Traditional fantasy isekai au where:
Yuu is isekaid to Twisted Wonderland as a child, in a setting that's hundreds of years before the main game, and is adopted by a family there. Maybe Grim is a normal cat that came with them and gained the ability to talk and do magic out of a desire to protect his best friend. They grow up and train as a soldier of some sort out of gratitude to their adoptive parents to protect them, eventually leaving their place with Grim in search of adventure depending on where they landed:
City of Flowers! Yuu who was raised by the people who lived in the Court of Miracles and wants to get a job with the city guard to help fight for the rights of their adoptive home. They're helped by a friend they made as a child, the son of well respected parents who came to heavily rely on Yuu after the loss of his younger brother. Now a well respected legal student with his eye on a judge's seat, Rollo is hiding a deadly secret: he is a powerful mage and you are one of the only people who knows. He's also desperately in love with you and at real risk of going insane if something bad happens to the one good thing he has left in his life.
Land of Dawning! Yuu who hunts monsters along the coast line and finds a badly beaten merfolk on the beach and patches him up without a single thought. The man scolds them when he wakes, wondering why Yuu is so unafraid of what he could do to them now that he's awake only to be met with a shrug and a warning that poachers much less kind than Yuu are in the area who see non typical mer such as himself as monsters. Yuu happens to have a bounty for them. Oya? Jade says he's quite aware of that and what's more, they have his brother and a dear friend. Won't you continue to assist this poor, unfortunate soul in rescuing the only family he has left in this world? He doesn't have anything to pay you with. Something about his attitude makes you roll your eyes but so long as you don't have to split the bounty four ways you say you'll help. Pleasure doing business with you he says, and you both go to sleep that night confident you won't get attached to the other at all by the time the job's done.
Clock Town! Yuu who used to be picked on for not having any magic by the delinquent gangs only to find themselves in a party with one of the worst of the worst torn between being hurt Deuce doesn't remember making fun of them or impressed with how determined he is to turn his life around vs Deuce who absolutely remembers but has no idea how to appropriately apologize so he just makes it his mission to bring you home from every mission unscathed, even if it's at the cost of his own health. He swears he'll say it eventually, he just needs to find a way to not make an ass of himself by saying something stupid like he loves you.
Farm Kid! Yuu who gets recruited by Ace for his party because he literally can't get anyone other than you and Deuce and ends up being the glue that holds it together. Ace is dumbfounded as he watches you successfully recruit Jack, Epel, Ortho, and even Sebek without much trouble and hates himself for ever thinking about abandoning you as soon as he got better party members. Yuu who knows that's what he wanted to do from the start and resigns themselves to him leaving when Riddle makes his offer only for Ace to stay with Ramshackle Party because he's "too busy looking after them" to be a card soldier, hiding the burns on his hands from when he punched the Arch Mage for insulting you. He can surpass Riddle's party on his own any day.

Yohaji Early Drafts
All the tweets about Tanamai-sensei’s early draft of yohaji, collected into one post and translated!
(Most of the tweets can be found under this twitter search)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
September 25 2015
Sano was originally going to be the human teacher MC instead of Haruaki, Hijita was going to be an actually terrible delinquent.
Also, this seems like a similar scenario to the finalized chapter 1, with Mame doing the steal-and-run instead.
Pic 5 and 6 is captioned "Sano-kun-sensei vs Omame! A fight that wouldn't happen in the actual story!"
Also the guy with glasses in pic 6 would later become Haruaki (or in sensei's words, sailor fetish ahoge guy)
He actually looks like if you combined Haruaki and Hatanaka
I'm not sure if pic 5 and 6 come from the same version of the chapter as 3 and 4, actually.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
December 10 2015
The font changed because I translated that first tweet like 2 months ago, and everything else today lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
July 19 2018
The caption:
1: early draft of beniko with short hair 2: Haruaki was originally going to have to use tools for exorcism, but the idea was dropped. 3 and 4: from the draft when Sano was going to be the MC, doppelganger policeman appears here as a train conductor
I think its a good call, to let Haruaki use his power without any tools. More drama that way lol
He's holding kagura bells on that page, which are said to call gods, and Sano reacts to it, so that's probably already a plot point at that point.
Also, where the hell is this train?? Is it running on the water like in spirited away?? Ok that's pretty cool
Tumblr media
August 30 2020
From that same early draft where Sano is the MC
Renren was also originally going to be just a background character and one of Hijita's delinquent buddies
Also, sensei's computer with all these old draft files got bricked a couple years ago 🥲
Tumblr media
January 14 2020
Early design of Hatanaka (Was he a student???? Is this the draft where Sano is a teacher since he's wearing a tie??? Why is he floating????)
Tumblr media
January 7 2017
"Hatanaka" wasn't a character yet when the first chapter was published in the GFantasy magazine, and was only added in the volume release.
Also, the detail that he's an ex-delinquent and was classmates with Miki was only added in volume 2, so for volume 1 he was just a genuinely serious teacher.
Tumblr media
September 18 2018 (Not translated bc I'm lazy)
"Hatanaka" was actually the MC of one of sensei's early works, who had the same name and looked about the same.
He's actually a super important character to her, since she's drawn like 10 oneshots for contests at that point, and this one where the MC is Hatanaka won her a honorable mention and got her to become a mangaka.
So basically. Hatanaka is sensei's blorbo
Conclusion
So this probably explains why sensei is so fond of the teacher Sano AU for april fools comics (this was the entire point of this post)
I'm glad we live in a world where Haruaki exists and is the MC? Maybe I would also have enjoyed this manga if Sano was the MC, but I'm glad Haruaki exists.
I think we're living in the best possible timeline, there's nothing in these drafts that makes me feel strongly that "I wish it was like that".

Alright so—
Ryuji and the Palace conundrum of personality and why I'm giving every one of the Confidants (and Shiho) a mini-one because actually tackling sins and virtues and flaws just means so much to me personally.
The thing is—as much as I love the Persona 5 crew—I had the same issues that I have with Marco Diaz from Star vs The Forces of Evil (which I also have an AU for) and the fact that they don't have motivations past what the plot needs them to have and the plot needs those motivations to keep them with the Protagonist.
Ryuji needs to be passive but also fun but also loud and abrasive—him having a sense of spite or softer moments can't happen too often because the Phantom Theives need to be Good but not too good. Also I despise the handsy lovable pervert comic relief with a passion.
Only one who's ever gotten a slight pass from me is Denji but even then, he barely counts himself as a human*.
Ryuji once you remove the Protagonist has no later hopes and dreams... Hell, he's barely got a later. The teachers have given up on him, his mom is accidentally negligent and his father was abusive and his few friends aren't talking to him. What does Ryuji want to do? Why does he stay with Phantom Theives? Why's he so loud about it time and time again?
And also why don't we get to see Ann and Ryuji's friendship more??
How I plan to fix this is simple—friendly bancho boy vibes. Or the pinnacle of leap before you look; the Faith Arcana.
He's been labeled a delinquent because he's loyalty has gotten him into some pretty rough crowds with other people who don't belong or just people who take advantage of it.
He's not the Chariot Contract because discipline, commitment and willpower aren't exactly what I think of when Ryuji comes to mind. Instead I think of your ride or die, the main person who wasn't even sure that he was going to get out of the Castle alive but is ready to try and get other people to safety.
Faith is that outstretched hand in the storm and that's Ryuji. Stubbornly faithful, weathering the storms of life. He's the eternal optimist.. Of the Phantom Theives. Thing's will work out and if it doesn't, then oh, well, we'll try something else.
Now then Hope and Faith are things to work on and practice and Ryuji's needs some dusting off. Not to mention there's got to be some major adjustment between not being able to manifest your heart of hearts and suddenly having to hear all those things and thoughts you have buried.
And for Ryuji, I think it's a lot of spite and envy. The things that make you feel small and weak, the things that you try to move past—i.e, the track team.
As for motivations, I think he's a mama's boy through and through and he and Rin bond over their desire to protect and defend as much as Rin and Ann bond over their belief in doing things with your own two hands. He's getting a degree in physical health and medicine and despite the difficulties of being neurospicy in Japanese workforce/schooling, I think that he'd actually be doing surprisingly well.
Struggling because our boy is from the countryside and simple but he's still doing it.
I'd like to touch on alternative teaching methods and have the Theives band together for other things than the world ending.
Also I just really like Ryuji having that sort of sunshine charm where you can't help but want to keep him safe or gravitate towards him. I mentioned bancho-vibes which I honestly see because he seems like the type that enjoys Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and tried to dress like Jotaro Kujo. Until someone called the cops.
I giving him the same level of situational awareness but rather than retreading the same plotline of Ryuji is loud and almost gets them caught, I'm thinking of either having it be why he needs to sit out and eventually develops a Palace or having it actually affect other people. Ryuji does not strike me as an actively malicious person but rather as someone who is careless at times.
His arc is going to be about Rin regaining faith in humanity and Ryuji maintaining his optimism or at least, getting a chance to defend himself.
Ain't no mandatory forgiveness for people doing fuck shit here.
Like I actually refuse to put that in. Kamoshida is dead, Haru gets to punch someone and Ann gets to rip people apart.

I guess I'm just doing this. More yam lore? Or vague yam idea? Not entirely sure how serious this thought is going to be taken but it's fun so here
*I had an interesting thought. What if shauna and yam weren't supposed to be heros? Serena and calem exist in my au, what if they were supposed to be the ones saving the world. Calem is the one who is really into battling. Yam likes battling but it's not her whole thing. She likes preformences and contests just as much, she doesn't really participate in the battle places stuff, she spends her spare time helping a detective and chilling in the pokemon village. Serena left on her journey early to escape her moms expectations of her. If she didnt then she'd be the one fighting team flare. The reason that yam is the one who keeps running into team flare is cuz she sticks around the towns she at, instead of always rushing onwards like calem. If he slowed down a bit, then he'd be fighting team flare more. Serena would have stuck around like yam cuz shes closer friends with shauna and preforms with her. Yam doesn't always win at the beginning, unlike a hero! In fact she loses against lysander!! Calem is the one who takes him down for good. It's only after She's blessed by yveltal that she starts always winning.
Yam is childhood friends with may! Maybe she was supposed to be mays rival as may becomes a hero! But by the time hoenn needs a hero, yam and shuana are already there and hoenn doesn't need a new hero anymore.
What about in alola? What if lillie and hau are supposed to be the heros? Lille has a deep connection to the main evil team in alola, and hau has his own sort of rival in gladion, the edge vs his own happy sunshine. What if hau was the one who was supposed to save lillie and be rescued by tapu koko, it would make sense thanks to his grandfathers connection to it.
Or paldea, what if nemona was supposed to be the hero? She was there when the ridon crashed, is the great battler that heros are expected to be, she has a connection to arven in someway, and she's the student council president so she would be responsible for things like tackling a rumor of delinquents who need to be taken down, she already is a champion ranked trainer
The only one I can't really think of for the later games is galar but The protagonist of swsh isn't someone who moved in, it's a kid who lived their whole life there and grew up with hop, who is definitely hero material.

