One Marvelous Scene: “No Tears For Me?”

For those who follow a lot of YouTube writing channels you might have noticed a series this week put out by its top influencers titled “One Marvelous Scene.”

Much like how Nick Fury did at the end of “Iron Man,” in preparation for this weekend’s “Endgame” (EEEEEEEEeeee!!!) the channel Nando v. Movies tasked several other channels in doing a video about their favorite/most thought-provoking scene in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This “One Marvelous Scene” could be anything from the iconic “I’m always angry” line from Bruce Banner in Avengers to an analysis of Captain America and the larger use of military ads within the series.

(Seriously, this is a little troubling when you think about it...)

Though I was, unfortunately, not called on to be apart of the writing Avengers (#sadface), the series did make me think about what scene has stood out the most to me in this series which now spans 22 movies (24 by the end of the year). Was it Cap’s iconic “I can do this all day line” that changed my perception of the character forever, Thanos’s epic entrance in “Infinity War,” or Cap and Bucky’s emotionally charged battle with Iron Man in “Civil War?”

No.

The scene that has stood out to me the most remains the only moment in any of these films where I almost cried (manly tears, damn it!) and that scene is Erik Killmonger’s journey to the Ancestral Plane in “Black Panther.”

The Ancestral Plain is my favorite setting in this film by a wide margin. It highlights a very spiritual and unique space in the MCU canon and contains the movie’s most emotionally charged moments. T’Challa’s own journeys into this realm are, by themselves, great scenes I considered choosing for this write-up as they highlight the arc of the character in his feelings toward his father and lineage. But Killmonger’s journey is especially powerful and shows why he’s regarded, by many, as the series most compelling villain.

(With all due respect to the Mad Titan of course. I’m speaking of course of Josh Brolin.)

The main theme of this story, to quote another famous Marvel character, quite clearly is “With great power, comes great responsibility.” In this case Wakanda has tremendous power, wealth and influence but they have chosen to hoard it and keep secret from the rest of the world. This negligence is highlighted first by Nakia earlier in the movie explaining how Wakanda can do so much more with the resources they wield but T’Challa chooses not to intervene because of “traditions.”

Erik’s arrival and subsequent takeover of the kingdom of Wakanda shows how that isolationism can have consequences. Erik is right to call out this kingdom’s hypocrisy and if this were any other type of movie he might’ve even been the main character in this story. Think about it: a prince rightfully points out injustice in a society, he is then killed without trial by his brother, his son then raise himself into the perfect warrior so that he may exact retribution and correct this flaw within the kingdom. Doesn’t that like the beginnings of a hero’s journey?

(*Menacing rap theme music intensifies*)

But it’s when he ventures to the ancestral plain that we really see the depth of this cruelty and the tragedy of how this society turned its back on one of its own. We see Erik revert back to being a child in this journey and see’s his father once more. This is an important because it shows how Erik once was, innocent, and through this we begin to understand just how far his fall has been and all because of one selfish, apathetic, irresponsible action.

When Erik’s dad asks him “no tears for me?” and he responds “Everybody dies. It’s just life around here” it becomes quite clear just how cruel it was for T’Challa’s father to leave him behind. The king, who T’Challa looked up to and admired, left a boy to fend for himself in a harsh world, with no one to help or guide him and for all intents and purposes appeared to never even attempt to go back and check in on him. And this wasn’t just any child; this was a blood relative, his nephew and he essentially left him to fend for himself because he wasn’t “one of them.” The creation of Erik Killmonger was entirely avoidable and yet it happened because Wakanda’s king wielded his privilege and influence of his kingdom irresponsibly all in the name of “tradition.”

In this way the film brilliantly highlights, especially later on when T’Challa returns to the ancestral plain, how king T’Chaka is the real villain of this film. When T’Challa tells his father and the rest of the former kings that they’re all wrong for turning their backs on the rest of the world it truly sends the message home how when you’re given a great power it is your responsibility to help others with it. Combine this genuine moment with Ludwig Gorransson’s Oscar winning score playing in the background and it’s hard not to get a little choked up during this tragic moment.

(Finally! An original soundtrack worth purchasing from the MCU!)

Contrary to popular belief, villains aren’t born villains in the real world; nobody comes out of the womb an evil, vindictive person. Evil people are created, often by even the most well-intentioned of people through negligence, cruelty and apathy. There’s a reason why MLK many decades ago said he feared “white moderates” more than he did the actual racists. It’s because those folks chose to turn their backs instead of using their privilege to help because it was convenient, much in the way T’Chaka did.

In a series that has largely chosen to cheapen most of its sincere drama with quips and bad jokes, this scene was a tremendous breath of fresh air for me when I saw it the first time. If this scene had been directed by almost anyone else in the MCU chances are there would’ve been at least one reference joke in here somewhere (“Ancestral Plane? Like am I going to see a Force Ghost or something? Derherherher.”) The emotional impact of this scene hit’s you like a sledgehammer when Erik’s dad says “No tears for me?” and thank Bast director Ryan Coogler didn’t try force in any bathos for cheap laughs.

The MCU has done a better job in recent outings (mostly) with creating genuine moments of drama but at times still feels like they can’t help themselves. I want the MCU to be less afraid of itself in that way. We care about these characters and their stories; we don’t need a pop culture reference every minute to keep us invested in the story.

These films, space cowboys and spandex super heroes and all, can be so much deeper than the MCU allows it to be. “Thor: Ragnarok” is basically the same story as “Black Panther”; A soon to be king learns that his father wasn’t exactly the man he thought he was, a long-lost relative comes to usurp his throne and through this learns to be a better king and leader. The only real difference (besides the setting and characters used) “Black Panther” is sincere in its dialogue and doesn’t shy away from the tougher subjects.

(We get it, it’s funny but c’mon...)

