I wanna see some anti fanfic rec plspls
You asked for it. May I present, a creepypasta x reader anti-reading list.
Quick Disclaimer: No author names will be dropped nor fic links or sites they’re on. I dislike these works but I don’t want anybody to be harassed. Don’t go after people, holy shit. These works are only here because of some heavily disturbing content. One of them just makes me super mad because of a few circumstances. These are purely my opinions. I am not writing Jesus nor do I write the cleanest stories out there. Dark topics should be explored in fiction. However, some things just shouldn’t fucking be romanticized. Fanfic is practice, I’m not taking points off for wonky writing.
You’re allowed to like whatever the fuck you want. I’m not shaming you or the authors. I’m talking about media I dislike, which I am completely allowed to do. If your friend or favorite author’s work is in here, maybe don’t send this to them. I get it’s tempting but still, it could be upsetting. Again, don’t fucking harass anybody.
This list is in order of - Pisses me off to FBI open up to whatthefuckwhatthefuckwhatthefuck.
Content warning for: Rape, miscarriages, abortion, necrophilia, sexism, child grooming, multiple types of abuse, ablism, and meanie head criticism of popular fics. Seriously, this gets exceptionally bad at the final one.
First up in our lineup a pretty popular. It’s the least upsetting and problematic. It’s a various creepypasta x reader mansion fic. This is more of an honorable mention because it’s frustrating to read over being super bad.
Recruited.
Summary: (Y/n) killed an attempted rapist and covered it up years ago. She is recruited into the cpp’s to be considered as a proxy along with two others. Follow her through a journey of no character development into becoming a proxy.
What’s wrong with it?
-Brian literally is a misogynist. He literally hates women.
-(Y/n) is an asshole. Not in an entertaining bad bitch way. No, in an unaware bland way. Points off for being a business major, girl you have no soul and it shows.
-She is treated like the voice of reason who is always morally correct. Thing is, if anyone is neurodivergent or mentally ill and ya’know shows symptoms of it, they’re cRaZy, evil, and an annoyance.
-Yes, people creeping on or getting clingy can be shitty/annoying but sometimes the way (Y/n) acts is completely unjust. It left a bad taste in my mouth because the character felt okay to be shitty to people who weren’t like her.
-The endings are disheartening and make no fucking sense. Cody, who is clingy at worst, gets rejected Jack, who TRIES TO BREAK (Y/N)’S FUCKING LEG, gets with her. Can I get a HELLO??????
-(Y/n) also doesn’t get with Jeff who suddenly turned into her brother character after hundreds of pages of romantic tension. Again, Recruited is not inherently bad but it may be really disappointing to people who are here for 1-2 specific characters.
-Queer bait-y author’s notes and inconstant love interests. Author’s notes would read like “Teehee, maybe I’ll make (Y/n) have Jane and/or Natalie endings……” But that never happens after it’s teased multiple times. I get not wanting to add more to your plate but don’t suggest it if you don’t want to do it or only want to please heterosexual readers.
-They put Tim outside like a dog for being a bad boy.
-Author’s notes and percentages fill in details for the reader that aren’t in the fic. I’m not going to read all of that. Put important information in the fic.
-Lot’s of excessive jealousy. Painfully heteronormative.
What about the good?
Readable. Dramatic like Big Brother. Can be an entertaining read if it’s your thing.
Conclusion
Left a bad taste in my mouth. I feel like the author literally hated half the cast and was annoyed while writing them. When you don’t enjoy writing something it shows. Also, her other work (pandemic! Reader X X-Virus) is super tone-deaf and I don’t recommend that either. Don’t recommend joining this fic’s Discord server either. Won’t get into details but in my and my friend's experience: it’s not a good environment with a lot of playing favorites.
-
Next up on our list is a grossly popular Eyeless Jack X Reader fic.
My Imaginary Monster
Summary: Immoral monster, Eyeless Jack, sneaking into a 5-year-old girl's room. He gets attached, sticks around through her childhood. Thing is, he gets real creepy. Starts to catch feelings for a 16-year-old he’s watched grow up. He kisses a minor who reciprocates his feelings which is textbook child grooming. Nasty fucker runs away, there’s some drama from that. (Y/n) grows up, comes back to town, and Jack’s a’creepin’.
What’s wrong with it?
-Jack is a literal child groomer.
-Do I need to say more??? Immortal adult kisses a 16 y/o. Gross.
-People in the comments are going gaga for grooming. Are you kidding me, he’s a pedophile.
-The OC’s take up more than half of the ~200 page run time. I couldn’t get attached to any of them even after the supposed significance. Which is fine but they took up so much of the fic that it got boring and annoying incredibly quickly.
What’s good about it?
I enjoyed Ben. He did the right thing and I can respect that. Trans and poluyamourus reprrensentation.
Conclusion:
No child grooming in my fucking lobby. I think the author was trying to paint it in a bad light. But the thing is, you can write a creepy stalker fic without making them a groomer. A lot of people are trying to escape their troubles through fanfic, including those who’ve dealt with sexual abuse. Don’t bring that into x reader spaces. Don’t put readers through that again.
-
Last and absolutely least we got a Tim X Reader.