Continuation of the “what if the Ishimaru scandal didn’t happen” idea because, per usual, @Cat-but-bread brought up good points. How would the change affect the Ishimondo bromance? What if the scandal did happen, just later on in Taka’s life?
Read more because my reply was so long I just decided to make another post.
It would definitely affect the Taka Mondo bromance. Taka is still his usual rule following self, but he isn’t a hall monitor or part of the morals committee. Which means that, while he’s probably kinda bossy INSIDE the classroom (he’s a TOTAL teacher’s pet), he likely isn’t going to be confronting kids anywhere else. Plus, he’s way more laid back about rules in this AU, since it’s not his job to deal with that.
That all means that Mondo and Taka wouldn’t have nearly as many fights, since Taka would have fewer reasons to tell him to behave. And that appears like a good thing for their relationship on surface level. But really, would they have become friends if they hadn’t been constantly at each other's necks?
At face value, Taka and Mondo are wildly different people. Rule follower vs rule breaker, orderly vs chaotic. If these differences didn’t force them to constantly butt heads, would they have ever seen their mutual passion and determination? Likely not. Without that aggression, their relationship would’ve just been lukewarm dislike, with Taka seeing Mondo as just another delinquent, and Mondo seeing him as another egotistical boot licker.
The class gap would also make things a tad harder, since Taka’s freaking rich in this AU. Mondo probably sees him as the “slightly nicer, but way more annoying Togami”
That being said, I can still see these two being friends. But we, again, need to force them together to achieve that, because they wouldn’t interact much otherwise. Since Taka’s the Ultimate Tutor in this au, I can totally see him trying to help Mondo’s grades (probably at the request of a teacher, because there’s no way Mondo asks for help).
Which would be...frustrating for both parties. And I can see that frustration leading to a sauna fight.
As for this AU messing with the parallels between Taka and Mondo...yeah it does. Taka wouldn’t have that same need to prove himself he has in canon since his family name isn’t soiled. He also wouldn’t have faced the same struggles to prove himself as good despite his grandfather
On the contrary, Taka would benefit from his grandfather’s legacy. Even if kids don’t really like him much personally, everyone’s going to be hesitant to be terribly mean to the grandson of the prime minister. People would judge him based on his family, just like in canon. That means people assume Taka’s good and smart because his grandfather is seen as such. Having a good family name can go a long way.
So even if Taka isn’t the smartest, or the most charming, people are going to assume he is. Which could lead to Taka having a bit of an imposter syndrome situation where he feels like he has to live up to the expectations placed onto him. Like he has to pretend to be as smart as his grandfather.
Which...could make up for the broken parallel. Mondo feels like a fraud because he lied about what happened with Daiya, and thus acts hyper masculine to hide that guilt. Perhaps Taka tries to appear smarter than he is and studies constantly to seem like he’s not a disappointment to the Ishimaru name.
And it’s not as if this Taka doesn’t have to work hard. I’m a firm believer that Taka isn’t naturally academically gifted whatsoever. To get into HP as the Ultimate Tutor, he’d still have to do so much studying. So hard work would still be an important part of who he is.
The fact that he doesn’t have the genius grudge would actually work to his disadvantage in this situation, because it means he doesn’t have the same appreciation for hard work. He might look down on himself somewhat for needing to work so hard to understand what comes easily for others.
That feeling only gets worse when you see how wildly successful his grandfather was. How does he live up to that legacy? Especially when he has to work so hard just to be a good student. Perhaps that’s why he became a tutor, because he knows how it feels not to understand things as quickly as others.
Both here and in canon, Taka uses his grandfather as a measure of his own success. In canon, he has to surpass his grandfather without falling into the same corruption he did. “I have to surpass lazy geniuses! I have to prove that I’m moral in all things!”
For this Taka, Toranosuke is something to live up to rather than surpass, because he wouldn’t see the flaws in the man. “I have to live up to the Ishimaru name! I can’t be some blot on our legacy!”
So yeah. I think the change does mess with the Ishimondo parallel, but it makes a different parallel in the process. Both are struggling to live up to the legacy of someone they perceive as much better than them. Both to some degree put on a facade of strength (hyper masculinity and genius respectively) to appear that they live up to those expectations.
Now the idea of the scandal still happening, but happening later is...very interesting. I’d say it happens in HP, which means that Toranosuke Ishimaru is probably retired or getting close to doing so (he died a few years before Taka got into HP in canon, but stress and lack of money for medical assistance probably contributed to that, so he’s still alive and kicking in this situation)
It’s definitely worse for Taka if the scandal happens later. Because here, Toranosuke is a role model, someone to live up to rather than surpass. To learn that someone you’ve looked up to your entire life is a fraud, a liar...that’s a lot.
Canon Taka had the benefit of learning of his grandfather’s treachery earlier on, before the idolization of the man could become a core motivation for his behavior. Along with that, he grew up with the scandal, and thus the infamy of the Ishimaru name.
Tutor Taka would be having his entire world uprooted before him. Suddenly the name Ishimaru is a mark of shame. Suddenly his grandfather isn’t someone to respect, but someone to hate. Suddenly the comforts he was used to, having time to spend with his father, having enough money to do what he wants, is gone.
Taka is not the type of person to handle change easily, so it would be a massive shock to him. And suddenly he’d have to deal with the side eyes of the peers that he likely didn’t call friends, but sure were on friendly terms with. Now people are wondering if he even deserves to be in HP, or if his grandfather bought him his ultimate.
Not to mention that Taka would have to actively deal with the situation, not just the fallout of it. Like the news would be releasing every day on the situation, with everything getting worse each time he turns on the television. Imagine the press hounding him on what's going on, suddenly trying to vilify him because of what is happening with his grandfather. He’s no longer the ‘bright up and coming Ishimaru” but someone who benefited from corruption.
He’d absolutely defend his grandfather. He would refuse to believe that he would do something like that, because Taka always saw him as such a perfect man. But once the evidence becomes irrefutable, when Taka can no longer deny that his grandfather’s corrupt...I can see him clamming up like he did after trial 2 for a while. In both situations, his perception of someone close to him was ruthlessly forced to change.
It’s a bad time all in all. Taka would be losing so many support systems at once. The general trust of the school population, his idolization of his grandfather, his father’s ability to regularly spend time with him. Suddenly people don’t trust him as much, he’s constantly being hounded by reporters.

Who are the unlikely pairs that surprisingly work well together? Oh and how are you? :)
Hi! I’m kinda sad rn haha :’) I don’t really know why, I think I’m just overwhelmed bc of university applying stuff. Like it’s taken over my life hahaha but I’ll be fine eventually ✌️ Hope you’re doing well! <3
Oh!! Karma x Terasaka for sure! They’re one of my fav pairings in all of AssClass. I know it seems so unlikely and kind of meme-y lmao, but really I believe they work.
This is one of the rare dynamics in which there isn’t a power imbalance on Karma’s part. I like some of this other ships ofc, but we know Terasaka doesn’t hesitate to stand up against him or call him out. They’re on equal footing. And I appreciate that a lot, I think Karma needs someone like that.
Also Terasaka is so easy to read, that’s why their dynamic is important to Karma even in canon! He just has simple honestly and loyalty to give. Likewise Terasaka definitely respects and trusts Karma soooooo 😗 if you don’t ship this, what are you waiting for? /j
Nakamura x Kanzaki is another one that I ADORE. They’re the rebel girlfriends who plan on destroying the world together. Seriously, their stories are...very similar. And I hc them both to like girls so 🤷‍♀️
Even if you wanna stick by Kanzaki’s canon characterization, there’s still so much potential. Nakamura would definitely find her whole double identity and gamer girl persona to be super interesting, and we all know she loves interesting people~
Next. This is a VERY rare pair but Okano x Muramatsu is one that I’ve thought about before. I even started a piece about them for rarepairweek. Idk why but I’m very interested in their canon dynamic and all the potential!
They remind me so much of the main pairing in Toradora haha. A tall lanky soft boy who seems like a delinquent but is kind, and has a passion for cooking. A short tiny tsundere girl who has her walls up but she’s super loyal and loving.
I just think they’d be really funny together. Their one canon interaction is him correcting her on a meal manner. Food snob!Muramatsu vs Feral!Okano.
Hhhhhhhhh.
I’ve been afraid to say it, but why don’t we talk more about Gakushuu x Takebayashi.....they have a pretty significant dynamic in canon.
And I lowkey could see it work. Takebayashi, although still learning himself, could help Shuu fill in the gaps of his humanity.
They’d have such a funny relationship omg. Imagine an office!AU where Takebayashi is just vibing and working, while Shuu is getting more and more jealous of how he’s a better leader and getting more opportunities (like canon). But along the way he realizes “no dude you don’t view him as a rival anymore, you’re getting feelings for him now” to his horror. And Takebayashi is like aware of his own feelings for him, but doesn’t act on them bc it’s unlikely they’re returned. And he is blissfully unaware of Gakushuu’s internal crisis.
Anyways imagine them being together and watching anime, and Gakushuu takes it so much more seriously than he should and it’s hilarious.

