Just a Little Longer | Kyojuro Rengoku
Featuring: Kyojuro Rengoku, gn! reader mention of Shinobu Kocho, Hinatsuru, Sanemi Shinazugawa, Giyuu Tomioka
Content Warning: modern setting, angst, hurt/no comfort, implied/referenced character death
Word Count: 0.6k
A/n: For N, wherever you are.
──────────────────────────────────────────
You heard the front door opening and immediately put down the chopstick. You grabbed a kitchen towel and cleaned your hand as you made your way to the genkan. Your husband was untying his work boots, his briefcase was leaned against the wall.
"Hi, honey," you greeted, "How's work? I roasted some sweet potatoes this afternoon. Shinobu came over and we talked about anything and everything!"
Kyojuro turned his head and smiled at you. "Hello, dear. Great to see you again."
"Do you mind snacking on the sweet potatoes for the time being? I haven't finished cooking for dinner yet." You knelt down, reached for his face with your hands and planted a soft peck on his forehead. "I'm cooking tempura."
"I'm sure it will be delicious." Kyojuro replied, his deep red irises locked on yours. Oh how you adored the way his smile reached his eyes.
"I hope so! Go clean up a bit, I'll put the sweet potatoes on the table."
"(Y/N), dear…"
"Shush, hurry up." You went back to the kitchen, taking up the chopsticks and flipping the tempura after leaving him in the genkan.
You adored your little, simple apartment. A place you called home that you and your husband had bought five years ago. You adored your small kitchen, the lovely backsplash that your husband chose, and your pots and pans collection. You loved the open floor design and how the orange glow of the evening sun illuminated your entire home. And, of course…
You loved your husband. The man who just walked out of the bathroom with his sleeves rolled up. You cracked a smile at him (you couldn't help but smile whenever he was around). Kyojuro kissed the top of your head while wrapping his two arms around your waist.
"See this? Octopus-shaped sausages!" You pointed at the sausages you fried.
Kyojuro chuckled. "They're very cute, dear."
"I know right? I just figured out how to do it! Hinatsuru taught me how to."
"(Y/N)..."
"Oh, and I met Sanemi in the supermarket today! Can you believe it? Sanemi running errands for Giyuu?"
"(Y/N), I think you should stop, my dear." Kyojuro softly gripped your shoulders and pulled you to the side, away from the stove.
"Eh? Stop running errands in that supermarket? Is it because it's too expensive?" You blinked, completely perplexed by his request.
"No, of course not," Kyojuro said, resting his forehead on yours. "You have to stop pretending that I'm here."
You stood still. Everything seemed and sounded to come to a halt, as if the entire globe had also stopped spinning. Your apartment, which was gleaming from the sunset, your kitchen, the food you were making, and the sound of people and vehicles outside. You heard nothing.
"Kyojuro?" You asked.
Kyojuro's head tilted, his soft lips parted as he nestled against yours. You kept your eyes open the entire time, waiting for him to pull himself away. Kyojuro pecked your lips again, this time holding your face in his calloused hands.
"It's alright, dear." Kyojuro stroked your cheeks and drew you into an embrace. "Live just a little longer."
You awoke in a sitting position, your body cold and your mouth dry. The room was dark despite the fact that the crescent moon shone through the window. You could hear the buzzing of the night light and the ticking of your alarm clock. Then there's a strong smell of dust from the cardboard boxes that surround you and contain your stuff.
Then it all came crashing down on you at once.
The small apartment you'd called home was no longer yours. The collection of pans and pots was long shattered. Food was decaying, and the bathtub and sink were completely dry. There was no place to return to because Kyojuro was your home.
And Kyojuro had breathed his last.
──────────────────────────────────────────
A/n: I actually have a longer version of this. I'll post it on Ao3 and tag you when it got published if you want.
Thank you for reading! Find me on Ao3 and Twitter