BIG TW. FUCKING HUGE TW. MOST OF THE TW’S FROM EARLIER ARE FROM THIS ONE FIC.
Pure Forgiveness.
Summary: (Y/n) is abused by her mom. Her dad killed himself and she’s all (Y/n)’s got in this world. Until Tim comes along and “saves” her. He takes her to the mansion and keeps her as a pet to torture.
I’m going to get into all the nitty-gritty to satisfy your morbid curiosities so you don’t read it.
What’s wrong with it?
-Chapter 1 opens with (Y/n)’s miserable life. Her mom hates her so much she has a fucking torture table for (Y/n).
-There’s an attempted rape in chapter 2.
- She’s taken to the mansion by Tim in chapter 3 because he’s “off his medication” and “acting nicer than normal”. Hi, mentally ill person here, that’s not how it fucking works you ding dong.
-Mental illness is made out to we wholly evil.
-Also tic’s are made out to be scary. As a person with tics, don’t write tics as scary or super weird. Thanks.
-(Y/n) not being able to escape, fight back rapists, and other horrible shit is labeled as weak.
-At one point (Y/n) is dragged through the mansion, beer bottles and used condoms are thrown at her. Girl has to shower off cum.
-(Y/n) is tortured in various ways. Mostly beaten, berated, burned, cut, starved, etc.
-She is drugged and repeatedly raped by Brian and Toby. These rapes are recorded and shown to (Y/n).
-Brian has black hair. Why?
-Toby and Brian give (Y/n) a forced abortion.
-(Y/n) gets raped almost every fucking chapter.
-At one point Jack orally rapes (Y/n) to abort a baby.
-Toby and Brian are necrophiles. They skull fuck a corpse at some point. It is graphically described how they like to have sex with dead bodies.
-Slenderman forcefully impregnates (Y/n) to “keep the (Tim’s) baby safe” whatever the fuck that means.
Why does this happen?
Because Tim wants a kid because his dad raped his mom and his mom was a prostitute. He’s soooo sad guys :(((
Feeling hungry? Here’s some things that are eaten by various characters.
-Hair
-Cum (forced)
-Toby
-Piss
-A miscarried baby
What’s good about it?
Nothing. Fucking nothing. Don’t read it.
Conclusion
If you like this fic you need therapy, I’m not joking. It’s like a car crash and Rob Zombie movie horribly mish-mashed together. It sucks. The comments praise literal abuse and berate (Y/n) for being afraid. Fuck this fic and everything it stands for. It’s shock horror and torture for the sake of it. It makes no fucking sense and it’s harmful. People think this is okay. It’s not.
-
Thank you to my pals in the server for helping out and finishing some of these where I could not. Especially you Connie, everyone say thank you Connie she got through Pure Forgiveness. Absolute trooper legend. Again, don’t go out of your way to harass these people. I made this list so you can avoid these works because they have the potential to be upsetting. I’m not the police, I can’t force anyone to stop nor do I want to. Author’s are allowed to explore dark topics but some should be done respectfully or not at-fucking-all. I hope these people grow as writers and understand treating some things a certain way isn’t cool. You can enjoy dark fics, I do too, fuck I write them too, but Jesus God, some things are a no from me chief.

Prologue: Look What I Found Under This Big Rock – OP.“Apocrypha”
She was dead. It was 3PM on December 25 and Shirai Kuroko, a 1st year middle school girl with chestnut twintails and wearing nothing but a purple negligee, lay collapsed and unmoving on her bed in a Tokiwadai Middle School student dorm. She was completely dead.
As dead as a jellyfish rotting on the beach.
Tumblr media
“Onwee-shama…still hasn’t come home…”
Yes.
Her roommate Misaka Mikoto had yet to return after being sent to the hospital after the injuries she had received just a few days prior to the Violent Violet incident (Even though the injuries she sustained were relatively minor in comparison to some others who were caught up in it), but knowing her, the attractive Onee-sama was off enjoying herself elsewhere on Christmas and her cute underclassman had failed to board Noah’s Ark in time. She may have been sent to a deserted island all on her own. Shirai Kuroko had been tragically rejected. And it hurt all the more because she knew there was no ill will behind it.
She did not even have it in her to flail around in frustration. A monotone ringtone played from the phone she had left by her pillow, so she reached out with her face still down in the pillow and spoke in a deep, zombie-like voice.
Tumblr media
“Uwehhhh? A joint manhunt with Anti-Skill?”
“They’re apparently planning a major arrest. And isn’t that kind of violence your favorite thing, Shirai-san? The adults are actually offering to let you run wild for once, so you should probably take them up on it.”
Judgment apparently had a lot of work piled up even on Christmas.
She briefly considered resorting to pretending she was in too much pain to get out of bed due to being on her purple period which would curse you unless you forgot it existed before you turned 20…but then she had a different idea.
Yes.
If there was going to be some major incident happening, wouldn’t Misaka Mikoto be more liable to show up?
She leaped out of bed, fixed her mussed-up hair, and hurriedly responded.
Tumblr media
“Understood, Uiharu!! I will be there right away! Where is ‘there’, by the way!?”