Two new verses I'm thinking of adding:
Danganronpa AU: I can so easily add Law to that world. Being the Ultimate Surgeon is perfect for him and he’s already got some great hope vs. despair traits in him. Plus, I kinda wanna write with my Danganronpa peeps again.
Modern AU: But I'm not sure if I wanna just go with stressed out young surgeon or make it more of a delinquent/modern crime au because I'm more interested in that than just general slice of life stuff.

noblesse oblige (sasusaku) - chapter 01
Summary: A modern medical resident travels to an alternate world to stop a prince from massacring his own family. Political intrigue, magic, and romance ensue. Royalty vs Aristocracy / Medieval AU. SasuSaku. Multi-chapter.
Note: Isekai ("other world") stories seem to be all the craze in webcomics these days, and SasuSaku is the perfect couple to inject into that madness. Welcome to a world of political intrigue, a sprinkle of magic, and sweet, sweet romance - where Sakura's a spunky modern heroine, and Sasuke's well, Sasuke.
Below is an excerpt from the first chapter; you can view it in full on FFN here:
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13558790/1/noblesse-oblige
.
Chapter 01: good morning, good morning
.
For as long as she could remember, Sakura Haruno wanted to be a writer in a big city. Between schoolwork and internships, labs and shifts, she'd jot down small notes on her phone about the people around her, and hoped that enough notes would culminate into a book.
The old lady with a young face who yelled at her for jaywalking. The black cat that'd followed her back home. The old man who refused treatment because he thought her pink hair meant that she was a delinquent...
Sakura yawned. It was midnight, and she'd barely gotten any sleep. Rising from her bunk bed, she turned on the light of the on-call room. The front desk had paged her about an incoming ambulance.
As a medical resident in an aging town in rural Japan, she was neither of her dreams. Despite breaking gender barriers by pursuing medicine, her outspoken nature while in medical school had gotten her placed in the countryside.
Sometimes Sakura dreamed that she still had a choice: that any day, she could choose to leave this life as a rural resident, and move back to Tokyo to be an author.
But then her pager would ring, and she'd go back to work.
.
.
.
It was dawn when Sakura walked out of the hospital. Tired, Sakura wanted to take a bath and a long sleep.
The sun barely lighting the air around her, she pulled out a novel from her bookbag. With yellowed pages, the book was breaking at its seams.
It was a habit: to finish reading a novel a week and to read during the twenty-minute walks back home. Today's book was from the local library, a book whose cover she was inexplicably drawn to. A shy young heroine awakens an inherited power, a power which allows her to purify a young man filled with hate...
Or so the back cover said.
It was darker than she'd expected: that young man's entire clan was slaughtered by his own older brother, and it was that trauma that turned him insane. Therapy would've probably helped, thought Sakura, and this heroine's magic would've been unnecessary.
Barely into the story, Sakura turned a page. In her periphery, she saw a black cat step onto the road. He maintained a few feet behind Sakura but was clearly following her.
Sakura smiled at the familiar shadow. On a walk home two weeks ago, the cat had appeared and walked her all the way to her house. When she'd asked her neighbors if they had any cats missing, they all replied that they'd never seen any cats in town before. She did consider taking him home, but whenever she broke the distance between them, his ears would downturn and he'd leap away.
Turning another page, she heard the distant sound of car wheels on gravel and was about to take a step to her right when she heard the screech of a cat. She turned around.
The car was closer than she'd heard. It was about to hit the cat!
Dropping her belongings, she leaped forward and used her body to push the cat to the other side of the street.
Already faint from exhaustion, she remained collapsed on the road, the black cat smothered in her arms. She could hear a woman's scream, the sound of tires screeching, and the slam of a car door.
"Ma'am, are you OK? Are you OK? Oh my God…!"
Her eyes could barely stay open. But Sakura felt a paw touch her cheek and glimpsed a tear running through the cat's fur. She wondered at how bright the cat's eyes were, and how sad they seemed.
I just...wanted to take a nap...
.
.
.
Sakura screamed and opened her eyes.

You know how Bill Burnett said that how had ChalkZone been able to continue, Skrawl would have teamed up with a human who had chalked up after staying in ChalkZone and partying too hard and wanted back in when he got banished? Well, this is my take on that sort of character. Enter Natalie Blake, the new kid from England, and one of the catalysts for Rudy and Penny’s transformation into Zoners in the Chalked Up AU.
12-year-old Natalie had just moved into Plainville from her hometown of Windsor, with Principal Stingret telling the students that she was going to be joining them in the next grade following their Summer Break and asking who would like to show her around the school, as well as Plainville as a whole, and Rudy volunteered to be her guide for the summer, much to Penny’s chagrin and, once he learned about her, Snap’s dismay. As the last couple weeks of school progressed, Rudy was showing Natalie as much of his hometown as possible, all the while the two started to know each other more and more to the point that Rudy was actually starting to fall for her. However, unbeknownst to him, Natalie was actually working with Skrawl on a diabolical scheme that would ensure that he would no longer be a threat and they would become the supreme rulers of ChalkZone.
On the last day of school and the eve of Penny’s 11th birthday*, Skrawl kidnapped Penny and Snap during their trip to Arcadatropolopia and took them to his ChalKano lair where they discovered very much to their shock that Natalie was in cahoots with Skrawl the whole time, and they explained that their plan was to keep Rudy in ChalkZone until he chalked up and turned into a Zoner, ensuring their dominance over the world. Once Rudy escaped the addictiveness of Arcadatropolopia (a lot later than he should have, mind you), he rushed over to Skrawl’s lair back home to rescue his friends, only to discover the truth for himself and get roped into an artist vs. artist battle with Natalie while Skrawl supported her with methods that gave her a rather unfair advantage, though not before drawing his friends a polar-parachute so they could safely escape. Unfortunately, Rudy was on the losing end of the fight and even started to lose his chalk-drawing ability, and Natalie was ready to deliver the winning blow... until Snap pressed the self-destruct button he took from behind the Beanie Boys’ back and the ChalKano exploded.
Everyone survived, luckily, but while Natalie was wounded by the explosion and Rudy managed to save her from certain death, allowing Snap to let out a sigh of relief that he didn’t accidentally kill his creator and best friend, Skrawl and the Beanie Boys managed to escape while also being pursued by a singing mantis. However, as you may have guessed, their time was up, and Rudy and Penny found themselves chalking up and being turned into Zoners, now unable to return to the Real World.
While the two were stuck in ChalkZone, though, Natalie was brought back to her home through the portal she’d drawn that morning, and when she woke up a few minute after being returned home she found that not only had her portal been erased, but her magic chalk was no longer within her possession. She was effectively banished from ChalkZone forever. However, she wasn’t going to take this sitting down. She vowed to herself that she was going to get back in someday, and now with Rudy and Penny stuck as Zoners, she was certain no one would be able to oppose her.
As you can see, the character of Natalie was partially inspired by @novastarlyght‘s version of Rudy’s creator rival, Kari McFey, as they were both female and teamed with Skrawl to execute a plan that would leave Rudy (and by extension here, Penny) unable to oppose their reign of terror over ChalkZone. However, there are a few key differences between them:
1. Kari seemed to be a delinquent punk even before she found out about ChalkZone, whereas Natalie was actually quite a sweet child, and remained so even when she learned about its existence until Skrawl found her and started to corrupt her mind, promising her a seat by his side as co-ruler of ChalkZone provided she help him defeat Rudy Tabootie once and for all.
2. Kari found out about the process of “chalking up” when she got her right arm turned into chalk before she managed to get out of there just in time, while Skrawl (who had learned about it first) told Natalie that if she stayed for more than 24 hours straight, this would happen to her and she’d never be able to see her loved ones in the Real World again.
And 3. Where Kari’s scheme to chalk Rudy up by keeping him trapped in ChalkZone obviously failed but she was still able to travel from the Real World to ChalkZone and back, here, Natalie’s plan actually succeeded, and Rudy and Penny were now trapped as Zoners for the rest of their lives; unfortunately for Natalie, while she was spared the same fate due to only being there for 10 hours, she was now stuck in the Real World with no means of getting back into ChalkZone and no way to affect anything in that world aside from drawing something into existence via chalkboard.
But keep in mind, while Natalie is a little more moral than Kari, she is also just as dangerous, especially when you consider that she can erase something into ChalkZone and now Rudy, Penny and Snap have no way of getting into the Real World and stopping her there. And that’s not even mentioning how she later teams up with Terry Bouffant and Vinnie Raton to try to find some magic chalk in the Real World and can still communicate with Skrawl through her Chalkie Walkie Talkie.
So, yeah, that’s my rival creator OC for my AU. Hope you like her and excuse the crudeness of the image.
*And yes, by the way, I AM confirming with that sentence that the fateful day happened on Penny’s birthday, meaning that in this AU, the two were 11 (Rudy had turned 11 a few months ago here) when they chalked up and are now stuck at that age for eternity.