trissmiss
well it was shaping up to be not a very merry christmas, but the sun came out so we went out to shovel.
cut for photos and blathering
Tumblr media
in my driveway, looking west toward the garage. [image: snow, a drift of at least five feet pressed up against a small white garage, nearly obscuring the door; the corner of a house, heavily-drifted, but a section of driveway scraped down to the pavement by wind.]
Tumblr media
My driveway, looking east toward the road. I set about shoveling this drift, but it broke me and i gave up and only removed the left half of it, to clear part of the driveway to make a foot path. [image description: a drift coming around the side of a house, about four feet in height but quite thick, in front of a car with very little snow on it. Beyond that, a man in blaze orange snow pants is throwing snow onto a pile; he is up to his thighs in snow.]
Dude started out by the sidewalk. The street wasn’t plowed, so we figured ther was no point clearing by the road because when they came by they’d plow us right back in. (This is the horror that all of us in the snow belt know: when they plow the road, it throws a snowbank into your driveway.)
But after we’d been working for maybe an hour, we heard an engine, and looked and there was a town snowplow working on the cross-street a block up. We were very excited about this; I ran out to take a photo of it. But then imagine our shock and delight when it turned and came down our street next! Dude ran back in front of my car to get clear, and it came down the road in a glorious explosion of snow, operating at full speed-- Town of Tonawanda operates big highway plows so this guy was probably going 30-40 mph, flinging debris a good 20 feet either side. it’s the only way to deal with snow this deep and heavy.
Once plowed out, we focused our efforts on getting a pathway to the street.
Tumblr media
[image: my partner, a six foot three inch man in orange snow pants, sits on a hunk of snow in a tiny passage he’s digging one shovel blade wide through a heavy snowbank. he looks tired.]
Once we’d dug out, we came inside, cleaned up, and then assembled our goods and hiked a quarter-mile down the street to dude’s mom’s house. Just over the border into the city of buffalo, no plows had been by but people were trying to dig themselves out.
Tumblr media
[image description: footprints in snow in foreground, midground is the man in the orange snowpants carrying a shovel over his shoulder, background is a row of houses.] Note the cloud bank behind the houses: this is looking south. That is a lake effect front still dumping on south buffalo, which had been spared the worst of this storm but now is Getting It, though I think less severely.
Once at Dude’s mom’s house we unwrapped some presents and then made appetizers. These were what we’d planned to bring to a party on Christmas eve that got cancelled: Lil Smokies sausages wrapped in those Pilsbury crescent rolls that come in a tube.
Tumblr media
[image description: pastries with tiny hot dogs sticking out of the ends of them, on a platter]
I’m pleased to report that I managed to wear the me-made dress I’d intended for Christmas after all; it traveled beautifully under my snow pants. Merino wool, baby.
Tumblr media
[image description: the author, a fat blonde woman, is posing in front of a large mirror wearing a knee-length wool dress that’s quite tight-fitting through the bodice and flares a bit in the skirt. It is maroon-red with elbow-length sleeves.] That’s a Cashmerette Turner, modded to include side seam pockets.

5. Mushroom pasta--I'm vegetarian, I don't have time, this one is self-explanatory
4. Mushroom and kale pizza--slap some toppings on a flatbread and boom
3. Minestrone--Just take any canned or frozen vegetable, dump it in a pot with some whole-grain pasta and tomato puree, and voila, you have a soup! (Do you notice a theme of italian food being easy for me to make)
2. Mini vegetarian sausage rolls! This one is a game changer--wrap vegetarian meatballs in canned crescent roll dough, bake for like 10 minutes. Very cheap, very easy, very tasty
Anything someone else has cooked for me! I love cooking but my job is very taxing so the less executive functioning on a workday the better

