to a certain extent since she does appear to be rather kind otherwise. That said, she also doesn't even seem to be all that fazed by the fact that Hades tried to take over Olympus, which should probably say something about her. But then again, no one seems to bring it up much at all (certainly not as much as the battle with the Titans), which I just found weird. The funny part is that they actually address that Hades never faced any consequences besides getting punched into the River Styx, so there's at least some self-awareness there.
And again with the nitpicks, this is apparently supposed to be Persephone:
Tumblr media
The Persphone in the book looks nothing like this, instead having tan skin and black hair. Though because this character was actually present when Hercules returned, I can understand since the timing wouldn't have lined up, but still... Her relationship with Hades is genuinely really sweet, though.
I also liked seeing the Underworld and how the different realms are actually acknowledged rather than treating the place as though it was just Greek Hell. It also seems like Jen was trying to mix in a bit of actual mythology with the characters from the Disney film, which I thought was at least interesting, if not pretty underutilized. For example, there's literally a throwaway line of Dionysus being the son of Zeus and a mortal (I assume Semele) and it's never brought up again!
And speaking of the characters, they're just alright. I really liked Meg's character arc and the story itself is still really enjoyable, if not a bit clunky at times. And Hercules is just adorable with being a supportive boyfriend.
Overall: 🌕🌕🌕🌗
Not bad, but could be better. And as far as Jen's books go with this series, I liked it alot more than Conceal, Don't Feel, but not as much as Mirror, Mirror.

The Last Olympian Thoughts
So because I have absolutely 0 self-control or restraint when it comes to this series and its characters, and for The Last Olympian in particular, I could not put TLO down. Because of this I figured I couldn’t do the usual photo reaction posts I have been so far, because the spam would just be ridiculous, so I am stealing the idea from @yourstrulytaaay to do a masterpost instead. (Adding a Read More cause this got ridiculously long)
Fun fact, TLO came out right after i finished reading the series for the first time so it's the first PJO book i bought  and my only hard cover one for the og series. I checked the year and turns out it was published 2009, which means i was actually 9 when i read the series for the first time. I realize this is not really a fun fact but i thought i was older when I first read the series so it's blowing my mind a little ‘cause now I’m 21 and everything hits different and i still have so much love for this series and the characters Okay onto book thoughts: - i was right that this book is gonna destroy me, the first line alone made me so excited and nostalgic it's ridiculous - I love Rachel and Percy sm tbh. Her being a bit of peace and normalcy in his life without always reminding Percy of who and what he is is so good for him. Just a little escape
- of course by the end of the book that's not the case any more but by the end he's lived his prophecy so he doesn't need it as badly, plus he and Annabeth are solid again - Percy saying Annabeth has been hard to be around lately... Ouch my heart. Luke really is the last thing that keeps them from being together and Percy is so jealous and Annabeth so torn and in pain, i feel so bad for them both
Tumblr media
- Beckendorf 🥺🥺 - the telkhine with the Lil Demon lunchbox!! I forgot about him. Percy: 'i left him alive, partly because his lunchbox was cool' is one of my absolute favourite lines tbh - Paul taking Percy crabbing and being imperative in helping Percy kill the giant crab 💖 Paul Blofis is important and deserves the world, okay? - aw Percy, you can't save every demigod bb
Tumblr media
- 'i had to fight him eventually. Why not now?... What difference would a week make?' Oh Percy you have no idea - real talk tho, the fact Kronos possessed Luke's body would also mess me tf up. Percy keeps forgetting it's not Luke anymore and yeah, that would be so so hard and confusing af, like what another smart little mind game for Kronos to pull on top of everything else - the fact Percy fights Kronos before getting the Achilles Curse and actually doesn't die within seconds is... Astounding. He kicks him in the chest! And yeah Kronos is weaker and still adjusting to Luke's body, but Percy is having trouble fighting Luke cause they used to be friends - Percy breaks Kronos' time magic!! Like?! Boy is POWERFUL.
