What would you get our traumatized Irish Catholic boys for Christmas? And what about our traumatized Italian Catholic and cocky Vampire?
Ahh Soulie I love this question so much but OMG I had to THINK for this one!! Mostly for Owen and Henry because we don't learn too much personal stuff about Henry (plus he's a centuries old vampire so like...what the hell would you gift him?). And I think I'm only just starting season three of Boardwalk Empire so what I thought of for Owen is more of a funny gift. I'd probably have a better answer once I've seen more of him in the show if I'm being honest. But anyway, for those who're curious on my gifting ideas and thought process for Matt Murdock, Michael Kinsella, Frank Castle, Owen Sleater, and Henry (whatever his last name is 😆), I'm putting everything below the cut cause y'all know I'm longwinded 😅
Also feel free to join in on ideas in the comments because I'd love to hear what other gift ideas y'all would have!
Tumblr media
Gifting something to Matt Murdock seems like...an impossible task to me. Whenever I write fics, I honestly hate coming up with ideas for a character to gift him something 🤣 Why? Because this man doesn't remotely scream materialistic. I mean he barely makes any money at his law firm and is all too happy to be paid in bananas. And his only hobby is illegal and probably going to get him killed. So what the hell do you get Matt?
Personally, I'd gift him some sort of spa day or a long ass massage. He'd certainly need to be forced to take the time for himself and use it, but you know that man's battered and worn body would welcome a nice, long massage. Then maybe treat him to a nice dinner at a great restaurant because I always worry this man isn't eating enough.
Bonus gift: I'd give him a weighted blanket, too. I feel like it would help relax him on the nights he doesn't go out beating criminals.
Tumblr media
Okay, this one came far too easily to me for Frank Castle. I'd gift him a rescue dog. Why? THIS MAN NEEDS A DOG OKAY. Frank and a dog just go together in my mind.
I also think Frank would thrive and heal a little from the unconditional love of a furry friend. And he could certainly use the company from a canine companion. I just know a dog would bring a smile to this man's face and bring out that softer, non-murder-y side that we all know is there inside of him. And honestly, I worry about how incredibly alone Frank feels after losing his family. So a dog would be perfect.
Bonus gift: Possibly some new books to read because I imagine this man doesn't enjoy much television in his downtime.
Tumblr media
This one also came far too easily to me. I'd gift Michael Kinsella with a little vacation literally fucking anywhere calming and peaceful outside of Dublin. He desperately needs to get away from the stress of his family's business and just his crazy, shitty family in general. They're obviously not good for his health and I think he could seriously use the break. I'd also get him some less depressing books so his ass stops just reading Steinbeck and starts reading something else. You need some new books, Mikey.
Bonus gift: I'd surprise him by having his daughter Anna come along on the vacation. After eight years in prison, those two could really use some bonding time without Mikey's meddling family.
Tumblr media
This is where things started to get tougher for me. Like I said, I'm barely in season three of Boardwalk so I feel like I don't know much about Owen personally. He hasn't had that much screen time besides some killing, scheming, and sex. So this gift idea was a bit more on the entertaining/funny side. I think further into the series I could come up with something far better.
I'd gift Owen an expensive bottle of Irish whiskey and lots of condoms. I mean, it certainly seems like he'd use both of them. The man is...definitely a flirt who has every intention of following through on his flirting 👀
Bonus gift: I don't know, me? Do I count? You can have me for Christmas, Owen.
Tumblr media
Okay so Henry is the toughest one for me to answer this for. I mean he's a vampire and he's a few hundred years old and the movie doesn't give that much background or personal information on him. So what would I gift him for Christmas?
Considering he's a few centuries old, I doubt he's materialistic (certainly doesn't seem that way). I doubt he'd like a vacation because I mean...he's probably well traveled. We know he's got some morals since he doesn't feed on humans because he used to be one. So I imagine this vampire would enjoy literature and maybe art--things that connect him to the human side he lost. Though I assume he probably already owns and has read all the classic novels, so maybe I'd gift him something that's current that might resonate with him that he hasn't read yet.
Bonus gift: Maybe an engraved lighter? The vampire does seem to enjoy smoking. Or maybe something handmade and sentimental.