Tokiwadai forced impeccable behavior on its students, so the dorms were strictly locked down around Christmas, but work for Judgment was an exception. This was Shirai Kuroko’s first Tokiwadai Christmas, but she managed to strut right past the dorm manager and out the supposedly impregnable front entrance in her winter uniform and a very long scarf.
“Now, then.”
She let out a breath and vanished into thin air.
She was a Level 4 Teleporter.
She could only teleport things a distance of 81.5m at once and she could only teleport a weight of 130.74kg at once, but by repeatedly teleporting herself, she could move at speeds greater than a racecar. All while circumventing the restrictions of the asphalt roads.
The safety of District 7 could vary a lot depending on the area, but she made her way to one of the less safe areas. There was decidedly unartistic graffiti spray painted on the walls and presumably stolen and abandoned bicycles were lying all around. There were no Christmas decorations in evidence.
A habit instilled in her by her job(?) took over and she photographed the registration sticker on the underside of the bike seats.
“Is this the place?” she asked over the phone.
“An Anti-Skill truck should be parked nearby, so go find them. I’m busy with my own work, so I unfortunately won’t be able to join you. …Eh? Oh, what is it? Ehhh!? You want me to turn all this into an automated processing flowchart today!?”
After some sounds of a struggle, the call ended.
(I guess I have to do this.)
Being out and about gave her more of a chance to run across her beloved Onee-sama, Misaka Mikoto, than lying dead on her dorm room bed. Especially when there was trouble afoot. Her motivation was impure as could be, but she hoped they would forgive her if she could restore order to the city while she was at it.
She knocked on the door of a large steel truck that looked like a windowless bus and the door opened from the inside.
It was larger than a van, but it actually felt cramped on the inside. Both walls were crammed full of industrial computers and the excess space was piled high with boxes of weapons and ammo. There were no ordinary lights, so the glow of monitors and heat of machines filled the limited space. This was apparently a logistics vehicle that handled data control and materiel provision more than transporting people.
(And this is only the backup. Does that mean they have more personnel deployed than would fit in one bus?)
She looked skeptical. Anti-Skill was the grownup organization that preserved order in Academy City. In terms of the world outside the city, they were similar to the police. She knew they were a highly organized group of volunteer teachers, but this appeared to be a largescale job even for them. Just think about it. How many police officers would be needed to chase down a single robber escaping through the streets? It would be unusual to find that not even 30 was enough.
Tumblr media
“Excuse me, but you requested my presence here. I am Shirai Kuroko of Judgment. If this major arrest required calling me in, does it involve an esper?”
They were not as polite as a phone shop’s receptionist. First, her voice was absorbed by silence and a few sharp glances turned her way after a bit. “The customer is always right” did not apply with civil servants. Plus, Shirai was not actually a customer. Finally, a nearby woman, who appeared to be an operator, spoke up.
She curtly gestured further back in the truck with her chin.
“You’re working with her.”
That seemed awfully cold after Shirai had gone out of her way to name herself and express her enthusiasm for the job, but she accepted it since she had seen some girls in her class who tried and failed to play the tsundere like that. Then she looked over in the indicated direction.
Much to her surprise, the person that she was to  work with did not look like your typical anti-skill officer based on the clothes they were wearing as well as the apparent age of the person.
She appeared to be a girl who looked around the age where she was in her last year of high school or starting her first year of university, though if she played her cards right, she looked like she could be any age. The girl had light purple hair, brown eyes and looked like she was wearing an old school uniform that surprisingly still fit her well. She  was sitting at the table with a laptop, seemingly engrossed in whatever she was looking at.
“.....”
For some reason, Shirai was under the impression that she gave off the air of a NEET or some kind of shut in, And just when she had that though, the NEET girl turned her head towards Shirai.
Tumblr media
“Hm? Oh, you’re that girl I’m working with.... Shiroko was it?”
Tumblr media
“...Shirai Kuroko. I am from Judgement. You don’t look like you’re from Anti-Skill... who are you?”
Tumblr media
“Ah, that’s right. I suppose I don’t seem like your common law enforcement officer do I? My name is Kihara Jikan. I’m a special researcher that’s been recruited by the Governing Board to help Anti-Skill with the large operation that’s taking place.”
Shirai raised an eyebrow. She was familiar with the name Kihara and how that family of scientists were responsible for all sorts of atrocities. The likes of Kihara Gensei and Therestina Kihara Lifeline comes to mind. But there was a chance that Jikan was not involved in anything like that,, so she had to refrain from judging her for now.
Tumblr media
“So, what is this operation we are participating in? Are we finally arresting MINUS?”
Tumblr media
“To be clear, you can’t let anyone know about this. Because we live in an age where people will do just about anything to get material for an online video or social media post. Unfortunately however, it’s not MINUS. You see, in recent times, dangerous individuals and organizations from the Outside have infiltrated Academy City. The governing board has finally had enough and decided to do something about it, hence why we’re both here. Welcome to Operation Apocrypha Shirai-san.”
Infiltrators from the outside? Shirai knew there were instances of people breaching Academy City’s security and entering, but she did not know it was on a scale like this, especially something that warranted the full resources of Anti-Skill and Judgement.
And based on Jikan’s tone, Shirai could tell that this was a situation that took precedence over MINUS, who had gone rather quiet after the District 19 incident.