Tumblr media
- OUCH - honestly Luke, Thalia and Annabeth's family breaking the way it did... Don't talk to me. Poor Annabeth, Luke betrayed them, Thalia joined the Hunters because of Luke's betrayal so she's pretty much AWOL all the time and then Luke dies. Like Rick wtf, my heart can't take it? -Percy and Tyson having each others backs when talking to Poseidon in the underwater palace is the brother-brother relationship we love to see - Percy trying to stick a sand dollar in the vending machines at school 🤦🏻‍♀🤦🏻‍♀ - the whole underwater interaction at Poseidon's palace? Perfection. Awkward family drama and all - Connor falling out of the tree when he sees Percy because he's so excited 😂😂
Tumblr media
- 😭💖
Tumblr media
- k, ik Clarisse isn't perfect but tbh if i was a child of Ares whose father was disrespected and hated by my fellow campers (ares deserves it but still) and that disrespect trickled down to how the other campers treated ME (which if Percy is reliable here, it obviously does) then i would also be irritated at being used for muscle and nothing else? And just expected to fight with the people who act as if they'd rather not have Ares kids around the rest of the time. Like Clarisse isn't totally wrong - Percy reading the prophecy, seeing he's meant to die and just being like 'i do not see it' and refusing to outright think about it makes me so sad for him - (but it taints every action after and he's super reckless afterwards bc of it- including finally breaking and accepting the Achilles Curse) - (also him taking this as the last straw and finally beginning to show Annabeth how he really feels, cause fuck it, he's dying anyway) - Give me more info about Rachel's backstory and family Rick!! -  how did i forget Percy willingly eats chocolates that taste like cardboard because 'i didnt have anything against cardboard' like sir? Ik Silena didn't want them but still? - 'she'd always been cute, but she was starting to be seriously beautiful' STOP, MY HEART CAN'T TAKE IT - Percy staring at Annabeth and forgetting what they're talking about cause hes so distracted 👌🏻
Tumblr media
- hmm yeah... For some strange reason.... - i forgot how Percy totally bombs this convo bw them and now want to cry 😭 Annabeth is trying to talk about what's important and Percy, you sweet oblivious man, you're shooting her down without even realizing - love that they're both on the same wavelength tho. Percy two lines before, hmm it's cool to date ppl from other cabins, wonder why im thinking that around Annabeth, my best friend in the world, and then Annabeth a beat later, hmm, let me bring up Silena and Beckendorf and how it's important to be with the people you love when you have the chance, no way Percy will miss this huge hint right? - they're the best - k i honestly forgot Percy full on physically intimidates Leneus like that - luke telling his mom if he ran away the monsters wouldnt get her..i can just imagine luke crying when he says good bye before running away because he thinks it's his fault his mom is like that and he cant take care of and protect her anymore because it's too hard - uh oh now i have angsty pre-lightning thief luke fic inspo... Him, Thalia and Annabeth on the run... The ANGST -  Rick holds absolutely nothing back in this book and i am in pain - HESTIA!! 💖💖🥰 - actual loml - i love that Rick titled this book after her and that he wrote such a great series about the importance of family (biological, found or otherwise) and home, and that he said actually Hestia is the most important bc shes the most humble and keeps the peace and knows when to fight and when to yield and you protect what you love, which is your home - i just... Adore Hestia - Grover! Missed you babes - Hades is so so horrible to Nico, always comparing him to Bianca :/ - but i do love Hades, Persephone and Demeter together they make me laugh - oh god the River Styx - Achilles 🥺 - Annabeth being Percy's lifeline is, and continues to be, A Lot™ - 'my name was Percy Jackson. I reached up and took Annabeth's hand.' LOL Why am i crying? - Like the fact there is no Percy without Annabeth, and that remembering her literally reminded him of who he is in his very soul... It's fine im fine - i won't even get into the parallels of her being his lifeline now and then later when Hera takes his memories but leaves the memory of Annabeth for Percy to fight to get back to (anyone who wants to yell about it with me... Feel free to message) - badass Percy is my fav Percy tbh - him defeating Hades?? Like? Hades is arguably the most powerful god, okay - i feel bad for Nico but if i was Percy I'd do the exact same, Nico, sorry man but this is a high stakes time crunch deal and Nico is literally the only hope of persuading Hades and distracted by his own internal stuff - flashbacks to Luke, Thalia and Annabeth hurt, ow - George and Martha are the best - damn i forgot Hermes full on nearly kills Percy here, yikes - Luke stop cockblocking Percabeth challenge
Tumblr media
