But it's all okay, don't feel bitter. You're still the best princess, other than your sister...
Tumblr media
So it's Celestia’s ones-versary (her 1,111 anniversary of when she first raised the sun, one guess as to who knew that) and Twilight wants to celebrate it with a play. Celestia is ecstatic because she always loved the idea of a play and sadly never took part in one. So Twilight had the idea to let Celestia herself star in it. After all, she’s playing herself, what’s w... You can’t say that...
Tumblr media
Twilight tells them the good news and everyone seems excited and nervous about being able to work alongside Celestia. While all previous meetings were formal, this is a casual interaction. In Starlight’s words...
Starlight Glimmer: Those were formal things – galas, world-saving. This is different! Imagine doing sweaty warm-ups with a princess, blowing your nose in front of a princess, sitting around just... talking with a princess. Twilight Sparkle: I'm a princess. You talk to me. Starlight Glimmer: That's different. You're not a "princess" princess.
While Twilight assures them that she wants an authentic experience in theater, Applejack says “Heh. Aw, quit frettin'. It's only a couple o' pals gettin' together to put on a ones-versary play. What could go wrong?”
Tumblr media
This is Milo Murphy. He’s from the show known as Milo Murphy’s Law. He’s a kid who is cursed with having Murphy’s Law: anything that can go wrong will go wrong. This includes even cheering for other people. So I’m imagining him cheering Celestia on because she is completely terrible as an actress.
Tumblr media
She can’t take direction, she’s either too quiet or too loud, you think someone who has to make speeches and do judges would know how to act casually but apparently not. Even when Twilight got two of the Method Mares to try improv with her and she’s out there like a deer at the headlights. Even Charades she’s an absolute failure.
Tumblr media
Between Celestia and the disaster that happened during rehearsal, Twilight goes off. Just as Celestia is there to hear it. This gets Celestia mad because, and I quote, “I thought I taught you about the importance of friendship, trust, and honesty!” A reminder, the first thing we’ve seen of Celestia’s interaction with Twilight was lying to her and saying to make friends. I know this is to show their relationship but the whole reason Celestia sent Twilight to Ponyville is because she failed to teach Twilight how to make friends.
Tumblr media
Ignoring that, Twilight apologizes and explains that she wanted to give Celestia a chance to experience something she never could. She didn’t want to disappoint her, which led to her doing so. Celestia accepts the apology and goes back to help with the play. She takes over director duties and to help with the missing sun prop RAISES THE SUN!!! And to quote DWK...
"Hey! "I was gonna do that, I had a whole plan don't you remember? But then you two [censored] stopped me in that movie back in September" so Celesia is confronted with a terrifying final thought: she's not supposed to do that - but she just [censored] forgot.”
Ignoring the two bits of continuity, it’s nice to see Celestia having some personality and screen time. A later episode does it better, but this is still a fine episode. Though I honestly can’t think of this episode without thinking of the “Totally Legit Recap” of this episode. I still have that song on my i-pod and listen to it from time to time. Though it is extremely naughty. Click here for the original review and how it fits in GLAB canon.