Long list of various Team Rocket headcanons
Recently I had a really nice talk with @masterstarpikachu about Rocketshipping/general Team Rocket stuff, and some of the headcanons that were brought up are just too good not to be shared with the world so I have compiled them into a big post
Warning: Some small nsfw elements at the very beginning of this, please beware if you don’t like that kinda thing! Nothing explicit but like the evil word s*x is mentioned once so shield yo eyes kiddos
Contents of this post include:
- Controversy about the see-through level of Pokéballs - Meowth and the Pokémon shittalking humans behind their backs - Meowth and Jessie tease James about literally everything - Meowth is a supportive friend in the most asshole-y way possible - Jessie actually being nice for once - Food - Hot take but Jessebelle is a yandere - Jessie almost dies but it's okay because the ship happens
Actual list under the cut because this good content here got long
- Starting topic that triggered this entire conversation: - Jessie and James are about to get intimate, but just in that moment - *Pokéball release sound* “WOOOOBBUFFET” - So that raised an important question: - How much exactly are Pokémon able to see out of their Pokéballs? - Because most of the time when they’re called out mid-battle they immediately charge in without hesitating, so it seems like they know what’s been going on - Larvitar was able to see out of its egg shell too which suggests similar things for Pokéballs - Trainers, do not leave your Pokéballs in the same room you do private stuff in
- What if that’s how Meowth finds out Jessie and James are a thing - “Meowth, how did you know? What do you mean Seviper told you?? How did Seviper know???” - “…..oh my god” - Mime Jr was too young to see that - James will never live it down - He’s too ashamed to look his son in the eyes ever again - Probably needs to sit him down to have *the talk* and it’s the most shameful thing he’s ever had to do - Does Mime Jr even understand what he’s saying? Does it care about what humans do? Probably not, but Meowth won’t think it’s necessary to point that out
- I like the idea of Meowth sharing gossip with the other Pokémon in general - He’s barely seen talking to Pokémon, which is honestly a waste if you ask me? It’s like the writers forgot that bilingual people don’t actually forget their mother tongue - Imagine Meowth and the other Pokémon just complaining about the dumb shit the humans do - Besides, let him have some friends he won’t be the third wheel to lmao
- Literally tho, imagine all their Pokémon had seen their masters, ahem.. “blast off” - Poor souls didn’t know Pokéballs were see-through from the inside - Jessie would pretend not to care, she’s above that. There’s no reason at all to be ashamed. But she’d be blushing so hard she wouldn’t fool anyone. - Shit’s awkward no matter how tough you are - James wouldn’t even try to pretend, James would straight up die - RIP James
- On another note - James totally makes those little high pitched squeaky sounds during sex and you cannot change my mind it’s canon - You know exactly what I mean - There’s literally no way he doesn’t - He’s tryna be all sexy and smooth and stuff but then Jessie starts touching him or something and he just SQUEAKS - Secretly she finds it kinda hot in a weird way but she’d never admit it - Pretends it’s a coincidence that she’ll keep trying to get him to make more of those sounds - Meanwhile Meowth outside the door is like “what the actual fuck James” - “Jimmy’s such a weird one” - He’d tease James to no end about it - Meowth embarrassing James about details of stuff he shouldn’t even know about is my new favorite thing - Also Jessie trying to stop him but also holding back laughter because “well he’s not wrong” - “WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON?!” - C’mon she can’t turn down an opportunity to tease him - James is then all embarrassed and lowkey offended and gives her the silent treatment - He refuses to talk to her ever again - Aka for like the next half hour or so - Eventually she’d probably apologize though because even she isn’t THAT mean - At least not when it comes to James - Not always - Maybe - She gets soft around him when nobody’s around to see it - Sometimes - And maybe he’d forgive her if she did those things again...
- Jessie being soft with James is my absolute weakness though - Especially since they’ve been friends for so long and he knows full well that nobody else is allowed to see that side of her ever - It’d definitely make him feel special and loved - Imagine Jessie letting her guard down and being kind to James for no reason other than because she genuinely wants him to be happy - I am weak - Even if it’s just little things - Especially those tbh - Just trying to cheer him up when he’s down instead of simply telling him to get over it - Saving a nice bottlecap she found even though she never understood that hobby of his - Just saving it for him because maybe he’d want it - He’d be so touched - Probably would make his entire week - He’d save that one bottlecap forever - Even if it’s not one of the kind he collects, or a duplicate or sth - It’d be his most prized possession
- Something I really want to happen is them sharing their food properly, because you know that for those two that’d be a HUGE sign of affection - The anime may pretend they share everything equally (they say so in an episode) but honestly 90% of the time they get in literal fights over the last scrap - So one of them happily sharing could even be the first step of them realizing their feelings - Like, maybe James would let Jessie eat his portion - She’d definitely take longer than him to show any signs of affection - And she just - “Why’d you let me have it is something wrong with you?” - “No…it’s just…you seem really hungry” - When he offers her the food, instead of immediately devouring it like she usually would she just - Stops and doubles back - Stares at the food in his hands, then at him, back at the food - “Are you serious?” - In that moment he realized what he’s done and gets all defensive - “Just eat it, Jess!” - “I’m just not that hungry, okay?” (*stomach growling noise*) - Then they are interrupted by Meowth - “What about me? I’m starvin’!” - In the end they just split it in three parts because sharing with them both is a bit less awkward to explain
- Also - In the beginning when they start falling for each other, Meowth would be oblivious by choice - As in he sees the signs but he ignores them because “nahhh no way” - Then when he figures it out he mercilessly teases James about having a crush on Jess every chance he gets - Though he’d do it without her hearing about it, because he isn’t THAT mean to him - But when they actually start dating he realizes he was a FOOL and now he has to deal with that forever - Like - He probably gave James advice out of pity - (James totally confides in him at some point because he just needs to talk to SOMEONE) - But then Jessie went for it and he realizes too late what that means for him - Now he needs to live with the consequences
- Meowth giving James love advice about Jessie though - That sounds like a huge train wreck - I mean he may tease him to no end but they’re still best friends so he’d still try to help when he realizes James is serious - “That dumbass really got it bad huh” - Deep down he does care for his friends after all - He’s like permanently done with James’ shit but he still keeps his secret - Although he can and will use his newly gained knowledge as blackmail whenever he wants something from him - And at the same time half of his “advice” consists of “lol Jessie’s gonna kill you” - “YOU’RE NOT HELPING MEOWTH” - James is already well aware of that - That’s his problem - He’s been faced with the full extent of Jessie’s wrath before - He knows better than to risk getting on her bad side
- On the other hand, it’s canon that when Jessie falls for someone she tends to actually act friendly and kind around them to some degree - Which I’m assuming is an instinctive reaction because she doesn’t want to scare them off - But falling for James would be weird since it’d trigger her instinct to be soft and good but at the same time - “No that’s James wtf” - She’s been treating him full force nasty for years and so far he hasn’t left so there’s really no need - Honestly James tends to get freaked out whenever she’s calm because a nice Jessie is just WRONG - Pure boy got so used to her mean antics he gets worried about her when she’s friendly to him - As a result, before admitting her feelings even to herself, Jessie would instead get MORE mean out of defiance - That darn Tsundere smh - She cares a lot about him but she cannot show weakness her mind won’t allow it - Nope - Fight me, feelings
- Vs Jessebelle, who is a Yandere and should be feared - And should also be decked in the face by Jessie tyvm - Imagine an actual Yandere Jessebelle tho - Nightmare fuel - I mean that whip scene was already terrifying - She broke a fucking dresser with the hit that was aimed at James - I know it was exaggerated cartoon violence but like she almost straight up murdered him - And his parents are okay with that?? - Because he’s too delinquent for her - So he can just die apparently - Now imagine her getting obsessed with him to the point of actively following him around to get him to marry her - And trying to get Jessie out of the way to get him back - Can I just say Horror AU right there - I’m an angst writer don’t test me - I like to take dark stuff and make it WORSE - Picture this - James coming back from a short trip to gather firewood or sth like that, only to find Jessie unconscious and bleeding from a stab wound - :) - Maybe Jessebelle is still standing there and laughing because she finally won - Of course she’ll survive but just BARELY - They’re in the middle of nowhere and James frantically tries to find someone to help her but they’re all alone - I mean after all that blasting off they probably know some basic first aid at least - He could stop the bleeding and then take her to a hospital with the hot air balloon - Cue that good ol’ “refusing to leave her bedside until she wakes up” cliché thing - But also imagine Jessie waking up in the hospital with James asleep next to her - Maybe even subconsciously holding her hand in his sleep - Because he was too worried about her and was probably talking to her before he ended up passing out from exhaustion

Season 6 Plot Big Giant Spec Post
A - Major pieces I’m spec’ing for next season when I am feeling semi-confident on spec:
Nightblood is only needed for when BOTH suns are up.
Clarke will come to view the leader of the peaceful group they meet as a father figure.
“Our People” (Eligius, Delinquents, etc) will be sent on a mission to go mine hytholodium from a nearby asteroid. That hytholodium will be brought back and will power up something important for the finale.
Colonization of the new planet was originally modeled after how England initially settled the New World.
That plan went up in smoke when it was revealed the Earth had gone up in smoke and no subsequent waves of colonizers arrived.
B - Major pieces I am spec’ing that I am low-confident about:
Over the ~200 years that passed since those initial events, the planet split into two major factions: those with nightblood, and those without.
Nightbloods may be the subjugated class on this new planet.
The arrival of our people (Grounders, Eligius, Skykru, etc) will throw the current nightblood v. non-nightblood power balance into flux when it is revealed that the religion that evolved on Earth is one where nightbloods are revered.
It will become important for the oppressing class to figure out how to control The Flame.
C - Wilder pieces I am spec’ing:
If the non-nightbloods are the oppressing class, they will power up their version of ALIE in the finale.
OR, if the non-nightbloods are the oppressing class, we will get the AU where the “Mountain Men” got to return to Earth in the finale.
D - I am personally motivated to spec this, but also I got real reasons
“Unintended Consequences” (or something similar in Trig) will be the name of the Finale
Explanations for why I am spec’ing these things are under the cut, but can majorly be summarized as 1) I read The Sparrow, and 2) assumption that the EligiusIV twitter account is a valid source.
Warning: contains major spoilers for “The Sparrow”
A1 - This is implied through the BTS pictures we have of Clarke and Echo on the ground, the fact that “two suns, no sunscreen” was uttered by Shaw, and that in “The Sparrow” there is a species that sleeps through the time of day where only one sun is up.
A2 -  “Clarke is in a really bad place right now” that Eliza has been saying in interviews, I strongly suspect she is having a similar story to the main character of The Sparrow. In the Sparrow the main character comes to view one of the aliens they meet as a daughter-figure. Clarke already has a daughter-figure (Madi), but Clarke has been missing a father figure for a while now. Plus Jake Griffin was back on set which supports this theory.
A3 - The BTS pictures that came out recently showed our cast on an Eligius vessel which describes a asteroid in the background that had a high amount of hytholodium. A while back there was a summary chart of the fake titles the writers had given to next season’s episodes - including two called “7 days part 1″ and “7 days part 2″ - with a gap in the middle. I strongly believe at minimum a subsection of our known characters will get sent on a mining mission.
A4 and A5 - I’m spec’ing this primarily on how “space colonization” has been stressed in the Eligius IV promo materials.
To clarify what I am talking about when I say “how England settled the New World” - I specifically am speaking to very early days colonialism (before the American Revolution) when lands were initially being taken away from the First Nations who lived there as England expanded. This is where England would have a white colonizer over there with a plot of land they were setting up for their way of life, and contracts would be made where other white colonizers would become “indentured servants” where they would have a contract drawn up where they got X amount of clothes per year, meals, a place to live, and at the end of 10 years or so of work would be given their own piece of property. Then they would become the lead of their own piece of property - and could coordinate a contract where they get their own indentured servants, and so the cycle repeats.
The destruction of Earth would have resulted in - to put it mildly - some contract disputes for those who were expecting subsequent waves of people to come to help them set up their own properties. This would set off major conflict among those who settled the new planet.
Particularly a new tweet from EligiusIV specifically mentions “there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves”.
B1-4 - I put these all in a “low-confidence” category because I am uncertain what this “alien” life is and how important it is. My spec is based on a premise that the Alien life is either 1) not really important, or 2) a cute way to say that “we’ve evolved so separately it’s like they are alien to us”. If alien life is a real thing, then a lot of my spec will likely be hogwash.
B1 - I am spec’ing this because it’s a redux of the Mountain Men vs Grounders, and also because a similar divide is found in The Sparrow. I am also spec’ing this because we know that redblooded people can give birth to people with nightblood. I have assumed that people with nightblood can give birth to people with redblood because otherwise the 100 year evolution that allowed people to reclaim the ground makes no sense. However we don’t really have proof of this thanks to the conclave, and the science/math on this show can be dubious anyways. It’s also another way to divide Clarke from her people which Jason loves to do.
B2 and B3 - This would be a reverse of how the religion on Earth evolved, which would naturally cause conflict, which is part of why I am spec’ing this.
I am also spec’ing this because
only the nightbloods would be able to be outside during the day - raising cause for why they are obligated to be the workers
it puts Clarke in the worker class (”let the privileged do the work for a change”)
it implies that that once the redblooded people started to be born that instead of casting them out for being genetically inferior, that work was done initially to protect them. We know Murphy and Clarke are going to be at odds this season, and that them being at odds could in some ways present a different look at “protecting the weak” vs. “taking advantage of the strong” because of how Murphy is tied to Emori who got cast out for being different, and Clarke being tied to this subjugated class. (I hope I explained this properly, since this is a very messy and complicated idea).
The fact that people with redblood worship someone with nightblood would be seen as radical and cause major issue on the new planet.
An easy way to temporarily placate the masses would be to say that Madi is only raised up as a nightblood because she has The Flame.
B4 - Irrespective of who the subjugated class is, the fact of the matter remains that a group of people led by a child soldier have landed on this planet and the reason she is raised above others is because she has a chip in her neck. The BTS pictures on the Eligius ship seemed to me to include an electronic schematic of The Flame - which to me begs the question of if they will try to reverse program The Flame this season (or something similar).
I am also low confidence on this one because another thing that could be happening here is that this chip wasn’t meant to last 200 years - and that it is starting to decay in Madi’s head after 125 in cryo, and needs to be repaired.
Or maybe it’s both things!
C1 - Putting this in the “wild” category for a few reasons. However I will say my primary reason for spec’ing this is because ALIE can relieve pain - and I have to wonder whether she can relieve the pain caused by solar radiation. To me the cascading events here are 1- redblood people can’t access their own mining ship or simply don’t have mining ship, 2- they get Our People to go mine the asteroid, and 3 - they turn on their version of the ALIE1.0 machine in the finale. This presumes the ALIE code was ever sent to these people in the first place. However it is possible it could be retconned that ALIE1.0 was developed as a permanent solution to the “nightbloods don’t always give birth to redbloods” problem - if that indeed was a problem. Also - with the trauma that was caused in the 6 year stay in the bunker, Abby’s addiction being stressed as a longing for the City of Light, and the fact that our main characters are almost evenly divided between those who did and didn’t go to the City of Light - I think the return of ALIE1.0 wouldn’t be so easily defeated.
C2 - Alternatively, it may be that Abby and Jackson are leveraged because they know (although may be a bit rusty about) the recipe for creating nightblood. They may spend the season recreating that recipe with the scientists on the ground. We did see a BTS picture (that got deleted) where the guy who played Robin Hood on OUAT was in a medical smock and had bits of black on that smock - which may be nightblood.
Either way for part C - I am anticipating these new “Mountain Men” to find a way to the ground in the finale.
D1 -  Jason has spoken about how Clarke really takes to heart Monty’s message of “be the good guys”. It would follow the plot of The Sparrow, as well as simply fit into the type of show this is, to have Clarke try her hardest to “be the good guy” and then end up “being the bad guy” due to unintended consequences.