- i love!! Percy's love for New York!! So much!! - Percy leaving to live in New Rome in HoO is a lie and this is all the proof i need for why - the fact the entire last half of the book is the battle and aftermath... Such great buildup and pacing. All the tricks and twists and battles in this War of Manhattan? I would not take out a thing, Rick, you legend - of course then the final battle in hoo with the gods is what? Two pages? Ugh, don’t talk to me about my hatred for BoO and HoO - 'no detours you two' is still the cutest thing!!! - THE HUNTERS!! Thalia i missed you - good job Percy, you finally spent your sand dollar - Minotaur!! - 'dont i get a kiss for luck? Its kind of a tradition right?' Percy finds out he's gonna die and is out of fucks to give and honestly I support him - also Michael just standing beside these two while they're flirting like umm 👀 👀 while a monster army marches towards them, nbd - Annabeth taking Ethan's knife meant for Percy!!! Cause she just knows his weak spot without him even telling her! They literally invented love - Feral Percy is so scary omg, i love how well Rick incorporates the Achilles Curse in this novel, with the whole heightened weaknesses and stuff ans the parallels to Achilles arrogance being what killed him and Percy's loyalty, fierceness and protective instinct being his own heightened weakness - the fact that Percy is the one who inadvertantly kills Michael Yew tho, I'll never recover from that - the fact Hades offers Maria di Angelo a golden palace by the Styx like how Poseidon offers Sally a palace under the sea tho. Let's talk about that parallel - the entire talk with Prometheus is so so good - not me picturing young Luke hiding in the closet to get away from his mom when she has an 'episode' -i love callbacks in stories and all of the callbacks to the rest of the series in this book make me very happy (medusa, minotaur, the underworld, Rainbow!! My baby!!, Daedalus and more) - Percy summoning a wholeass hurricane against Hyperion - the Party Ponies! They're so chaotic, i love it - Dionysus! 😁 I can't help it, i love him - Percy absolutely losing it when he sees Sally and Paul asleep in the car 🥺 - Rachel telling Percy he's not the hero screws with him so much :( poor bb - although i really really love how Rick wrote this, it's so refreshing to not have one chosen one save the world, but a combination of people - the drakon, Silena and Clarisse make me cry - the Patrochilles references, im not okay - Annabeth giving up on Luke after hearing what he did to Silena and Percy telling her that doesn't make him happy 😭 that whole interaction makes my heart ache - Percy giving Hestia Pandora's pithos 🥺 - and Hades, Nico and the others coming for a final attack is so badass, i love it - listen im glad the og trio were the ones to confront Luke on Olympus but the fact Thalia got so close and then pinned by a statue of HERA makes me so sad. Ik her and Luke were finished and she coped by cutting him off completely and giving up all hope but i would pay money to know what they would have said to each other to say goodbye - Ethan 🥺 - Poseidon joining the fight against Typhon is so cool, such a great scene - 'PEANUT BUTTER!' - Annabeth you brilliant badass you - RIP Luke, you werent great but you werent the worst either - the gods just rolling up seconds too late, wondering wtf happened in Olympus and who the dead body is - the chapter where the Olympians meet and give out rewards is one of my absolute favourites (again i am incensed we didn't get anything like this in HoO) - will Percy turning down immortality ever not make me scream in glee? No? Alright then - Annabeth being relieved like Percy was relieved at the end of Titan's Curse tho - oh Hermes :/ - its so hard reading all this and knowing what comes in HoO... Like it's such a cathartic, earned and mostly happy and peaceful ending and then HoO comes along and undermines it all - aww Rick let Paul see Olympus somehow pls, he deserves it, he killed a dracanae - (i would also love to see it) - Percy being more upset Rachel took his pegasus than her going to Camp and possibly dying, lol, priorities dude - i honestly think that Rick had other ideas for the second Great Prophecy and how things would go down in BoO, cause the prophecy like... Barely applies to BoO, Doors of Death are in book four, and explabations of it is all so unclear when Rick is usually pretty good with that stuff - PERCABETH - lol Percy complaining about privacy when he and Annabeth are caught kissing literally in the middle of the very open and public dining pavilion, okay - BEST UNDERWATER KISS OF ALL TIME - that's it and im a glass case of emotion - very happy to say that this series remains my favourite of all time 💖
If anyone ever wants to come gush about anything Riordanverse related feel free, because as you can see I have a lot of thoughts about it all

FOLKLORE MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
“You’re sure about this?” Stiles rolled his eyes at the question, the same question you’d asked four times already. Letting out a dramatic sigh the boy looked you dead in the eyes, “For the fifth time, yes! Now hurry up and stick your needle teeth in me before I change my mind.”
A nervous giggle left your mouth before your could stop it and you grabbed the knife you’d brought with you from home out of the pocket of your jacket, looking at Stiles with an apologetic smile you gently pulled his wrist toward you, “I won’t actually get my fangs until after I feed…” You reminded softly, eyes searching his for any sign of uncertainty.