Before choosing a Dublin law firm
Hiring a dublin law firm is a big choice, and there are a lot of criminal defence lawyers out there. Below is some information that may assist you in navigating the process.
Free Consultations - The majority of dublin law firms provide a free initial consultation to potential clients. You are not obligated to employ the attorney if you take advantage of this opportunity to meet with him and get some of your questions addressed. An in-person consultation, on the other hand, will frequently offer you a solid indication of whether or not you can work with a specific attorney or business.
Practice areas - You should inquire about the percentage of the attorney's practice that is dedicated to dublin law firms. Some attorneys only take criminal cases on occasion, while others handle all or almost all criminal defence cases. An attorney who concentrates on criminal defence is more likely to be knowledgeable about criminal law and familiar with how criminal courts operate.
Local knowledge - Inquire about the attorney's familiarity with the court you'll be attending. An attorney who works in a certain region on a regular basis is more likely to be familiar with the prosecutors and judges in that area, as well as their preferences.
Experience - The length of time an attorney has been practicing criminal defence is a crucial factor to consider. But bear in mind that having a lot of expertise doesn't automatically mean you'll get good representation. You should inquire about the attorney's expertise defending against the type of accusation you're facing. Dublin law firms frequently specialize in certain areas.
Fees - It's critical to know how much you'll be paying for your case ahead of time to avoid future disagreements. Attorneys usually bill on an hourly or fixed rate basis. An attorney who charges by the hour bills for the time he or she spends on the case. You just pay a predetermined sum for your case using flat-rate costs, which are probably more typical in criminal cases.

Expensive Lawn Care
Dan Trevas reports on a decision of the Ohio Supreme Court
The Ohio Supreme Court today indefinitely suspended a central Ohio lawyer for overcharging or stealing more than $128,000 from a mentally ill client, including charging his $250 hourly legal rate for mowing her lawn.
In a unanimous per curiam opinion, the Supreme Court suspended Austin R. Buttars of Dublin. Buttars has been under an interim suspension since June 2019, after he was convicted of fourth-degree  felony theft. The Court conditioned his return to the practice of law on proof that he paid the remaining $66,174 of the $128,674 he took from his former client or that he reimbursed the Lawyers’ Fund for Client Protection for any amount awarded to her.
Pro Bono Representation Proves Costly to Client The Office of Disciplinary Counsel’s investigation of Buttars began from a referral from Franklin County Adult Protective Services regarding a woman identified in court records as E.H.
E.H suffers from mental illness, alcoholism, and depression. In May 2015, she hired Buttars for assistance with  a landlord dispute. Butters worked as an independent contractor to a law firm. The law firm entered into a written fee agreement with E.H. to represent her in the landlord-tenant dispute on a pro bono basis, provided she pay $20 per month during her representation.
However, Buttars signed a separate written agreement with E.H. in which he agreed to represent her “in any capacity.” E.H. advised Buttars she did not have any money to pay him, but she expected to receive a substantial amount from her inheritance when her mother died.
Buttars worked on the eviction. Two months later, in July 2015, E.H.’s landlord agreed to dismiss his eviction complaint when E.H. voluntarily agreed to vacate the premises. Buttars charged E.H. for more than 30 hours of legal services for handling the eviction at his $250 per hour rate despite the law firm’s agreement to handle the matter pro bono.
Lawyer Administers Estate E.H.’s mother died in September 2015, and E.H. requested that Buttars administer the estate. Buttars formed a law firm with another attorney, and the firm performed various actions for the estate until August 2016.
From the time E.H. hired Buttars through 2016, he charged her $69,785 for services, including $9,000 for the eviction matter. The rest of the charges were listed for administering the estate and handing personal matters. Additionally, Buttars’ law firm charged another $20,841 for probate and personal services, bringing the total fees to $90,626.
Buttars paid himself and the firm by making online transfers from E.H.’s bank account.
Franklin County Adult Protective Services became aware of the arrangement and notified the disciplinary counsel. The agency later filed a grievance against Buttars.
County Indicts Lawyer During the disciplinary proceedings, Buttars admitted that in addition to charging E.H. over $90,000 in legal fees, he transferred another $57,000 from E.H.’s accounts, although none of that money had been earned by him.
In October 2018, Buttars was indicted for theft of a person from a protected class, a second-degree felony, and agreed to plead guilty in May 2019 to the fourth-degree felony charge. He was sentenced to two years of community control, ordered to complete 100 hours of community service, and pay $29,450 in restitution to E.H. within two years. At the time of the conviction, Buttars had paid E.H. $62,500.
Prior to the filing of criminal charges, the disciplinary counsel charged Buttars with violating several rules governing the conduct of Ohio attorneys. The Board of Professional Conduct stayed the disciplinary proceedings until the completion of the criminal case.
Buttars indicated he performed various non-legal services for E.H., including: helping her with tasks around her home; looking for a new apartment; paying her bills, shopping; mowing her lawn; unclogging her toilet and sink; scheduling an appointment with her cable company; researching television evangelists at her request; and car shopping with her. For some of the services he charged a $250 hourly legal rate, and occasionally charged a $125 paralegal rate, although the services were neither legal nor paralegal in nature. On some days, he billed E.H. twice, at the legal rate and the paralegal rate for what appeared to be the same services.
Clearly Excessive Fees Charged The disciplinary counsel and Buttars stipulated, and the board agreed, that Buttars violated several professional conduct rules while representing E.H., including charging a clearly excessive fee. He also was found to have committed an illegal act; engaged in conducti involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation; engaged in conduct that adversely reflects on his fitness to practice law; and made a misrepresentation to a court
The board determined that Buttars transferred a total of $147,710 from E.H.’s accounts, and that he and his law firm earned only $19,036 for services provided. The board concluded Buttars stole or overcharged E.H. $128,674.
Buttars repaid E.H. $12,500 in January 2017, and another $50,000 before his 2019 conviction. Buttars still owes E.H. $66,174, which includes the $29,450 in restitution, which was part of his criminal sentence.
Behavior Warrants Indefinite Suspension The Court’s opinion stated that the presumed sanction for misappropriating client funds is disbarment, but that in some cases the Court has chosen to indefinitely suspend lawyers. The board noted that Buttars had made a good-faith effort toward repaying E.H., has cooperated with the disciplinary proceedings, and entered into a two-year contract in 2017 with the Ohio Lawyers Assistance Program to address a mental disorder and has complied with that contract.
The board recommended, and the Court agreed, to indefinitely suspend Buttars, finding he has accepted responsibility for his actions, expressed sincere remorse, and committed to making things right with E.H.
2019-1722. Disciplinary Counsel v. Buttars, Slip Opinion No. 2020-Ohio-1511.