The Ancestral Plain is a powerful setting in “Black Panther” that helps complete arcs for its characters but its through Erik’s journey do we begin to understand the film’s main message. It’s a tragic scene and one that still sticks with me each time I watch the film and, in this day, and age we currently reside in in this world it feels very relevant as well. It’s one of the main reasons why “Black Panther” remains my favorite MCU flick to date and overall one of my favorite movies of the decade.

So While “Endgame” will certainly dominate at the box office this summer and more than likely be a huge crowd-pleaser I do hope that the MCU learns from this film as it travels into its new future. “Black Panther” showed you can tell one of these Marvel stories without adding a punchline in every minute and still be a huge success. Hopefully future films in this series understand this lesson too.

Will the Bell Ring? Pt. 3

(Erik Killmonger x Black!OC)

Part 1 Part 2

Kimara pays the barista for her green tea and goes across the street to the studio. This week has been a hectic one for her since she’s been working with Peter Gafflin, an alternative rock artist who is on the come up since his EP dropped last year. Kimara was owed a favor from the owner of the studio, Rick, after Erik helped get him some new equipment from a group that trashed the place after a drug fueled mosh pit they formed to add ambiance to their album. Suffice to say, they would not be returning to record any time soon.

When she enters the studio, Rick is there playing in his grey locs nervously.

“Kimmy! Good to see you 15 minutes past showtime, I really appreciate it.” He smiles, dimples still displaying powerfully under is grey beard.

She shrugs. “You know I have a process, Ricky Kanicky! It all works out in the end, thanks for the hookup on this gig. Are they waiting on me?”

Rick holds out his arm to escort her to the back. “Nah, I stalled them with some mic check mumbo jumbo, so at least their warmed up properly. You need some time in the booth before we start?”

She shakes her head as he opens the door. A gust of patchouli hits her senses. Peter Gafflin and his gang were warming up in a way much different than how Rick described.

“Rick! Thank God, I was ready to call the police, you were gone for like three hours man!” Peter’s rough Carolinian accent boomed as he walked wistfully over to you two in his holely jeans and cowboy boots with his fringed black leather jacket and matching wide brimmed hat.

“No, I just had to go get some extra talent to guide our recording session along. This is Kimara, she’s the third part to our banging backup we keep on hand for artists.”

Peter towers over her at 6’7, but humbly bends to kiss your hand like a prince. “To God be the glory for creating women and music. Put them together and I’m a happy Papa, you know what I’m saying?!” He ribs Rick before clapping thunderously to liven his group. “Aight y’all! Look alive. Dave get your Fender, Bill get your wide ass behind them drums, everybody take your places!”

Kimara goes over to the mics with her other singers. “Wassup Brenda? Tara?”

They roll their eyes at you before mumbling their hellos. You put your headphones on to get ready for the track to play, not studdin them today. They were the fourth pair this year to work for Rick and the studio. They all get inspired to be solo artists or get too wrapped up in the artist of the day and think they can keep up with a touring schedule to only come out of it broke with no plan B, and pregnant.

Singing has always been her dream to do, and any capacity in which Kimara can fulfill that, is one she is willing to go for. It’s her escape, her home away from home, it’s her church, especially when the artist has some good stuff to work with. Kimara hadn’t gotten as in depth with Peter’s discography as she usually does with artist’s before a recording session because her mind could not focus lately. Trying to have a baby has been on her mind 24/7 and Erik filling her mind with hope and then trying to tell her to chill made her crazy. Did he want a baby as bad as she did? Kimara didn’t think so anymore.

She shakes her head and takes a few deep breaths before looking over the music with the girls. Brenda catches her up on the tempo of the song and little points in which Peter wanted them to blow. Southern singers couldn’t deny the power of a good Black gospel when they needed it.

Peter certainly is no exception. He places his hands in front of his mouth in prayer before raising them up to the sky, bringing them down with shaky fists.

“Now THAT is a climax if I ever heard one. What did I tell you Rick? Music and women, the best sounds on this Earth come from both.” Peter smiles pointing victoriously at the three of them before taking his place at his mic. “I’m ready ladies, let’s record this thing!”

After a few dry rehearsals, time came to record. Kimara gives a thumbs up to Rick as he queues up the track to play in your ears. The song isn’t bad, kind of bluesy and it’s about a love misunderstood. Peter plays a man who is trying to convince his lover out of depression, using the analogy of being in shark infested waters. His lover finds the water and waves so beautiful she jumps from the boat and dives in after he protests over and over. He is subjected to watch as the sharks circle around her, he reaches out to her the whole time reminding her that he is there and to take his hand. He can’t tell if her face is wet from the ocean or from tears but she is smiling all the same and it frustrates him to see the danger looming but she isn’t phased.

The song ends ambiguously but Kimara can’t stop her emotions from spilling over and affecting her vocals a little bit. Rick notices immediately and cuts the session short, popping into the booth.

“Hey Kimara, you alright?” He asks in a fatherly manner.

All she can do is nod and wipe her eyes as she wishes she was anywhere but there. Being late is unprofessional enough, but costing an artist studio time, she might as well hang it up now. Peter comes over to Kimara, waving at Rick. “We’re fine, just give us a minute.” He dips his height down to look her in her eyes. “You alright there, ma’am?”

Kimara nods shrugging. “The song is just that good I guess.”

Peter shakes his head. “No, it isn’t. My buddy Ralph helped me to write it, I’ve been wondering about the composition of it since, but when he died in a car crash a couple months ago, I haven’t been able to nail this thing down. He’d know exactly what it needs, but he ain’t here to tell it.”

“I’m sorry for your loss Peter.” Kimara says apologetically.

Peter smiles. “I didn’t kill him, so all’s good! I want you to sing a little something on the track for me, just you, to kind of hear how it sounds. Don’t worry about my notes, just do what feels good to you.”