You were currently sat in the passenger's seat of Stiles’ jeep, the sarcastic boy himself sat beside you in the driver’s seat, both of you had your seat belts unbuckled and your bodies turned towards each other as best you could in the confined space of the jeep that was parked on the outskirts of the woods.
The only feeling in your chest that didn’t belong to you was the nervousness that Stiles assured you was just due to the fact that he was alone in his car with a pretty girl and had absolutely nothing to do with the fact he was about to give a baby vampire her first taste of human blood. It was a good thing that Stiles had agreed to your request, though. To be honest you weren’t sure why he’d said yes but you were grateful nonetheless.
Deaton had made it clear that in order for your transition to be as seamless as possible you’d need to feed on a human who didn’t share your bloodline, which obviously eliminated your parents from the running as well as Scott and Derek since neither of them are technically human. That left you with a choice to make between Isaac and Stiles and considering your decision to keep Isaac out of it, your options were limited.
Thankfully Stiles had responded to your text message of “I really need a favour” quickly and didn’t ask too many questions, he’d mentioned he would rather have you drink his blood than die and you couldn’t lie you were kind of moved by it. Who knew the sarcastic Stiles Stilinski was a sweetheart?
“Oh so we’re using a kitchen knife...fun. Very sanitary.” He commented, eyeing the knife with displeasure obvious on his face and in your chest. You offered him another apologetic smile and tried your best to send a wave of calmness his way- already having started learning how to use your empathic abilities.
When he let out a relaxed sigh, closed his eyes and let his buzzcut head fall back against his head rest you brought the knife to his skin. You cut quickly and as shallow as possible, wincing while he let out a hiss.
Blood oozed from the cut you’d created and suddenly it was as though the rest of the world had simply dulled around you, you could hear Stiles’ heart beat beating like a drum and every single drop of rushing blood sounded in your eyes. Throwing him one last questioning glance you waited until he nodded his head for you to go on before you cautiously raised his wrist to your lips, holding it with both hands and swallowing the saliva that had built up in your mouth at the sight of the red liquid.
Bracing yourself for what would happen next you took a deep breath in. Slowly, you opened your mouth and placed it over the cut you’d made on his pale skin, the taste of metal filled your mouth but it didn’t repulse you like it should have, it tasted good… incredible even. A hum of approval left your throat only to be muffled by an approving sound of his own coming from Stiles.
When you disconnected from his wrist to look at him your eyes widened, he looked absolutely blissed out. Head thrown back against the car seat and a dopey smile on his lips while half lidded eyes stared back at you.
“Are you okay?” You asked him in panic. How were you going to tell Scott that you broke his best friend?
Stiles nodded, his smile only growing as he giggled out his answer, “That felt really good. Really good.” He drawled out his words and you had to laugh, hoping to god that a vampire bite had some kind of euphoric effect and that Stiles didn’t just have some weird blood sucking kink. Although come to think of it you hadn’t actually bit him…
Shaking the thoughts off you sat with Stiles on the outskirts of the forest and waited for him to come down from his high so you could ask him what exactly had happened. After a solid forty-five minutes of staring out into the woods dozily and babbling nonsense as if he’d just smoked an unhealthy amount of weed, the boy beside you finally sobered up.
The first thing he did was look at you with wide eyes, “That- That was awesome.”
“You were kinda gone for a minute there, I was worried I broke you.” You laughed, the noise dying in your throat as he shook his head frantically.
“No! It was like- like I actually don’t know… but when you started drinking it felt like something was injected into my bloodstream! It was like a drug or something, I swear.” He explained excitedly, the positive energy spreading to your chest and forcing a wide smile to grow on your lips.
“Was it as good for you as it was for me?” He asked jokingly, wiggling his eyebrows and smiling when you let out a hearty laugh. You shrugged casually, an innocent smile playing on your lips that were still stained red with Stiles’ blood, “I guess you were a pretty tasty midnight snack.”
*
Deaton hadn’t lied when he told you that your fangs growing in would be painful, you’d spent the entire night rolling around your bed in agony after you parted with Stiles. It wasn’t until the sunlight peaked through your curtains that morning that you were finally able to catch your breath, your teeth looking normal as you inspected them in the mirror, only forming fangs when you made an effort to bare them. When you met your own gaze in the mirror you played around with your newest feature, eyes widening as you realized that while you changed your teeth, something else changed too- your eyes. As you barred your fangs your eyes shifted from their usual colour to a glowing lilac purple. A shocked gasp left your lips and your brows furrowed in confusion.
