Random things in songs that make me feel some type of way
1. The line “he said he prays that every thought’s been pre assigned to him, ‘cause it’s blinding” in The Distance by Fever dolls. Something about it speaks to the feeling of never being able to turn your brain off and wanting to run until you hit a wall and your brain just stops and calms down for the first time that you can remember.
2. The entirety of Eat You Alive by The Oh Hellos. EVERY TIME THAT SONG COMES ON WHEN IM ON A WALK I HAVW TO START RUNNING AND THATS SAYING SOMETHING BECAUSE IM ASTHMATIC. Just. GOD it makes me feral. “I’ve seen the true face of the things you call life, the song of the siren that holds your desires. And death she is cunning and clever as hell, but she’ll eat you alive” followed by the entire band just like singing from such a primal place like are you FUCKING KIDDING ME UGH THATS JUST EVERYTHING.
3. Just something about Colter Wall’s entire vocal and guitar performance on Sleeping on the Blacktop. Colter wall is a criminally underrated vocalist and if you think you don’t like country music I BEG you to listen to colter wall especially the Imaginary Appalachia album. Also the line “three dead in a crash on the number four, two witnesses blown up high. Not sure who’s will be done but you can call me a sinner for wondering why.” Like. Sir what the fuck where did u pull that out if it’s incredible. I don’t think I have to explain that line but god is it good.
4. Just. Everything about the production on Dance in the Graveyards by Delta Rae SPECIFICALLY the alternative version. Something about it is so raw and joyous and hopeful for the future and what comes after. It is a radical accepting and embracing of the cycle of life and death and it’s just beautiful.
5. The line “the devil knocks but he don’t call no more” in Living Proof by Des Rocs. I listen to des rocs mainly for the vibes as opposed to the lucid (not that he’s a bad lyricist by any means but I feel like the purpose of his songs are to feel badass and he succeeds at that but it’s not always super deep) but that line is both so funny/sassy and just so incredible to me. Oh yeah the devil knocks but he’s more of a nuisance now, I mean the man doesn’t even call we don’t even have our weekly meetings anymore. Like that’s so funny
6. The live versions of both How To Be Me and Chalk Outlines by Ren X Chinchilla I know I’ve already used this word but there is something so primal and deeply human and expressive in both their voices and when they harmonize it’s so incredible and any imperfections only serve to make the song better and more emotional. They are two of the strongest live performers I’ve ever heard like. Most of Ren’s music videos are performed LIVE. And it sounds even better than the recording?? I love Ren so much go listen to him
7. The line “it doesn’t fucking matter if I don’t wanna go, to college or to heaven or to anywhere alone” in Warm Regards by Penelope Scott once again, feral, primal, deeply human perfectly yelled, perfect for blasting at 1 am when ur going through it
8. Just the concept of Cryptid (mothman) by Ratwyfe like she gets it. Yes I have insecurities of how I look but not because I want to look conventionally attractive, but because I want to be a vaguely transmasc cryptid like idk what to tell y’all.
9. The “WAAAAAAAAAAA” in Light My Love by Greta Van Fleet. It just feels like breaking through the clouds to see a beautiful clear sky
10. The way that Air So Sweet by dodie sounds like walking through a thick fog just after rain to fry to find yourself
11. The line “you spent the first 5 years trying to get with the plan, and the next 5 years trying to be with your friends again” by LCD Soundsystem just. Yeah dude ur right.
12. Everything gang of youths has ever done but specifically the entirety of Go Farther In Lightness but specifically The lyrics and performance in Perservere. This is the most devastating song I’ve ever heard maybe and that says a lot. Specifically the lines “I couldn’t count the times I’ve ragged on heaven, as an opiate invented by the weak. It’s an argument I hate ‘cause I’m content to love the fates” LIKE FUUUUUUCK. This is a song about a child dying and it making him reevaluate pretty much his entire belief system and how just bea cause you’ve been hurt by a religion and no longer believe in it, doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to talk shit about it but it also doesn’t mean you can use your bad experience with it to hurt others who honestly need it to make any sense of this cruel and chaotic world we live in. People who truly believe and who’s lives it truly improves are not bad or stupid for believing. And wow it hurts so bad as someone who did not have a great time being Catholic and is extremely aware of all the bad it has done to people.
13. Autoheart’s Hungover In The City Of Dust. Jody Gadsden has one of the most beautiful and unique voices I have ever heard. He sounds like an Angel and I mean that in the way of he can sound so quiet and confronting but almost piercing at the same time, he has one of the most emotional voices of all time and like. He just gets it idk.
And the best for last.
14. Ok so the entirety of Hi Ren by Ren is fantastic BUT . The fucking climax of the song at the end where he says “and I go by many names also, some people know me as hope, some people know me as the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope. And you know how I know that I’ll prosper? ‘Cause I stand here beside you today. I have stood in the flames that cremated my brain and I didn’t ONCE flinch or shake” like FUCK. REN. WHAT THE FUCK. THAT HITS MY SOUL SOMEWHERE SO DEEP AND BRINGS ME GO THE EDGE OF TEARS EVERY TIME