Peter motions to Rick as he walks Kimara over to his mic, setting the headphones over her ears. Kimara feels nervous instantly, not knowing what to do with the spotlight being on her, this has never happened to her before.

But as the track plays, she sings the lyrics from her heart. They were pretty simple and easy to memorize so when she closed her eyes and flowed with the track, she began to feel that familiar emotion again, accept this time she honed it as best as she could. She knew where her inspiration came from, it was undeniable, but why did he bring the sadness out so easily? Before she knew, the song was done and when she opened her eyes, Peter was on one knee with his hands out.

“You see me right now? This is what you just did to me, an old bachelor crooner ready to lay down it all for your hand. Are you betrothed my dear?”

Kimara laughs as she takes off her headphones, stepping back. “None of your business, because you are too wild for me anyway!”

Peter gets up pointing at Rick. “You hiding treasures from me, you greedy bastard! This girl ain’t a back up, she’s a star in the making!”

Kimara felt hot, trying her best to appear humble, but this man has a way with words that made her completely big headed. “It’s nothing. I don’t have the time for that right now. I’m focusing on my personal life.”

Peter smiles but appears disappointed. “Girl the places you can go. I hope you have someone in your life to remind you of your-your QUEENLY-ness! I wouldn’t leave the house without you by my side.”

Kimara shakes her head. “Well luckily I do have someone. He’s….pretty great I think.”

Peter pulls his glasses down the bridge of his nose. “Well until that ‘think’ turns into a ‘know’ keep me in mind.”

Kimara cackles pushing him away. “You have some nerve. Get back to your spot so we can make this album and go home!”

They share a laugh but before Kimara goes back to her mark she turns to him. “Peter, I did wonder though, with the song: Does the lady ever take your hand? Gets out?”

Peter smiles weakly shaking his head. “Nah, never does. Cuz I pushed her in.”

Nine Years Ago

Kimara sits on the couch with a movie playing in the background but she isn’t really looking at it. Her eyes have glazed over the moving images on her screen and the sounds are similar to being underwater. There is too much happening in her mind at the moment to even be bothered with the world around her.

Kimara hangs her head clutching her knees as she thinks back to a couple months ago, when Erik was there. She had left her part time job at the music college and cautiously pulled up to her house when an ominous figure sat on her front doorstep. Her keys tucked between her knuckles and 911 ready to just hit dial, she steps out the car.

“Whatchu want?!” She bellows, bringing the bass out her voice as much as possible. His head hung low enough that the front door light couldn’t catch his features, face masked in the darkness.

She hears him chuckle. “The hell you barkin at?” He lifts his head up to look at her.

Kimara’s heart dropped in her stomach at the sound of his voice. Covering her mouth, she drops her keys to the concrete, overcome with emotion. He wasn’t supposed to be there, practically considered him dead. Erik gets up, hugging her tightly. “I told you I was gonna be aight. I told you.”

Kimara gasps for breath. “No! You ain’t told me though!” She punches his chest for emphasis.

Erik pulls her away to lift her face toward his, wiping her eyes. “I like a surprise, what can I say.”

Kimara sniffles her snot bubbles, stepping back. “This is so damn embarrassing. How can you act so cool right now. I’m a mess, and you put on so much damn weight, like, the fuck!”

Erik opens his jack to look down at himself. “Well damn! You still know how to talk crazy to somebody.”

She laughs. “No, like, look at you! You got so damn….BIG, like….” Kimara holds his jacket apart a bit to run her hands down his chest.

Erik bites his lip nodding. “Now that’s more like it.”

“Shut up! I’m just in awe! You weren’t scrawny for real but not nearly this buff! What kind of undershirt you got on, you feel bumpy.” Kimara puls at the collar of his shirt, but Erik swipes her hand away.

“Uh uh, you gotta earn the show. Cash upfront.” Erik jokes, putting his hands in his pockets. “You look good too, real….real good. Gettin them squats in huh?” Erik stands on his toes to look around her backside but Kimara steps sideways.

“Here you go! Go on! I don’t see you for two years and you drop yourself here for what? Are you back for good?” Kimara picks her keys up, going to her front door to open it.

“I’m just here to talk, hang out. I needed a place to lay my head, so I figured I could get two birds with one stone.” Erik walks in behind her, closing the door.

Kimara takes off her jacket and sets her bag down. “That’s fine. You welcome here. You gotta tell me how things went! I know you went to Japan at first, but I didn’t get a letter from you after that, I got kind of worried…”

Erik told Kimara about his time in Japan; he was only there a few weeks before he was selected for Special Ops training, which gave him the physique. Most of the rest of his missions were confidential, but the orders he was given were implied.

When he showed his scars and the meaning behind them, Kimara just about lost it.

“How can you mark yourself up like that?! The memories aren’t enough to live with? You have to see them on yourself everyday you look in the mirror?”

“Might as well! I see it when I wake up, when I sleep! In a way, this is therapy for me, makes me feel like what I did wasn’t for nothing!”

Kimara paces the floor agitated beyond compare. “Why would you hurt yourself like that? Haven’t you been through enough to make these permanent changes to yourself? I still can’t believe the day you signed up for that damn program. The details were shaky at best. But the Navy was more important to you than what I thought.”

Erik scoffs. “This wasn’t about you to begin with. We didn’t have anything to fight for. You’re my friend, I had plenty of those. You think you’re the only one that told me to fall back from it? Huh? This gave me purpose, it gave me a vision for my future, something I ain’t had EVER.”

Kimara looked at Erik with disgust. “You’re a damn dumbass.”

Erik cocked an eyebrow. “You better be glad I know you like that, I don't let anybody talk to me like that no more.”