Tumblr media
“These invaders are not espers or anything we are used to dealing with. These people and organizations operate on laws and concepts that are completely out of our current understanding, but thanks to the OUTRANK list that we got from the anonymous source called The Guardian, we know who is in this city and what we can expect when we engage them.”
Jikan shifted her laptop so Shirai could see before moving from a tab that had some stuff regarding research into Multi-Universe Theory and Temporal Quantum Mechanics before moving to a tab that held a really long list of names of organizations and their members, as well as some other names who were not really affiliated with any particular organization.
Shirai looked at the names and gave it a read through. She had never heard of these people or groups before, however she was more astonished by the number of them listed. These people were really in Academy City?
Tumblr media
“Hamanchi Eggoko, Lea Alecto, Rosimontis The Purger, The Wild Horse... are these people seriously in Academy City?”
Tumblr media
“OUTRANK doesn’t lie I’m afraid. Those people are either already in Academy City, or is expected to come here. Lea Alecto and Rosimontis The Purger are big enough threats on their own, several members of an organization known as The X has been spotted in this city including the one named Shinpachi Oni, the Wild Horse. Oh, and the names you listed are all Harmfuls. They are the ones you should be careful of.”
Tumblr media
“Harmfuls..?”
Tumblr media
“Yes. You see, we have a category system that separates the very dangerous elements from the less dangerous elements. The names you went over are all in the Harmful category, while others have been placed into the Beneficial category. It’s to know who we need to use the proper amount of force against really.”
Academy City was under attack.
Many hostile individuals and organizations were in the city illegally and were most likely here for some nefarious purpose. Looking at the organization called The X, as well as some of the others, there was great concern to be had for the security and safety of the city and its residents, but there were a lot of it that seemed unbelievable, at least on paper.
But then there was a thought that came to Shirai, something that should be asked now.
Tumblr media
“I do have a question. Why is it that these third parties are entering the city in the quantity that they have? Is this a coordinated effort between the groups, or is there something here that they are looking for?”
Tumblr media
“It’s hard to say whether or not the groups are working together, but based on what we have gotten, they seem to be mostly operating on their own. As for the second point, we believe that they are after some kind of experimental device that I can’t get into, but it’s imperative that none of them get their hands on it. Academy City tech can’t fall into the hands of outsiders.”
Tumblr media
“So, does that answer your questions for now? We are expected to apprehend Bazuko, one of the members of X soon so we can find out what the organization is really doing here as well as to give us the locations of the rest of their members, so I hope you are ready for some action, Shirai.”
This was a citywide sweep of forces from the Outside. Shirai had heard a few things about something called the Third Side or Cosmic Side being talked about on internet forums (the only reason she knows about it is because Saten Ruiko told her) but she could not give any clear definition of what the cosmic side was really supposed to be. It felt like a fictional thing spoken of only in rumors. Like a few separate incidents had appeared connected by coincidence, creating the illusion of something larger there. Yet it was all too ominous to just laugh it off in that way.
But this sounded exactly like something her Onee-sama would get involved in. If these Cosmic Siders or whatever was going to be causing problems on a scale like this, then it was only a matter of time before Mikoto threw herself into the fray. She was heavily involved in that last incident, so it was only natrual that she would appear somewhere down the line.
With that possibility filling her mind, Shirai Kuroko was ready to engage the enemy with more vigor than she normally would have.
Tumblr media
“Then let’s do our best to stop the criminals that are infiltrating our city!”
Start: Operation_Apocrypha

I've just accepted the fact that I’m never gonna actually properly finish Astra’s arc but I REALLY wanna get these extra dragons out of my FUCKING LAIR. Also I wanna move time forward like fuck. Arianna needs to grow up AT LEAST so it isn’t weird she and her new bae are boning and having kiddos lols. So long synopsis below. Tw: Mentions of rape..
@deadpool-scar-bro @hikayelastoria @cornsnoot-fr @redlion-fr@mushroomdraggo @murdoch-fr @tales-around-sornieth @frxemriss@rainhearts-hatchery @rexcaliburr-fr @starry-ampelope @plainstriderbard@reanimatedfr @voltaic-ambassador @sirensage-fr @journey-taken-fr @ally-fr @golden-lionsnake @rookfern-fr @fr-dew (let me know if you’d like to be added to the lore pinglist)
dragons are humanoid unless said otherwise
Astra has successfully finished poisoning Azazel. He’s super weak and she knows he won’t be able to fight back when she attempts to kill him.
Azazel doesn’t understand why he’s weakening. There have been no spells put on him, no jinxes or hexes. He’s still plotting on how to destroy those two other bastard children of Astra’s. He knows as long as she knows they exist she’ll not become fertile again for a long while because she’s got children out there. So he needs to figure out a way to get past the progenitor (UNLIKELY) and kill them.