this might have been one of the easiest playlists I’ve ever made, which probably says something about my music taste (“what kind of music do you like?” “oh, you know, anything vaguely on the spectrum between southern gothic and dark academia, I guess.”) have a listen if you like!
(no squash song because it doesn’t exist, sadly. also this is definitely a mood playlist for TRC in general, not for any specific character and definitely not what the characters themselves would actually listen to)

do any of the delta rae fans here have the lyrics to true revolutions? obsessed with this song and not having access to the full lyrics is killing me
here’s what i have so far (just based on what I can hear and I’m hard of hearing so it may be wrong; parts I can’t even guess at are marked with [??]):
Verse 1 (Ian):
History is cruel to the losers All my friends need something to live for How do we make bread from the hunger? And how do we break down?
Chorus 1 (Ian):
We do it with our backs and we do it with our hearts It takes another hour then we’ll [??] in the dark [??] solutions never come without a spark So no one will stop it now
Verse 2 (Brittany):
All my friends [??] till tomorrow Years from now, we’ll play with the sorrow How do we give back what was borrowed? And how do we [??] now?
Chorus 2 (Brittany):
We do it with our hands and we made it from our [??] [??] We don’t need any reason, [??] And no one will stop us now
Chorus 3 (All):
We do it ‘cause we’re [??] and we do it ‘cause we’re lost We do it [??] ‘cause we’re laying down our cross [??] So no one will stop it now
Bridge (Ian):
And in the streets we’re laughing And in the streets we still believe That we might find our happiness That they would grant us justice
Someone made us a promise And we won’t let them break it No, we won’t let them break us No, we won’t let them
Verse 4 (Ian):
Congressmen, you [??] the cowards Standing there, stop wasting the hours When did you trade money for power? And how do we take back the world that made us who we are? Chorus 4 (Ian):
It’s in our voices, we’re [??] from our wrongs We point to the streets till we remain marching strong We don’t need their permission, we’ve been here all along And no one will stop us now
Chorus 5 (Ian):
We do it with our backs and we do it with our hearts It takes another hour then we’ll [??] in the dark True revolutions never come without a spark So no one will stop it now
We do it with our (Ooooh) We do it with our (Ooooh) We do it with our (Ooooh) We do it with our (Ooooh) We do it with our

This is super random, but have you heard the song "Come Back Alive" by Delta Rae? I just listened to it and it made me think of your time traveling Quincey comics (which are awesome, by the way!)
Ah I haven't, I'll definitely check it out though! And thank you!!

This Rotten Work Playlists: Zell edition!
As @evelynhug0 so kindly requested, I'm going to release each of the main character playlists (and one for the main ship, Rachel and Daiyu) once a week leading up to the release of the book!
Third up is Marcel "Zell" Oathkeeper, one of the two best friends of Rachel and our resident disaster poly bisexual. Born into a Magical family, Zell is a bit out of place in the Normie world, what with his yellow turtlenecks, overalls, and ascots, but he's rather enthusiastic about certain discoveries, such as Guitar Hero and Mountain Dew. He likes to experiment with his cooking in his free time and his best friends have been the unfortunate recipients of many Mountain-Dew-related experiments. Underneath his optimistic attitude, however, lies a deep-seated survivor's guilt and worse coping methods than he's letting on, the best of which is the garden of ghosts he's maintaining with his Vine-Slinging powers (aka plant powers).
As Rachel describes him in Chapter 1:
“Excuse you, I love my clothes.” Zell even reaches up and smooths out his neon yellow henley to prove the point.
I arch an eyebrow at the state of his pants. “Tell that to the dirt stains on your knees, Ni.”
“You just can’t appreciate the beauty of nature, Ray,” Zell tsks as he grabs his backpack from Stebbie’s well-organized hands.
That’s Marcel Oathkeeper in his natural form for you: Zell the plant boy. Overalls and plant magic and a rooftop garden above our apartment. Dirt constantly caked under his fingernails and ground into his pants. Long, gangly limbs that looked awkward until he grew into them. He and Stebbie are quite the match, given the nearly twelve-inch-height-difference between them.