How to make an Offensive Joke be non-offensive.
This is a bit of an epiphany I had while on the John.
So, there’s kind of this thing going on with comedians complaining about how comedy has become too PC, and how they cannot make any jokes anymore without fear of offending some nebulous marginalized minority group.
Well, let me tell you about a youtuber named DWK. Now, DWK mainly runs a series called Totally Legit Recap wherein he summarizes episodes of the tv show Mlp:Fim in a satirical lampoon fashion.
He also makes many, many autistic jokes.
And, speaking as an actual autist, I find a lot of these jokes to be really funny.
Now, why is that? Why, in our supposedly far too PC culture am I laughing at jokes that are, by design, making fun of me and others like me?
Certainly I’ve heard other people making jokes at autistic people’s expenses, and I’ve gotten properly insulted at those.
So what makes DWK different?
Well, first and foremost, DWK actually knows what autism is and how it affects people.
You’ll notice that, whenever DWK makes a joke about autism, the joke is framed as such that’s explaining something an autistic person is going through.
Thus, the joke becomes less ‘Wow, autistic people. Amiright, lads!’ And more ‘Wow, autistic people’s lives must suck because of all the bullcrap they have to go through.’
It comes off as less offensive because there’s an attempt at empathy. An attempt at seeing the joke through the eyes of an autistic person.
So, instead of reacting with offense to someone belittling my existence for the sake of a cheap gag, I can instead laugh, shake my head and say ‘Yeah, it really do be like that sometimes.’
And, yeah, end of the day it’s still making neuro-divergence itself the butt-end of the joke. But it’s still not offensive because all it’s doing is acknowledging that neuro-divergence exists and how that affects people going through it in a funny, clever satire.
That’s what comedy is, by the end of the day. It’s holding up a mirror to humanity and poking fun at all the little pockmarks and blemishes we try to hide. It’s a satire of reality.
So ‘bad’ offensive comedy doesn’t work becuase it dehumanizes whatever the joke is making fun of, rather than try to empathize why something is the way it is. And dehumanization and comedy does NOT mesh because dehumanization of people is, by definition, the opposite of reality, so there’s nothing to satire.
To give another example, there’s a little joke that Tumblr likes to call ‘The only funny Gay joke’:
I’m against gay marriage because it would be a horrific experience for the children.
Either you have an endless stream of dad-jokes or your caught in an infinite loop of ‘Go ask your mother’.
See, that’s funny because it pokes fun at gay people WITHOUT dehumanizing them. If anything, it reinforces their humanity by tying the humor into a more universal experience that anyone, gay or straight or that technicolor rainbow in between, can empathize with.
So, to summarize, the best way you can make an ‘offensive’ joke is to tell it from the perspective of the minority group you are ‘offending’. Draw on THEIR experiences to create a satire of reality and not a farce of stereotypes loosely held together by ducktape.
(Disclaimer: Even then, that can be tricky if you’re not actually part of the marginalized minority group in question since, if you don’t have a frame of reference for the perspective of that minority group, you can come off as just pulling stuff right out of your ass. So, as always, ere on the side of caution.)

A while back I made up design if Uncle DWK had an OC; keep in mind I tried to keep the color scheme similar to Treehugger’s. This was made a while ago, so while rethinking this, he’d totally be more of an earth dude or a pegasus.

Apparently before hiring Alumx to do Chrysalis' voice, Scootertrix the Abridged considered DWK for that role until he turned it down, which is a sentence that makes sense to three people but makes me lose my mind regardless

What do you think of the part of the brony fandom that hates Discord because "Starlight's redemption is better because she at least tries to be friendlier and better whereas Discord still acts like a huge jerk and never gets apologises unless he's pressured into doing so"? I remember when DWK of Totally Legit Recap was the one banging that drum the loudest.
I’m sure you’ve seen enough of my content to know what my answer is, especially if you’ve seen the Season 8 roundups.

Here’s a piece I doodled yesterday for @charonib
Yona has escaped death and stared into the abyss way too many times, and after you’ve done that something changes in you.
Also this is all the fault of DWK and his more than excellent YouTube series “Totally Legit Recap”. Go check it out if you haven’t.

I’ve been watching DWK’s My Little Pony: Totally Legit Recap series and I just wanted to share some choice quotes:
“People who are obsessed with representations of their accomplishments rather than the accomplishments themselves are vapid assholes.”
“I get that you’ve had a miserable life, but shitty experiences don’t make it okay to be a shitty person.”
“Friends aren't people who don't piss you off–they’re people who are worth forgiving over and over again.”
“A relationship doesn’t start when you first meet someone and you're both pretending that you’re cool and perfect–it starts when you realize how much they suck and you gotta decide if you’re gonna commit to putting up with their bullshit.”
“If death is certain anyway, then what’s the harm in trying to live a little longer? At the very worst you’ll still end up dead like you wanted, but at best you might actually be happy.”
“All relationships begin with physical attraction, but that’s healthy as long as its not the defining factor.”
“There’s no such thing as normal when it comes to shit you like to do or talk about, but the one metric for normalcy that should and ultimately does matter is not being a dick.
