My brain has been WAY overthinking some art stuff lately, so here is something that I could not overthink - crystal drawing practice!

I got really tried of calling stuff "magic crystals" in my worldbuilding notes, as its an important substance and it comes up A LOT. "Magic crystals" wasn't doing it any justice so I spent some time this long weekend actually giving things some proper names.

So anyway, now its called Xaidrion (with a Z sound). Xaidrion is a crystal formed out of condensed magic. It is very hard, probably somewhere around a 9 on the Mohs scale, and actually very stable in this form. Most commonly, it looks a lot like quartz, but with a glowing undertone making it way more colorful. Compared to 'normal' crystal formation, once xaidrion decides to start forming, it can form very fast, and will readily use bone and other semi-organic material as an attachment point. The good news is that once it's done with it's initial burst, it doesn't usually grow any further. Again, its magic condensing, so if there isn't enough background magic in the area then its not going to keep growing.

Aaaand on that note, Magic has a property that I'm going to call Resonance. Resonance has a couple properties that can be thought of as a parallel (but not exactly the same thing) as radiation. Too much resonance = bad. Unless you're a plant. In which case, resonance causes plants to grow, sometimes out of control. REF, or Resonance Effect Field, is a rating system used to describe the resonance levels emanating from something. Xaidron has a relatively small REF*, making it mostly safe to handle and can be utilized for certain applications, such as powering thought radios. Caution is advised when attempting to break the clusters into smaller chunks.

*Even the larger specimens, though as I have attempted to illustrate with the glitch effect, it looks more alarming