A/N: This is only personal interpretation of a story not yet fully told or confirmed and wishful thinking. This is in no way canon and also probably out of character!
"Ashes of the Sun"
A beast rumored to be unmatched in strength,
the killer of the thousands that tried to slay her, one that the citizens of the many empires entrusted their leaders to end her reign,
lay lifeless on the ground, her tail wrapped around the opened gateway to head back to their realm.
Among themselves, the leaders guessed that the absent Jester King, Scott, had killed her before any of them could. It was likely of the clown, the collector of mysterious items he found to be interesting.
However, few of them had their doubts. Fwhip already told them that Scott didn't go to the portal, and the king had been wood gathering with his lumberjacks in the Netherworld. Sausage, Pix, Gem, and Shubble, on the other hand, felt that there was someone else in this realm. It was more of a feeling that they passed through, and they were there no longer.
"You know, it smells of the sun." The Sun princess, Gem, herself mentions to the aforementioned group. "It smells like an old friend."
"Really, your higness?" Shubble crossed her arms and chewed on her thumb's fingernail. "Feels like pyro magic to me, it could be a witch who mastered fire to fight against fire!"
Sausage faced their historian, Pix, and gave him a smile before speaking. "Why, we have an old friend right here! Did you slay the dragon?- We should call on a celebration if you did!"
Pix laughed. "Let's not get too hasty here, I didn't kill her! Like Ms. Shubble said, it could've been a crimson witch, or someone else that we know." Within his palms and as most of the other leaders left, he summoned a thick leather-bound book. He flipped through it's pages in quick succession. "Your radiant highness, is there anyone that comes to mind who could slay a dragon?"
Humming, the princess thought ofs and thought ifs, she clicked her tongue everytime she failed to connect dots. After many tries, ger eyes flapped open and filled with joy. "The Damsel of the Stars!"
Shrub's face was filled with disappointment, Pix kept a smile on his face and shook in his boots, and Sausage looked dumbfounded.
"...What?"
"Are you serious?" Shubble threw up her arms. "That fairytale character?"
Gem noble-y whacked the witch with her noble staff. "How disrespectful to your princess!"
"Wait, sorry, I've never heard of this fairytale." Sausage piped up. "Sounds interesting- what's it about?"
Like the true princess of the sun, she beamed. "The Damsel of the Stars, also known as Luminescent, is a warrior who protected the empires and saved people! I've heard she had a male counterpart, but he feels a lot weaker than her. How pitiful! You've never read her beautiful story!"
Luminescent? That sounded awfully familiar and wrong to Sausage.
"But yeah-" Shubble sighed. "She's not real, she couldn't have killed the dragon."
"Correction, it's possible." All eyes turned towards their speaker, Pix. "Not Luminescent, but her inspiration. I've seen from old scripts that there was an empress named similar to 'Luminescent'." In order to confirm, he flipped through his thick book. "They say a warrior's spirit fights on. It says here that the empress was engulfed in the flames of a dragon." Some papers started falling out, so he gathered them and closed the book for good. "It would be poetic if the warrior slain by the dragon got her revenge on it."
"WHA---T?" Gem whined before Sausage could speak. "But- But Luminescent would never take revenge on her foes! She valiantly dealt with them lest they had to be executed!"
"I never liked that story, had weird morals." Shubble's comment got Gem to tackle her.
...
It did slightly feel like a warrior of the stars was around the dimension of the end. A sunflower beside his feet caught sausage's eye. By the looks of it, it seemed to be dying because some of the stamen were white in the shape of a crescent. He picked it up slowly and lightly, it would be a sin to the Sun Princess if he were to kill it.
It was like the flower smiled at him, he'll take care of this big guy.
"Hey, we should get out of here! We have kingdoms to run!" Sausage said in a sing-song tune.
The witch protested, but the sun princess turned deaf to it, throwing her into the portal and following short after.
"Guardian, let's continue to discuss things in my savannah." Pix told him before departing as well.
Sausage nodded, following with the sunflower, his new friend, in his arms.

Mummy Hot Dogs
INGREDIENTS
2 (8-count) packages hot dogs or cooked sausages
2 (8-ounce) cans crescent rolls
2 tablespoons capers (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
Heat the oven to 375°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Working with one can at a time, unroll the crescent dough onto a cutting board on one sheet. Use a pizza wheel or sharp knife to cut the crescent dough lengthwise into 16 (1/4-inch) strips.
Wrap each hot dog in two strips of dough, crisscrossing the strips and stretching the dough to make it thicker in some places and thinner in others.
Transfer the wrapped dogs to the prepared baking sheets. Press two capers into the dough on one end of the dogs to look like eyes — the dough will puff around them as they bake, holding them into place.
Bake the Mummy Dogs until golden, 10 to 12 minutes.

Good ole pig ‘n a poke. Which is pigs in a blanket, basically. It’s some sausage wrapped in pancakes. My family makes them with hotdogs and puts them in pillsbury doughboy crescent rolls. Peeps, these are seriously good. Call me a Dean kinnie or whatever, but these are so easy and delicious if you want to try them. You could use turkey instead of pork if you don’t want pork. here’s a picture of what they look like

