Wrestle Kingdom 17 Quick Thoughts
So it's January which means Wrestle Kingdom day, singular this time though having strangely swapped mentality with WWE on forgoing a 2-Day main PPV
Nevertheless, we'll see what the show has to offer, I'm not gonna go in full depth like previous ones, just general thoughts I had during the show
Spoilers for those who didn't wanna know
I must admit I hate the KOPW Ranbo, it often just feels like the 'this is all the talent we don't have anything for right now' rumble and then you have to watch the likes of KENTA, Cobb, Great O Khan, Shingo Takagi, Ishii fight for it. There's some bright spots for comedy like ELP eliminating someone via a nipple cripple but overall it is something I could do without
Junior Tag Title was fun, but I probably would not have had the opener with cheering officially back end in a heel win via roll-up
I am also fuming that NJPW only gave KAIRI and Tam 6 minutes, sure there'd be aftermath but given how past Exhibition and Dark matches for Stardom went longer it's a huge disservice that the first Title Match (for the IWGP Women's Championship made to establish a stronger relation between Stardom and NJPW) is also Stardom's shortest entry in Wrestle Kingdom
Mercedes had a great look side for the fire hair which looked weird at angles, honestly I think her debut could've been done better; she was geared up but didn't wrestle, she botched that Gory Special/DDT move (which through experience watching the Tay-KO from Tay Melo is not easy to synchronize anyway) and her promo was a tad on the basic side, not bad but below expectation
FTR losing already felt like writing on the wall given how they dropped the ROH and AAA tag titles already, it was a decent match and Bishamon are a great tag team but we could've gone with a more refreshing choice, shame to hear that FTR had travel issues too
I will say though that dropping their titles is not 'clear indication' that they're going to WWE, they've had a busy as hell year so now they can rest up, Dax has noted that he's closer to the end of his career than the middle so they may prefer a lighter schedule, I've said it before but just because Triple H is doing okay in WWE does not mean every ex-WWE member is frothing to come back
ZSJ won the gingerbread biscuit title to nobody's surprise, but him replacing JONAH in TMDK is a strong choice
Makes me wonder who else will join now that Suzuki-Gun is no more, Archer and Despy are TMDK material but I could also see them in Bullet Club, a huge curveball would be Despy to LIJ
I actually really liked the Muta six-man, it had a good pace and showcase which still allowed Mutoh to shine, but in the end they used it to put over the younger talent by having Shooter get the pin
LIJ vs Kongoh has the potential to slap hard again, I did panic when they were saying 'backstage altercation' that there would be some shoot activity going on, flashbacks of All Out had me worried
I like Hiromu, but this win really started to grind on the 'nothing changes' critique I get every time I watch WK; the title always makes its way back to him, we did well to get people behind Master Wato and his Crucifix Hip Toss thing is actually pretty cool, but again we do need fresher faces in the title picture
Kenny out with the Sephiroth gear was cool but then Ospreay whipped out Elevated just when I was thinking 'I miss Will's old theme'
To nobody's surprise, the match was among the best, probably the best, it did start out like an Omega showcase but after the table spot it came to life, the ending was great as well; Ospreay bloody and defiant and Kenny using an absolutely brutal Kamigoye and OWA to win
You're best to bet on Death Triangle winning the best of 7 in AEW now that Kenny's US champion
*sigh* Okada's great we get it but god damn why does it always end with Okada winning? Jay's great too you know? Honestly I think Gedo needs help. Shingo challenges next but we all know this won't really end well for him.
It just never changes, I can go back to WK11 - when the era of the Rainmaker had its last WK defense before losing to Kenny at Dominion - and since then Okada had only lost twice at Wrestle Kingdom, and that was WK13 to Jay, right on the end of his red dye balloon phase, and WK14's Double Gold Dash - where he had beaten Ibushi for the world title on Day 1 just to lose correctly to Naito on Day 2.
It goes deeper too; since WK11 Hiromu has been in 6 out of 7 Junior Heavyweight title matches, he's only lost twice (to Despy at 16 and Ospreay at 12). Bishamon are 2 for 2 in winning the tag titles at WK having beaten Dangerous Tekkers last year, you have to go back to WK13 for Ospreay's last singles win (at least this time the United Empire wasn't swept this time), WK14 since Jay's last win (and it was a consolation win since he lost the IC title in the Double Gold Dash). Even just comparing to WK16 there are similarities in booking.
A lot of the time I watch Wrestle Kingdom and compare where wrestlers are now compared to last year, and each time I find that the ones I liked last year fall down while the ones who can take losses to put people over remain on top, of course there are exceptions - Master Wato and Shota Umino for instance - but most of the time it ends this way
The show was okay, I feel like a lot of things could've been better, if they did 2 days they'd have had more time for other things as well

The Road to... Wrestlemania XL
Part 3: Jey Uso vs. Jimmy Uso
Tumblr media
Who has a longer history than not only brothers but twin brothers? They've been together since Day One (ish) but now...
If you've read Part 1 of this series, you know all about The Bloodline. Roman Reigns' and his family have been on top of the WWE for the past 3 years. The two most prominent members of this faction has long been the team of The Usos. Since debuting on WWE TV in 2010, this tag team of brothers have been one of the leading teams in the whole company. From brightly-dressed faces to more sinister heels, and even determined tweeners, they are 8-time tag team champions as a duo.
Fast forward 10 years from their debuts. Roman Reigns has just returned to WWE and won the WWE Universal Championship. When a match is set up to determine his next contender, there's a surprising winner: his cousin, Jey Uso.
Jey Uso One half of The Usos, now nicknamed "Main Event", and a member of the Anoa'i Family Standing at 6'2'', weighing 242lbs, from San Francisco, California, USA, he is now a 10-time tag team champion and the son of Rikishi Finisher: Uso Splash
Tumblr media
Uso was keen to reunite with his cousin and have a sporting match for the title. Despite his tag team success, many never thought he would have an opportunity to challenge for the World Title. However, with brother Jimmy injured, he had earned this shot. He would face Reigns at Clash of Champions 2020, but Reigns was cold and brutal against his cousin, hitting a low blow on Uso. The match would only end when Jimmy Uso threw in the towel, with Reigns raining down strikes demanding Jey acknowledge him as The Tribal Chief.
A defiant Jey would not back down though, and would take on Reigns again at Hell in a Cell for the title in a Hell in a Cell I Quit match. Reigns would try to destroy his cousin, even fighting off officials who tried to stop the match. Jey would never quit from this. When brother Jimmy arrived and begged their cousin Roman to stop, The Tribal Chief appeared to feel extreme guilt for his actions... before ensnaring Jimmy in a Guillotine Hold. To stop this happening to his brother, Jey finally said "I Quit". Reigns would walk out the victor, and be sat at the head of the Anoa'i table.
With all this, Jey finally bent the knee and joined The Bloodline. He would carry on the momentum of his great matches as the "Right Hand Man" of Reigns. In May 2021, Jimmy Uso would return from injury, and despite some conflict, he would shortly join The Bloodline too. In this time, The Usos would dominate the tag team division, winning their 7th and 8th championships as part of The Bloodline. These were both sets of WWE Tag Titles which they held consecutively for 316 days, holding the Smackdown titles for 622 days total.
During this reign, Jey would almost leave The Bloodline over the excommunication of Sami Zayn, but he would turn his back on his friend. It was in the main event of Wrestlemania 39: Saturday that The Usos lost the titles to Zayn & Kevin Owens, and having failed to recapture them, Reigns was losing his patience with them. When he and Solo Sikoa, The Usos' younger brother, challenged for the titles, it would be Jimmy who would cost them the match and leave The Bloodline by superkicking Reigns. Whilst they tried to keep Jey from leaving, he would side with his brother no matter what. At Money in the Bank 2023, The Usos would defeat Reigns & Sikoa with Jey being the first man to pin Reigns since December 2019.
This would lead to Reigns defending against Jey Uso one more time in the main event of Summerslam 2023 in an anything-goes Tribal Combat match. Jey was building up a head of steam when the unthinkable happened. He was pulled from the ring when he had Reigns beat. Who did it? His brother, Jimmy Uso.
Jimmy Uso The other half of The Usos, part of the Anoa'i Family, and son of Rikishi. Standing at 6'3'', 251lbs, from San Francisco, California, USA, he is an 8-time tag team champion. Finisher: Uso Splash
Tumblr media
Jey would go on to lose this match, and when he confronted Jimmy, he said he feared what the power would do to Jey's head. Heartbroken, Jey would quit the company, but would eventually return to the Raw show away from his family. It's here where he would establish himself as "Main Event" Jey Uso, challenging for their World Title and being a part of their top tier talent. He would reclaim both sets of Tag Team Championships briefly with Cody Rhodes, and even become known for his use of the term "Yeet".
Jimmy would rejoin The Bloodline without Jey, and he began to get even more desperate as he was under high pressure from Reigns. These two brothers would continue to feud though. They would brawl, Jimmy would cost Jey matches, and Jimmy would even coin "No Yeet". It became obvious that this needed to end, and where else but Wrestlemania?
Tag Partner vs. Tag Partner. Brother vs. Brother. Twin vs. Twin. At Wrestlemania XL Saturday, it all comes down to Jey Uso vs. Jimmy Uso.
WWE have put out a compilation video summing up this feud, and you can check it out here.