Kimara stands her ground with him. He really forgot who she was. “I ain't scared of you Erik! You forget that I've known you for years now, I'm not just somebody off the street! I've seen you stressed out for exams, I've seen you dealing with people giving you a hard time for being on scholarship, hell US cuz we Black and they didn't believe us! I get that every year on your father's death date, you get extra distant but you let me in to your little rituals to honor him. That Wakandan chant you'd do? I still know it by heart, hell I said it for you!”

Erik looked at Kimara angrily but not because she was wrong. “Stop talkin bout that shit.”

Kimara steps to him. “What you think you hard now? You think you got everyone figured out, you so damn smart?? But you won’t even let yourself FEEL shit no more, is that what your big plan is? Shooting people up and taking their things, like that’s ever worked for anybody.”

Erik snarls. “Except it has, and I have no problem sending it right back to people.”

Kimara points to the door. “Get the fuck outta my house Erik. I didn’t ask for this bullshit in my face.”

Erik turns his chin up at her. “So you done with me now? Now is when you wanna throw me out? I knew you wasn’t worried about me anyway.” As Erik turned away, Kimara pushes his back to get him to the door quicker.

“You fucking bastard! I wasted my fucking time thinking about you! You can’t get outta your own damn head to realize who cares about you!”

Erik reaches for the doorknob, standing there a moment listening to her wail.

“You could’ve been great here with me! I don’t give a damn how tough you think you are, you aren’t this.”

Kimara grows weak from yelling, crumpling to the floor sobbing. Erik crouches down to her quicker than he meant to. It was instinctual more than anything. “Come on now…”

She holds her hands up. “No! You don’t get it. Whatever those people told you over there isn’t true. You aren’t more of a man for doing this shit, for scarring yourself up, for not caring. You’re not human! You’re not yourself!”

Erik freezes when she says this, something finally clicked in him with what she said. Erik apologizes softly, but Kimara was tired. Tired of crying, tired of fighting, she just wanted her friend, she wanted to be happy and for him to be safe and happy too. Erik just held her in his arms, allowing himself to feel like she kept reminding him to. It hurt worse than getting the scars did and when he broke, Kimara was glad. Looking into his face she finally saw the Erik she always knew, the one that she wanted so much from. The world didn’t trample his soul that day, or any day for the next few weeks following.

Kimara allowed Erik in her heart, something she always fought with herself over because they were such good friends and Erik wasn’t the first person she would assume wanting to settle down. But when he looked at her it seemed so genuine, so pure she couldn’t help but fall into him. And that's what she was kicking herself over on that couch a month later, sore and opening a bottle of pills.

Present Day

When Kimara left the studio, she tried calling Erik but didn’t get an answer. Instead she got a generic text saying he would call her later, in a meeting.

She rolls her eyes and decides to go check on his cousin at the community center. He’s helped Erik through a whole helluva lot of bullshit before so maybe he could listen to hers.

The state of the art facility was amazing to see given what it used to be. Old apartments where crime and drugs ran rampant, now it looked like something you would see downtown in the upscale neighborhoods.

When she got inside, it didn’t take long for her to find T’Challa, crouched and talking to a small child standing next to their mother. The child gives him a hug, which he took genuinely and that’s when he sees Kimara.

“Janae, I will see you next week to work on your long division, ok?” He points to her, thanking her mother at the same time before heading over to Kimara.

“Hello! How are you?” He says to Kimara warmly.

Kimara bounces on her toes. “I’m good T’Challa, you?” They share a church hug. Kimara is so happy she can call T’Challa family, without him, Erik wouldn’t even be there.

T’Challa sighs heavily, putting his hands behind his back. “I’ve been better. I’ve been drowning in chamomile tea and crackers to settle my stomach. American alcohol is horrendous.”

Kimara laughs. “Oh yeah, Erik took you out on the town. Did you have fun at least?”

T’Challa half shrugs, smirking. “It was successful for what the goal was. I met with a young lady there and we may have hit it off. I haven’t contacted her about it yet.”

Kimara’s jaw drops. “Whaaat? You playin with women’s heart now T? I never thought of you as the type.”

T’Challa stutters a bit to find his words. “It wasn’t really….well, Erik just wanted to cheer me up for me and Nakia not being on the best of terms, so-”

“Yeah, that’s how he was in college. One girl doesn’t stop his show.” Kimara rests her hand on the back of her neck, playing with her curls knotting at the nape.

T’Challa looks away, visibly uncomfortable. “But I do intend to call her back, I just don’t want to appear too eager and things.”

Kimara pokes her bottom lip out, bucking her round brown eyes at him. “Aww, now don’t go soft on account of me. I know how guys are, so lemme stop asking about your love life. However, if it ever becomes official, feel free to invite her to hang with us. We can make a double date of it.”

T’Challa nods, smiling humbly. “Of course, that would be delightful. I am glad you stopped by actually, I imagine you’re looking for this anyway.” T’Challa turns on his heels, the tails of his jacket picking up with a flourishing wave as he clicks down the hallway.

Kimara follows behind him confused. “What are you talking about?”

Walking down the halls decorated with projects and works tagged with an ‘A+’ or 100% mark whizzed past them as they approached his office. Opening the doors to his office, his footsteps muffle against the lush carpet to retrieve something out of his desk.

He pulls out a burlap pouch to hand to Kimara proudly. “There. Erik is pretty eager to get started on that regimen so you guys can….have at it!” T’Challa gestures awkwardly shaking his hands about in front of him.

Kimara screws her face up looking from T’Challa to the bag. “But I still don’t….OH! He actually asked you about some erectile, baby juice making bull from you?”

T’Challa’s eyes widen. “You and him never stray much from details, eh?”

Kimara opens the drawstring of the bag. “I’m sorry, I just don’t….what is the shit, T?” Kimara pulls out dried leaves and herbs from the pouch.

T’Challa tuts at her. “Aye aye, put it back! He is supposed to boil some water and put that in a cup and drink it. It’s just a mix of common teas and spices, more of a placebo than a real cure.”