Vampirism seemed to be full of surprises and even still the most shocking thing about your reflection was how undeniably tired you looked. Staying up all night in unbearable pain would do that to you, you supposed sighing heavily and getting yourself ready for the day ahead.
“Hey kiddo.” Your father greeted, not looking up from the book he was reading as you entered the kitchen with your school bag thrown over your shoulder.
Leaning over his shoulder to see what he’d been looking at you let out a laugh when you saw the word written on the top of the page in a gothic black font; Vampyr.
“Some light reading, huh?” You asked teasingly, grabbing an apple from the fruit bowl on the kitchen island and leaning against it while you waited for a response.
The man let out a huff before shutting the book and throwing his head back dramatically, greying hair falling in his eyes as he did. “Just tryna figure out everything we can about your new lifestyle.”
A small laugh left your mouth as you made your way out of the kitchen, “Blood sucking and superhuman abilities, what’s more to know?” You called sarcastically, shutting the front door and climbing into your car.
*
School was loud at the best of times, even before being bitten you could barely stand it especially in the mornings, adding your enhanced hearing and total lack of sleep to the mix seemed like a recipe for disaster. You were ripped from your thoughts when a hand landed on your shoulder, “Oh hey, guys.” You muttered when you looked up from the ground to see Scott and Stiles looking at you with what looked like slight concern, with so many people around it was hard to tune in on what they were actually feeling.
“You look terrible.” Stiles stated bluntly, receiving a light kick in the shin from you, “Yeah well your stupid blood activated my fangs and I was up all night in pain while they grew in.” You grumbled, giving him another light kick for good measure.
Scott chuckled before speaking up, “How did feeding go?”
Before you could answer Stiles was already blabbering excitedly, “Dude! You have to let her bite you it’s like… other worldly!” Your eyes rolled at how over dramatic he made the whole situation sound, sure his blood had been incredible and your bite had put him in a state of pure bliss but for all you knew that could’ve just been a one time thing. Scott stared at Stiles with a suspicious look on his face as the two began to argue playfully, stopping once you cut in, “Alright you too, I’m gonna head to my locker. Stiles try not to think too much about how other worldly I am.” You teased with a wink before walking away.
Isaac had been watching the entire encounter, he’d seen you the second you walked in, he’d seen the way you laughed and chatted with the boys you were seemingly growing closer with and he definitely didn’t miss the wink you threw towards Stilinski before you began walking towards him. He wondered if he wasn’t in the picture would you be better off? His mind torturing him with that fact that since you were placed into different home rooms this year you’d already made a number of new friends. Maybe he was holding you back?
“Whatcha worrying about, Lahey?” Your soft voice shook him out of his quickly self degrading train of thought and when his eyes met yours all worries about himself went away as he focused solely on you and your tired eyes.
“You…” He told you, eyes trailing over your face before coming back to your eyes. “Are you not sleeping?” He asked, concern dripping from every word. His hand found yours and you simply nodded your head, there was no point in lying to him about it when you knew damn well you were probably going to pass out at some point during the day.
“It was just last night, I had a really bad toothache.” Technically it wasn’t a lie and by the way his eyes glanced over your puffier than normal cheeks you knew he believed you.
Isaac nodded his head, keeping his soft grip on your hand as he looked at you for a moment longer, “You sure here’s the best place to be?” He fretted, his eyebrows coming to a furrow. Worry began to build up in your chest along with every other feeling being felt by every other hormonal teenager who walked the halls. They crashed over you in waves, one after the other and relentlessly leading you to seriously consider Isaac’s question.
“(Y/n) I think you should go home, you’ve got the same look on your face as you did that night in the hospital…” Isaac pointed out as he let go of your hand.
Even though he was standing right in front of you, again like that night in the hospital, his voice sounded distant. Instead of excessive noise this time it was overwhelming emotions clouding your mind and as opposed to ringing in your ears all you could feel was a volcano of feelings threatening to erupt in your chest. There seemed to be something about Isaac- it was like he triggered your powers, whenever he was with you they were at their strongest and you didn’t know whether or not that was a good thing.
As his hand slipped out of yours you felt yourself pulling it back to you as quickly as possible without triggering your new vampire speed, because while Isaac triggered you- you felt as though he was also the only thing stopping you from losing control.
“Hey, you ok?” His voice sounded again, prompting you to squeeze your eyes shut, hoping to gain some kind of leverage over the car crash of emotions flooding your every breath, you took a deep breath before you opened your eyes, locking your gaze with Isacc’s.