ANarChY (c) vs The Apex - MPW World Tag Team Championships
Starting this match off is Bayley and VIOLET for their respective sides. Bayley looks hesitant to lock up with VIOLET, but manages to pull him in for a side headlock. VIOLET pushes her off on the ropes, dropping down, but Bayley rolls over him. Bayley ducks a clothesline, spinning around for a back elbow, but VIOLET ducks that as well. A leg sweep attempt from Bayley is jumped over, as VIOLET continues these lightning quick reversals, before nailing Bayley with a spinning leg lariat! Bayley gets knocked into the corner, and VIOLET charges her, hitting a running back elbow! She rolls forward, shaking her hips as Bayley slides down. VIOLET  charges back in, lifting herself up with the ropes, and nails Bayley with a pendulum Bronco Buster! She stands up and spins in a circle as Bayley rolls out of the ropes. VIOLET heads to the top rope - but Rhea plays distractor. VIOLET can barely plant her feet before Bayley grabs her and throws her to the mat! Tag to Rhea, but Bayley nails her with a facebuster on the knee, and Ripley follows through with a neckbreaker, right across Bayley’s knee. VIOLET grabs for her neck, rolling outside the ring for a reprieve. Bayley nods her head, looking to take care of him, and slides out of the ring. She lines VIOLET up between the turnbuckle rungs, before charging and slipping through them, taking VIOLET out with a baseball slide under the turnbuckles!
Ripley hops out on the apron to join in the assault on VIOLET, but Matsumoto charges her, and knocks Rhea down with a yakuza kick to the back of her skull! Matsumoto wraps Rhea around the ropes and beats her chest in with huge, overhand clubs, when Rhea suddenly grabs the arm and snaps it over the top rope. Bayley sends them through the ropes and to the floor with a dropkick to the back. They share a look before locking hands, Ripley giving Bayley leverage to run up the ropes and springboard off, taking ANarChY down with a huge crossbody! Somehow, after some impressive teamwork, and maybe some missteps on the part of their opponents, Bayley and Rhea have the champs reeling.
Moving the action back into the ring, Ripley and VIOLET are still the legal competitors here, and Rhea has VIOLET on the defensive, sitting in the middle of the ring after taking a headbutt. She runs the ropes, knocking him back down with a basement dropkick! VIOLET’s lifted up once more as Ripley picks him up for what looks to be a back suplex, but slams VIOLET down on his face instead! The tag is then made to Bayley, who charges into her partner’s arms, allowing Ripley to lift her up, and they hit an assisted senton! Shoulders down!
1… Kickout!
A fast, defiant kickout by VIOLET, but Bayley wastes no time in getting her back up to continue the offense, running her mouth as she does. Bayley gets her up, trying to whip VIOLET across the ring, but VIOLET reverses. Bayley uses the ropes to pick herself up and over VIOLET, rolling back, before charging back to her, and crushing VIOLET’s jaw with a step-up knee strike! Rhea reaches out, making the blind tag as Bayley sends VIOLET down with a snapmare. Bayley hits the ropes, knocking VIOLET down with another sliding knee strike, before sitting her up, and Rhea bulldozes into her with a running big boot! VIOLET could be out, and Rhea makes the cover!
1… 2 - Kickout!
Whipping VIOLET hard into the turnbuckles, Rhea goes after him - but he moves! Rhea hits the turnbuckles instead, and VIOLET turns the tides, going wild on Rhea in the corner! Finally getting some momentum going her way, when Bayley grabs her from behind! She turns VIOLET around and slaps her across the face, opening VIOLET up to get attacked from behind by Rhea! Bayley hops inside, she and Rhea taking one of each of VIOLET’s arms, before the two trade spots, tying VIOLET up in a straight jacket, before slamming her into the corner! They draw her out, and lift her up, before slamming her down onto her back again, this time in the middle of the ring! Rhea makes the cover!
1… 2 - Kickout!
The Champions stay alive, but they’re getting more and more desperate with each passing moment. Matsumoto’s desperately reaching for the tag, and VIOLET has to catch Rhea with a boot to roll over, reaching out to them. Rhea grabs her trunks as she goes for the tag, ripping VIOLET back. Ripley runs the ropes, but she’s caught by a dropkick! VIOLET creates an opening, but collapses from exhaustion! Slowly, she’s able to crawl… inching forward… and gets the tag!
Matsumoto bursts into the ring for the first time tonight, and PLOWS through Rhea  Ripley with a double handed chop! Lifting Rhea up with a forearm on the throat, Matsumoto lays into her with quick, brutal forearms, alternating between arms, until Rhea can’t hold herself up anymore. They then pick her up into a fallaway slam position, but before tossing her, Matsumoto softens up Rhea’s sides and backs with knee lifts, before finally tossing her across the ring! The momentum sends Ripley right back to her feet, and Matsumoto grabs her just as quickly, and drives her down with VX! Cover to retain!
1… 2… Kickout!
Rhea out at two and immediately vacates to the floor, needing some space between her and The Machine. But Matsumoto doesn’t give it to her. Following her out ot the floor, Rhea is scooped up, Matsumoto planting her with a running powerslam on the floor! Rhea’s spine arches up as she cries out in pain, but Matsumoto isn’t done. They pick her up, and slam her on the apron with a vicious powerbomb! Matsumoto rolls her back inside the ring and gozzles, military press, and Matsumoto hits the Spinebuster! YOMOTSU HIRASAKA could be the end of the Eradicator tonight!
1… 2.. Broken up!
Matsumoto throws Bayley right back down to the floor before they lay into Ripley with stomps to the back, picking their target, before she’s lifted up and whipped hard across the ring, colliding with the turnbuckles like a freight train! Matsumoto rolls over, making the tag to VIOLET, who continues to target the spine of Ripley. As the shots rain down, Rhea starts to have enough, and whips around, stunning VIOLET with a headbutt! She snarls in VIOLET’s face, but VIOLET doesn’t back down! He lays into her with a trifecta of forearms, before bringing her into the Lovers corner, bouncing her face off the turnbuckles, and tags in Matsumoto. Matsumoto comes in and picks Rhea up, nailing her with a nasty backbreaker! She’s drug back to the corner, where VIOLET’s tagged in once more, utilizing quick tags here to inflict more punishment on their opponent, and keep the legal wrestler fresh. But there’s a change in pace here as VIOLET whips Rhea across the ring, but she slides to the outside instead - where Matsumoto grabs her! She tried to take him out, but Matsumoto saw it coming, and dumped her onto the ring apron with a back suplex! A nasty fall for Rhea’s targeted back, and she’s rolled back inside the ring, where VIOLET looks for another back suplex - but she lands on her feet! Rhea ducks under her clothesline and rolls through, making the tag to Bayley!
She comes in hot out of the gate, nailing Matsumoto and VIOLET with a pair of clotheslines. Matsumoto’s caught by a twisting back elbow, and VIOLET takes a twisting enzuigiri, before she charges Matsumoto, nailing him with a shoulder thrust. She grabs their head for a bulldog, and on the way to deliver, takes VIOLET down with a clothesline! Bayley fists pumps the air, celebrating that mini victory, but her work here isn’t done, and she knows it. Getting VIOLET up in the corner, she lays him down into a tree of woe, when she’s caught by a knife edge chop from Matsumoto. Matsumoto whips her into the corner, but Bayley reverses, charging in after Matsumoto. Matsumoto uses the ropes to go up and over Bayley, snapping back to her, where he throws Bayley with a hurricanrana - but she’s able to use it to roll, and deliver an elbow drop to VIOLET, who was still stuck in the tree of woe! Matsumoto grabs at their hair, clearly not intending to do that, but he doesn’t get the chance to rest, as Bayley rushes into the ring, and catches him with an Exploder suplex! Matsumoto hits the ground hard enough to bounce up, allowing Rhea to lift him up, and alley-oop him into Bayley, who drives him into the mat with a Powerbomb! Matsumoto’s stacked up for the pin!
1… 2… Kickout!
Matsumoto survives, but a wicked smile is shared between Rhea and Bayley, as Bayley points to the top rope. With some work, they manage to get themselves to the top rope, poised and ready to deliver a Golden Shower… but VIOLET’s here! He rips Rhea down, throwing her to the outside, as Matsumoto jumps up and starts hammering at Bayley. VIOLET eventually joins them in the ring, joining Matsumoto up on the middle rope, as the two quickly batter Bayley down. Once she’s weakened, they hook her arms over their heads, and fall back, delivering a Double Superplex! It hurts VIOLET nearly as much as it does Bayley, all the damage he’s taken to her back, but Matsumoto encourages her to keep going - when Rhea grabs them. Her arms are wrapped tight around Matsumoto’s waist, and she’s able to muscle them up, and deliver a devastating German suplex on the apron! That could be it for Matsumoto, and VIOLET isn’t much better off, as Bayley jumps to the top rope with her, and brings them down to the mat, nailing VIOLET with a Bayley to Belly! VIOLET’s out cold, and Bayley wants to put the final nail in the coffin here, going back up top, looking for the Swanton Bomb. As she gets her feet positioned, though, VIOLET’s suddenly on her feet, and knocks her down! Bayley’s crotched on the top rope, and Rhea comes over to defend her partner, charging VIOLET, but she EATS a Superkick from VIOLET!
VIOLET calls for the end of it all, when the Timeless One makes her appearance on the apron. A shrill cry draws VIOLET’s attention as Toni holds her hand up, looking like she might faint. Before we can find out what is ailing Miss Storm, we see Bayley make a quick tag to Rhea in the background. Ripley sneaks in, and rolls VIOLET up deep to steal this!
1… 2… KICKOUT!
Rolling VIOLET back, Rhea kicks her square in the jaw! Pumphandle, Rhea going for the Riptide - but VIOLET reverses into a DDT! Another quick tag to Bayley, who knocks VIOLET to the floor. Off the ropes, Bayley looks to fly - but VIOLET pushes Toni in the way! Suicide dive on Storm!
Bayley tries to check on Toni and help her up, but she turns around to see VIOLET flying from the apron, taking her out with a meteora! She pushes Bayley back inside the ring and right into a wheelbarrow from Matsumoto. They grab both of Bayley’s arms into a chicken wing, and VIOLET nails her with a running knee strike! VIOLET flips her over, and locks in UltraVIOLET! As Bayley struggles, Rhea tries to make the save, but gets POUNCED right back out of the ring! Bayley taps out!
“Here are your winners, and STILL MPW World Tag Team Champions, ANarChY!”