Also Azazel isn’t a dragon. He isn’t a Shade either. Or rather he’s Shade adjacent. He’s a natural thing of Sorienth that came about during the explosion that birthed the Arcanist, Gladekeeper, and Plaguebringer. He’s a parasite that infects other host bodies and is effectively undead, not alive or dead himself but not a zombie. He exists in a between living and death, a thing stuck at the cusp of being one thing in perminance. Before the rise of dragons Azazel infected Beastclan members and used them in order to ‘live’. With dragons now the dominant species he’s been finding different dragons to be his host for centuries. This Imperial is his latest host. His host was already a bit mad but Azazel’s cruelty and undying nature and need to survive above all else drove him even deeper mad. Azazel is now seeking to make himself a new host by using his current body and the one of an extremely powerful witch, Astra. Thus he’s been raping her to produce children with her but she’s been so stubborn and hateful she’s been doing whatever she can to ensure he never gets close to their children to perform the ceremony that would allow him into the new host body. Astra having her latest clutch with someone other than him has infuriated him and they’re untouchable. Azazel is old and cruel but values survival above all else. He won’t risk angering a progenitor, who are more powerful than him (and he knows it) because death is likely. He would have since moved on to Killing but Savathun said if he touched her daughter she’d feed him to Abbadon. So while acting predatory to the girl he won’t actually do anything to her unless she’s older and consents but that’ll be a while.
Astra needs to put Azazel in place so she can get to Savathun’s office and find that letter Azazel gave her to read in the event of his death that reveals Astra’s secret Azazel has been blackmailing her with to let him fuck her. If Savathun knows it she’ll throw Astra out or kill Aten OR both. She can’t allow that.
Azazel is getting impatient tho. He tries to force Astra and to kinda both their surprise she is able to fight him off like she couldn’t before. Tail between his legs he goes and takes his aggression and anger out on Slaughter who’s already afraid of him.
The Warren is sort of like… a gate. It connects to the vast underground catacombs beneath the Hewn City. Abbadon was charged by the Plaguebringer to defend it on behalf of the Lightweaver because PB knows her bitch sister is SHIT at keeping anything hidden and safe (Emperors anyone?). So Abbadon was made and put to be the warden of the Warren and protect it so that dragons couldn’t get in and things from the Hewn City couldn’t come out. He was doing a perfect job, with only minor things from the City managing to slip past when he slept, minor shadow or Shade wisps of little consequence other than give you an impending feeling of dread and fear. Then Azazel came and he is EXACTLY the sort of thing Abbadon was made to protect the world from getting from the Hewn City or places like it. To ‘protect’ Azazel from Abbadon Oryx and Savathun threw him out of his own Warren. Now he stalks the island the Warren is located on to catch and kill what now can escape. So far nothing large has realized the gate is unguarded but he knows it is a matter of time.
Slaughter is a thing that showed up during a lapse in Abbadon’s vigil. They are a Hewn City thing, similar to a Eye of the Lightweaver larva. It is harmless for the most part and obeys simple actions. It was given the order to look after little Killing and it does. It comforts her in her loneliness, it makes sure she eats, it brings her to and from places in the Warren, its presence protecting Killing from the minor evils that lurk in the deep tunnels and shadows of the Warren. It is also PETRIFIED of Azazel and will cry and scream when he gets close he touches it or gets close to it. The crying usually summons Astra who will intervene and send Azazel away. Or taking Killing away allowing Slaughter to run. Abbadon sees Slaughter sort of like his niece and since it is a docile, gentle thing despite its name and appearance and when he can tries to protect it from Azazel but isn’t always able to.
After Astra fought him off Azazel goes to take his anger out on Slaughter, know they’re something that won’t fight back. He ends up killing it in his anger. Abbadon feels that and gets PISSED and stalks down into the Warren and confronts Azazel and almost kills him but he holds back because he promised both himself and Aten he’d let Aten end his miserable life for the suffering he’s inflicted on his sister. So he just scared Azazel a good bit and maybe bites him a bit and tells Azazel he won’t do it now but it will be soon. He then goes and tells Astra she needs to do something NOW. He cannot abide to have this disgusting thing in his Warren anymore.
Astra has Abbadon go get Aten because Abbadon is right. Azazel is weak. They can finish him. Aten arrives and is thrilled his sister is like ‘remember you said you’d kill him for me?’ ‘yeah?’ ‘That time is now’ ‘!!! yassss’. So Aten shows up at Azazel’s room and just kinda… CRUSHES him, like in his full dragon form just casually pins Azazel while Astra goes to get the blackmail. Azazel tries to use magic but Aten just kinda eats whatever magic he tries to produce and is SMUG about it.
Astra goes into Savathun’s office while she’s out and starts rifling around for the letter. Knowing Azazel it will be obvious and ‘classy’. Just as she finds it Savathun shows up and asks her what she’s got. After a bit of back and forth it comes to light that not only did Savathun know Azazel was raping her but she allowed and maybe even encouraged it a little because she hoped that Astra would realize she was being punished for her sins. And she had guessed what was in that message because she knew the entire time what Astra’s secret was. She knew and hoped Azazel would convince her otherwise to not be so disgusting and him forcing himself onto her was a suitable punishment.
Furious that her teacher, a woman who treated her like a daughter, who expected to be seen as her mother, would just allow some strange man to repeatedly rape and impregnate her INFURIATES Astra. She attacks Savathun and Savathun thinks nothing of her. She’s a little girl in her eyes. But Astra has been learning far more magic than Savathun has been teaching her. Darker magic. Killing magic. She doesn’t do it easily or quickly but she does end up slaying Savathun. She’s all fucked up from it, like bruised and battered and shit. But the one who allowed her abuse to continue is now dead. Better for it.