Best French Door Security Invention for US Homes has Already Saved Thousands of Families
The Burglarybuster
With over thirty-five-years experience in the construction and physical security industries at senior management levels, followed by seven years training to become a mental health counsellor, it was inevitable that my later working years would involve a project combining all. Aware that French Door Security concerns cause anxieties for so many people and knowing from personal experience the impact of trauma of any kind I found it easy to identify and empathise with many seeking a solution to this problem. Today, armed with a complete understanding of the value people place on feeling safe in their own home I believe our unique Burglarybuster products represent an important response to these needs.
How it all started
When I met with Brian Reilly for the first time at a Home Security convention in Dublin, Ireland, in October 2010, neither of us knew that within eight years we would be jointly responsible for a major home security success that would give a new peace of mind to many thousands of people. We met regularly afterwards and soon decided to combine our respective marketing and engineering backgrounds.
Launching the Burglarybuster System
Subsequently we successfully launched the Burglarybuster System in Ireland and the UK in 2016. When our research revealed that French Doors in the United States open inwards - and are the most vulnerable of all doors in the home - we introduced our invention to the US market in September 2017. Now, just over fourteen months later we are pinching ourselves - because our device is now market leader in the United States.
Tumblr media
The Burglarybuster 3 for securing Opening-Inwards French doors
Here is why we attach such importance to this project - and why we believe our invention is of major significance for US residents.
Perimeter Security & Physical Security
There are two approaches to home security;
1. Intruder alarms and surveillance cameras try to deter criminals 2. Physical Security sets out to prevent unlawful entry to homes. Physical Security is the use of stronger windows and doors – generally considered to be the most vulnerable areas of the home.
In the case of alarms the major aim is to scare off the criminal and also notify the occupier when an intruder has already entered the home. Home surveillance systems have been devised mainly to enable later identification of intruders. However, intruders can come determined to enter and evade recognition. Physical security sets out to prevent unlawful entry and keep criminals safely outside the building.
The USA, Ireland and UK prioritises intruder alarms & surveillance cameras while Physical Security is preferred by most Continental EU Member States
The USA with a population of 321million in 2015 (US Census Bureau), and the European Union comprising 28 EU Member States with a population 511 million in 2016 (Eurostat), adopt different approaches to Home Security In the USA – intruder alarms and surveillance cameras tend to be prioritised, whereas twenty-six of the twenty-eight Continental EU Member states including, Poland, rely more on Physical security. Interestingly Ireland and the UK are the two EU Member States omitted here because both prioritise intruder alarms and surveillance cameras. In the same twenty-six Continental EU Member States most if not all windows open-inwards and the use of external shutters for thermal insulation and security purposes is extremely common as is also the use of security glass (laminated glass).
Tumblr media
Typical external shutters on windows used in most EU member states.
EU Member States introduce Burglary Resistance Security Standards for entrance doors
As break-ins to homes mainly occur on the ground floor, external shutters reduce exposure to unlawful entry. That’s why in Continental EU Member States criminals tend to focus on the entrance doors. To reduce the risk of break-ins occurring thru entrance doors Sweden led an important initiative in the 1980s. It successfully introduced national security standards for entrance doors – involving increased burglary resistance features including the use of galvanised steel door frames. Most Continental EU member states soon followed, resulting in the introduction of an EU Burglary Resistance Security Standard EN 1627 in 2011 for entrance doors. Today, many new build housing and apartment schemes in Continental EU Member States contain doors meeting this standard.

Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union (EU) published a 2017 Burglary of Private Residential Premises Report based on 2016 police-recorded offences per 100,000 inhabitants. Here Eurostat highlighted that complete accuracy is suspect because several states may have recorded a small proportion of burglary offences under different category headings. The report shows the following rates per 100,000 inhabitants;
Ireland .............................................380 UK .....................................................360 Average ............................................234 Poland ................................................30
To allow for burglary offences that may have been recorded under different or incorrect category headings we now increase all EU figures by twenty-per-cent;
Ireland .............................................456 UK .....................................................432 Average ............................................281 Poland ................................................36
The National Center for Victims of Crime USA
In the US Household Burglary is defined as gaining access to a dwelling by force in order to steal goods. Based on Bureau of Justice Statistics, National Crime Victimisation Survey, Concatenated File, 1992-2015 (U.S. Department of Justice) the 2018 National Centre for Victims of Crime Report estimates the number of recorded law enforcement Household Burglaries in the US for 2015 as approx 490 per 100,000 inhabitants. (Note these statistics also correspond to those provided by FBI Uniform Crime Report (UCR)).
USA 2015 – approx 490 per 100,000 inhabitants
Robbery is defined as stealing by force or threat of force and according to NCVS 284,722 offences were recorded in 2015. Household Robbery amounts to approx 17% of these offences and so 48,402 (approx 15 per 100,000 inhabitants) must be added to Household Burglary giving a total of 505 per 100,000 inhabitants.
USA 2015 – approx 15 per 100,000 inhabitants
Total USA 2015 Household Burglary plus Household Robbery is approx 505 per 100,000 inhabitants.

Summary
The above reveal that recorded home burglary offences in the USA, Ireland, and the UK are significantly higher than the EU average and all three are more than twelve times higher than Poland.
Statistics demonstrate the importance of Physical Security
These statistics reveal not only that alarms and surveillance cameras often fails to deter, but that emphasis on Physical Security is proving highly successful.
Learning from Poland
Poland with almost 38 million inhabitants recorded 36 residential burglaries (20% discrepancy included) per 100,000 inhabitants in 2016 (Eurostat) and was by far the best performer within the EU - where an average of 281 offences (20% discrepancy included) per 100,000 inhabitants were recorded. In Poland all windows in apartments and houses open inwards - enabling the extensive use of external shutters on all apartment and house windows. Secondly, almost all front and back entrance doors contain steel frames with most of these doors conform to the EU Burglary Resistance Security Standard EN 1627:2011. An extraordinary feature of this successful approach is that Poland’s residents seldom use alarms or surveillance video to secure their homes.
The truth about home security

Opening-inwards French door
In the US, Ireland and the UK the intruder alarm and camera surveillance industry has for obvious reasons neglected to inform customers of the need for Physical Security, while the insurance industry has continued to offer premium reductions only to alarm and surveillance users. We can therefore conclude that during the past thirty years the phenomenal growth of the intruder alarm and surveillance industry in the English speaking world - mistakenly facilitated by the Insurance industry - has undermined the needs of millions of home owners and renters struggling to keep burglars out of their homes. A major consequence is that these actions and activities have also significantly dwarfed the efforts of the police in Ireland and the UK who have for many years promoted Physical Security as the first step in preventing home burglaries.
The single most important security measure
Poland’s story reminds us of the importance of Physical Security and the fact that security hardening of vulnerable entry points (i.e. doors and windows) must now be considered the single most important security measure in the home.
“It was not an alarm or surveillance camera that saved our family”