“Why is Sidney Crosby and the Penguins staring at us?”
Nina turned around and smirked as she saw Sid, Tanger, Geno, Jake, Murs, and a couple of guys that she couldn’t place. “Sometimes I work with the team. They are probably wondering how I got into here.”
It had been over two years since Nina had started working with the team and she had fallen into a routine. Work on the guys, give them routines to help ease the pain and heal their injuries, rinse and repeat. Well, sometimes it included some flirting but that had ended once Nina heard about the woman named Kathy.
“I’m not really a Pens fan but it’s cool that they keep winning their championship,” Ron remarked. “It’s some kind of cup.”
“It’s the Stanley Cup,” Nina replied.
“Yeah, whatever.”
As Ron, her date, made excited talk about the Steelers, Nina sipped her wine. She had attended a game with Lauren, taking advantage of discounted tickets when Lauren pointed her out. Nina was glad that she could keep a straight face when Lauren told her that was Sidney’s girlfriend. Lauren had added that they were off-and-on but Nina didn’t care. Of course he had a girlfriend while flirting with her. Ever since then, Nina kept her interactions with the captain strictly professional.
It didn’t help that Sidney looked good. His hair was cut short and he looked like expensive whiskey mixed with heartbreak. As Ron kept talking, Nina interrupted with a smile. “Let’s not keep talking about the Pens. What do you do?”
Ron explained, “I teach at St. Dominic’s. Fourth grade, I love it.”
“That’s cool,” Nina replied, “Teaching is a gift, you must have a lot of patience.”
As Ron shared stories from his work, Nina felt bored. He was her first date so far and he spent more time talking about himself and what he liked more than letting her attempt to talk. save me, Nina texted Lauren. Her phone then rang and Nina gave Ron a smile. “Oh that’s my babysitter. I gotta go see what’s going on.”
Nina hurriedly got up and ran to the far wall by a less populated bar and snapped Lauren never again with this 1. Try again
**
Sidney wasn’t having the greatest time. Nina had been quietly ignoring him for a while and now she was out with some guy, giving him starry eyes. As soon as she excused herself from her table, Sidney made his own excuses. He thought Nina was going to the bathroom but she had gone elsewhere. Luckily, this restaurant had it’s bathrooms close together and after taking care of his business, Sidney strolled out. He was ready to wait to see if Nina was coming this way but he saw her over on the far wall, on her phone.
“Hi, pretty girl.”
Nina rolled her eyes as she stood on the wall. Sidney was right in front of her, ignoring the gawking eyes of everyone around them. Normally, Nina would be dreading this because it would be gossiped all over the internet. But, from working peripherally with the team, Nina was very aware that the team’s PR ruled the team’s branding with an iron hand. There may be whispers but Nina didn’t have to worry about people trying to stalk her. “I’m here with someone.”
“Your friends?”
Sidney leaned closer, his breath rustling her hair. He touched a curl, noticing Nina’s shiver. Her hair was out of her customary braids, curled into waves that begged to be touched. Maybe it was the beer and cognac in his veins but Sidney was ready to throw it all to the wind to dance with Nina. Then a guy came towards them, a wary expression on his face. Nina smiled at him and Sidney felt his heart plummet to his feet. “This is Ron, Ron, this is Sidney, one of the Penguins I sometimes treat at work.”
Putting his best PR smile on his face, Sidney shook his hand. He was taller than him, and Black like Nina. Of course Nina would be dating him.
“Wow, I’m a huge fan,” Ron exclaimed. Nina gave Ron a what the fuck look and Sidney inwardly smirked.
“Have you been to a game?”
Sidney put his hands in his pockets as he waited for that guy, what was his name, Rob or something to answer his question.
Ron shrugged. “A couple of times. Nina was telling me that we should go to a game sometime together.”
“Um, I did?”
Sidney wanted to sign with relief when Nina looked at that guy with a puzzled expression. From years on the ice, Sidney had learned how to read people’s body language and expressions. Even though Nina now had a pleasant expression on her face, she was definitely not into this guy at all. As Nina pulled the guy away from him, Sidney thought, ‘Maybe tonight isn’t so bad after all.’
**
“Nice guy.”
Nina smirked as she looked at Jake. “You saw what happened last week?”
Jake sighed as Nina flexed his foot after using a TENS unit on it. “He was a real winner. Sid said something about him saying you were going to bring him to a game.”
Nina rolled her eyes as she said, “He was talking shit on the team before he met Sid. I made sure to block him from everything after I told him I was interested. He’s a clout chaser.”
“Clout?”
Geno had wandered into the treatment area and sat in the chair across from where Nina was working on Jake.
Jake explained, “Some guy looking to brag that he met Sid through Nina.”
“One of them.”
“I blocked him ASAP.
Geno gave Nina a knowing look as she shrugged. “New boyfriend? Maybe Sid?”
Nina grinned at Geno and Geno asked, “Yes, you and Sid?”
“My Tinder account says….. no,” Nina replied, earning groans from both men.
“Need to take my friend out of his misery,” Geno stated.
Jake laughed, “I’m actually enjoying this shit.”
“Enjoying what?”
Tánger walked in and Nina quickly said, “All done, Jake. Just keep doing your exercises when you can and your foot should stop cramping. I gotta go.”
“Go? Just started,” Geno yelled and in a moment of unprofessionalism, Nina gave him the finger.
**
“You know we can’t be together right now.”
Nina gasped as Sidney pressed into her. It was another night out, her first night out after dumping Greg. Steely did not like him and Greg was trying to move into her place after only being together for two months. The minute he mentioned that “they” would have to get rid of Steely if they were going to live together, Nina told him it was over by text. After blocking him on everything and a week of moping, Nina had gone out with Lauren and Karesha. Of course, Sidney and some of the boys were at the same bar they were.
“So.”
Sidney bent down and kissed her neck. Nina groaned. It was obvious that The Kid was definitely not sober and while she was a bit tipsy herself, Nina could sense the mistake waiting to be made. Pushing him away, Nina took in several shaky deep breaths. “Don’t think you can play with me while you have a girlfriend.”
“Girlfriend?”
Nina rolled her eyes before she noticed Guenzy and a couple other players. Gesturing towards them, she moved away from Sidney.
Jake grinned as he said, “Hi Nina. Fancy seeing you here.”
“I was here for a girls night out before this person decided he had to talk to me. He’s a bit drunk, make sure you get him out of here before anything happens to him,” Nina replied.
“I’m not drunk,” Sidney protested as Jake dragged him away.
Nina fluttered her fingers at him as Karesha came over.
“You just turned down Sidney Fucking Crosby? He’s not my type but I would make an exception for him. He’s looking good, even with that gray.”
Nina exclaimed in mock-shock, “Karesha, you have a man and kids at home!”
“Doesn’t mean I can’t look. And I will look because I can.”
As Nina scrolled through her phone, Karesha continued, “Nina I knew growing up would have already fucked him.”
“I’m a professional now.”
“That man wants to fuck you into the bed and those ass and thighs say he can,” Karesha persisted. “Let me guess, you don’t want to ruin your work rep.”
“Yes and no,” Nina replied. She was getting closer to saying fuck it. At first, she was feeling strong, felt that she could do it. But the more she interacted with Sidney, seen him do the charity work, etc., the more Nina was losing the will to say no. Only time she got a break was the off-season but her dreams were still starring an all-time pro center more than anyone else.
“Then maybe you need to start thinking about looking for another job, girl, because then you can finally get fucked like you want without having to wonder about what will happen.”
Nina scoffed, “Naw..”
**
“So, I just wanna know when you gonna finally get me my Tanger jersey?”
Nina rolled her eyes as Jason, her little brother, pestered her again. Jason was the biggest Pittsburgh sports fan in the whole family and ever since she started working with the Pens, he’d been begging her for a Letang jersey. Not just a Letang jersey, but Jason wanted a game-worn, autographed jersey. It didn’t matter that Dad had bought Jason an authentic jersey last year. He wanted a game-worn jersey.
She replied, “You know I don’t work with the team like that,” as she stirred the spaghetti. Her mother had to work an overnight shift so Nina had her little brother and sister stay with her in her Lower Lawrenceville apartment. It was a tiny place but Nina loved it. Right now, she was wishing she didn’t have Jason and Aryanna with her so she could think about her feelings about what happened a couple of weeks ago.
“Maybe I’ll get it for your birthday though,” Nina conceded. “If you keep your grades up.”
“Ninaaaa,” Jason whined.
“You know mom won’t let me get it for you if your grades are bad anyway.”
Jason explained, “I have to keep my grades up, I can’t play football if I don’t anyway. Plus, I’m trying to get invited to The Opening. Nina whistled, The Opening was an elite football camp for college juniors: kids who get in usually got to go to their pick of universities for college football.
“Good luck with that,” Nina commented as Terrible Tess jumped into Jason’s lap. That reminded her of how Terrible Tess tried to claw her date a week ago.
Aryanna piped up, “Maybe you should become friends with the pens, Ni-ni.”
Jason snickered and rolled his eyes while Nina explained, “I don’t work with the team like that, Ari.”
Aryanna pouted. “I want to tell all my friends that you know the penguins. They don’t believe me that you work with the team.”
“Like Nina cares about what a bunch of little kids think,” Jason jibed.
Before Nina could reprimand her brother, the door to her apartment opened. “Mom, you’re done early.”
“No. I got back early from my trip.”
“DADDY,” screamed Aryanna as their father came into the kitchen. Nina smiled and gave her dad a hug while Jason gave him a pound.
Vernon replied,”Hi Yanni and Ni-ni. How are my sweet tarts? And how are you doing, little man?”
“Nina still hasn’t got me my Tánger Jersey, Dad,” Jason complained.
“I may not be working there that much longer,” Nina absentmindly replied as she turned off the warmer for the pasta.
“WHAT?!?,” Nina’s father, brother, and sister all exclaimed at the same time.
“I’m thinking of maybe going somewhere else. It’s been almost three years.”
Jason groaned, “I’m never getting my Tanger jersey!”
“Are you sure, sweet tart,” Vernon asked, taking off his jacket.
Nina bit her lip as she nodded at her daddy. Her parents had worked hard after having her in their early twenties so she could achieve her dreams. Vernon was a long haul trucker while Tracey worked as a RN. Nina was the first one to go and graduate a four-year university. Vernon gave Nina a look and nodded.
“Anyway, let’s eat while I tell y’all what I saw on the road this time,” Vernon said as Jason went to grab plates. Nina gave her dad a grateful smile but she knew that he would want to talk about it.
**
“Who did you go out with last night?”
Just like a man to barge into her room, asking questions. Nina kept her eyes down on the chart she was updating as she replied, “Good morning, Mr. Crosby. How are you?”
Sidney moved to where he was in front of her desk, putting his hands on it but averting his eyes from her paperwork. “Who were you with last night?”
“Is that any of your business?”
Nina calmly closed the chart and stared coldly into Sidney’s eyes. “Do you have a reason to visit me this morning, Mr. Crosby?”
Sidney growled and Nina was thankful that he at least had the brains to close the door before having his tantrum. “Who was that guy you were with last night?”
“Oh?”
Sidney blinked, running a hand through his hair. “Was he you boyfriend?”
“Hmm a boyfriend, you know when a girl likes a boy and they go out together and become a couple,” Nina sarcastically answered. “Kinda like you and your on and off girlfriend.”
“Kathy isn’t part of this conversation.”
Sidney glowered at Nina. Geno mentioned he had seen Nina out on a date at a Russian restaurant he frequented often with Anna. There had been this guy Ron but he hadn’t lasted long. Now, there was a new one and Sidney was annoyed and pissed.
“Why so angry, Mr. Crosby? Am I supposed to be single forever and pining for you because we can’t be together?”
Before Sid could answer that, Nina continued, “I don’t know if you have spies on me or something, but if you had asked nicely instead of bursting into my office, I would have told you that I went out with my father last night.”
Sidney felt sick to his stomach as Nina glared at him. Nina was irritated as hell; it seemed like everyone here knew what she was going and what she was doing and now, that was confirmed.
Last night, Nina and Vernon had a father-daughter dinner at a hole in the wall Russian restaurant. Over blini and borscht, Nina gave her father a general explanation of what she had been thinking about with work and maybe going to work somewhere else. Vernon listened to his daughter with interest as she explained her plans. Her father had simply said, “Maybe wait until you have all your plans figured out before you put your resume out there.”
Right now, as Sidney talked, Nina tuned him out. Once there was a break, she said, “ You can go now,” before turning her back

