well normally in Russia, the women take on the husbands name (not always tho) but never is it vice-versa, but if your story is like that, then that would be alright...if the woman chooses she can keep her original last name. maybe I'm just misunderstanding your question. But it makes more sense if you removed the 'a' but if you have your reasons then it's fine.
also, if ellums family is from the high-ups, in Russia, if u are a higher up, you will introduce yourself by ur (first)(patryonomic)(last). Patryonomic is basically a middle name, it's just the father's name. So if my name was Fyodor, and my father's was Alexander, my patryonomic would be along the lines of "alexandrovich" 'ovich' means son of. If I was a girl named 'daria' and my fathers name was Alexander, my patryonomic would be "Alexandrova" 'ova' means daughter of. It's off topic, but just thought I'd say it if you wanted to add more realism. So if ellums father is 'alexei' his full name would be 'Ellum Alexeyevich Dumin(a)).
im only learning Russian, but if I find something interesting relating to this, I'll tell u, also you could probably find some people on discord to run your story by, idk. Answer is a bit long, and off topic but I was excited to answer for some reason

Thanks to this reply and then a correction in the comments of the other ask you sent me, I gathered some REALLY helpful info, so thank you! I saw that it was grammatical, not related to who takes on whose name, so I hope to apply it to my story once I figure out the specifics of how it works. (VERY FRUSTRATING THOUGH BECAUSE I WANT THE ORIGINAL NAME FOR MY BOYS BANGS TABLE.)

Race to WTA Finals is Hotting Up with Two Weeks to Go
By Chris Oddo | @TheFanChild | Monday, October 10, 2022 The Race to the WTA Finals is heating up nicely, with just two weeks of pivotal tennis to be played before the Fort Worth field is determined. This week’s 500 in San Diego is already underway (as well as the 250 in Transylvania), with seven of the Top-10 in action, and next week’s 1000 event, the Guadalajara Open in Akron, should be even bigger, with 17 of the Top 20 entered in the field. This week’s Race sees Daria Kasatkina move up to No.6, while Veronika Kudermetova moves into the last qualification spot by leapfrogging Maria Sakkari – but the Russian only holds a slim 69 point advantage. Here are the current Race to Fort Worth standings, as of Monday October 10: Swiatek, 9865 (qualified) Jabeur, 4555 (qualified) Pegula, 3232 Gauff, 2983 Garcia, 2896 Kasatkina, 2885 Sabalenka 2871 Halep, 2661 (not playing) Kudermetova, 2606 ————————————— Sakkari, 2537 Bencic, 2360 Badosa, 2264 Keys, 2214 Kontaveit, 2093 Haddad Maia, 2050 Kvitova, 2038 Collins, 1997 Alexandrova, 1910 Ostapenko, 1882 Krejcikova, 1849 With so many points on the line over the next two weeks, it is impossible to count out any of the Top-20 in the race. A title in Guadalajara or even San Diego for that matter, could change the race dramatically. Originally published at Sacramento News Journal
