It's kinda shocking to me how few people seem to know how prevalent the 'my great grandmother was cherokee' myth is and how it's almost never actually true, especially when it comes with things like 'never signed up' or 'fell off the trail' or 'courthouse burned down destorying the documentation' etc etc.

People just don't even seem to know the history like.. when the Trail happened. My great great great grandfather was 2 years old during Removal in 1838, so peoples 'my great grandmother hid in the mountains!' is so clearly wrong. And we have rolls. From before and after removal, rolls done by cherokee nation and others by the government, rolls that were not stored in one random flammable courthouse. It's not difficult to find the actual evidence of ancestry.

And just.. there are lots of ways those family stories get started. It was a practice during the confederacy to claim cherokee ancestry to show one's family had 'deep roots in the south' that they were there before the cherokee were removed. Many people pretended to be cherokee and applied for the Guion-Miller payout just to try to steal money meant for cherokees - 2/3rds of the applicants were denied for having 0 proof of actual cherokee ancestry. [We even see lawyers advertising signing up for the Miller roll just to try to get free money.] And the myth even started in some families in the cherokee land lotteries, where the land stolen from us was raffled off, including the house and everything that was left behind when the cherokees were removed. We have seen people whose families just take these things stolen from the cherokee family and adopt them into their own family story, saying that they were cherokee themselves.

If you had some family story about being cherokee and you wanna have proof one way or the other, check out this Facebook group run by expert cherokee genealogists that do research for free. Just please read the rules fully and respect the researchers. They run thousands of people's ancestries a year and their average is only around 0.7% of lines they run actually end up having true cherokee ancestry.

pheww the age old question. i think to begin, youd be surprised how many older fans of soad and ratm were probably leftist, but as they grow older they just…become less so. which is kinda the narrative a lot of older people give to young radicals, like “once u reach my age you become more conservative!” type of bs. the other possibility lies in media literacy. fascists who love leftist music think its made…for them. and their fucked up conspiracy theories. yes, maybe they’re antiwar to a point (in terms of class and protecting poor whites), but a lot of em see these songs as attacking systems that are full of pedophile jewish democrats who are in control of the economy and media and wealth…its kind of the like the usual “you see what youre looking for” kind of blindness. it takes them away from the reality that soad and ratm have roots in being anti policing, anti war, anti drug war, anti fascism, anti violence against women, etc. its hilarious and wickedly frustrating to watch people listen to music literally saying “some of those who work forces are the same who burn crosses” and be like ah yes. those are the crazy anti christian leftists.

i made a descendents tee!!

wanted to make one for months now but never got around to it, so whats a better moment than being stuck at home cause you got your tits cut off

this is how it turned out, the front is traced and the back is stenciled using acrylic paint, after painting i cropped off the sleeves and took in the sides a bit so it would fit better. ironed it to seal in the paint and thats pretty much it!

since the shirts fabric is quite thin i just printed out the design, taped it to some cartboard, shoved it in the shirt and traced it.

thats it, im currently working on some "new" patchpants so ill probably post about those soon

the kyoshi flashback in Avatar Day and the sheer scale of ba sing se in comparison to…. literally everywhere else in the world really has me thinking about the politics that lead to such distinct “nations”. it makes way more sense for a land as vast as the earth kingdom to have once been earth kingdoms with local land disputes between feudal lords - as we see with the conflict kyoshi ended - only for a world-spanning war to have driven first the lords to unite under ba sing se’s banner for protection, and then as the war continued, increasing waves and waves of refugees and oma shu standing as the only remaining hold out due to their unique position (top of a mountain - most other earth kingdom towns we see are in valleys) such would explain how many ruins and ghost towns we see throughout s2 but also the improbability of a land that big to be unified under a single leader for that long