I Must Be Stupid
El Phantasmo x Female Reader Requested Prompts: can we get a fluff and angst with elp, maybe a hint of jealousy, can reader also be a wrestler pls 🙏🏽, maybe you work for a company that’s far away from elp and you’re in a story line that with a wrestler (any promotion and wrestler) and he gets jealous, and you guys argue next time you guys see each other, i hope that makes sense! Rating: PG-13 Word Count: 1545 Warnings: Fluff, angst and well, jealousy. Summary: ELP isn't a fan of your storyline with LA Knight. A/N: Y'all really wanna see this lanky fuck being jealous, huh. First time writing Phanta, hope I did him justice. Also, this is the song I mention in the fic.
Riley and I met years ago, when we were both starving upcoming wrestlers on the indies.
I remember the day we met perfectly. I sat backstage on Defiant’s first ever episode of Loaded, talking to Walter, one of my best friends and trainer, when he arrived. Loud and obnoxious, the first thing he said to me was “Wanna be my baby momma?”
Of course it left me fuming, leaving poor Walter with the job of calming me down. The highlight of that night was seeing him getting his ass handed to him by Ridgeway and Walter.
God, how I loathed him.
Our paths crossed several times after that, all over the world. He apologised to me on our second encounter, mentioning how he gets weird around new people, how he loses his filter when he’s nervous, and how he was not so happy about getting chopped by Walter. We shook it off and started anew.
Turns out he was the coolest guy ever. Funny, quick witted and yeah, still very much annoying, but also very respectful and did everything to make me feel comfortable. Our friendship grew, we would share hotel rooms and ride together if we got booked on the same promotions, share meals and even train.
ELP asked me out after his deathmatch with Schadenfreude against Team Fight Club PRO. It was a sight I would never forget: a beaten, blood soaked and with thumbtacks stuck everywhere Riley stood before me, right after the gorilla’s entrance, with a dead look on his eyes and said “Do you wanna go on a date with me?” to which I could only nod, and got a “not today though. Today I’m a little… meh.” back.
He was so out of it that I had to grab him from his dressing room so we could head back to the hotel. The drive was made in silence, except from the occasional wince from him and a mumbled “I’m sorry” from me.
We ordered room service and shared a bed that night (since the hotel booked it wrongly), he said he meant the “date thing” as he hugged me while we watched some old rerun of Geordie Shore.
To me, that was our first date. He refuses to accept it, and says it happened a few days later, when he took me out for a picnic and a ride on the London Eye. Either way, both days were incredible in their own way.
See, everyday with him is incredible. Riley is attentive, we communicate well and he’s, surprisingly, an empath. We never fight, and when something bothers us, we sit down and talk it out.
So when I told him that I got an NXT contract, it was a week full of celebrations.
I was terrified of how it would go, with the fact that we would barely see each other and how we would handle it.
He reassured me daily that things would stay the same, that we had the means to talk daily and that we would visit each other whenever we had the time.
And it did stay the same. We had daily FaceTime calls, sometimes more than one, he would come over when he was in the US, I went to Canada when I had some free time and so on. Things got a little harder after he got in on the Bullet Club, the time zone was a little tricky, but nothing that bothered us.
Both of our careers have been going amazing. ELP is now a junior tag team champion, I’m in a storyline with LA Knight where I’m his manager, and I still get to wrestle (I’m the #1 contender for the NXT Women’s Championship, by the way!).
LA is the best co-worker I could ask for. He’s an incredible wrestler and an even better talker, which makes my job so much easier. Our on screen relationship is rather… ambiguous, we like to play around, leaving it open to the public to decide if it’s strictly business or if there’s something more.
Of course, it is all a play, as the both of us are in loving relationships.
As of right now, I’m on an early flight back to Canada. Last night I got involved in LA’s match against Thatcher, which earned me a sprained wrist and a broken nose for him. Hunter took pity on us, and knowing our work ethic, he gave us a week off, just to let us cool down. And since Riley just got home from Japan, I decided to surprise him.
I knock on his door with his favourite Tim Horton’s order in hand.
Riley opens it and says “Hey.”
Hey. Just hey. He usually tackles me down and takes me straight to the bedroom.
“Surprise?”
He looks at me like he has never had before, with what feels like disappointment in his eyes, and when I tried to kiss him, he turned away and sighed. My lips landed on his cheek.
“Riley, what’s going on?” I asked, worried.
“Nothing.”
“Nothing? Riley, there’s definitely something going on for you to act all weird with me. Talk to me. Please.”
He sighed again, looking down to his feet. The hold he had on the back of his living room chair was so hard, it turned his knuckles white.
“What is going on between you and Knight?”
My first reaction was to laugh. His face got darker and darker as I laughed.
“Are you serious?” The look he gave me said he was dead serious.
“There is nothing going on between LA and I–“
“I don’t know, you two look so cozy together.” he cut me off. I could feel the sarcasm dripping off his voice.
I should have known something was going on in his mind. Ever since the storyline started, Riley had gotten a little off. He never asked about how work was going anymore, and when I started talking about it, he would change the subject completely.
“I am doing my JOB, P. What the fuck?!”
“You sure look very happy doing it.”
“I don’t know what you are trying to insinuate, but I have nothing with him.”
It was his turn to laugh. He ran his hands on his head, making his unruly hair even messier. I cut him off when he started talking again.
“Do you think I like seeing you with Pieter on your lap all the time? No! But I know that’s your job and I trust you and I trust her! I know you and the guys go out all the time in Japan, should I throw a fit every time? Should I be suspicious of anything?”
”Baby, I’m–“ he tried to hold my hand and I stepped away.
“Do you think that if I had anything with him, I would have hopped on the first flight here to be with you? You know what? This was a mistake, I’m leaving.” I sat the Tim Hortons’ bag on his coffee table and grabbed my suitcase. “It’s your favourite, hope you have a nice breakfast.”
I called an Uber and went straight to the nearest hotel. I spent the whole ride trying to hold my tears, finally letting them fall when I got to my room.
I can’t even begin to understand what happened. We have never fought, Riley was always so understanding, what has gotten to him?
I fell asleep crying.
A few hours later, I woke up with a heavy thud on my bedroom door, and the faint sound of someone singing
“Soy un perdedor, I'm a loser, baby, so why don't you kill me?”. I knew that voice anywhere. We would sing that song to each other whenever we fucked up.
When I opened the door, P sat by it on the floor, with a bouquet of all of my favourite flowers.
“I’m so sorry, babe.” he said, looking up at me.
“How did you know I was here?”
“Tama.”
“Of course.” Tama had called me when I was still inside the Uber. He started talking about a bunch of things at the same time, his way of persuading people into spilling things out. “Get inside.” I told Riley as I left the door opened and went further into the room.
I could hear him quickly getting up and closing the door. He hugged me from behind, making me stop in the middle of the corridor. Holding me tightly, he kissed my head and went down to my neck and shoulder, repeatedly whispering “I’m sorry” between kisses.
We stood like that for a couple of minutes, silence eventually falling between us.
I grabbed the hand that held my waist and turned him around.
“Next time, we talk about it like we always did.”
“Okay, yes… yes. Again, I’m sorry. I don’t know what went on in my head.”
“It’s fine, just don’t question my loyalty and my love for you again.
“I won’t, I love you.” he hugged me again, this time resting his forehead on mine.
“Love you too.”
“Sooo, this is a really nice bedroom, huh?” he said, looking around. “The bed looks really comfortable.”
“It really is. Wanna try it?”
“God yes.” he said, grabbing me by my waist and leading me to the bed.