Note
Please imagine me just delivering these on a platter to ur sickbed: akira, minako, ochako, iida, (tries to think of a marvel comic person) uhh flash
thank you, thank you. who needs cough medicine when you have shipping.
(edit: i’m 99% healthy. it took me that long to finish this mess.)
AKIRA: okay, i think i remember telling you how i was pretty chill with akira ships. like, if done right, i don’t mind any of them, except for futaba (because they’re siblings, fu). besides our collective issues with atlus and their inability to not be weird when it comes to the girls. also, i feel like what makes the p5 kids feel the most like actual friends is also what makes it harder for me to fully invest in any individual dynamic - they all meet throughout the course of the game (even ann and ryuji aren’t close friends beforehand, and there’s definitely no drama between them) and they help each other heal and get past their abusers so that they can have a fresh start and feel free to be normal teenagers. so there’s little to actually grab onto when searching for….anything layered? like, compared to the p3 kids who have so much inner turmoil that they take out on each other - or the p4 kids, who can’t be completely truthful to themselves or each other. the p5 kids do have baggage, but not with each other. which makes for healthier bonds but also more boring ship dynamics lmao. all very cute and fluffy, but not a lot of substance.
point is, i don’t really have much to say? like akira/yusuke is fun and silly. akira is eccentric and cool enough to go along with yusuke’s antics, and even though p5 always gives us an option to be mean, i can’t imagine akira ACTUALLY thinking that kind of stuff? like, he’s a weirdo too so he just. gets it. yusuke basically takes akira out on dates during his social link. they lend themselves well to model/artist headcanons and aus. they don’t realize they’re dating until a few months into their relationship - one of the others had to point it out and yusuke’s like ‘oh? is that what this is??’ and akira’s like ‘thank god’ bc he was too awkward to bring it up himself. futaba makes fun of them a lot.
akira and ryuji are cute too. i’ve gotten a bit fond of the boner squad (br)ot3 too. just ann/ryuji/akira being dumbasses. or ann/shiho+ryuji/akira being dumbasses while going on double dates. there’s also not really much to it - just the usual persona teen boy ‘no-homo-bromo-but-it’s-actually-homo’ fare. ryuji’s less possessive and repressed about it than yosuke is, though. which is good (ie more healthy) bc it’s more like akira found himself a human puppy jock boyfriend, and it’s cute! ryuji instantly decided he liked akira and started planning their secret handshake and selecting their cool delinquent hangout spot. and akira just smiles through it all bc he’s charmed. morgana gives akira the most judgemental stare ever when he finds out though.
i like akira/haru bc she’s who i dated in my playthrough. they’re soft and sweet and i think a slow relationship built on patience is good for both of them. and they have the most obvious phantom thief couple aesthetic, tbh. they also have the ‘demure wallflower by day, trigger-happy hellion by night’ thing going on. i love the idea of them opening up a coffee place together (their futures align! this is the SO that sojiro approves the fastest lbr!) and akira being haru’s trophy husband (let this man be someone’s trophy husband).
akira/goro’s the one with the most depth lmao as our boy akechi gets the short end of the stick re: what everyone else got - to defeat their abuser and come out the other side a new and improved person. INSTEAD, it’s all about deep-rooted envy and what-ifs. when i replayed p5 for my friend’s benefit, she kept being like ‘wow ok akechi’s got….the most obvious crush on mc. why is he always here? why does he talk like that? omg?’ and my sentiments exactly. AKIRA’S thoughts exactly, tbh, bc what else is he supposed to get out of some of the things that come out of goro’s mouth. but it’s like….he DOES like akira, but he also resents his existence because akira gets to have real bonds and happiness despite the crappy hand dealt to him. and their own bond is based on careful lies and observing each other for any cracks in their armour. but there’s that undertone of wishing that they’d met in other circumstances, where they COULD have a normal relationship and get to know each other in a way that’s not ‘we levelled up our relationship when you shot me in the face with the intent of murdering me and framing me for my own death but really, i tricked you and you didn’t actually kill me & now we can defeat you and your dad! ha! checkmate!!’ but i love that that’s actually part of the dynamic so lmao.
MINAKO: you know, despite minako and minato being considerably different (both their external personality/appearances > emo boy/preppy girl  - and the changes in their dialogue choices > again, minako is a lot more confrontational and energetic), i pretty much just ship them with the same people?
the only exceptions of this being i ship minako with shinjiro and yukari but can’t really fathom either of them with minato. (it’s bc yukari is a lesbian and shinji does not deal well with sullen people. like, what’s he supposed to do? pat minato on the back?)
i will also warn that it’s been….forever since p3 so i’m kinda fuzzy on details.
anywhoooooo, AIGIS. main protag ship is aigis. idc which protag, but i must give atlus my once-in-a-blue-moon compliment because they kept aigis’ social link and her blatantly romantic feelings for the protag the exact same in portable. so minako/aigis is just as canon as minato/aigis, buahaha. anyway. robot girlfriend who starts off being somehow programmed to feel protective/indebted to minako but then starts developing real genuine feelings as she explores her humanity, minako wanting to show aigis how to enjoy herself while putting the emphasis on aigis’ feelings and opinions but also being so amazed and grateful for aigis’ love and attention. also, the difference between protags here being that while minato is silently intimate, minako is loudly loving. the utter tragedy that is aigis not being able to save the person she cares about, the imagery of minako’s head in her lap while they wait for the end is….A Lot. i think in a lot of tragic robot/human romance fiction, the robot gives up its life for their human partner so i like the reverse here - with aigis having to experience the emotions of loss and depression and overcoming that because she truly loved mina(k/t)o and now they’re gone. it’s heavy! it’s a lot! i just remembered i never finished the p3 movies! i should do that!
there’s ryouji. again, don’t care which protag - just like the idea of our mc flirting with death. literally flirting with the avatar of death. the double sides of the ship: goofy teenage flirting vs warning of impending doom. ryouji just being like ‘yeah just kill me it’s for the best i’m actually here to destroy the world or w/e’ to his gf (or bf) out of nowhere on christmas eve lmao. it’s fun, idk.
yukari! honestly, taking out all the forced hetero ship teasing made me ship her with minako more lmao their social link was just better! no offense! and their personalities mesh better too - i feel like yukari would get way too frustrated with a closed-off partner and i love concept of: the huffy takes-no-shits girl being soft for her cheerful outgoing gf. also, i spent way too long imagining the answer with minako - the aigis/minako/yukari would be heartwrenching and we deserve it.
shinjiro! can i start off by saying it’s a good thing shinji was in p3, which did the best job of showing the characters apart from the protagonist and main plot (prob bc on the other hand, it did the worst job with social links seeing as none of the guys had them) - i feel like in p4 or p5, we wouldn’t have gotten to know him nearly as well before he died. anyway, his social link with minako is really sweet and a romance between them hits my ‘tsundere/flustered boy not knowing how to deal with affection from pretty girl he respects a lot’ checkpoints. and i need to talk about this: i feel like the decision to make him comatose instead of dead if you romance him was a double edged sword disguised as a blessing lol. because he was still DYING before he got shot, and also he wakes up just in time to find out his girlfriend died! fhdhfgdjd!
                      —————————————————————–
uraraka……okay: i ship her with tsuyu, bakugou, iida, mina and toga.
oh, here’s a story. before i got into bnha, i stumbled on a bunch of deku/uraraka amvs and they were so precious. like, really, deku and ochako are the cutest goddamn things in this series. seeing them side by side makes me want to channel my inner grandmother and pinch their cheeks. it was, like, the only thing i knew about bnha at first, so i just figured i’d end up shipping it whenever i eventually got to watching it bc i’m easy to please like that. but ha. nah. it’s sad bc i love their dynamic when it’s focusing on their actual friendship but then the actual romantic hints made me want to roll my eyes so hard. it’s so BORING if you take it at face-value, and i’m so boggled by it if you look deeper bc i don’t understand what hori’s planning here. it’s irritating bc even uraraka admits that her borderline obsession (and that’s what it is, since it’s compared to TOGA’S CRUSHES…y’know, our resident yandere serial killer?) is detrimental to her growth as a hero. and i know it’s partially bc she’s a teenager but its blown so out of proportion. it’s a crush!! relax!!! like, compare to deku’s crush on uraraka where after he got over his initial anxiety of talking to girls, he - at most - just blushes a little when she stands too close or dresses extra-cute. every other time, he treats her no differently than any of his other friends. but then uraraka’s crush is treated like. this weirdly twisted admiration she doesn’t even WANT. she relates to a villain’s desire to imitate and become the person they like, she gets ridiculously jealous every time he looks at another girl, she keeps fucking up because she focuses too much on him and how to be like him. it’s weird. idk. typical fiction tropes lead me to believe i’m supposed to root for them to get together (and bnha will end with an epilogue where they have a child named after a food) but the story i’m being told makes me want to root for uraraka to succeed at getting over those feelings! idfk!!!
also, i have to laugh at the way horikoshi decided to tell us and uraraka herself that these feelings were romantic. by having aoyama just be like ‘oh you were thinking what would izuku midoriya do? could it be you love him?’ when we see multiple male friends of deku’s (iida and todo, in particular - hell, even aoyama himself) have similar WWMD thoughts and he, in turn, instantly imitates bakugou whenever he hits a roadblock (taking inspiration from to downright copying bakugou’s moves, trash talking his opponents, etc). am i supposed to see only uraraka’s feelings as romantic? why? because she’s a girl and deku’s a guy?
i like it better when iida’s involved. both iida and uraraka are so sweet and enthusiastic to counter deku’s more nervous personality, and they’re a very good trio! i tend to prefer them as a brot3 but as i said, i do ship iida/uraraka seperately! i don’t have any big reasons for it except i enjoy how contagiously energetic and silly they are around each other? dramatic too - remember the ‘REACH FOR MY HAND’ scene when all the UA students were freaking out? it’s just a simple best friend dynamic like what they have with deku but there’s no weird one-sided jealousy/competitiveness involved (luckily, iida got over it after the stain arc haha). they don’t end up feeling bad or unworthy of the praise they get from the other - which is great, because they’re very complimentary towards each other! iida is so understanding (his immediate reaction to uraraka being self-conscious about her reason for pursuing heroism) & uraraka is usually the one who vocalizes how cool and talented iida is (while also giggling her ass off whenever he gets all extra-dramatic)! tbh, curse their aborted moment after iida’s match with mei! let them praise each other!!! i like that their seats are so close to each other too - i wonder how horikoshi decided on the seating plan. but uraraka’s tendency to shake iida by the shoulders is precious & i bet you he breaks his staunch ‘follow-every-rule’ mentality when it comes to uraraka writing him little notes in class. also, maybe uraraka just deserves a sweet+rich boyfriend. it’s that easy. lmao.
i already talked about bakugou/uraraka. it’s great, dripping with potential, needs more canon interaction. i only trust a portion of its fanbase to do them properly. but this is the case for almost every big ship. (where’s that one fandom meme where one of the questions was like ‘what do you hate seeing in fanfic/content for them’ bc NOW THAT I’M ACTUALLY READING FANFIC AGAIN, LEMME TELL YOU. BEING A MULTISHIPPER IS HARD.)
tsuyu and uraraka are just genuinely a good match? i like the contrast between uraraka - who is emotional and upbeat - and tsuyu - who is calm and rational. but they’re both very perceptive? their first night at the dorms is a good indicator of how their dynamic works. the others are quick to accept that tsuyu doesn’t want to play along with the room competition, but uraraka both provides the excuse and lingers behind with worry. she probably had to convince tsuyu that it was okay for her to vocalize her feelings to the bakugou rescue squad, and volunteered to be with her during said confrontation. compare to the forest where tsuyu sweetly and calmly offers uraraka her hand because she sees her friend is scared, without actually needing to say anything else. they’re sweethearts. i absolutely adore them. oh, and i dig their earth/sky + pink/green aesthetic clash.
uraraka and mina are based on two things: 1) they’re always hugging and hanging out in official art/sketches (mina even has a selfie of them hanging on her wall of pics in her room) so i can only assume they’re super-close gal pals that should kiss, 2) i love shipping silly idiots together and it’s hard to find ships like this that are f/f but these two fit that specific chaotic mold!!! and 3) AESTHETIC DREAM!!! PINK SPACE GIRLS!!!! DO I NEED ANY OTHER REASONS? NO. NO, I DO NOT.