She goes to where Aten is basically toying with Azazel. She’s got the blackmail and just goes ‘Savathun knew the entire time. Your blackmail was worthless’ ‘then don’t sound so smug’ ‘I also killed her. Kill him, brother’ ‘my pleasure 83c’ and Aten just kinda… bites him in half.
Because Azazel isn’t a real dragon and is just a parasite inside a host that while the host dies it doesn’t kill the parasite. It leaves Azazel as black smoke (remember Shade adjacent) and tries to take over Aten but Astra stops it. Abbadon has also been watching all of this since he wants to make sure both Azazel and the host are dead. He can kill a thing like Azazel.
But before Abbadon can kill him Astra is like ‘no. I will take him’ ‘as a host?’ ‘of course not. He’s going to be my thing to command’ and she’s a necromancer. An actually REALLY POWERFUL necromancer. She seals Azazel inside a locket to act as a necrotic powersource for her magic.
Now that all of the older Stitchers are dead that leaves the Warren empty again, the way it was when Oryx and Savathun found it. Aten reminds them they need to, somehow, close whatever was opened in the Warren and Abbadon doesn’t like that. His entire life is to protect the opening of the Hew City. Astra did promise Layali she would do so so she will. She makes Abbadon take her to the actual gate where he would normally stand guard. This is the only way in or out of the Hewn City from the Warren. Astra casts a new seal across the entrance, destroying the gate, collapsing the tunnel for a mile beyond, and places a magical seal across the face which would act as the same as if Abbadon was there. Abbadon isn’t sure how he feels about this because now he has no purpose. ‘You have a purpose, Abbadon; I am your contract holder now.’ And Abbadon is kinda >:C about the entire thing but also she got him there.
Astra leaves the Warren with Aten and and Killing and goes to collect her children and report to Layali that Azazel is dead and the Warren’s gate sealed. Savathun is also dead. Layali is pleased to hear that and Ado and Ilia, who have NEVER seen their mother before, are both very excited and nervous about meeting Astra. She’s very happy to see them and holds them and then Aten says that they don’t have to stay here. There’s a place for them.
While he was away for several years Aten was an apprentice to the clan’s carpenter and building builder; Fjord. In that time he learned how to build houses with him. Aten built a big cottage for his sister, himself, her children, and Killing for when they were finally free of the Warren. It’s nothing spectacular but it’s above ground with big windows. It’s the first building he’s ever made by himself and he’s super proud of it. Astra loves it immediately.
Astra instructs Abbadon to now be responsible for the protection of Killing since Slaughter is gone. Protect her, make sure she’s safe. Abbadon isn’t exactly thrilled about this but he’s duty bound now that his original duty is ruined. So he takes to the new duty.
Astra empties out Savathun and Oryx’s library of books. Ones that seem significant her pendant reacts to. The ones of little consequence she gives to the Master to add to his collection. He is THRILLED to have them and casually starts inviting her over for drinks and to talk. Half of his staff are instantly in love with Aten as he goes with her because he knows the reputation the Manor has and doesn’t want anyone making unwanted advances on his sister.
That’s basically the end of Astra’s arc. Finally. Fuck. I can now move onto Layali and Nadalin’s arc and moving the clan to the Wind territory.

Summer 2017 Anime Overview: Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul and The Reflection
My classic anime overview posts are making a comeback! I watched 7 different anime in the Summer 2017, so we’ve got a lot to talk about- so much so that I’ll do a couple anime each post rather than just doing one giant post.
I fully believe in saving the best for last, so we’ll rank and review these anime in order from worst to best. Which means we’ll be starting with the anime I found the weakest out of what I watched this season. Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul and The Reflection. Are both of them bad anime? Or are they just not quite as a good as the other fare? Let’s dive in and find out!
Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul
Tumblr media
Yep, this was easily the worst anime I watched this season. Not animation-wise, the art was very nice (though not quite as good as its prequel). But story-wise? WOW. It’s been a while since I’ve seen an anime- or a story period- end that badly.
And unlike a lot of people, I didn’t really come into this anime expecting much. Rage of Bahamut: Genesis, the first season, was a beautifully animated but incredibly shallow adventure romp with a messy ending that managed to be both cliche and nonsensical in how it fridged the main female character. It was fun for the most part, but also eyerollingly trope-y and sloppy storytelling wise, with fairly 2D characters. I came into this season expecting much the same. And for the first half-ish of the anime that was what I got. It certainly wasn’t well written, it was sexist, it was cliched, but it worked okay for what it was, which was a silly swords and sorcery story where you could just turn your brain off and enjoy the eye candy.
There wasn’t much to the characters, but they were pleasant and likable enough. Nina, the lead of the story, was just kinda dragged along by the plot and didn’t have much going on (her main conflict is that when she gets turned on by a dude she turns into a dragon yes i’m serious), but her gung-ho attitude made her fun to watch. There was also an wacky all-lady prison break midway through the show that was kinda awesome.