Are AEW Planning a Second Show?
Tumblr media
Today, fan demand was answered with the announcement that Eddie Kingston - followintg his great TNT title match and pre-match promo with Cody - has been signed to AEW. Between this, Matt Cardona’s signing and the Deadly Draw inviting more women, AEW’s roster is getting big, even in the time of COVID. But it’s getting a little crowded now, so are AEW planning a second show already?
Roster Bloat or a Bigger Crowd? AEW already sported some fantastic roster members, sadly COVID had prevented travel for many such as Bea Priestley, Yuka Sakazaki, CIMA, Riho, PAC and more, we’ve also had QT Marshall sidelined by COVID. But even then AEW have had some struggles with utilizing all their roster, the tag teams particularly. Lucha Bros, Santana and Ortiz and TH2 are all wildly talented tag teams that sadly have had less exposure as of recent, the latter barely any TV time in almost a year. The same can be said for Luther, the Gunn Club, Sonny Kiss, Preston Vance and Joey Janela who struggle to make it on the card, and Sadie Gibbs whose ill-fated debut had led her to disappear entirely. Suffice to say, AEW’s roster is getting too big for Dynamite to cater them alone, but yet AEW still sign more people, and are encouraged to sign others still (I for one think they cannot pass up Will Hobbs, Shawn Dean, Serpentico, Ivelisse, Jamie Hayter, Pillman Jr and Pineapple Pete), especially for the Women’s division, so with that in mind it would make sense for AEW to expand their roster and perform a show Mitosis, either that or two things is happening: AEW is expecting departures or they’re losing their minds a little with the recruitment. Of the three I doubt the latter is the case. Light in the Dark A while back it was reported that AEW were prepping Youtube show’s Dark to be a televised show, which could also be a part of the splitting, being able to throw in title matches to draw while also expanding the undercard. But then that leads to the worry of what the Independent Wrestlers who AEW have done well to expose and finance during COVID would stand, the likes of Serpentico, Hobbs and Pineapple Pete if unsigned will sadly not show up on AEW either. This is all of course speculation, unless AEW move their ‘TV Dark’ to be a separate show and keep the Youtube show for the Indy talent and undercard, similar to how NJPW is currently using the show Lion’s Break Collision to expose their Young Lions (btw Gabriel Kidd is great you should check out his WCPW/Defiant work, of course Filthy Tom Lawlor, Jeff Cobb, Clark Connors and Karl Fredricks are fantastic too). This would be a decent move, but then you’d have to rename one of the shows, there also lies another struggle. Building a Glass Cannon While at the Roster AEW are bulking up, they are still missing the bulking in some other areas if they’re gonna expand to 2 shows. The Women’s Division of course needs more, the Deadly Draw will hopefully aid to that with hopeful additions of NWA’s Thunder Rosa, Ivelisse and Diamante being official, Jamie Hayter, TJPW’s Maki Itoh (and by extension her tag partner DDT Universal Champion Chris Brookes), Lana Austin, Laura Di Matteo, Millie McKenzie, Cris Cyborg (she has been teasing a Wrestling career for a while), Session Moth Martina, Taya Valkyrie and Priscilla Kelly to really stack the division for the return of Bea, Britt, Statlander, Kong, Sakura and Yuka. The other department AEW need to focus a little on though is management; as documented on BTE, tapings for Dark go beyond midnight, there’s definite risk of burnout from the EVPs so it will be important to not thin them any further and have people who can share the load, for commentary that can involve using Goldenboy a lot more and giving Brandon (and Leva, she seems to be doing a fair bit behind the scenes) a bit of help. Opportunity Calling? AEW seem to hybrid their product on sticking with some traditional NWA-esque formats in shows combined with modernized layered storytelling, the former can be seen in its ‘Big Four’ PPV system (All Out, Double or Nothing, Revolution and Full Gear?) with other named shows being specials like Fyter Fest, Fight for the Fallen and Bash at the Beach. With a 2 TV show format though there bodes the question if the Championship hierarchy will expand. WWE of course have a lot of titles, but due to little attention to storyline sometimes the titles become less prestigious over time like a rollercoaster, which is something AEW could easily fall into too. That being said, AEW have flirted with the ideas of Mixed Tag and 6-Man titles, especially with the latter given the expansion of trio stables before COVID (Jurassic Express, Dark Order, Death Triangle, Inner Circle, the Elite, FTR & Hangman, Best Friends, SCU, Nightmare Family etc.). AEW seem to have the same track as NXT and NJPW when it comes to stables, and a 2-show format can easily open the door to these kind of titles while giving more room for the TNT and Women’s title to surface as well - as well as Women’s tag if the Deadly Draw is leading to it, though I would prefer the tag division to simply be mixed...I can see why Brandi and Khan has some reservations over that though. This may also expand the platform for the FTW title, if AEW officialize it, build other challengers for the TNT, Tag and World title, and do some more promos, frankly I feel like AEW’s missing a beat by leaving out all its package promos it used to do in the build to dynamite, even the Road to series have gotten shorter mainly out of time constraints. A Ratings Arms Race Should AEW decide to do 2 shows and successfully hold it down, it would be interesting to see how their rivals respond. WWE have not been subtle about throwing together special shows and throwing some Main Roster fan-favourites on NXT to compete with AEW. I do not mind this of course, the Wednesday Night Wars has invited both brands to up their game, thanks to that we have great wrestling and stars like Dexter Lumis who have gotten over because they were allowed to reach for the brass ring. I only mention this because if AEW gets 2 shows it can be seen as AEW stepping up, which’ll have to cause NXT to deliberate if they can do the same and potentially expand their focus on other wrestlers or do a better job with NXT UK. Conclusion Of course, I don’t have answers, but with the men’s midcard being stacked and talent at risk of squandering, many arrows point towards AEW possibly pushing for another show by next year. Through the analysis I’ve given if this is done well, this could be very good for wrestling as a whole, more good wrestlers getting good wrestling platforms without being squandered, but there is still a lot of work to do and AEW need to keep a level head about this - which is hard when you’re on a high, the alternative is to finally wear down NJPW and possibly break bread with ROH or Impact like they seem to have done with NWA to spread their roster when they’re not being used. Or we can have a bit of both, in the end COVID has left the indy market sparse and AEW have done their best to provide a platform for others, and that has pushed them to expand, once COVID has subsided and more people adhere to the common practice of wearing masks and basic levels of hygiene, it’ll be down to AEW to see what steps they take when their roster is fully accessible to them.

Some people are born Bosses. Others have Bossness thrust upon them. Sasha Banks is the former. An independent wrestler out of Boston, Banks worked her way through various promotions before finally getting a foot in the door in WWE NXT. Eventually, the quiet but talented young woman found her voice, and The Boss was born. Since then, Banks hasn’t looked back for a second, though she turned plenty of heads throughout her astounding rise to dominance as one of Full Sail’s “Four Horsewomen.” The trailblazing continued past NXT when Banks helped usher in a new era of competition on the Raw roster during the Women’s Evolution of 2015. Since then, the ultra-confident Banks has made history at every turn, competing in the first-ever Women’s WWE Iron Man, Hell in a Cell, Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber Matches, all while capturing multiple Raw Women’s Titles and teaming with Bayley to become the first WWE Women's Tag Team Champions. Banks and Bayley lost the WWE Women's Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania 35, and The Boss disappeared for several months, but she came back more ruthless than ever that summer. On her first night back, Sasha savagely attacked Natalya, who was paying tribute to her late father, then set her sights on Becky Lynch and the Raw Women's Championship. The Boss and The Man immediately became embroiled in a heated rivalry, resulting in wild brawls on a near-weekly basis. And after being selected by SmackDown in the 2019 WWE Draft, Banks reformed her alliance with Bayley, and the two defiant Superstars immediately touted themselves as the locker room leaders on the blue brand. Refusing to be looked over or set aside, Sasha has proven time and again that she runs the roost in the Women’s division. Just like a — well, you know. Sasha Banks (c) WWE Art (c) reneg661