Hi! This is for Akusai Day. Keep in mind I still believe the theory that Isa is Subject X but instead of being in a cell, she had an actual room in the castle.
Title: Dancing Isn't So Bad After All
____________________________________________
"Come on, Reno! Why do I gotta be here?" Lea asked while holding a glass of sparkling water.
The fourteen year old wore a white dress shirt with the two top buttons undone, a pair of black dress pants, black loafers, and his signature yellow and red plaid fringed scarf around his neck in place of a tie.
Lea had never liked the parties that Ansem the Wise held because he believed it was just a way for Ansem to flaunt his power to the people.
"Cuz you should enjoy the finer things in life once a while," Reno, Lea's older brother by three years, replied while taking a bacon wrapped sausage from a tray held by a passing butler and popped it into his mouth, "Also, I heard from a friend of mine that there was a cute girl living here who I think is your type."
Unlike Lea, who tried to dress semi-formal, Reno went all out. He wore a full-piece black suit with a red tie to match his face tattoos and black combat boots with red laces.
Before Lea could ask who it was, the other guests stopped talking and the orchestra stopped as the man himself appeared alongside his apprentices.
"Hello, everyone. I thank you all for coming tonight. May we continue to maintain the peace of Radiant Garden!" Ansem said as he held his arms out to emphasize his words.
Once he finished his speech, he crossed his arms behind his back and stepped down the stairs, the Apprentices following him and everything resumed.
Lea groaned as he chugged his glass and put it on the table behind him.
"High and mighty asshole..." he muttered as he walked away from Reno while he flirted with a woman with blonde hair, blue eyes, and wore a hot pink strapless dress and high heels.
Suddenly, Lea bumped into the backside of a girl who seemed to be the same age as him but was a little bit shorter. She had long blue hair that was put into a bun with a black ribbon.
"Aw, jeez... I-Im sorry. I didn't mean to-" Lea stuttered as he began to apologize.
The girl turned around but didn't look disturbed.
All of a sudden, Lea's words became caught in his throat. The girl was beautiful. She had the same green eyes that he did but her skin was a bit paler than his. She wore a sleeveless, pale blue dress with a translucent layer of fabric over the skirt, held by dark blue ribbon. Going down each side was a black textured pattern, matching that on either side of her chest. She also wore black ballet flats, white silk opera gloves, black teardrop earrings, and a gold thin-chained necklace with a dark blue crescent moon shaped pendant hanging from it.
"You don't need to apologize," the girl simply replied.
Lea coughed and pulled on his scarf out of nervousness. The two of them stood in silence for a few seconds until Lea asked a question.
"So, uh... This your first time?"
"No... I've unfortunately been dragged to these events everytime," the girl answered as she rolled her eyes that were accented with pale blue eyeshadow.
Lea realized this might have been the girl Reno was talking about.
"I'm Lea. Got it memorized?" Lea said as he added his famous line.
The girl giggled a bit as she replied, "Isa."
"Isa... That a nickname?"
"No. That's my name. Or at least, that's what I can remember."
Lea was shocked. Did Isa have amnesia and that was why she was living at the castle?
He immediately felt sad for her as he said, "Sorry."
Isa seemed to glare at him for a moment and said, " Don't be. I've gotten used to it."
The two stood in silence again and merely just watched the other guests. Suddenly, the orchestra began to play a waltz. While some people began to walk to the tables where the food was, others stayed to dance with partners. Lea brightened up and had an idea.
He held his hand out and, as princely as he could, he asked, "Shall we dance, milady?"
Isa hesitated at first, but took his hand and replied, "You may."
The two of them walked hand in hand to the middle of the floor and began to step to the music. While the two of them felt happy in this moment, the other guests began to whisper to one another.
"Isn't that Reno's little brother?"
"You mean the crybaby?"
"Can't believe he's dancing with the amnesiac moon freak."
While Lea tried to ignore the insults that were being thrown at them, Isa glared at them, causing the guests to quiet down from fear. Once the waltz ended, Lea let go of Isa and began to walk away, but she stopped him.
"Are you alright?" Isa asked, who seemed to be honestly concerned for him.
"It's fine. I'm used to it," Lea responded, trying to blink away the tears that started to prick his eyes.
"You're clearly not fine. No one should verbally abuse others like that," Isa stated, once again her honestly showed through.
The two of them walked downstairs to what appeared to be the door to the outside of Ansem the Wise's castle.
"But it's true. I AM a crybaby..."
Isa suddenly started to pet Lea's spiky red hair, as though she was trying to calm down a sad puppy.
"W-What are you doing?" Lea asked while he started to blush.
"I hate seeing you sad. I rather see that stupid smile of yours always," Isa answered while she also began to blush.
In response, Lea smiled.
"Hey Isa! Where are ya!" a male voice yelled.
Isa flinched at the voice and sighed.
"That's Braig. I have to get going," Isa said as she curtsied to Lea and began to walk back upstairs.
"W-Wait!" Lea said as he grabbed Isa's hand.
Isa stopped and looked at Lea.
"What is it?"
"Can we... hang out more? I-I mean if you want! I don't wanna force you or a-anything!" Lea stuttered as he blushed again.
Isa smiled and, without him expecting it, kissed Lea on his right cheek.
"Of course. I look forward to our next meeting," Isa said with a sweet smile.
She waved goodbye as she went back upstairs.
Lea held his cheek with his hand as he sighed with bliss.
"Hey, Lea," Reno said as he walked downstairs.
He noticed Lea's lovesick state and asked, "You okay?"
"Yeah... I think I found the girl I wanna spend the rest of my life with..."