Kimara sighs, closing the bag up and placing a hand on her hip. “So I guess Erik really does wanna have this baby.” She murmur to herself.

T’Challa comes around the front of the desk, leaning against it. “Were you having second thoughts?”

She shakes her head fervently. “No, I want to be a mother more than anything right now which….may be part of our problem. I’m forgetting how to be his partner. We got into a bit of a thing when he had his appointment today. He keeps saying I should slow down with the baby making regimen, and I thought for a second he wasn’t taking things seriously.”

T’Challa gives an empathetic glance, crossing his arms thoughtfully. “Excuse me in advance if I’m getting too personal but Erik has told me only a few things, so I’m not unaware. But I know that Erik has your interests in his heart. He knows this is important to you and it is equally important to him. However, he doesn’t do well with rules and regulation. He likes to make things happen and if it works great, if not, move on to something new. And maybe this is his way of moving on to a new method. But it sounds like he wants to take pressure off of you, like with this herbal method.”

Kimara looks at the bag in her hand, feeling herself relax as she held onto it tightly. “I think you’re right. He’s been getting on my nerves with it but I think he’s just trying to show he cares.”

T’Challa nods. “He does, I’m certain of it.”

Kimara gives T’Challa a grateful hug. “Thank you so much! I’m gonna take this to him. Thanks for your help, I knew I would get what I needed coming to you.”

T’Challa gives her a soft pat on the back before breaking the embrace. “Anytime. You guys are a great pair, he’s lucky to have you.”

“You too. He’s come so far because of...because of you. So even though these are dud teas, it may make things a little more hopeful, who knows.”

T’Challa clutches his chest, looking hurt. “Dud teas? I will tell you those are delicious and very relaxing, if nothing else! Fresh import from Wakandan gardens of the royal palace-”

Kimara yawns. “Yeah yeah, I gotta go home now. Tell Shuri I said hello, and if Nakia give you any trouble…” Kimara boxes the air with weak punches.

T’Challa walks her out giving final goodbyes before making her way home to the man of her life.

Walking into their place, Kimara finds Erik sitting on the couch playing 2K.

“I’m home!” Kimara calls out, kicking off her shoes and jacket. Erik presses a combination of buttons on his controller, grunting as he misses his shot at the basket over and over, losing to the computer.

Kimara climbs over the back of the couch, laying her calves over his chest, warming his neck with her serried thighs. “Erik…” she whines.

Erik remains unconcerned with her presence. “Come on, I’m almost done with this quarter, don’t fuck it up.”

Kimara plays with his head, pushing it side to side before resting her breasts on top of him. “Are you still mad at me?”

“When did I say I was mad at you? I thought you were mad at me?” Erik says, still focused on the game until a loud buzzer makes Kimara jump and Erik tosses the controller on the table in defeat.

“I’m not mad, I was just...upset and assuming shit.” Kimara says softly, massaging his scalp. She feels his shoulders relax under her legs as he strokes them.

“So what problems you tryna work through still?” Erik says deadpan.

“None! We don’t have any.” Kimara says sweetly, feeling hands along his face to scratch his beard. “T’Challa gave me his little love potion stuff…” She dangles the bag in front of his face.

Erik takes it, staring at it in his hands. “Aight, just let me know what time you want me to take this and I’ll be on the way to the bedroom.”

Kimara swings her leg around to slide beside him holding on to his arm. “Erik, you ain’t gotta worry about that!”

Erik looks so tired, looking at Kimara wearily. “I don’t wanna be a reason you feel like you can’t get pregnant. I know you think I’m being childish sometimes but I want a kid just like you. This ain’t been good for us though, how we doin it.”

“I know,” Kimara says, resting her chin on his shoulder.

“And soon as those results from the lab come back, we can talk about other shit, but right now, I got you and I’m good with that.”

Kimara’s heart pounds in her chest, what a lovely man he can be. “You’re the fucking sweetest.”

“So don’t be looking at your phone in bed with that tracker, don’t just fuck me without tryna be sexy about it, and don’t down my manhood in the heat of your anger.”

Kimara rubs his chest. “That was bad of me.”

“Damn right it was. Cuz that ain’t no fucking problem.”

Kimara shakes her head. “Never.”

“I know faking, and THAT ain’t it.”

“It’s impossible for me to fake THAT.” Kimara says, knowing exactly what he’s talking about.

“So as a man and as your man, lemme take care of what I gotta do on my own terms. You just keep being cute and fine and smart as you always acting.”

Kimara lays her head across his lap looking up at him. “Never an act babe, I’m all those things and more. Including hungry.”

Erik plays in her wild fro with one hand, the other resting at the base of her throat. “What am I supposed to do about that? You ain’t got hands to dial delivery?”

“Erik! I know you got something in that kitchen, I smelt in soon as I walked in.”

“Yeah, for ME. This a every man for himself house, Ma, you know that.”

“Pleeeease.” Kimara widens her eyes a bit for good measure.

Erik smirks. “You better quit all that for I poke your eye out.”

Kimara scoffs, smacking his stomach as she gets up to look in the oven and pull out a brown paper bag with two containers of penne pasta slathered in marinara meat sauce and melty cheese with the crispy crunchy bread she loves so much.

“You were gonna eat two by yourself, huh?” Kimara quips.

“I can eat a lot more than that, so don’t try me.” Erik calls across the room.

Kimara gets her serving out and practically skips back to the couch to enjoy and watch Erik play his game. Except he still had it on pause.

“So you couldn’t bring mine back witchu?” He asks, voice raising an octave.

Kimara slurps up a stray string of cheese off her fork. “Erik, seriously? I just got in!”

Erik kisses his teeth. “Ok, lemme have a bite of yours.”

“Uh uh! Get your lazy self up and get your own!” Kimara kicks her feet up at him, scarfing another bite.