His eyebrows were furrowed together and the amount of concern he held for you in the moment would’ve warmed your heart if it wasn’t already crushing it. “I think I should wait a few more days.” You reasoned out loud, nodding your head mirroring Isaac as he nodded in agreement, adjusting your grip on his hand so you weren’t just grabbing on to it. He intertwined his fingers with your own and led you towards the school doors muttering, “Give me your keys, I’ll take you home.”
“If you miss school you’ll get in trouble.” You reminded him weakly, fatigue getting the best of you as you leaned against his side for support, not seeing him shake his head, “Nah, he won’t be mad if it’s about you. Didn’t touch me the whole time you were in hospital.” Isaac informed you as he snatched your car keys out of your jacket pocket himself, trying to fight a grin at the dopey look on your face as you stared up at him.
“He didn’t?” You questioned when the pressure in your chest began to release, only when you moved your gaze away from your best friend’s face did you notice that he had already brought you to your car, he opened the passenger side door and looked at you expectantly, motioning for you to get in, “Come on, sleepy head. Get in the car.” With a sigh of defeat you plopped yourself into the seat, watching as Isaac shut the door and made his way around to the driver’s side, quickly hopping in and leaving the school grounds so you wouldn’t get written up.
“Nope. Said he didn’t want me stressing you out with my ‘little accidents’” He kept his eyes on the road as he spoke and you tried your best not to make your staring too obvious. It was a rare sight though, seeing him with no scrapes or bruises, you liked it a lot. At least it meant he wasn’t hurting physically.
“Maybe I should get injured more often then.” You told him tiredly, head beginning to lull, soothed by the warm feeling spreading across your chest
Isaac laughed humorlessly, glancing at you briefly before returning his gaze to the road ahead of him, “Honestly I’d rather get beaten black and blue than see you hurt for another second.”
The warmth in your chest only grew as you gazed at him, “I could say the same.” He laughed again only this time it was sweet, “How about we both try not to get our asses handed to us?”
As the words left his mouth the car had pulled into your driveway, your mother’s car was out of sight and your father would’ve left for work by now so it seemed that you and Isaac would have the place to yourselves.
When you got inside you dropped your bag on the hallway floor and made a beeline towards the stairs, waiting for your best friend to follow you as he usually did only this time he didn’t move. Isaac stood rigidly in the doorway, his teeth gnawing on the inside of his cheeks as indecisiveness radiated off his form.
“Come on, I know you didn’t ditch school just to drop me home…” You tried to lighten the mood but your words only confused him further. He only stares at you in contemplation, his teeth moving to chew on his bottom lip. “What’s wrong?” You asked, voice dripping with concern.
Little did you know his mind was running wild with the same thoughts that had plagued him earlier that morning, maybe you didn’t want him with you… maybe you would’ve preferred Scott or even Stilinski. Before he could apply any sort of logic to the thoughts his mouth started moving, “Do you want me to stay? It’s fine if you’d rather- I don’t know call Scott or something?”
You felt bad for laughing, you really did but the question definitely had not been what you were expecting, his jealousy towards Scott and even Stiles was clear as day but you didn’t realize he was so blinded by it. “Isaac, I love you so much but that is the worst suggestion you’ve made all day.” You told him through a laugh, moving from the stairs back to the front door, shutting it after you pulled Isaac inside and looked him in the eyes.
Drowsily you placed both of your hands on his cheeks, forcing him to meet your eyes, “Don’t get me wrong, Scott and Stiles are great” You started, pausing to squish his cheeks together to drive you point as you finished, “But they’re not you.” Isaac smiled down at you sweetly, escaping your grasp to pull you against him in a hug and once again that warm feeling flooded your chest again. It was different that the others you’d felt so far, the others seemed to sit on your chest or weighed it down, but this feeling felt as though it was simply floating over it, it wasn’t heavy or overwhelming but light and comforting. You sunk into it for a second, eyes falling shut as you let out a hum of approval when Isaac’s grip around you tightened ever so slightly.
Pulling yourself away before you fell asleep right where you stood you grabbed his hand, leading him upstairs, “Alright dumbass, I need a nap we can cuddle upstairs.” You grumbled only to have him laugh and push your shoulder playfully, “You’re the worst, (L/n)”
“Mhm, and don’t you forget it, Lahey.”
*
“Call her. Now.” Derek growled out at Stiles demandingly causing him to throw his arms in the air in frustration, “And what’s she gonna do about it? Huh? Suck your blood?” Stiles retorted, sarcastically.