Tumblr media
(I should note though, one of the characters is a very fantastical take on Jeanne D’Arc. And she’s portrayed  as someone who sucks at fighting if she doesn’t have the gods on her side because women are weak or whatever I guess! She finds some fulfillment only when a god pulls a Virgin Mary on her and forcibly impregnates her with an angel son. After this, her whole character revolves around her son. I had a lot of problems with that for obvious reasons).
But then. OH BUT THEN. I thought the first season’s denouement and end was messy, but I HADN’T SEEN NOTHIN’. Not only was this ending horrendous, it managed to damage all the characters involved (except for the zombie girl, Rita, who is too cool to be ruined by anything) and even basically damage the first season. If I cared enough to go back and watch that season, this ending would make it a sour experience, basically, just from how thoroughly the plot and characters from that season were mangled by this follow-up. Nothing redeemable was left in its wake.
Basically the whole story was overtaken by one of the most poorly conceived love interests I’ve ever seen. Nina’s beloved, Charioce, was a super sexy dude who had a few tiny flaws, like how he’d, y’know, massacred an entire race and also slaughtered, enslaved and tortured yet ANOTHER race (even putting them in gladiator style death matches for entertainment) and unjustly imprisoned a literal saint of a woman and told her he was only keeping her alive so he could murder her small child in front of her.
Tumblr media
But you see guys, he danced with Nina a couple times and is super hot and his mom’s dead which is sad so it’s okay that he did a little genocide, tried to kill all Nina’s friends (one of whom was ten) and threw her in jail. I’m serious. That was the shows logic. Turns out the reason for all this was it was some plan to unseal the dragon a character had been sacrificed to seal for the next hundred years in Genesis. (So he effectively rendered her death totally meaningless). He unsealed it just so he could kill it for good . The only explanation we get for his double dose of genocide was that ONE of the races has a superweapon he needed to kill a dragon. Yep, no explanation given as to why he needed to do kill all those beings or enslave them or put them in death matches or personally torment a woman who did nothing to him, but the show sure treated it like it explained everything and meant we were totally supposed to forgive AND feel sorry for this sexy, sexy tyrant.
(In the end, the genocide and slavery ends up being a footnote: everyone loves Charioce because he killed a dragon, the demons are being payed low wages instead of being enslaved so everything’s fine now, no justice for those who were slaughtered, no consequences for the oppressors, no reparations made, no word on whether the death camps and many other atrocities even stopped happening, nothing.)
Nina being in love with him damaged her irreparably as a character too, even though she was perfectly okay before that- it was just so infuriating that she could set aside all the people he killed and the fact he’d tormented her friends because he was a smexy dancer. I get what they were going for-a kind of starcrossed Disney ~love isn’t rational~ type thing. And “love isn’t rational” is just the laziest writing copout ever, I’m so sick of it.
Tumblr media
You can sell a romance where one party has done horrible things and the other one loves them anyway if you have the writing skill. But in order to sell that romance as understandable, you need to make the audience like that character too. The character needs to be actually endearing and interesting in some way. That way when so-and-so is tormented about how she loves him despite the things he’s done, the audience is tormented for the same reason. But there was no reason for Nina to be hopelessly in love with Charioce. Dude had the personality of a wet paper towel- I don’t think he emoted once the entire anime, even when he was on the verge of death. He didn’t offer her any invaluable support or guidance to Nina either. Yet she at one point said she’d choose the ENTIRE WORLD over him if it came down to it. A guy she danced with like twice!
The worst thing about the Nina/Charioce romance is how a bunch of characters were literally sacrificed for it. One of the main characters of the show got himself killed shielding Charioce from those he had wronged, despite the fact Charioce had done absolutely nothing to warrant such devotion and said character didn’t even have a meaningful relationship with him. It was a comically anticlimatic death too, it was out of nowhere, the other characters barely emoted about it with even his supposed best friend basically shrugging it off.
Tumblr media
The other person sacrificed solely to add drama to Nina and Charioce’s lurve was Nina’s ten year old friend, who was unceremoniously shanked from behind  after being a major character for most of the season. It was so cruel and pointless, I felt sure a magic resurrection was coming for the kid, but nope- he was killed off solely to cause some drama between the good guys and Charioce because the genocide apparently wasn’t enough to make our heroes mad at him. Nina does finally get mad at him, but only for ten minutes, then she and almost everyone else instantly forgave him upon learning he didn’t TECHNICALLY directly kill this one kid.
Even though he HAD been trying to kill the kid ALL SEASON and the bounty he put on this kids head was still pretty much the direct cause of his death. But nah,he didn’t like, specifically tell the killer “hey go murder this small child” , he just heavily implied anyone who did it would get a reward from him, so it’s all fine. Even the kid’s grieving mother and father figure eventually forgave Charioce about this for no apparent reason.
Speaking of pointlessness, the cherry on top of the shit sundae was that the dragon all these characters were sacrificed to kill? The one whose death was supposedly the payoff worth all this genocide and melodrama? It was revealed in the last minute of the story that Charioce DIDN’T EVEN MANAGE TO KILL IT. Rendering the entire mess of a narrative COMPLETELY MOOT.
