Hi, it's me, Melissa.
For starters I'd like to be up front and provide a warning. I am not a well spoken, or consider myself to be, an eloquent person. With that being said, I do feel like I have plenty to share and possibly discuss.
I figured I would start this blog for myself, first and foremost, to allow myself the room to "word vomit" all over this platform. The idea is for me to go back and reread my notes and organize my thoughts.
I want to allow myself to explore and express who I am and what I feel makes me, well, ME. I want to put it all out there and see if there is a sense of community searching for and wanting to do the same. Here are some of the topics I want to share and discuss in the future when I am ready to go public:
I am first-generation Cuban-American and I am very proud to be.
I am a Christian and my faith is an essential component of who I am and who I strive to be. I don't claim to be perfect but I do want to share the joy I have in my life because of Jesus Christ.
I enjoy sports but don't go out of my way to follow along with the politics and behind the scenes.
I am an avid animal lover and proud dog mom of 2.
I consider myself a lover of food but don't claim to be a chef.
I guess we will see what comes of this all. I figured worst case, this will just be my form of an online journal. I suppose that is all for now. Thank you for stumbling upon my blog and enduring the rambles of yours truly.
Till we meet again.

part 3 of 3: about the creator!

since my first 2 posts for pride month were about my original characters, I thought you all might enjoy some insight on the person behind the characters: me! hello :)
i'm also trying to make the format as reusable/copy & paste-able as possible so that anyone who wants to join in can share more about themselves to their followers, be they a fellow creator or a consumer of content.
if you have any questions about me, my interests, and my work, feel free to send me an ask!

Book Recommendation: Cuba: An American History
“As many people who know Cuba and Miami well have observed, each is a peculiar mirror of the other… Two facts are clear: it is impossible to understand the Cuban Revolution without understanding Miami, and it is impossible to understand Miami without understanding the Cuban Revolution.”
— Cuba: An American History, page 419
What’s this book about?
Cuba: An American History is a chronicle of US-Cuba relations and history. The book draws on more than thirty years of research and includes extensive research from the author’s own travels into the island country. The novel is written by Ada Ferrer, a Julius Silver Professor of History and Latin American and Caribbean Studies at New York University.
What is the importance of a book such as this?
Cuba, as is emphasized again and again throughout the book, has an intimate history with the United States that extends past the Cuban Missile Crisis, Bay of Pigs, and the Platt Amendment. Given the relevance of Cuba in American international policies, it’s important for Americans, Cubans, and non-Cubans alike to learn about the country’s history with the United States as we advance into further discussions related to the island.
What’s especially unique about Cuba: An American History is the inclusion of the human-side of the events that occur in the book. Ferrer weaves in testimonies and stories of Cuban exiles and those who still live on the island. It is rare that we not only get the human-side of Cuban history, but that it is also written by someone Cuban as well.
Where does the book leave off?
The book begins in 1492 with the Spanish voyages into the Americas and ends with the election of Joe Biden and the San Isidro protests in 2020 and 2021.