“No,” The older man once again growled, “She can heal it. Now, call her.”
“You suck, you know that right?” Stiles mumbled as Derek ignored him, clutching his arm in pain as the boy with the buzzcut finally began to dial your number.
After a minute, Stiles lowered the phone from his ear, “She’s not answering.”
“Then call her again.”
*
You groaned into Isaac’s shoulder as your phone rang for the fifth time waking you from your longer than intended nap, groggily you grabbed your phone from behind you on the night stand as best you could without removing yourself from Isaac.
Finally grabbing hold of it you held it to your ear, not bothering to check the caller ID before answering, “Hello?”
“Finally. (Y/n) listen to me-” Your face contorted in confusion at the sound of the frantic voice on the other line, “Derek?” You questioned, still half asleep and Isaac’s hand running through your hair didn’t help with the matter of waking you up.
“Yes, (Y/n) it’s Derek-” “And Stiles!” “Shut up!”
You couldn’t help but wince at the volume of their voices, finally sitting up, “Both of you shut up. What do you want?” You grumbled crankily.
“Allison’s aunt shot me.” Derek told you bluntly causing your eyes to widen and your voice to pitch, “What? Are you okay?”
“I need your help.” He admitted causing your shock to grow significantly, “How the hell am I supposed to help?” You asked panicked, trying to calm your beating heart when it dawned on you that your best friend was right beside you.
Stiles voice cut in this time, sounding just as frustrated, if not more, than Derek, “Do you have to be so cryptic all the time? God. (Y/n) I’m taking him to Deaton’s okay? The pet clinic. Just meet us there alright?”
“Okay, got it.” You sighed, quickly hanging up and jumping out of your comfortable bed, letting out a laugh when you noticed the sun had long since set, you must’ve been asleep for hours.
“You ok?” Isaac asked. Standing now too.
“Yeah, Derek needs me for something.” You told him, irritation clear on your face. “I’ll drive you home.” You sighed and gave the boy an apologetic smile,
*
Hurriedly you made your way into the pet clinic after dropping Isaac off, eyes widening at the state Derek was in, “Jesus, you really got shot, huh?”
The wolf nodded with an insincere smile on his face, eyes narrowed in your direction, “Yes. Now come here, I need your blood.” Derek demanded, rolling his eyes when you recoiled in disgust, “Come again?”
Derek sighed impatiently, only bothering to give you a half assed explanation, “The bullet that shot me has a toxin in it, vampire blood will stop it long enough for Scott to get here.” He grabbed your wrist and pushed it toward your mouth, “Bite.” He instructed, hesitantly you bore your fangs, eyes flashing in the process, and bit into your wrist, wincing as you broke the skin before you removed your fangs and held the limb toward Derek who immediately attached his lips to the bleeding area, “Gross…” You murmured, scrunching up your nose as Stiles looked at the scene with as much distaste as you.
When he was finally done with your wrist you saw that the marks your fangs had left only a minute ago were gone and besides the spit from Derek which you wiped off on your shirt with a grimace, it was like nothing had been there at all. “What the hell?” You voiced in confusion, staring at your wrist.
“Okay, so vampires heal too.” Stiles deducted, nodding his head approvingly.
“They can heal themselves but they can also heal others. With their blood.” Derek finally explained coherently.
“You’re not healing though.” You pointed out matter of factly, prompting the older man to let out a sigh, “There’s wolfsbane in my system. Your blood will dilute it but it won’t stop it completely, I need the bullet.” He said vaguely to which you only nodded, not bothered asking him any more questions, he sucked at answering.
Deciding to leave Derek to his brooding you made yourself comfortable next to Stiles, “So Allison’s aunt?” Stiles nodded, “Yep. Pretty funny considering Scott went over to Allison’s after school today to ‘study’” He told you making air quotes with his fingers.
“I gotta be honest Stiles… I don’t trust her.” You voiced your concerns, chewing on your bottom lip. Stiles looked at you with a confused glance, “Allison? Why not?”
You shook your head, staring distantly out the window as you mulled over his question. You couldn’t explain it but there was something about the Argent girl that just didn’t sit right with you, she felt volatile, confused even. Like given the right motivation she’d switch teams without thinking twice
Turning back to meet Stiles’ eyes you shrugged your shoulders, “Just an intuitive feeling.”