HOLY SHIT, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT’S OFFICIALLY CANON THAT TOGA HAS A ROMANTIC CRUSH ON URARAKA? again, i could write an essay on coding and how frustrating it is for characters like toga to usually be bi/pan. but no one’s claiming this a win for rep. and i’m FASCINATED by this dynamic. toga loves stain-sama for his ideals and how that enables her nature to kill. she loves deku-kun out of curiousity for his ideals and the fact they met when he was beaten to a pulp lmao. and she loves ochako-chan because she sees herself in her - she thinks that they share ideals. again, i have no idea what the long-term meaning for this development is but it’s clearly pitting them against each other? and adding a romantic element to that is hmmmmmmmmm. we’ll see, we’ll see. and like i mentioned above, it’s shocking and worrying and makes me ship uraraka and toga more that uraraka ALSO sees the similarity between her and toga. she’s horrified by the implications of it but she hears toga’s spiel and tries to fruitlessly deny that ‘yeah, she’s right. that’s how i am. we’re the same.’ if i were to ever write a traitor!uraraka fanfic (which i would if i could ever FINISH a writing project), it’d be uraraka/toga and uraraka trying to convince herself she’s better than toga, that she still has a moral code and her reasons for joining the league have more weight to it, and she doesn’t!!! care!!! what toga thinks of her!!! and expecting a rivalry but toga doesn’t meet that head-on because instead, toga wants to be close and connected to uraraka. toga has this kind of mature soft side we’ve seen before (with twice) that shows how she can see you at your core (her fight w/ uraraka also showed that) and i want to see uraraka to be on the end when she thinks she doesn’t deserve it and doesn’t trust toga and just being frustrated and confused over it all.
                        —————————————————————–
iida…….i think deku, todoroki, uraraka and aoyama are my biggest ships for him. also, i don’t ship it myself but momo/iida/todoroki’s rich kid squad is A REALLY FUN DYNAMIC AND OT3.
LET’S BE REAL: IIDA/DEKU IS SO UNDERAPPRECIATED IN THIS FANDOM. ALL IIDA SHIPS ARE BUT….IIDA/DEKU. iida’s goddamn….tucked deku into bed. threw his hat in the ring of rivals. there’s official art of iida giving deku a shoulder ride. he punched him to make him see how his actions are affecting him - “haven’t you thought about how *I* feel [about you putting yourself in peril]?!” like. bro. okaaaay. i still laugh that they got on the wrong foot initially - deku was so scared of iida sjfhhf like he was equally worried he’d be stuck in the same class as iida as he was about kacchan. thankfully, iida’s a sweetheart who cares with all his heart, and he sees all that there is to admire about deku, so they became instant friends after that. and iida means SO MUCH to deku. i pay a lot of attention to how future!deku talks in his narration, because he normally interrupts the narrative to move the story along - by talking about minor time skips, the movement of the villains, etc. but he also tends to wax a bit poetic about his friends. like when he interrupted everything to give us a side-story about how and aoyama became bffs. so we can assume that aoyama’s friendship means a lot to adult izuku. or how comforting and important it is to me that even as an adult, he refuses to stop calling bakugou ‘kacchan’. it’s sweet. in that same vein, it strikes me that deku still holds an amount of guilt for not supporting iida better during the whole ingenium-stain debacle. it ended….much better than it could have, and that experience was what strengthened iida/deku/todo’s relationship. yet as an adult, deku still wishes he could have done more. offered iida the help he needed before he went rushing in. hoo. but anyway, yeah, they’re cute! wholesome nerd boys! cute height difference! also yeah, i’m glad that iida got over his sports-festival-era feelings of inferiority towards deku. deku loves competition, but you can tell that he didn’t want that out of his relationship with iida (compare to how he outright covets a rivalry with bakugou and accepted it from todoroki w/ his head held high). it wasn’t based on healthy feelings and they’re so much better as supportive bfs.
iida and todoroki have a lot of stuff in common as legacy heroes who were trained from childhood to be heroes - with the major difference that todoroki faced horrifying abuse that prevented him from having a close relationship with his siblings and made him want to reject his legacy, while the iidas are good folk and iida’s brother means the world to him and he’s so far one of the only heroes we know to reuse a superhero identity based on legacy. and even the painful bullshit (like the ‘take out your muffler and a new, stronger one will grow in’ thing) was something that iida went through on his own accord and with warning. and todoroki’s words of encouragement during the stain arc were based on his own life lesson! they both come off as very serious and abrasive elites at first glance, but they’re actually dorky and socially awkward! but i think they get each other - i imagine they have a very calming friendship, no need for pretenses and judgement, and they deserve that! they probably think the other is hilarious too even though absolutely no one else gets the joke! they had a lot of cute moments recently since they were paired in the same 1A vs 1B match. like iida can just…tell the minute differences in todoroki’s expression and demeanour apart and knows when there’s something wrong. and they’re just so humble and sweet and can’t handle the other being self-deprecating. they’re good boys, brent.
already talked about iida/uraraka. they’re cute, i love them.
AOYAMA THOUGH. knight boys! they were so good during the exam! it really got me that aoyama didn’t even consider the idea that iida might not abandon him, might want to help him and win together instead of just use him to get ahead himself - and iida didn’t even really get the emotional realization aoyama went through there but he was still like ‘YEAH WE DID GOOD! I’M GLAD YOU FEEL BETTER! THUMBS UP! :D’ they’re both very dramatic and - i don’t know how to describe it….they pose a lot, talk with their limbs. they’re silly, is what i mean. and maybe aoyama ALSO deserves a loving, rich boyfriend. MAYBE IIDA SHOULD BE EVERYONE’S LOVING RICH BOYFRIEND. but in this case, aoyama’s boyfriend who will carry him bridal-style everywhere, much to aoyama’s glee lol. except when he’s dragging him along via his cape. whatever works.
also, side note, i find it kinda interesting that fandom pairs him up with girls like mei and camie - when i just….feel like he’d be so out of his element and sooo overwhelmed? i’m wincing just thinking about it lol poor iida.
                        —————————————————————–
i’m glad you specified marvel bc if you’d just said ‘comic’, i would have assumed you meant THE flash and i would be forced to sit here and think of every dc speedster ship…..well, it wouldn’t be as bad as spidey ships (honestly i’m very basic with speedsters - it’s just like ‘speedster/their spouse’ with the adults (even wally - linda or bust, tbh) and ‘speedster/their best friends’ with the teens), but we’d be here longer.
BUT FLASH THOMPSON? i already mentioned my two big ones, with venom and peter but i’m def willing to talk more about them.
flash/venom, a man and his gooey alien husband. i love that it’s a relationship based on self-growth and healing from past hurt and stopping destructive habits and cycles (both that cause self-harm and harm onto others). one of my favourite panels is still where flash pleads with peter to not let his anger seep into venom because venom’s gotten past all that. he’s a better person (being. alien. thing.) now and doesn’t want to turn to feeding on rage ever again. and that’s true for flash (a victim of child abuse who bottled up all that sadness and rage and took his aggression out on other kids) as well. it’s just so….nice. and venom credits all this to flash. and a thing i find about venom is that its unhealthy dynamics are all about control - you’re just its host, it possesses you against your will, you become an out-of-control villain. but with flash, venom sees a partner and home - they need and belong with each other, they communicate and cooperate, they became a superhero. also i love how they’re seriously affectionate and intimate - that’s just kind of a given with venom, i think, because you have to invite & accept it as part of yourself. but flash is so soft with venom - while he’s not as….hm, vocal about it as eddie ‘ooh my love my darling~’ brock is (he’s also a bit less obsessive haha sorry eddie), he’s so protective and likes giving venom headscratches and kissy faces to the point others react to it like they would witnessing PDA. i just want flash to be all cute and smooch his husband when they’re not like. one singular entity. CAN YOU BELIEVE THE HEALTHIEST DYNAMIC FOR FLASH TO BE IN IS WITH A SYMBIOTIC ALIEN GOO CREATURE? I CAN. AND I’M THANKFUL FOR IT.
i also ot3 them with eddie for the sake of my peace of mind where everyone’s happy. where venom’s not torn between two loves, and eddie doesn’t feel the need to think things like ‘it’s tough being someone’s second best’ and ‘i’d like to think he’d do the same for me but part of me knows that would be a lie. it’ll always be flash.’ and having those thoughts because he literally FEELS that pull towards flash? like he inherited those feelings, he KNOWS what it’s like to love flash thompson. LIKE, YO????? GIVE ME THAT SYMBIOT3.
then there’s flash/peter, the funniest super/civvie id love triangle in the world. flash having the biggest hero crush on spider-man in high school - so many superheroes to choose from but spidey is the best, because he’s an underdog, because he gets pushed down and refuses to give up, because he’s SO GODDAMN COOL - while simultaneously thinking peter is frankly, the worst? but in that terrible way where he fixates on peter even when he’s not part of the conversation. waiting for him to leave school so he can be mean to him, feeling frustrated whenever he tries to be nice to the guy and peter either ignores, rejects or insults him in return. peter just being like ‘Sigh’ whenever flash insults him by gushing about spidey, but that’s also why he can’t dislike flash no matter how bad their relationship is. how can he hate spidey’s biggest fan? and also he probably gets a good amount of pleasure out of flash’s gf liz allen having a crush on him. peter also does this to johnny and his gf, dorrie evans - they’re frienemies in high school and kind of obsessed with each other,,,,’heRE’S MY LIST OF 500 REASONS WHY I HATE THE HUMAN TORCH’ OK PETE RELAX. so yeah, peter, despite having genuine feelings for betty brant, hits on liz and dorrie whenever they cross paths and lets them use him to make their hot blond boyfriends jealous. (peter, maybe you ARE the worst. stop it.) and then when they get to college and end up in the same friend group, flash slowly realizes that peter is like. hot now? and like, kind of a cool dude who went through a lot! like, he thought peter was a jerk in HS but he’s actually really nice when he wants to be and is always in your corner! ‘wow, i really like and respect pete! i’m proud to be his friend!’ flash thinks while staring at peter’s biceps. meanwhile, peter has no idea what’s going on because he keeps expecting flash to turn back into a dick (and steal one of his girlfriends lmao) but instead, he just keeps proving he’s a great guy! and keeps confiding in him! and uh, complimenting him a lot? and still fanboys over spidey and that’s really endearing! and oh, he’s really gonna miss him whenever he’s on tour and the idea of flash dying is unthinkable and he really likes being his roommate and he’s who he wants to be his best man and he doesn’t get why flash doesn’t seem to realize how great he is, and welp, he just punched captain america in the face for not telling him flash was agent venom. anyway, bottom line: i like dynamics that are very….long-term and constantly changing? so i tend to fall for the enemies/rivals to friends to lovers thing. or friends to enemies to lovers. but this is a former situation for sure.
also, i’m convinced every corner of the college crew pentagon happened. flash and harry MUST have at least made out once and neither was sure how to deal with the aftermath of that for a couple of months. he’s kissed and casually dated gwen AND mj - but i find it interesting that it seems like neither girl really ever considered him a contender. gwen cares about him but sees him as a shoulder to vent to about her issues with peter, and mj has a lot of fun with him but also considers him the male version of her (outgoing and bright but unwilling to commit and act serious). and he interestingly backs down quickly when peter decides to make a move on the girls. like, compared to his love triangle with liz and peter where i feel he was pretty resistant to letting her go - especially to someone like puny parker, he responds to peter’s accusations re: gwen and mj with ‘hey, relax. it’s not like that. i wouldn’t do that to you.’ i take it as him growing up and not feeling the need to overcompensate to impress his dad and also maybe the fact that he’s a bit more aware of how closeted he is. but it’s weirdly different with harry (*cough* cause it’s the first dude aside from peter he had any romantic interaction with *cough*) so he just……..dances around those feelings (on top of both of their feelings for peter) until harry starts dating liz (BECAUSE EVERYONE DATES EVERYONE IN PETER’S CIRCLE OF PALS, I GUESS) and he’s just like ‘???????????? well okay then’.
i like his dynamic with felicia as much it also pains me - that felicia went into it thinking she could use flash to hurt peter (’i’ll break your heart like he broke mine!’) but then ended up legitimately falling for him and started hoping for a normal life with him. also that they liked hanging out in terrible workout clothes. nerds. (alas, it didn’t last bc….FLASH, BUD….BUDDY….I CAN’T BELIEVE MARVEL HAD FLASH SAY THAT AND THEN PROBABLY SAT BACK AND THOUGHT ‘YUP PETE’S BEST BUD FLASH IS TOTALLY STR8′) and i need to read more of him and betty to get a handle of that but. what i’ve gotten from the panels i’ve seen that it’s very dependant on the writer and has the same problem flash’s relationships with liz, gwen, mj and felicia had where there’s a lot of love there but the actual romantic element is….lacking? falls short? fizzles out? where he seeks out a connection to peter(/spidey) through his romantic relationship with a woman peter used to be involved with and pushes said woman away when she starts getting in too deep?
anyway, that just turned into an essay about how flash thompson has been gay since his conception and only like, 20% (maybe less) of writers in charge of writing him have actually realized it.

