Craigievar Castle,

Craigievar Castle is a pinkish harled castle or fortified country house 6 miles (9.7 km) south of Alford, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It was the seat of Clan Sempill and the Forbes family resided here for 350 years until 1963, when the property was given to the National Trust for Scotland by William Forbes-Sempill, 19th Lord Sempill. The setting is among scenic rolling foothills of the Grampian Mountains, and the contrast of its massive lower storey structure to the finely sculpted multiple turrets, gargoyles and high corbelling work to create a classic fairytale appearance.

Craigievar Castle or the „Pink Castle“ near Alford, Aberdeenshire.

Craigievar Castle was built in the Scottish Baronial style in the 16th century. This iconic tower house is one of the best preserved and the most loved castles in Scotland. Its exterior remains virtually unchanged since William Forbes completed it in 1626.

During the restoration in 1824 the architect John Smith had the idea that wall finish should have pigments added to make it more closely match the colour of the local granite. The result was the unique pink colour we see here now.

Craigievar was the Forbes family home until the 1960s. National Trust for Scotland is now responsible for the castle.

Craigievar castle seems very tall but not wide at all, almost like it’s been squished!!

Pretty normal to me, we have quite a few of the tower style castles in the north east of Scotland. We like em tall and thick 🤷🏻‍♀️