James and Lorraine Flood
“We had experienced two devastating break-ins thru our French doors at night when we were all asleep in our beds, and then a neighbour recommended the Burglarybuster which we installed immediately. Four weeks later the criminals came back again at 3am, but this time even tho’ the main lock was sabotaged again the Burglarybuster held firm and the noise made in attempting to overcome this woke us all and we chased them away. That was over two years ago and we have never had an issue since. It was not an alarm or surveillance camera that saved our family – it was the Burglarybuster security device because it prevented the criminals from entering the house thru the French doors. Our main aim has always been to keep the family safe while present in the home and we know now that our trust in alarms and cameras was misplaced. We would not wish for anybody to have to go thru the same horrific experiences as we ourselves have and therefore advise everybody with French doors to install one of these amazing devices.” James and Lorraine Flood at their home (pictured above).
History of French Doors
Tumblr media
French Doors at the Palace of Versailles
The origins of French doors can be traced back to the French Renaissance in the seventeenth century when it became fashionable to have open spaces in rooms and architecture began to attach greater importance to symmetry, proportions, geometry and regularity. Consequential demands for increased natural light circulation and improved aesthetics in large new buildings meant that traditional double casement windows were often omitted and instead large French windows and doors were preferred. Over the following three centuries this fashion spread throughout the world and eventually these influences reached many countries including Great Britain, Canada, and Ireland. Later, United States based architects and designers followed suit and today French doors (also called double doors or patio doors) are incredibly popular throughout the length and breadth of the United States.
While this French initiative realized an improvement in ambience there was a major security downside in that while French doors can be beautiful they are also weak and contain design flaws that can pose security risks for residents. Moreover these risks have increased in recent years as more and more would-be attackers want to identify a rapid escape route to quickly exit the building before entering. Also due to the advances of knowledge and increased aggression by attackers, doors that were considered adequate in the past tend to be insecure today – so now external doors rather than windows have become the prime target:
French doors are generally weak & most will not stop an aggressive attack
French doors lack strength where the two door leafs meet in the middle (see below). This is because the door, while having two door leafs, contains only a single door frame which is evident on all four sides of the door.
Tumblr media
Where the two doors meet in the middle is the weakest point
Consequently, when the French door is locked, the edge of the passive door leaf acts as support for the active door leaf and consists of a structure which does not provide anything like the same level of strength gained from a standard door frame. Furthermore, French door locks are generally considered to be weak and it is commonly known that the screw fixings used to secure the hinges and the strike plate to the door frame are less than adequate in length and provide little resistance. Criminals also know that the two glass panels contained in French doors do not have sufficient strength to defeat an aggressive attack.

The Burglarybuster 1 for securing Opening-Outwards French doors
Opening-inwards French doors are the most vulnerable of all doors
French doors are probably the most vulnerable of all doors. This is known to criminals and explains why they target French doors in occupied and unoccupied homes. Of additional concern to US residents is the fact that while most French doors in Ireland, the UK and Canada open-outwards, over ninety-per-cent of all French doors in the United States open-inwards - making them easier to penetrate and more vulnerable to being kicked-in. Many medical professionals are very aware that these often random and unexpected attacks have the highest potential for the greatest danger for residents - and can lead to serious illness (The Body Remembers, Babette Rothschild, Oct 2000, W.W. Norton & Co).

The best solution for transforming French doors into secure doors
Replacement of these doors can prove expensive and may ruin the aesthetic appeal. It is worth considering an alternative that is widely acclaimed in Ireland and the UK and is now creating positive waves throughout the United States. This method focuses on transforming existing French doors into secure doors at a fraction of the cost of replacement. To date many thousands of families have opted for this solution to secure their homes. For details see our link https://www.zentry3.com/burglarybuster-3
Finally, and to summarize, intruder alarms and camera surveillance systems may act as deterrents but they do not stop criminals from penetrating the home. The best advice we can give is to harden the security of the vulnerable areas of the home, starting with the French door – the most vulnerable door in the home.