Tumblr media
Seriously, if you want to see how overfocusing on badly written heterosexual romances can destroy an entire narrative, this series is a prime example. If you want to see an example or writers thinking a male character can be forgiven for any atrocity and win the female lead’s heart as long as he’s stoic and sexy and manly about it, this series will show you. This show demonstrates the worst pitfalls of romance narratives- writers seem to think as long as it’s an attractive man and woman getting together, they don’t have to bother with characterization or logic to sell their connection.
it’s a real shame- poor Nina could have been a compelling lead. There was stuff there that could have been developed into something cool had the writers cared at all- she could turn into a dragon, it was mentioned she was looked down on for not being fully dragon, she came from a rural village and was fairly innocent and didn’t know much about the world, her father died tragically- but rather than explore any of that, it was decided because she was a woman, her entire arc should be about her swooning and crying over Bishie McKillsaLot, never mind anything else.
Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul could have been a shallow but entertaining show like its predecessor. In the end though, the only thing entertaining about it by the end was how hard it crashed and burned.
The Reflection
Tumblr media
The Reflection isn’t quite as bad as it’s reputation in the anime community right now suggests. Which is not to say it’s a good show. It’s not good. But it’s definitely far from the worst anime I’ve see and has a few interesting aspects.
This show is a collaboration between an anime studio and Stan Lee, (who I guess really likes being involved in anime- he’s done this before with Heroman) and it follows a group of superheroes. The basic premise is that three years ago, a strange light and smoke hit people around the world. Some were killed, some gained superpowers. Those who gained powers were called ‘The Reflected”. The world hates and fears them, in true Marvel style. Now a villain named Wraith is kidnapping people for mysterious reasons.
The Reflection is a messy show, which is apparent just from the animation. The colors are very flat and the lines are very thick, which seems to be an attempt to capture the classic comic book feel. But the thing is, old comics chose to have a bright color palette, or at least a highly contrasting one, for good reason. if you do that kind of style with a dark color palette, it ends up looking very muddy. Unfortunately, that’s what The Reflection chose to do. This was especially egregious in the last episode, where having the darkly colored characters against a dark sky made it very hard to tell what was happening.  On top of that, the animation was very limited in general.
Tumblr media
There’s also a lot a standard superhero stories here that are not given a fresh spin- we have the angsty product of a lab experiment, the shallow, show-offhero who learns superheroing is SRS BUSINESS after his loved ones are killed due to his negligence and most disappointingly, a main villain whose only motivation is that he wants to plunge the world into a vague, generic sort of darkness.
Some stuff is just straight up not explained, which made the finale confusing- we see a flashback that is supposed to make us forgive a character for his actions, but it’s so incoherent and quick it reveals nothing. Nor is the villain really explored in a way that makes sense (save for an extremely on the nose message about “darkness”, which was repeated so often in the episode I got sick of hearing it), his actions are unclear and the whole thing is just generally clunky. It seems like they chose not to explain a lot of stuff (and end on a cliffhanger) in hopes of getting a sequel, but you can leave mysteries and openings for a possible season 2 without being opaque and hard to follow. In fact, a final episode like The Reflection’s is way more likely to turn fans off than leave them wanting more.
Tumblr media
However, The Reflection does have a few interesting ideas and good moments. One of the main heroes, Lisa, has a wheelchair that transforms into a giant robot, which is rad as hell and should be included in every superhero narrative from now on. Her personality is also endearing- she’s a determined, fiery, geeky girl who loves comics. Her whole storyline where her father is all protective of her due to her disability and she tells him doesn’t consider her condition tragic and proves she’s actually the one who can protect him is fairly heavy handed , but it’s a very positive narrative, and I’m especially glad to see it in an anime after being burned HARD by the ableism in Yuki Yuna is a Hero. She’s sadly sidelined after her introductory episode (it’s especially strange that her comic book fandom never comes up again), but still remains a good character.
There’s also a character who was blind, except he can see the silhouettes of people who have superpowers and thus pick out when when people are superpowered that way- that’s another good concept and I liked that his wife was the physically strong and imposing one of their partnership, though she didn’t get as much characterization as I’d like (in fact, she pretty much had none outside her relationship with her husband). The episodes revolving around Lisa and this pair were definitely the strongest of the series.
Tumblr media
The lead of the story, Eleanor, also had a lot of potential. She had the heart of a hero, but she was desperate for validation and because of that desperation she ended up having an identity crisis where she developed an alternate personality. If her psychology had been explored more, that could have been a really interesting concept- but it wasn’t really explored at all beyond generic “this personality is the darkness within me” so it ended up being more on-the-nose and boring than anything. Still, I appreciated Eleanor’s scrappiness and in the hands of a more competent show, she could have been really great.
The other characters were duds though, unfortunately- the villains were generic and kinda just there. The hero X-On drove a lot of the plot, yet we learned pretty much nothing about him and he had no personality other than being kind of a dick. The magical girl squad was a fun touch and I loved seeing them kick ass and save the day, but they didn’t have distinct personalities from each other or much thematic significance to the story.
Basically, there’s nothing offensive or repellent about The Reflection. I have to give it points for trying something different stylistically from the usual anime fare. It’s a show that could have been good if it had been executed a little better and given more room to breathe. However, it wasn’t, so it ended up being a very clunky, forgettable anime.