Trials of Apollo: Tower of Nero: Review
It took me a lot longer to write this than I thought it would. I started and finished Tower of Nero the day it came out and immediately cried when it was over. There was so much about it that I loved, but I’m so sad it’s over. I’ve tried to figure out why it felt so bittersweet to me, and I think it’s because this is (quite literally) the first series I’ve been with since the beginning. I got into Percy Jackson right after House of Hades came out. I’m pretty sure it only took me a few weeks to finish the Lightning Thief to House of Hades. When Blood of Olympus came out, I was sad it was over. When I think of all the other book and tv series I’ve been into over the years, I find I usually get into them after they have been out a while or after they are over. But I Trials of Apollo holds a place in my heart because I was with it from the start.
One of the things I loved going in was that there wasn’t so much hype around it compared to PJO and HoO. It felt like things had quieted down a bit, and the fandom was kind of small. I also think this was the first time I’ve loved being apart of a fandom that was kind of small (I’m talking the people that were really in it for Apollo and his character development- not just Solanagelo and the cameo appearances.)  The fandom was cozy, and the books were always fun, even when they were dark. I’ve been anticipating the ending for some time.
However, I miss being in between books. I miss coming up with new theories. I miss reading other people’s theories. I definitely have my own head canons that didn’t come true, but a girl can dream. (Camp Director Apollo was a missed opportunity- come on Rick.)
A few things I loved:
Lu: I was super suspicious of her in the beginning, but I grew to love her throughout the book. I need more of her and Apollo bonding over their love for Meg. I think one of my favorite bits was her flipping off Apollo with her mechanical hands. I’m glad Meg has her as a mom figure.
Dionysius: He grew on me. Whatever. He’s still a jerk.
Apollo being proud of his kids: Every scene with Apollo and Will (and Austin) I adored! He’s so proud of his kids- it’s so cute. Apollo being good with kids, in general.
Meg wasn’t the one to kill Nero: I expected Meg to be the one to do him in. I really did. In the end, though, I’m glad she stood up to him without having to kill him. That probably would have been to traumatic for her.
Apollo and Meg: I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again- Apollo and Meg’s sibling relationship is my absolute favorite thing about the whole series. I’m a sucker for the found family trope. They’re such an unlikely friendship personality-wise, but they actually have a lot in common. I’m glad the series ended on them. “I was just happy to be with her” sucker punched me in the heart and made me smile at the same time.
What I didn’t love:
The ending wasn’t bad. It met my expectations. It didn’t exceed them. I mean nothing really happened that I wasn’t expecting. I just felt like Apollo was still kind of sad by the end. I expected him to go through a phase of being a little depressed and unhappy as a god again, but I figured that would be a stepping stone sort of thing. I was really expecting to see him apply everything he’d learned and gained towards a higher purpose. I mean we kind of get the sense that he’s going to be around for his kids and for Meg. But there’s also this feeling that he changed but the world he’s in didn’t and there’s nothing he can do about it. I knew there was never going to be an “Overthrow Olympus/ Bring Zeus to Justice” sort of plot. That would have taken way to long. But it felt like Apollo just went back to the circumstances he was in before, but as a much better person. And I feel like it was continually brought up as an internal problem that Olympus no longer felt like home to him (and the Sun Palace never really felt like home, either -that’s in Tyrant’s Tomb, I swear). I honestly expected Apollo to either forsake Olympus and decide to only ever turn up for important meetings or go all in and try to reform the Olympian council. I didn’t expect to be on Team Dude Should Have Stayed Mortal. It just felt like his internal struggles were never fully wrapped up.
I wasn’t too disappointed, though. The ending was pretty good.
My Personal Head canons include but are not limited to the following:
-       Apollo does eventually become Camp Director after Dionysus’s punishment is finished.
-       He becomes an unofficial God of Redemption helping gods that can be helped and building allies on the Olympian Council. (He ends up a lot closer to Hermes and Mr. D, as a result) He can’t overthrow Zeus, but he can make his immortal life more manageable and help people along the way.
-       He becomes God of Loopholes when it comes to helping demi-gods on their quests.
-       I still head canon Meg becoming immortal. I know it will probably never happen in canon (though I would totally read a Meg stand-alone book), but I don’t care. I’d love to see her as the immortal protectoress of southern California fighting wildfires and whatnot. (Plus, Apollo needs someone to bug him for the rest of eternity.)
So, if any fanfic writers want to have at it with these ideas- be my guest! A special thank you to everyone in the ToA fandom. Apollo has become one of my favorite characters, and your character analyses/fanart/content has made this journey so much fun. I hope we stay active as the PJO show come up and onward. I love you all! XO