NSFW #12: Oil and Water
On paper, Hardcore Revolution had been a success. NSFW had walked in as Tag Team champions and even after the challengers fought with everything they had, NSFW had walked out as Tag Team champions. Mike and Bishop shared stoic, defiant expressions as they backed up the entrance ramp - making a hasty exit from the public eye. They retreated to the recesses of the Rupp Arena, witnessed wordlessly the chaos of the following match, dressed into their street clothes, and departed. Ace Heart and an accompanying cameraman caught them for a website exclusive before their departure midshow. Church had just slung both of their bags into Alundra’s trunk as Mike sat in the driver’s seat with the powerful engine idling. The experienced interviewer tried his luck - hoping that months of radio silence between them had mended previously bad exchanges. “NSFW.” Church closed the trunk and looked up blankly at him - then strode over to the passenger’s side. “A word about your successful title defense.” He opened the door. “What’s next?” The big man dipped down under the frame of the door as he stepped into the car. He slammed the car door shut emphatically. Ace moved to the driver’s side and tapped on the glass. “Lots of speculation on your change of behavior as of late. Any comment?” The window came down. Not a lot. Just a little bit. Ace was met with an emerald death glare that he was probably incredibly familiar with by now. “It’d be obvious to anybody who didn’t eat fucking paint chips as a child. If I ran you over right now, you’d probably be pretty goddamn leery around cars for a while after, wouldn’t you? … Nevermind, fucking metaphorical shit is probably lost on you. As for tonight? We told them. We told them not to goof off. We told them to take us seriously and they didn’t fucking do it. Excuse us for being a tad insulted.” John interjected. “Not to say that our opponents didn’t put on a valiant effort. I commend them. And maybe...” He paused. “This is an ugly business.” His gaze was direct at this man. A fellow employee who he could never get on the same page with despite being amicable with most everyone else. “And maybe beyond all of this...” Another pause. “Mike. Let’s just go.” “Before you go. There are some that say that you two have changed for the worse since winning those titles. Anything to say to that?” Mike’s return glare somehow grew icier, harsher. Her voice sounded not only annoyed, but exhausted. “Heart. I don’t know if you’ve been watching the fucking news, but there’s more important things going on than continuing to lose fucking brain cells talking to you. Church’s right. We’re going home.” The window was rolled back up, and Ace Heart gave a startled jump backwards as Alundra sped off without any further warning. Their community had been grievously wounded that weekend. That with the rampant speculation about the two’s temperament had waned interest in the business and everything that encompassed it. They drove back home and that Tuesday morning - they stood with their neighbors in a vigil to mourn the losses of eleven innocent souls. But after that, there was Japan. Sixteen hours - cross country and then across the Pacific ocean. International travel had not been uncommon for them but with what was slated for them in Tokyo the following Monday, there was a trepidation for just what they were walking into. They would be visiting the island country for two weeks and there was plenty to do, and Mike had amassed quite a list of extracurriculars- cute and sugary and fun things, but also, and perhaps a little out of character for them, quiet and spiritual sorts of things as well. To that end, they decided when looking over places to stay to choose a beautiful ryokan, or hot spring inn, about an hour and a half outside of the city of Tokyo proper. The ryokan was just as stunning as advertised- their room was a very appealing blend of modern and traditional Japanese decorating, and there was a private balcony with a table, two chairs, and their own private onsen- a traditional open air hot spring bath that steamed invitingly in the cool evening air. Beyond the balcony was a view of Mt. Fuji that they both found absolutely breathtaking. Their trusty camera clicked on to the sight of two of them standing out on that balcony, leaning with their backs against the wooden railing, the awe-inspiring mountain clearly visible behind them. They appeared well rested, having slept off any jet lag, and perhaps a bit more at ease than in past weeks. Their title belts rested comfortably in their rightful places over their shoulders. “Context.” John stepped aside - allowing the camera to take in more of the long dormant volcano. “In World War II, this mountain was used as a symbol to evoke nationalism for the Japanese war effort. Meanwhile, the United States used the very same mountain to demoralize those very same soldiers via propaganda. The mountain never changed. It has always stood just behind us. A symbol of this country’s spiritualism. Mike and I. We are that mountain. People will use and twist who we are into whatever they wish. Always ignoring the context. Never asking why. Forgetting that we've never changed.” “Some of the old folklore around here even paints the mountain as a god. Are we gods? Nah. Not far’s I know anyway. We ain’t gods or devils or any other extreme fuckin’ stereotype. What we are is something way more… nuanced?” She glanced up at her partner, who gave her a smile and a nod. Mike held back the urge to give herself a congratulatory small fistpump. “Nuanced. Or in another word, human. I said what feels like a billion fuckin’ years ago, we don’t fit into anybody’s boxes. So if people think we should be acting one way, and we act another, is the problem ours? Or theirs?” John shrugged. “Doesn’t matter to us. Let’s pick up an old thread. We successfully defended our tag team championships against two people that we do consider to be our friends. However. We’ve considered a lot of people to be our friends lately. Including one of our upcoming opponents. Mike and I spoke a lot about it. I think there are some misunderstandings. And maybe we read into things that just weren’t there. But we saw what we saw. And even with that, we fought with honor. And so did they. One day, those two will come back and be ready for another try and maybe they’ll think back to all of this as a learning experience.” “I hope so. They could really be something awesome if they just took some shit seriously. But that was Monday. And now we get to fight a great foe and a rotten fucking friend. Now, we’re not gonna spend a lot of time crying over the obvious. Everybody who wasn’t hiding under a goddamn rock knows what Sanders did. Shouldn't take a Psych major to guess how we feel about it. As for Garcia, this isn’t the first time we’ve gone around the rosey with him.” Mike leaned forward, one brow raising in what could almost be some minute degree of concern. “Hey Cherrypie, you sure you wanna trust this guy? I’d advise against it if I were you, because shit, even you are a better fucking caliber of person than he is. I mean he’s flopping in the raw sewage with the likes of the blonde walking fungus, you sure you want that splattered all over your nice fucking suit? You’ll never get the stench out.” “Why bother?” He looked at Mike and shook his head. “Why bother to rationalize with someone who has closed their eyes to the world? Incapable of grasping any sense of reality. These are the sort of people that Dominic Sanders surrounds himself with. Because except for that shining accomplishment in New York, Dominic’s time here has been wrought with …” John steadied his hand in front of him and tipped it back and forth as if it balanced on a fulcrum. “Inconsistencies. For every accomplishment, there were two pitfalls. For every defining victory over long time rivals or championship boons, there were stunning defeats. Falling to Griffin Hawkins shouldn’t have been the catalyst to orchestrate some charade to manipulate his way into his greatest opportunity. And instead of embracing that chance as a way to finally shine, he shows his true face. Callous. Apathetic towards the people who have supported him through his farce. Surrounding himself with like individuals. However - Dominic should ask himself what it means when he and five other people can’t defeat one, albeit very strong, man.” Mike tisked a bit. “Six guys against one biker. Now, I’ve seen some weird shit circling around Happy lately, and I have to come to the conclusion that either Happy is a magical biker- which would be DC Comics level of badass- or your little makeshift militia really fucking sucks. Or maybe it’s a little from column A and a lot from column B. I mean granted one of those guys was Jeff Noon, but still. Come on. If you were trying to make a meaningful impact it went over like a wet fart.” John raised an eyebrow at that statement but continued nonetheless. “But if you really think about it - it makes complete sense. Dominic Sanders surrounds himself with people that share his ideology. The Limit. A tag team that professes that they do not care about winning. Skirting around the fact that their only victories come from cheapshots against opponents who win less than they do. A team that since trying to use NSFW as a statement - has been violently mediocre until they decided to go to the well once more. Didn’t work the first time - so why try again?” Rhetorical. “Draco Lazarus - a wrestling prodigy so consumed with himself that his proclamations of greatness would be funny if he wasn’t dead serious. Used to be a leader of his own gang of misfits until even they had enough and moved on. Now he’s a follower. And despite these new alliances, he failed to live up to his namesake once again.” He looked to Mike. “And what about Rob Garcia?” “What to say about sweet Cherrypie that we haven’t already said? I know. He somehow stumbled into the tag team championships while being the worst tag partner in the whole wide world. I mean, he was kind of the low man in the entire ReVenant outfit, and once they all skipped town without him he wasn’t able to keep a consistent tag partner after everyone realized what a spoiled, stupid goober he was.” “To be fair, Morgan Darkwater wasn’t the paragon of virtue that we all thought he was.” “Disappointing. But what do you expect from a fucking… pirate? Mercenary? Eh, I think you call that a privateer. Either way, it don’t matter, cuz he’s fucking gone-zo. Sailed off into the sunset, left Garcia all alone yet again, without any titles, real or imagined, to keep his poor sad self company.” “Dominic has assembled this motley crew with designs of molding this company into his image. And in their first cumulative outing - they fail. Typical. And now he, mere weeks away from what he hopes to be the greatest night of his career, looks to use us as an example of his mettle. With Rob Garcia as his charge. What could go wrong?” “Dumbinic Sanders…” John stifled a chuckle. “Dominic, you mean.” “Not if this is his fuckin’ plan I don’t. This is like one of those movies that opens in a shocking manner and gets you all on edge and then just drizzles a promising plot down its own leg like baby diarrhea. Still… even though he’s proven really fucking incompetent as a squad leader and is coming at us with a dude who not only has never pinned us but has all the mental sharpness of cream cheese left out on the counter overnight, we’re not going to make the mistake of underestimating you two. After all, one of you is a Rumble winner and the other is actually really decent if and when he gets a fire under his rich-boy ass.” John affirmed that with a slight nod. “But you two are facing the standard bearer of this company’s tag team division. And that doesn’t mean we are infallible. It means that we faced adversity head on and learned from our shortcomings. After NSFW was defeated by two world class competitors representing the Trinity, what did we do? We came back and captured a victory against the tag team champions at the time. Putting the world on notice. And by the way, where is the Trinity now to forsake our claim?” Mike gave a very exaggerated sorrowful look, wiping away an imaginary tear. “Looks like poor Xavier’s become a doorstop baby.” “And when Mucho Grande went through us to claim a shot at these titles, what did we do? We fought through every team we could until we rectified that wrong. And where is Mucho Grande to dispute our credibility?” The redhead stood up ramrod straight, crossing her arms across her chest like a coffin-bound corpse. “Mucho Muerte.” “That’s right. Despite all of that grandstanding, when push came to shove, they didn’t have the fortitude to backup all of that machismo. NSFW is the constant and Dominic Sanders and Rob Garcia are oil and water. Their only commonality is that they neither of them can get it done as a tag team. Rob Garcia’s last venture went belly up after never winning a match. Dominic Sanders idea of partnership is throwing a fit and attacking Kendrick Kross. After losing to Rob Garcia ironically.” “...what a weiner. What did we ever see in that guy?” John stared at Mike blankly. The cog wheels were turning to find one, single, solitary reason. “Gil.” Mike grinned fondly in spite of herself. “Yeah, yeah you’re probably right.” “But it was always there. Just under the surface. That charming smile a mask concealing his sinister motives. My first exposure to Dominic Sanders was him slamming a steel chair into my back repeatedly. Much like our meeting with Rob Garcia. So understand that Mike and I have not forgotten that.” “Everything you’ve done is gonna boomerang right back in your stupid smug face. You’ve hurt a lot of people in a lot of different ways, Dom. The bill’s coming due and it’s payable in blood, bruises, and busted teeth. Now, we aren’t stupid. We know this won’t be a fair fight- the moment things start getting hairy, you’re gonna call in the gilded turd and your rabid animals. And maybe Jeff Noon for some reason. Maybe we’ll have backup if that happens. Maybe…” Mike let a puff of a sigh out. “...maybe we won’t, and if we don’t, I guess that’s alright.” “We’ll deal with what comes. Together. They’ll bring ugliness and hatred. They’ll try to tear us down and Mike? They’ll fail. Afterwards, Rob Garcia can go back to his clueless world of luxury. Dominic Sanders after the realization that he isn’t as good as he thinks he is can go lapse back into his grizzly misogyny - demeaning a woman who has achieved more than he could ever hope to do. Tired tropes. Little girl. Whore.” His eyes narrowed. And for the only time in this video, he addressed Sanders directly. “I only see one of those. You. A man who has debased himself in utter desperation. Relevance fleeting, you turned to cruelty and malice to get what you want. And on that night. That very special night, you’ll fall short. Re-evaluate your expectations. Monday will be a preview of that very outcome.” “You’re not gonna win, cuz we ain’t like the others. We ain’t going away. No Skipping, Faltering, or Washing out. I hope you realize the fucking hornet’s nest you just kicked. Till Monday. Sayonara, chumps.” They both gave a brief wave. Stepping forward, Mike turned the camera off.

NXT UK 2/20/19 Review
This episode of NXT UK seemed like it lacked a real narrative outside of the main event. Even though we had a good match on the undercard, it just didn’t feel like it meant anything. Stories are important in wrestling, and if we aren’t getting any, then it devalues the product. However, this episode was still exciting in spite of that, and it wound up being an okay show.
We started the show out with a quick recap of the Rhea Ripley and Toni Storm feud, crowd seemed hot for the match, and I was certainly excited. However, we had to wait for it, as there was a tag match pitting Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster vs. The Coffey’s. This was a very clear strength vs speed matchup, and it had the appropriate amount of heel domination over the smaller faces. Joe Coffey is actually a surprisingly good submission wrestler, and it was especially impressive when he held Andrews in a Full Nelson facelock and swung him around. It seemed like the faces had it won, until Mark Coffey caught Andrews out of a suicide dive into a vertical suplex on the apron and Joe Coffey countered Webster’s swanton bomb. Joe then hit a battering ram on Webster in the corner, followed by the Best for the Bells, and the heels picked up the win.
Grade: C. The match never really seemed to pick up speed, and the methodical heels really didn’t help that matter much. Andrews and Webster are great at being underdogs, but that does not always make for a great match. The swerve at the end where the Coffey Brothers came from behind to win was the redeemer for this match.
Quick video package for Nina Samuels, a relatively new wrestler to the British indie scene, only debuting five years ago. She has won the Pro Wrestling EVE Championship once in the past, but I don’t know much of her work, so I am going to stay skeptical about her. Then we had a pre recorded promo from Jordan Devlin, who says that he is back in Ireland, and that he is not done with Travis Banks. This is definitely a feud that I am interested in, so I am glad that it is continuing. We also had a video package hyping up Kay Lee Ray as well, who I have heard of. She is prominent on the British Indie scene, winning titles in Defiant, ICW, WCPW and World of Sport Wrestling. I look forward to seeing how she is used in NXT UK.
Next up, a singles match between Trent Seven and Shane Thorne. The match was very rough, and unbelievably stiff. Thorne did a very good job of selling his vicious heel character. Seven’s arm was worked over throughout the match. Seven nailed several dragon suplexes and slams, it looked really great.Thornn was able to counter the seven star lariat into a ripcord knee, and then a popup german suplex for a great near fall. Thorne then locked in a sort of hammerlock, which Seven countered into the Seven Star Lariat for the win.
Grade: B-. The match started out very hot, and looked like it was going to go quite well, but it fell off a bit around the second half. The two worked well together, but the lack of a real story behind this hurt the match a bit, but it was still pretty entertaining.
Backstage, Jack Gallagher was interviewed about when his next appearence on NXT UK would be, to which he responded that he will talk to Johnny Saint about being added to the roster. Joseph Conners then had an interview about how he was supposed to be the gatekeeper of NXT UK, but he lost to El Ligero. Connors simply said that he had an off day, and that he is still very focused, and is only getting more vicious.
Grizzled Young Veterans then came out to discuss their challengers, Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch. Zack Gibson just hyped the team up, saying that they are the best tag team in the world, and their NXT UK Tag Team Championships proves that. Gibson then complained about how he had to compete in the World’s Collide tournament, saying that people should be coming to England to fight them, because they want to destroy them. They then called out the #1 contenders, saying that they wanted a proper talent. Lorcan and Burch came out to confront them, and delivered a pretty basic face promo. Burch said that the competition was incredible across all the brands in WWE. Burch and Lorcan decided that they want their championship match now, but the vets backed off and said that they can’t just go around and change matches.
Grade: B. I thought this promo made perfect sense coming from Gibson. In his eyes, he has already proved that he is at the top of his brand, and he feels that he doesn’t need to prove it with a tournament. The vets seem extremely pissed off that no one is giving them the same respect as other champions, and it makes sense. I have been excited for this match for a long time, and while the faces didn’t do much to enhance that, I think that the character building for the vets goes a long way.
Finally, the main event, pitting Toni Storm against Rhea Ripley for the NXT UK Women’s Championship. As they were being announced for the match, Ripley attacked Storm, and threw her to the ground, and immediately started with a disadvantage. Ripley kept delivering great, stiff shots all over the place, and Storm’s selling was on point. Ripley continued to gain the advantage with underhanded tactics, and exploiting the highly publicized back injury that plagued Storm last year. Ripley locked in her reverse cloverleaf, and it looked absolutely brutal. Storm countered with an array of suplexes and a backstabber. After a hard fought match, Toni Storm retained her championship after a Storm Zero.
Grade: B. The character work in this match was super good. Rhea Ripley is an awesome heel, and sold her frustration and desperation throughout the match. The way she worked over the champions back throughout the match was grueling to watch. Storm too did a great job selling, and coming from behind to get the victory. They both were delivering tough shots to one another, and they easily put on the match of the night.
The card next weeks looks ridiculously stacked, with Jack Gallagher debuting in a match against Tyler Bate, WALTER challenging Kassius Ohno, and the tag team championship match. Could easily be the best WWE event next week. And I am really looking forward to it.
Final Grade: C+.
Pros: NXT UK Women’s Championship match, Grizzled Young Vet’s promo, most of Thorne vs. Seven
Cons: opening tag match could’ve been better; lack of a cohesive feel to the stories.