Erik doesn’t take no for an answer, pushing her legs to one side pinning her. “Gimme some!”

“No! You’re gonna make me drop it!” Kimara squeals, barely holding onto the aluminum container.

Erik just opens his mouth open coming closer and closer to her face. “You gonna spit on me, close your mouth!”

Erik guides his mouth to her fork and she hesitantly puts it in his mouth. He dramatically pauses to savor the flavor, chewing slowly. “Mm! Damn that’s good.”

Kimara rolls her eyes. “Can you get off me now?”

Erik nods, swallowing. “Yeah, just lemme have some bread and-”

“NIGGA IF YOU DON’T GO!” Kimara squirming under him.

Erik takes the container from her hand setting it on the table. “Chill I gotta digest now.” Erik proceeds to open her legs up laying his head against her chest, snuggling in her womanly comforts. Kimara is lowkey seething when all she wants is some damn dinner, but in reality it had been a while since they had been this playful with each other. Putting her needs aside, she takes the time to enjoy his weight on her, his heartbeat on her stomach, the warmth in between her.

“Sing me somethin.” He mumbles in her titties.

That night and every night following for the next two weeks were grand. Kimara hadn’t felt that kind of love for Erik in a length of time she would be embarrassed to admit. It felt like they were dating all over again and she would’ve loved for that to have stayed that way, but then his results came back and her worries erupted all over again.

CRYING OUT FOR ME

ERIK ‘KILLMONGER’ STEVENS X BLACK READER

It was 2007, Oakland, California and Erik ‘Killmonger’ Stevens was about twenty four years old. He had baby dreads that you had done for him since he practically begged you and it was time for his weekly twist and line up. You were the type of stylist that every one in the hood came to. You gave amateur prices but your work was at a professional level. You opened the door to see him in jeans, navy blue tee and some converse as you wore a green and black track jacket with skinny jeans and your house slippers with your hair in fed in French braids.

“What up, E”, you said with a huge smile. He picked you up and gave you a big hug. “What up, baby girl? You ready to bless my shit?” You tussled his hair and said “shiiiit, ima need more than hair gel and oils for your ol’ peanut head. Lemme get my holy water.” You walked off like you were serious but he pulled you back by your belt loop as he sat on your nice maroon couch. You stood behind him by your end table with his back to the arm rest. He turned on the TV to see that Love Jones was playing.

“Aye, Y/N. This yo shit”, he said with a straight face. You smiled as you started. He was telling you about his “appointment” with from Ashley down the street. “She do got a fat ass. Especially when she got those sundresses on”, you said imagining her round ATL peach bottom at attention. Even though, you had a whole boyfriend and you were no where near gay, you still checked females out..especially with Erik. Erik chuckled at your remark and said “hell yeah. But, of course, you know I had to wrap my shit up because she get tossed around more than Mac and cheese on Christmas Day and I like my dick as it is, ya feel me? But yeah, so I’m tryna clap the fuck outta her cheeks but she running and shit so I held her ass down. Yooooo, but Y/N this chick got the ugliest fucking moan. She sound like one of them white hoes in porn and shit. My shit got mad soft, yo. No lie.” You laughed with your head back with a snort that your man hated but Erik loved.

“Damn, I can’t breath. Thanks for the laugh, E. I honestly needed that it.” He looked to you with stitched brows and asked “what’s poppin’, princess?” You saw his eyes as said “it’s Bryan. We got in a huge argument again.” You were finishing up the last dread and his line up. Erik rolled his eyes in annoyance with the petty arguments with your “man”. You went to wash your hands as he put on his du rag and made himself more comfortable. “What his bitch ass crying about now, girl?” You plopped down on the couch with two bottle Arizona watermelon drinks, with chips and subs you made for y’all. “Man, get this. This nigga over here complaining about you and shit.” Y’all sipped y’all drinks at the same time without knowing and placed them on your coffee table with a quiet burp from both.“The fuck is my name in his mouth for, Y/N?!? He betta check his self before I break his fucking neck.” You giggled and added “he tryna put shit in my head.”

“Like what?”

Y’all bit into your sandwiches and you said “he tryna tell me you was checking me out when was all together for the game.” You grabbed the remote and switched the channel to ESPN to see the highlights. Erik stopped from biting into his sub and looked at you. “Why he say that?” You leaned back with your arms on the back of the couch and said “something about you looking at me like you tried to fuck or something when we was all hugged up apparently.” You laughed and then he thought to him self.

He was sitting on the couch of your boyfriend’s house with you and all y’all guys friends watching the cowboys game. You wore a baby blue body suit with the ice Jordans and he wore a matching shirt with tan cargo shorts and his matching Jordans y’all got together on Black Friday. The Cowboys were about to make a touch down as y’all stood up, cheering. When they did, you all hopped up with joy and you jumped in E’s arms. He pressed y’all chests together as you wrapped your arms around his neck and legs around his waist. You held him tight then you landed on your feet to chest bump him and do y’all handshake; Bryan watched from the kitchen. When you all calmed down, you sat next to each other with his arm around your neck and your head on his shoulder as y’all high fived.

After that, you noticed the pitcher of beer half empty and also the bowl of tortilla chips and guacamole. “Oh shit, we out”, you said as you looked to the table then the TV as there was a commercial going on. You smiled to Bryan and kissed his cheek before getting up gathering everything to fill up. You straightened out your body suit as you stood straight. You side walk passed Erik and he watched you with loving eyes. He grabbed your wrist and asked “can you get me a sprite from the fridge, little momma?” You smiled and said “of course, boo daddy.” You and your friends all laughed, except for Bryan, who didn’t get the inside joke. But that’s a story for another day. You kissed his forehead and he used the palm of his left hand to touch the small of your back; Bryan wasn’t very fond of that affection between you two.