reason in madness
JILY CHALLENGE | @padfootdidit vs @wotcherpotter             tv show aus (may) + “ok yes we're all juvenile delinquents but it's mE thats trying to help us survive while yOU just seem to be sabotaging everything...dont give me those eyes like you've done nothing wrong, you're literally holding an automatic weapon???"
This is late and a step away from the prompt a little bit (and a leap away from the actual show) but it’s here and I think that’s what counts.
au: the 100 | word count: 2.4k | ao3: read here
Day 1
The Ark was order. There was nothing out of place, no rule not written, everyone accounted for.
The Ground is chaos. Lily feels it, they all feel it, as soon the Dropship doors open. Light streams in, bright, natural, real light. Light none of them have seen before. She squints, lifting her hand up to shield her eyes and then all she can see is green.
Day 2
No one knew what to expect. But it wasn’t this.
A spear appears out of the trees and Bertram Aubrey almost dies. They aren’t alone. The Ark hadn’t told them to prepare for that. No one had planned for others having survived. The Ground is meant to be a deserted, a ghost town.
“Ghosts don’t have accuracy like that,” Remus Lupin says when Lily says this aloud. He saves Bertram Aubrey’s life. On the Ark he was an apprentice medic and somehow he manages to do just enough that by sunset they’re still at one hundred delinquents.
Day 3
James Potter from Alpha Station stands on the Dropship gangplank and tells them he has a plan to save their lives. James Potter who grew up on Alpha Station and has never wanted for a thing tells them he knows what to do. Lily scoffs at the idea.
“Is there a problem Evans?” He asks, jumping down and stalking over towards her. As if he thinks she’ll back down. Of course she has a problem. What does he know about survival? She’s the one who lived against all odds. Survived beneath the floor, silent, hiding, obeying. She’s the one who knows how to beat death.
She’s just about to tell him as much when Sev appears. Of all people, Sev. He’s not meant to be here. He can’t be here. But he is and, before Lily knows what’s happening, Sev is defending her. Well, he’s punching Potter and she assumes that, in his eyes, that’s defending her.
There’s a brawl. She can’t do anything to stop it. Doesn’t even know if she cares anymore that Sev is on the floor, blood streaming from his nose. He sold her out. He killed her mother. He shouldn’t be here.
Day 4
They sit on opposite ends of the floor of the Dropship which Remus has claimed as an infirmary and Lily ignores Potter as she tells Sev that she doesn’t want anything to do with him anymore. That he shouldn’t have come, that she doesn’t need him.
He tells her that she does, that she doesn’t know what she’s talking about. Potter watches them with a smirk, she can feel it. She doesn’t get to tell him to shut up though because a scouting party returns and they have guns. Lots and lots of guns.
Day 5
Potter is back on his feet and even more ignorant than ever. He stands on the Dropship’s gangplank, pistol tucked into his waistband and automatic slung over his back and tells them they’re going to head for Mount Weather. It’s their only hope, apparently. Lily scoffs at this too.
“Got any better ideas?”
“One, start hunting, two, learn how to fire a gun, three, stay where we know is safe, four, get a better leader, five –“
“You think I’m the leader?”
“You’re acting like you are so-“
“That’s very kind of you Evans, I feel honoured that you would –“
“Finish your sentence, I dare you,” she says and aims her own gun at his chest. She has no idea how to fire it but Potter doesn’t know that. She smirks as he raises his hands in surrender.
Day 6
Lily shakes her head as Potter leads a group of delinquent volunteers into the forest, heading towards Mount Weather. According to his map there’s a signal tower a day’s walk away which will help them find Mount Weather, and allow them to contact the Ark.
It’s a stupid idea, venturing out into territory they know from experience is dangerous. Sev thinks so too and he tries to tell her.
“Who does he think he is, right? Marching –‘
“Who do you think you are Sev? Judge, jury, executioner? You’re definitely a murderer.”
“Lily, I didn’t –“ he trails off as she walks away. She’s not listening to this. Doesn’t need to listen to this anymore. Just needs to survive and she doesn’t need anyone’s help to do that.
Day 7
They have a perimeter fence now and food and another of the scouting parties found a freshwater pond which doesn’t seem to be contaminated. Lily goes with Remus to check it out and he tells her that Potter is just trying to help.
“Help get us all killed you mean.”
Day 8
Black runs into the clearing first. He’s yelling for Remus. Lily leaps up from where she’s trying to skin a rabbit and can do nothing but stare as Potter limps into view, supporting a bleeding girl. Behind him three other delinquents each carry their own load. Not all of them are moving.
“We… ambush.” Is all Potter says as he gently lowers the girl to the floor in front of Remus.
“They’re fucking animals,” Black spits and swats Remus away from the gash on his neck. “Her first.”
Day 9
They’re down to ninety seven.
No one wants to leave their perimeter anymore. Not even to hunt. Lily volunteers, only because she wants to get away from the three graves that now rest behind the Dropship.
“I’ll go too,” Potter says and she wonders if it’s out of guilt for the graves or a desperation to annoy her.
“No thanks,” and she leaves before he can even get up to follow.
Day 10
A spear flies into camp and Bertram Aubrey’s second chance at life is cut short.
Day 11
“What if we just –“ a spear flies into camp and the boy from Farm Station doesn’t get to finish his suggestion.
Day 20
They’re being picked off one by one.
They’re down to eighty six.
Day 21
“We need to fight back,” Potter says, “or we’ll starve before they kill us all.”
“All they have is spears, it’ll be a piece of cake,” Black says. Lily has never had a piece of cake. She doesn’t care about how easy it will be. She cares about what it will cost them if they kill the only other people who survived the end of the world.
“Or we could talk to them.”
Day 22
She walks out of camp with a shredded white top wrapped around a stick and hopes they know what it means. She walks out of camp without any weapons and hopes she doesn’t die.
“Stop!” A voice, muffled, calls from above her and she stops. Looks up. Refuses to let herself be scared when a figure, followed by eight more, drop from the trees. She can’t see their faces. They’re all shrouded in thick animal fur and mud.
“We don’t want to –“
“Stop!” The first figure to jump holds their hand up. Before Lily can speak again two others have grabbed her arms and pinned them behind her back.
“Hey!” Oh my fuck, he wants to die.
Day 23
They don’t kill Potter and Lily can’t decide if she’s happy about this or not. They could have at least had the curtesy to put them in separate cells. But no, here she is, on The Ground, prisoner and stuck in close proximity with the Prince of the Ark.
“You know, if you stopped working against me, we could actually do something good.” He suggests, staring at her intently.
“You’ve done nothing but try to kill us since we landed your highness,” she shuffles around so she doesn’t have to face his gaze, “why would I stop working against you.”
“Contrary to popular opinion, I’m actually trying to keep us alive. If you would just stop sabotaging every-“
“Me? Sabotage?” She shuffles back around. Wonders if their guard would mind if she killed him. “What about yesterday? What about following me out when the agreed upon plan was for me to go alone? That wasn’t sabotage?”
“That was –“ their guard bangs on the door and they shut up. Potter still stares though. Somehow, it’s louder than his voice.
Day 24
The Grounders agree to a treaty. Well, an arrangement. Well, something.
They agree not to kill any more of their people, if the delinquents promise that they will stay on their side of the forest and not cause any damage. It’s an easy promise to make in exchange for their lives.
Day 25
Sev runs to greet her when they return and Lily is surprised when Potter steps in front of her. She’s not really upset about it but she also doesn’t appreciate it either. She can handle herself. Resents any implication otherwise.
“Move, Potter, I –“
“Need to get the fuck away from, Evans, just like she’s already told you a hundred times.”
“Potter,” she lays a hand on his arm, glares, then turns to Sev. “You really do need to stay the fuck away from me.”
Day 30
They meet with the Grounders again, this time sans the binds and threats of death. The Grounders tell them that Mount Weather is a myth and attempting to reach it would be an unnecessary risk to everyone’s life.
Potter still wants to go.
Day 31
“My parents told me about it, okay, and they aren’t the sort of people who would put our lives at risk, so –“
“They sent you down here.”
“Evans, you have no idea what happened –“
“No, but I know what’s going to happen if we try and find Mount Weather.”
“So you’re a seer now as well as a pain in the arse?”
Day 32
A vote is taken and somehow Potter wins.
Day 33
They start the trek to Mount Weather before the sun has risen and leave the Dropship behind. They’ve taken all their supplies, which were starting to run out anyway, and left the perimeter gate open. Lily finds herself leading the group alongside Potter and she’s not sure how it happened but they’ve become sort of a team. At least, all the other delinquents treat them like that. They don’t actually act like a team. No team has ever disagreed as much as them.
Still, the other delinquents listen to them and look to them and only Black doesn’t take orders from them.
Lily isn’t sure if she minds. They’re still alive. He’s not all that bad. Not every idea out of his mouth is a death wish, even if some of them sound like it. He’s not even that entitled which is just annoying because it makes him endearing and Lily doesn’t want him to be endearing.
When they stop for the night, he takes a seat next to her around the fire and offers her his unfinished rations.
“What’s this?”
“Peace offering.”
“What if I don’t want –“
“Just take the damn food, Evans.”
She takes the damn food and they sit side by side in silence as the rest of the delinquents chatter and eat and sleep. She eats the damn food and considers that maybe she could stop sabotaging the majority of his plans. She finishes the damn food and thinks maybe, just maybe, they might actually be able to make it work.
They might actually be able to survive. Together.