cats are like croissants. crescent-shaped. airy. sometimes even flaky, depending on the cat.
cats are like sausages. long and round. wrapped in skin. not sure what quite makes them up.
cats are like potatoes. round and with eyes and suspiciously vegetable-adjacent.
cats are like beans. warm, squishy and good for your heart.
cats are like pancakes. flat and long and enjoy being in the frying pan (not that cats should try to sit in the frying pan).
this concludes my 'cats are like' series for now. thank you

For centerpieces, consider pig-themed flower arrangements or even mini pig figurines. Don't forget to scatter some straw or hay around for that farmyard charm.
Dress Code: Pink and Piggies
Encourage your guests to embrace the theme by dressing in their finest pink attire. From pig snout headbands to curly pink tails, the options are endless. You could even award prizes for the best-dressed piggy at the party! For those who prefer a subtler approach, a pink shirt or dress will do just fine. The goal is to create a sea of pink and piggies as far as the eye can see.
Snack Time: Piggy Treats
No party is complete without delicious snacks, and for a Pig Party, you can get especially creative with the treats. Start with classic pig-inspired snacks like pigs in a blanket (mini sausages wrapped in crescent roll dough) or bacon-wrapped appetizers. For something sweet, consider piggy-shaped cookies or cupcakes with pink frosting. Don't forget the "mud" (chocolate pudding) cups with gummy worms—sure to be a hit with kids and adults alike!
Oink-tastic Activities
Keep the party going with a lineup of pig-themed activities and games. Set up a "Pin the Tail on the Pig" station for some classic fun. Create a piggy piñata filled with goodies for the kids to enjoy. If you're feeling adventurous, host a piggy costume contest with categories like "Best Piggy Snort" or "Silliest Piggy Dance." For a more relaxed atmosphere, set up a piggy-themed movie corner with beloved classics like Babe or Charlotte's Web.
Piggy Party Favors
Send your guests home with a little piece of the Pig Party magic by preparing themed party favors. Fill small bags with pink candies, piggy stickers, and maybe even a tiny pig toy. Personalize each bag with a thank-you note for joining in on the oink-tastic celebration. It's a thoughtful gesture that ensures your guests will remember the fun they had long after the party ends.
Capture the Memories
Finally, don't forget to document the day's festivities with plenty of photos and videos. Set up a DIY photo booth with piggy props for silly snapshots. Create a hashtag for your Jungle Party Theme and encourage guests to share their pictures on social media. You'll not only have a blast in the moment but also have a treasure trove of memories to look back on fondly.

Coin De Rue Bakery & Cafe, 125 N Western Ave, Ste 113, Los Angeles (Koreatown), CA 90004
Tumblr media
Coin De Rue is a cute Korean fusion bakery café owned by a pastry chef. It looks similar to Paris Baguette (and it’s better than PB). They make everything in-house. The variety was impressive and included full size cakes, cake slices, cheesecake, castella cakes, napoleons, croquettes, croissants, macarons, savory and sweet baked buns, cookies, mochi, pesto bread, egg salad sandwiches, and lots of coffee and tea drinks.
The smaller items were individually wrapped in plastic. The items were labeled and included a list of ingredients. Grab a tray and pick out what you’d like. Fresh bread is baked without preservatives every day.
Real real: Two mochi, one looked like a potato and one looked like a sweet potato. Both were generously filled. The mochi shells were thin and chewy and the filling, mashed and natural tasting. So good! Super cute too.
Red rice flour shio roll: similar to Okayama Kobo’s salt & butter roll but bright red in color, it looks like a Pillsbury crescent roll. It’s soft and slightly salty from the sprinkle of salt on top. Not as soft as Okayama’s. Good but I like the shio rolls better at Okayama and Sunmerry
Sausage bun ($4): bigger and with way more toppings than you’d get at other Asian bakeries. Liked it a lot because it had lots of hot dog slices, cheese, onions, and peppers. Drizzled lightly with ketchup.
Coin De Rue had some super cute pastries. They’re located in a strip mall with parking. Free wi-fi. They have indoor and outdoor seating.
I want to try the mochi bread next time.