Adrienne Levi Vs. Zane "Lab Rat" King/Backstage Segment
Author: Me
Terra Skye: Aw, that's sweet. Johnny Vegas: *Puke* Terra Skye: Oh whatever.. And it looks like we've got our next contenders for the Tag Titles, Trent Steel and Zephyr Quinn. An interesting team to be sure. Boy: FROZEN CHICKEN! Johnny Vegas: I'M NOT INTERESTED! Terra Skye: Well I AM! I think that's going to be a great match for the Tag Team Championships at We Are Relentless! Johnny Vegas: Alright...ANYWAY, what next? Oh. This loser again. You figure losing to Tits McGee and some painted up junkies would have taught her a lesson. Hey folks, sit back and watch the funeral of Adrienne Levi. Terra Skye: You’re the epitome of professionalism, Johnny. Johnny Vegas: Thanks, glad you finally noticed. Terra Skye: Right. So to follow up on that, Adrienne Levi continues her quest to become a star here and well, I don’t know how to describe this guy. The pictures don’t do him justice. This Lab Rat King? He looks to be chiseled out of stone. He’s a hulking behemoth and boy is he terrifying. Boy: BEEF! Kelly Carmichael: The following contest is scheduled for one fall! Already in the ring, from Clearwater, Florida, weighing in at 135 pounds, Adrienne Levi! The dark haired competitor acknowledges the camera briefly with a curt nod. Kelly Carmichael: And her opponent, making his CARNAGE WRESTLING debut, hailing from Parts Unknown, weighing in at 285 POUNDS, HERE is the LAB RAT KING ...ZANE ...KING!!! The screens display a flickering, static-struck screen with the crowned rat logo, bone-white over a black and red spattered background as the first swelling, synthetic hits of "Professional Griefers" begin playing; when the first heavy stomp of bass in the music strikes, the logo shudders and glitches, electricity running through it from left to right like a broken heartbeat. Below the screens the entrance is flooded with rolling fog cast in blood-red light and white strobe lights that match the beat of the song and of the electric shock waves on the screen. Terra Skye: This is certainly ominous. Johnny Vegas: I like this fella already ...WHOA! Look at this son of a bitch! The Lab Rat King stepped out onto the stage, shackled in collar and chains. He was accompanied by half a dozen security guards - nearly as big as he was but in no way as imposing. King seems nonplussed by his current predicament and instead slowly makes his way down to the ring - staring at Adrienne. His keepers stay with him as he stalks around the ring, his eyes never leaving his opponent. The guards removed his bonds and one who seemed to be in charge prodded LRK into the ring. He snarled briefly towards him and then turned his attention back towards the match. He rolled up and stood tall and erect, double- maybe triple- the size of Adrienne Levi. DING DING!! As soon as the bell rang, Adrienne Levi of all people charged right at the Lab Rat King and slammed a forearm into his chest. He stumbled backwards but didn’t fall. However, if Levi had designs on further offense, they were abruptly ended when she ran right into the right hand of Lab Rat King. At that point, Zane was screaming or gibbering to the point that it was incomprehensible but the message was received as he let out a guttural scream as he dead lifted the smaller opponent into the air and then back down with a vicious chokeslam. The referee was taken aback as Zane seemingly stalked Levi each time she tried to recover. Looming over her like a shadow, he followed her into the corner. Defiant, Levi pushed away. This only incensed LRK. Zane King: Little birrrrrrrrrd!! TIME TO FLY!!!! His eyes were wide open, full of intensity as he grabbed handfuls of her shirt and heaved Adrienne into the air. Her body didn’t hit the mat until it was across the entire fifteen foot length of the ring. Terra Skye: I don’t know what to think of King. We’ve certainly had giants before, but nobody like him. He doesn’t seem human. Johnny Vegas: Whoa whoa whoa, you want me to get HR on the horn? Terra Skye: Shut your mouth, old man. Boy: MEAT SLAPPING MASTODON. This match continued down an ugly path as King dragged Levi to the middle of the ring. It was moments later that King twisted and contorted the young woman, forcing her into his brutal STF submission he calls the Tranquilizer! The facelock wrenched her neck back and as an added insult, he seemingly pried his fingers into her face, trying to tear and rip into it like a rat would. Zane King: Sleeeeeeeeep!!!!! SLEEEEEEPPPPPPPPP!!! Sleeee---AUGGGGH~! The camera zoomed in as Adrienne’s teeth were dug into King’s fingers. That forced a release on the hold but it didn’t look much better for Levi. His reprisal was swift as he dropped an elbow onto her lower back. Soon, he lifted Adrienne in the air for what seemed an eternity. Out of desperation, Levi raked his eyes. She landed on her feet behind him. Seeing an opening, she kicks at the back of his knee. He dropped to that knee, howling in anguish. Adrienne shakes that off and then runs past him, opting to execute an offensive maneuver that hasn’t failed her yet. The crossbody!!! However, it fails her now as King catches her out of the air. If one could see the expression under his mask, he was seething. He twirls her around and absolutely flattens her on the mat with a body slam. Terra Skye: I almost thought she had him there. Johnny Vegas: You’re really milking this. This freak is tearing Levi apart. Say goodbye to this broad. Terra Skye: Did you not take your meds or something? You’re especially stupid tonight. The assault continues as King shoves her back into the corner, raining down blow after blow. Punches, kicks, shoulders as Adrienne looks to be losing the light in her eyes. King is almost hysterical. Zane King: GONNA PUT youuuuu out of your MISERRYYYY!! Whipping her out of the corner, the hulking beast charged in and took a boot bottom of the chin. He nearly tripped over himself from the impact but he stayed up right. He could be seen lifting up his mask slightly to spit out a wad of saliva and blood to the mat. He didn’t look happy as he turned his attention back to Adrienne. By this time, the young lady was perched on top of the turnbuckle. She leapt off … and again King caught her. Helpless in his clutch, she was slammed back first into the turnbuckle before being spun around right into EMPTY, HOLLOW, THUD. The jackknife spelled the end for this encounter as the referee counted the three when King put his boot on Levi’s throat. DING DING DING!! Kelly Carmichael: Here is your winner... via PINFALL, the LAB RAT KING, ZANE KING!! The referee sure wasn’t raising this guy’s hand. And he didn’t seem to care. The bell meant nothing. He went right back to brutalizing Levi. Forcing her to her feet, he shoves her into the ropes and as she rebounds, she is flung into the air. As Levi comes down, she shows some life on the way down, twisting and dropping King with a tornado DDT out of nowhere!! King was down and out momentarily but he was back on his feet quickly. In fact, he was back up and was pretty damn pissed. He was seething, rambling, as the mere notion of her fighting back. Five of the guards swarm him, looking to get that huge collar and chains back around him. He fought them off as if they were mere flies. King was mere inches to getting his hands back on Adrienne who had retreated to a corner - when the sixth guard stuck some type of pen right into the side of veiny neck. King responded by backhanding that guy right in the face, shattering his sunglasses and probably his nose. But that seemed to be something, because all of a sudden, he became rather slow and sluggish. This allowed for his handlers to collar him. Still struggling, he was led away. Levi stumbled forth into the middle of the ring as King still had plenty to say to her. The cameras quickly caught a relaxed expression. But that didn’t last as it turned to wide eyed terror and frenzy as he still managed to struggle against his captors. Terra Skye: Somebody want to tell me who the hell that guy was? We’re hiring literal fucking monsters now? That guy is going to kill somebody! Johnny Vegas: Good good, we gotta get rid of some of this dead weight around here. Terra Skye: Oh, fuck you Johnny. Let that fucker come at you and see how your reactions change...
BACKSTAGE: Don't Stop Believing in Me Adrienne Levi comes through the black curtain into the backstage area. The cameraman catches her struggle down the stairs, favoring the back of her head. Red marks are on her arms and legs and noticeably there is a boot print on her neck that surely discolor her skin in the next few days. She seems distraught after her encounter with the Lab Rat King. The eccentric interviewer Greg Ace is the first on the scene, nearly shoving a microphone in the young woman’s face. Greg Ace: Well, hello there. Greasy apples. Adrienne stops, her expression quizzical in nature. She hadn’t shared one word with this man and yet he seemed to be familiar with her. Greg Ace: Tough loss out there, Adrienne. You’ve yet to find your footing here at Carnage Wrestling. What do you think it will take to get to the next level? Welcome to the old time fun Jamboree! Adrienne Levi: Thanks, I guess. As for your question, if I knew that, I’d tell you. No offense to you but may I? She asks for the microphone and she gets it. Greg walks off and he may have possibly stated, “Jumbo sized cashews fresh off the rind!” Adrienne isn’t affected much by that. She’s sore, short of breath, and had just been in an encounter with the most monstrous man she had ever seen. Adrienne Levi: I don’t know what to tell you. I’m just not very good. And this isn’t a solicitation for your attention. I don’t need any pity, or any of your atta-girls. The summer has been amazing so far. And unlike others, I am not going to get discouraged. I’ll be here as long as you want me here. She paused, wiping away sweat or tears from her eyes but ultimately the anguish of that fight. Adrienne Levi: It was arrogant of me to think that I could make an impact that matters and I’m sorry - but I’ll keep trying. And I’ll face anyone you put before me. Championship caliber athletes, monsters, and everyone in between. Next time around, I've got a partner and I don't know why he picked me. I've got opponents who think I'm a joke. But if there is anything, one small thing that I can ask of you. And I don’t know how many of you there are. But if there is just one person out there that sees this and doesn’t immediately dismiss Adrienne Levi - then I ask you, don’t stop believing in me. Politely she sets the microphone down and limps off camera.