Erik looked at you with your eyes on the TV and watched as you got up to take y’all plates in the kitchen to wash. “Can you believe that shit, E? Bryan tripping, right?” You was met with silence but when you turned around he was standing right behind you, extremely close. “Why you want this punk ass nigga anyways, Y/N? You not happy wit him so why not try us out?” He held you close by the hips as his dark brown eyes softened. “Erik, what are you talking about?”

“Lemme take you away from him, come on. You not dumb so why be with him, huh?” You looked away from him and as he tried to caress your cheek, you smacked at his hand and walked away. “Erik, where the fuck is this coming?” He walked behind you on your heels and pulled on the loop of your pants. “Y/N, why you with him, hm? He accuses you of cheating all the time when you are the most faithful personI know. He probably fucking some other bitch while you here wit me” he said. You looked up at him with your brows stitched together and arms folded. “Erik, I love him, aight? He was my first everything.” He stepped back and said “not your first everything... remember? When we were middle school and we played truth or dare with DJ and nem. He dared us to kiss. I remember what you wore and everything. You had on the peach Baby Phat crop top with those flared jeans and some Keds. You had your hair in those cornrows with your baby hairs on point because if they weren’t you would spend hours until they were. When we kissed, your lips tasted like Cherry smucker chapstick and they were so soft. I bet they still are. I still can’t get over those lips” as he grazed the bottom one with his right thumb. You were in a daze to the point you never noticed he got closer, inches away from your lips. You pushed him and spat “E, we only kissed because it was a fucking dare. YOU really think I would have done that if it wasn’t ?!?!?!?!? AND BESIDES YOU FUCK OTHER BITCHES ON THE SIDE SO HOW I KNOW YOU GONNA BE FAITHFUL, HUH?!?!”

“BRYAN CAN’T LOVE YOU LIKE I DO, Y/N!!!!! YOU KNOW THAT SHIT, GIRL!!! HE TREAT YOU LIKE YOU ARE SHIT! WHY CAN’T YOU SEE THAT?!?!?! DAMN I THOUGHT YOU WERE SMARTER THAN THIS!!!!” He yelled as he was in your face, nostrils flared and everything. You felt a tear run down your cheek but turned fast enough to wipe it off as you went to open the door looking at him. “I think you should leave, Erik”. He looked at you, at the ground then slowly lifted his head up to see you with folded arms. He walked up to you but you looked away trying your hardest to not look into those beautiful eyes. He stood in the doorway and wiped your cheek saying “Y/N, I can’t stand seeing you unhappy with a no shit ass nigga so we might always not be friends anymore. I’m sorry, baby girl but I can’t stand to see my girl being played like that.” When you looked up to him, he kissed your forehead and left. You stood speechless as you closed the door. You had tears down your face.

A week had passed and you were at Bryan’s, watching TV for Movie Night. You wore a black tee that smelt like Erik just to remember him by along with some booty shorts he bought you when you were at Venice Beach. Bryan held you close and kissed your cheek, asking “everything okay?” You nodded and remained silent until you both heard Mario’s Crying Out For Me coming from outside. “Who is that blasting that music” Bryan asked. You ignored it until you heard “Y/N Y/L/N.” You stood with an arched brow and opened the door to see Erik leaning on his car that had that song on full blast. He wore an all black sweat suit you bought him. “BABY GIRL, come on. Listen to your heart. It’s crying out for me, Y/N. Please, princess. I know I ain’t got the money like he do. I live check to check but I can give you so much more. I wanna give you the world. I swear you aren’t just another notch in my belt. You are my everything. I can’t see myself with anyone but you, Y/N. Please give me a chance and I’ll show you, I’m not some fuck nigga like Bryan. I am in love with you, Y/N. I always been. Let a real nigga have you. I wanna make you happy, baby please. Lemme save you”, he said with tears coming down as he walked slowly to the locked gate.

Bryan stood beside you trying to hold your hand but you looked at his hand in yours and yanked it away with your eyes still on Erik. “E” you yelled as you walked away from Bryan, towards him and he said “wassup” with that damn smirk you loved so much. You ran to the gate, opening it and jumping in his arms with your lips making love to one another. He held you so tight you two could’ve been conjoined twins. “Damn, softer than I remembered. I wonder what else is softer”, he said with a squeeze of your behind making you laugh and snort in shock. “Better than Ashley’s” you asked and he said “girl, waaaay better.” He lifted you up with your legs around his waist, hand full of your behind and tongue in your mouth. “Aye, Y/N...what about me” Bryan said and like clockwork without separating, you both lifted a hand up and flicked him off. When he slammed the door, you both laughed and he said “I love you, princess.” You tussled his locks and said “I love you more, my prince.”

“And that is how mommy and daddy got together”,

you said as you sat between the twin sized beds of your own set of five year old twin prince and princess.

“And what happened next, momma”,

Erik the Second asked. You looked to his beautiful almond skin, dark eyes and a cut like his father’s but his dreads were really long.

“Well, my prince. Daddy was so in love with momma that he soon proposed like months later”.

Nyla smiled big with cocoa brown skin and said

“really?”

You nodded and said

“yeah. I was and will always be a queen.”

You heard

“mommy made daddy get on a knee and propose. The king didn’t have a choice as usual.”

You looked to Erik who long dreads were braided back and wore a pair of silk pajama pants with a white v-neck showing his scars. You tucked your twists behind your ears and said

“negro, don’t lie to my babies.”

“Man, Y/N. Look, kids. If the Queen ain’t happy, then nobody can be.” You nodded and said “true. Daddy knows better.” Nyla looked at her baba holding her stuffed black panther with a gold chain close and asked “do you love momma, baba?” He walked in with folded arms, sat on your prince’s bed and looked to you as he said “more than anything and anyone in this world.” You smiled and looked at Nyla with a wink when you sat on her bed. Soon, the kids, fell sound asleep as you two stood, tucking them in and showering their little faces with kisses. You and Erik held each other’s hands as y’all walked to your shared bedroom. “So, did the king make the queen happy today”, he asked with his arm around your shoulder. You looked up to him and said “eh, could have been better.”

