A tangle of limbs in a nice Italian suit. #I have such fond memories of watching the Lupin III movies with friends. #Actually...It's really touching to be able to draw fanart for the series. A homage to a special memory. #Thank you for giving me this opportunity! Seeing your icon (Goemon) has been a true treat in my notifs this last year. #Yes I was a Lupin fan this whole time! I started with part 5 so I am not a particularly old fan. #(I had a little bonus comic to go with this of the rest of the crew but I ran out of time to polish it up...perhaps another day.) #For everyone else; I highly recommend watching 'A Women Named Fuijko Mine'. Mind the content warnings though. #It is very dark but a really *really* fantastic deconstruction on the femme fatale archetype. Not to mention visually stunning. #Castle of Cagliostro is a good recommendation if you want something more lighthearted. #And with that...raffle week has come to a close! Criticism towards that isekai maid webcomic are a lil silly with the way they say the author is exaggerating about how frequent maids get slapped by isekai-ed mcs when they're commenting on why the trope even exists in the first place when the mc comes from a time more informed about class and work dynamics and it's not the only trope addressed by the webcomic. Trying to make this seem like a exclusively english-speaking audience/westerner nitpicking when in-house maids are still a thing in Asia, immigration is a hell hole and xenophobia is rampant?? A commentary on the problematic themes in the rofan/isekai genre is suddenly too preacy but dozens of manhwa awarding its entitled narcissistic mcs are ok, groundbreaking even? Who's picking needles from haystacks here?

Is it just me or does every superhero “deconstruction” other than Invincible remove magic and aliens from the equation?

I finally checked out Strong Female Protagonist, and I was wondering what seemed off to me because it’s got good writing so far… and then it I realized that every superpowered person is basically a mutant like the X-Men.

Worm, The Boys, Watchmen, Powers… all of them omit magic and/or aliens, two CRUCIAL aspects of superhero worlds as defined by DC and Marvel!

And I think because it’s just too hard for most people to reconcile these inherently fantastical things with trying to do a “realistic” story.

I think if we’re gonna say that the superhero genre is filling the modern folk/fairytale niche, we can reject the question of “is this in character for established canon” but we need to replace it with “does this fit this character’s archetype in established canon”.

Like... Clever Jack who solves things by tricking people. The Fool who survives and saves the day by taking everything literally. The Maiden or Youth who is kind seemingly to their own detriment and that kindness is repaid later.

For any given hero, be it the specific character or the mantle, what archetype are they filling? What kind of hero are they supposed to be? What are their key traits? How do they solve problems?

There’s too much contradictory comics canon to actually nail down detailed continuity. But we can look at a given story and criticize it for shoving the characters into the wrong archetype.

Ultimately, it depends on the person. He has a lot of creative punishments he'd like to bestow onto all of his enemies, and he usually finds the means to do so.

For people who didn't work much with him, he usually presents an ultimatum. "Work with me to get those BLASTED nobodies off this earth, or learn how it feels to hurt with every single essence of yourself being ripped away from you!!" Is probably what he'd present them with

So basically its either live in ruin with Pizzahead or live in ruin with your humanity.

Throwing people in this scenario who worked closer with him or are associated closely with people who worked for him (or just Peppino and Gustavo.) Would basically just cross out the whole ultimatum deal in the first place

And I forgot to totally mention this, BUT!!!

Pizzahead has actually gotten his hands on somebody and it uh.... didn't work out super well for him.

things you only realise after reading quite a lot of comics:

comics of all kinds REALLY like to give thor full-body shots (even full pages) to pose dramatically, raise mjolnir over his head, and declare: "I AM THOR!!!" like, it's not in every single story, but it is consistent enough a pattern that you could actually call it a catchphrase. and it's just his name. god of ego unparalleled.

and with this context, the scene in t1 where thor haughtily announces "i am thor odinson" and laufey just says "we know who you are 😒" is actually quite funny. get him laufey