Wrestler Of The Year 2017 | Kay Lee Ray
As the year 2017 comes to an end the Squared Circle Sirens teams will be highlighting different wrestlers from across the globe that we feel have made an impact over the past 365 days! Today we will be looking at Kay Lee Ray!
She’s the hardcore daredevil, and a woman with her eyes (and hands) on the majority of the prizes wherever she goes. Kay Lee Ray has continued to impress and make waves everywhere and anywhere.
In 2017 alone, Kay Lee Ray has had over 100 matches ranging from two STARDOM tours, a set of SHIMMER tapings, and being a mainstay at SWE, Pro Wrestling Eve, ICW, and WCPW Among others, and put on a standout first round match in the Mae Young Classic.
Kay Lee Ray started out her year in STARDOM being in tag team matches with Nixon Newell and defending her ICW Women’s title over Jungle Kyona. Ray would go back over to Europe for a few months before being back at STARDOM in August for the Grand Prix where she picked up wins over Mandy Leon, Jungle Kyona, Tam Nakano and Konami.
Ray has also been a focus of the ICW women’s division holding the title through July before losing to Kasey Owens for the title, but capturing it right back in October defeating Owens before dropping the title again in a triple threat cage match back to Owens in a match also involving Viper.
Ray was also close to catching the Pro Wrestling EVE title that was vacated by Rhia O’Reilly defeating Toni Storm and Lana Austin to face Sammi Jayne in the finals of the tournament and coming up just short of capturing the title. Ray was also featured in the She-1 tournament.
In June, Ray captured the WCPW Women’s title, defeating Viper who was defending the title on behalf of Bea Priestley which has since been recognized as the Defiant Women’s title which Ray still holds.
Ray also became the 2017 SWE Queen of the ring, defeating Lana Austin, Toni Storm and Kasey Owens to win the tournament and capture the championship.
Ray also was a part of the Shimmer 92-94 tapings, having a match of the night contender against Mia Yim for the number one contender for the Shimmer title and almost defeated Mount Tessa to capture the tag titles. This lead up to Rays first round defeat against Princesa Sugehit which impressed many in a first round contest.
Kay Lee Ray has continued to show she is a top talent on the independent scene across the world, whether it’s in the UK, the U.S. or Japan, Ray has continued to impress and continued to be someone to watch especially in 2017, and 2018 looks to be no different.

Following the second annual Disco Derby back in March, Discovery Wrestling were scheduled to take a break until returning in October but they simply couldn’t wait any longer. As a result, they’re back in the Edinburgh Corn Exchange on Saturday afternoon for Camp Discovery, a show that looks like it will be a day to remember for the Discovery faithful. We’ve got championship matches, we’ve got debuts, we’ve got returns, and we’ve got two members of Bullet Club coming along too!
Tumblr media
Joe Hendry vs Rampage Brown
A mammoth singles match will see Joe Hendry taking on Rampage Brown in a battle between two of the UK’s very best unsigned talents. After defeating Timothy Thatcher in November in quite the technical contest, The Prestigious One has been the number one contender to Joe Coffey’s Y Division Championship, with The Iron King refusing to give Hendry his title opportunity until he sees fit. Coffey has stated that he wasn’t scheduled to defend his title again until the October anniversary show and will be living by that fact, which means he will indeed break Lewis Girvan’s record reign at 666 days. With that though, it left Joe Hendry without an opponent for Saturday’s show. Step forward Rampage Brown. The man from Leeds hasn’t been seen in Discovery since his participation in the first annual Hotter Than Hell Edinburgh Invitational Tournament back in 2017, where he had excellent contests with Dave Conrad, Mikey Whiplash, and eventual winner Aspen Faith. In the time since then, Rampage has been tearing it up all over the UK, which included an 11 month reign as the Defiant World Champion. If he’s able to get a pin over the #1 contender to the Y Division Championship, you’d have to imagine he would then also have a claim to be challenging for the gold.

Triple Threat Match for the Discovery Women’s Championship Emily Hayden vs Martina (c) vs Ashley Vega
The most recent Discovery event was the second Disco Derby, a night that saw Martina crowned the new Women’s Champion when she won the 2019 Disco Derby Match. Even though she’s more commonly known as a comedy performer, that match showed that The Session Moth can be a serious wrestler as well as she outlasted the likes of Debbie Keitel, Raven Creed, and defending champion Sammii Jayne to become the second Discovery Women’s Champion in history. Her first defence will see her defend the gold against two of the other competitors in that match, Emily Hayden and Ashley Vega. Both of those ladies have been making their names known around the rest of the UK throughout this year, with Hayden recently being fired from the Fierce Females roster after losing to Sammie Jo in an I Do Match whereas Vega has been making her presence felt in top promotions such as Pro Wrestling: EVE. A win for either of the challengers here would be huge for them – they just need to find their way past the antics of Martina.

Fatal Four Way Match for the WrestleZone Tri-Counties Championship The Sam Barbour Experience vs Jason Reed (c) vs Alexander Dean vs Fraser Thomas
Another multi-man title match will feature one return and three debuts, as Jason Reed comes back down to Edinburgh to put the WrestleZone Tri-Counties Championship on the line against The Sam Barbour Experience, Alexander Dean, and Fraser Thomas. Ever since this one was announced, all four competitors have been quite vocal on social media, namely Reed and Dean. For those who have been following Jason Reed in the last year or so, then you’ll be aware of his intentions to make wrestling great again, something that will be achieved when he defends another promotion’s title inside a Discovery ring. It could result in a new champion making their way up to the Northern Hotel on August 17th, especially given who the three challengers are. All of them are in with a chance of snatching the title out of Jason’s grasp – if we’ve learned anything from Jason though, he’s got a plan in mind for this one, perhaps with a new member of The Reed Cabinet being unveiled in the Edinburgh Corn Exchange.

The Anti-Fun Police (Chief Deputy Dunne & Los Federales Santos Jr.) vs The Kings of Catch (Aspen Faith vs Lewis Girvan)
This is my ultimate dream match – The Anti-Fun Police vs The Kings of Catch. The hater of all things funahhh vs the masters of the Apter Burner. What’s not to love? Chief Deputy Dunne made his Discovery debut back in March at the Disco Derby in a match also involving BT Gunn, Kid Fite, and Aspen Faith. Ever since then, Dunne has ensured he won’t rest until he shuts down all the fun being had by The Kings of Catch, and is even bringing in everyone’s favourite man to back him up, Los Federales Santos Jr. While they may be one of the UK’s premier tag teams, there’s no team better in Discovery than The Kings of Catch. Since coming together in the company, Aspen and Lewis have had classic battles with the likes of The Kings of the North and the team of Chris Brookes and Omari, while Lewis also teamed with Damien in another excellent bout with CCK earlier this year after Aspen suffered a minor injury. We’ll never get to see a proper Kings vs CCK bout due to the recent retirement of Kid Lykos but in my eyes, this could be equally as good. Sure, it probably won’t be the most ‘wrestling’ type match of the night if that makes sense, but you’re in for a good laugh when these four collide. Sometimes, that’s all you need from a match.

Angel Hayze vs Sammii Jayne
Now that she’s back from some time off due to a recent surgery, Sammii Jayne is out for revenge against of her protégés, Angel Hayze. With Sammii defending her Discovery Women’s Championship in the 15 woman Disco Derby Match (technically 14 since Nina Samuels never officially entered), she ended up being just the second person dumped out of the ring at the hands of Angel. Even though Hayze would be the next person eliminated by Ashley Vega, she still holds that fact over Sammii’s head. She may not have won the match, but she’s essentially responsible for the culmination of Sammii Jayne’s 483 day championship reign. Angel is really coming on leaps and bounds this year, with regular appearances up and down the country. She’s made a new home in Discovery throughout 2019, and what better way to leave a lasting impression than with a victory over one of the UK’s very best?

Bullet Club (El Phantasmo & HIKULEO) vs The Nine9 (Dickie Divers & Jack Morris)
When El Phantasmo and HIKULEO were confirmed for this show, I’m not sure many people would’ve predicted their opponents to be The Nine9. Dickie Divers and Jack Morris united in Discovery back in March as surprise opponents for Chris Renfrew and Michael Chase but outside of Edinburgh, they’ve become well acquainted with the fans at both ICW and Reckless Intent Wrestling, even going so far as to earn themselves an ICW Tag Team Championships match with The Kings of Catch at Shug’s Hoose Party 6. This is undoubtedly their biggest match as a team so far, and possibly even of their entire careers (certainly in Morris’ case). They could boost their careers into the stratosphere with a win over Phantasmo and HIKULEO.

Kieran Kelly vs Theo Doros
A change to the previously announced bout will now see Kieran Kelly go up against former House of Saynt member Theo Doros, with his original opponent Josh Terry now unable to make the show. These two are no stranger to each other within a Discovery ring, having faced off a few months ago in an Elimination Match alongside Christopher Saynt and Grant McIvor (who substituted for Damien). That match would see Kelly come out on top but that’s not all we’ve seen from both men in Discovery during the first half of 2019 – they were both part of the second Disco Derby show in March, with Kieran answering Joe Hendry’s open challenge in an unsuccessful effort while Theo went to a no contest with Christopher Saynt in a brutal Unsanctioned Match. Although Kelly vs Terry would have been a tantalising contest, Kelly vs Doros has all the potential to be an equally-as-great contest.
Although he hasn’t got an opponent confirmed at the time of writing, Discovery have announced that The Munndertaker will be back in action at the Corn Exchange following his victory over Martina back in January. Who will dare step up to challenge The Dead Munn?
Tickets in the first two rows have sold out, but general admission tickets are still available, priced £15 for adults, £10 for children, and £40 for a family of four. Doors at the Corn Exchange open at 2:15pm, with the action kicking off at 3pm. Don’t forget that following the show, you can head to the Opium at 8pm for a special live edition of The Joe Hendry Show and How To Become A Pro Wrestler, featuring the usual lineup alongside Discovery co-owner Alan Smith and a select few Discovery roster members to be announced. Tickets to that are priced at £10, or just £6 if you have your ticket stub from this show.