TRANSMISSIONS
www.twitch.tv/transmissions2020
Our collective isolation highlights that all forms of community are now more important than ever, and it is vital that we find mechanisms to support each other through this precarious time. In this extraordinary landscape that we have found ourselves in, it is clear that many artists, writers and thinkers are having exhibitions, opportunities and subsequent fees cancelled for the foreseeable future. In response to this, we are establishing a new project called TRANSMISSIONS. This is an online platform which will commission artists to share their work within a classic DIY TV show format.

Episode 2 | 30 April | 9PM GMT REPLAY | 1 May | 9AM GMT w/ Sophie Jung
Sophie Jung, The Bigger Sleep, 2019 courtesy the artist and Kunstmuseum Basel. Photo: Julian Salinas
Working across text, sculpture and performance, Sophie Jung’s work navigates the politics of re/er/re/presentation and challenges the reductive desire to conclude. Her texts unfocus on blurring scripted hegemonies and tap, hop, stammer and stumble over and across languaged powers. She employs humour, shame, the absurd, raw anger, rhythm and rhyme, slapstick, hardship, friendship and a constant stream of slippages. Her sculptural work consists of bodies made up of both found and haphazardly produced attributes and defines itself against the dogma of an Original Idea or a Universal Significance. Instead it stands as a network of abiding incompletion, an ever-changing choir of urgencies and pleasures, traumas and manifestations that communally relay between dominant and minor themes. Sophie Jung is invested in triggering a de-categorising of concepts and a deconceptualisation of categories and understands her approach to “stuff” – both legible utensil and metaphoric apparition – as an uncertain queering slash querying of historical materialism. Sophie Jung (lives and works in Basel and London) received a BFA from the Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, and a MFA from Goldsmiths, London. Recent projects and exhibitions include Sincerity Condition at Casino Luxembourg, Woman Standing at The National Gallery, Prague, Taxpayer’s Money for Frieze LIVE; Dramatis Personaea at JOAN, Los Angeles; The Bigger Sleep at Kunstmuseum Basel | Gegenwart and Block Universe, London; Come Fresh Hell or Fresh High Water at Blain Southern, London; Producing My Credentials at Kunstraum London and Paramount VS Tantamount at Kunsthalle Basel. She is currently working on solo exhibitions at E.A. Shared Space, Istituto Svizzero in Milan and Galerie Joseph Tang in Paris and works as a guest mentor at Institut Kunst, Basel.

Episode 4 | 14 May | 9PM GMT REPLAY |  15 May | 9AM GMT w/ Johanna Hedva – Tom Cruise Studies with expert guests Vivian Ia and Matthew Miller
Tom Cruise Studies is a meander of curiosity. There is no driving inquiry other than the question, "What's, like, up with Tom Cruise?" Hedva considers the various roles Cruise has played onscreen and in public, from religious zealot, to cocky upstart, to a man oppressed by his own masculinity, to couch-jumping love-nut, to an exiled actor who clawed his way back into Hollywood via a maniacal obsession with doing death-certain stunts. Joined by two expert guests, Hedva and Vivian Ia will consider the astrology charts of Cruise and L. Ron Hubbard, while Matthew Miller will share his theory that the Mission Impossible franchise is Cruise's vehicle for making public apologies to his ex-wife, Katie Holmes.
Johanna Hedva is a Korean-American writer, artist, musician, and astrologer, who was raised in Los Angeles by a family of witches, and now lives in LA and Berlin. Hedva is the author of the novel, On Hell. Their collection of poems, performances, and essays, Minerva the Miscarriage of the Brain, will be published in September 2020. Their essay, "Sick Woman Theory," published in Mask in 2016, has been translated into six languages, and their writing has appeared in Triple Canopy, frieze, The White Review, and Asian American Literary Review. Their work has been shown at The Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, Performance Space New York, the LA Architecture and Design Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art on the Moon, as well as featured in parrhesiades. Their album, The Sun and the Moon, was released in March 2019, and they’re currently touring Black Moon Lilith in Pisces in the 4th House, a doom metal guitar and voice performance influenced by Korean shamanist ritual.
Vivian Ia lives in Berlin. Their poetry is Pushcart-nominated and has appeared or is forthcoming in Bone Bouquet, Tiny Seed, The Gravity of the Thing, Fourteen Hills, and Berkeley Poetry Review.
Matthew Miller is a video director from Sacramento, California. He works in both live-action and animation to create short films and commercial projects. In the last four years, he’s directed a series of short films for The Getty Museum with artists and authors such as Ellsworth Kelly, Yo-Yo Ma, Mary Beard, Mario Vargas Llosa, and Ed Ruscha. He is currently in quarantine with his wife and Snoopy-esque dog, Millie, in Hawaiian Gardens, California, where he has been dividing his time between starting a garden and collecting ideas for a film project.

"CAConrad's poems invite the reader to become an agent in a joint act of recovery, to step outside of passivity and propriety and to become susceptible to the illogical and the mysterious." ---Tracy K. Smith, New York Times.