“Oh yeah?” He stood in front of you and looked up and down at the outfit that matched with his but you had on silk shorts instead. You poked his chest and said “yeah.” You smiled big biting into your lip and in one swift motion, he picked you up and put you on his big, broad shoulder. “E, you betta not drop me.” He smacked your butt and said “Y/N, I ain’t no weak nigga but this pull out game is about to be hella weak because how you lookin’ in these shorts...sheesh. I hope the kids ready for another brother or sister.” You both laughed, you with a snort of course, as he took y’all to your master bedroom and closed the door that read:

Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 is a Lego-themed action-adventure video game developed by Traveller's Tales and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One on 14 November 2017,[1][2] and by Feral Interactive for macOS on 2 August 2018.[3] It is the sequel to Lego Marvel Super Heroes and the third installment of the Lego Marvel franchise.[4]

With the core gameplay following the same style of past Lego titles, the game features the ability to manipulate time and a four-player competitive Super Hero battle mode.[5] Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2's storyline centers around superheroes from different eras and realities of the Marvel Universe as they fight against the time-traveling villain Kang the Conqueror in a battle across space and time.[6]

Gameplay

Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 is an action-adventure game played from a third-person perspective. The game features a similar gameplay to its predecessors and other Lego video games, alternating between various action-adventure sequences and puzzle-solving scenarios.[7] The ability to manipulate time is allowed to players directly from the new open world of Chronopolis, which is a myriad of 17 different Marvel locations (consisting of a variation of Ancient Egypt, an apocalyptic Asgard, Attilan, Hala, the Hydra Empire, K'un-L'un, Knowhere, Lemuria, Man-Thing's Swamp, Manhattan, an alternate version of Medieval England, a Marvel Noir version of New York City called Manhattan Noir, Nueva York, a variation of the Old West, Sakaar, Wakanda, and Xandar) linked through time and space and surrounding Kang the Conqueror's Citadel.[8] The game also introduces a new four-player competitive Super Hero battle mode, allowing players to fight each other cooperatively in battle arenas.[9][10]

Characters

Much like the two previous Lego Marvel games, the players are able to take control of a roster of iconic characters from the Marvel Universe, each with their own unique abilities. For example, Star-Lord is capable of flight, Black Panther can activate claw switches, and Spider-Man can swing on his webs, crawl on walls and use his spider-sense to detect hidden objects. The game also features characters from different time periods and realities over the Marvel Universe, which includes Spider-Gwen, a cowboy version of Captain America, a medieval counterpart of Hulk, and many others.[11] In addition, the game also features variations of sundry characters, like Iron Duck (who is merely Howard the Duck wearing the Iron Man's armor) and Carnom (a fusion of the Venom symbiote and the Carnage symbiote that is exclusive to the game).[12]

While some characters are just based on the comic books, others have their visuals taken from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, such as the Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, and Ant-Man. Using the ability to manipulate time, the players can change the look and abilities of certain characters. For instance, they can take Baby Groot (from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) and move time forward for him to become his adult version, and Spider-Man can go both ways with his Noir and 2099 counterparts.[13]

Downloadable content

On 6 October, ten DLC packs were announced for the game. Of these ten, there are six level packs and four character packs based on Marvel Cinematic Universe films, superhero teams, and time variant heroes.[14]

On 19 December, a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 level pack was released, featuring a level based on the opening scene of the film. It adds several new characters, including Kraglin, Stakar Ogord, Tullk, Ego and variants of Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon.[15]

On 13 February, a Black Panther level pack was released. It features new characters from the film, such as Okoye, Nakia, Everett Ross, Ulysses Klaue and Erik Killmonger. However, the level included had no connection to the film.[16]

On 20 March, a Cloak and Dagger level pack was released, and introduced the playable characters Cloak and Dagger, Mister Negative, Blackout, Shroud, Nightmare, and Silvermane. The level included takes place immediately after Cloak and Dagger gain their powers, and involves them escaping their evil captor.[17]

On 10 April, a Runaways level pack was released, which includes characters such as Nico Minoru, Chase Stein, Alex Wilder, Karolina Dean, Molly Hayes, Gertrude Yorkes, and Old Lace. The level is based on a story from the comic series, wherein the team travels to Marine Vivarium and encounters the Pride.[18]

On 24 April, a level pack inspired by Avengers: Infinity War was released, which includes an original level where the player controls the Black Order as they invade Attilan. The pack unlocks Hulkbuster 2.0 and an adolescent Groot, as well as Thanos and the Black Order (consisting of Corvus Glaive, Cull Obsidian, Proxima Midnight, and Ebony Maw).[19]

On 6 July, a final level pack inspired by Ant-Man and the Wasp was released, which includes an original level featuring Ant-Man and the Wasp as they try to recover Hank Pym's original Ant-Man helmet from Egghead, who plans to use it to create some AI Avengers. The DLC adds 8 new characters to the game: the "Ant-Man and the Wasp" version of Ant-Man (Scott Lang), the MCU version of the Wasp (Hope van Dyne), Crossfire, Egghead, the MCU version of Ghost, Giant-Man (Raz Malhotra), The Human Fly and Stinger (Cassie Lang).

Plot

On the planet Xandar, the armies of Kang the Conqueror are attacking the Nova Corps HQ as Nova Prime puts out a distress signal. The Guardians of the Galaxy answer the distress signal. While Rocket Raccoon and Groot remain on the ship, Star-Lord, Gamora, and Drax the Destroyer jump towards Nova Corps HQ where they work to keep Kang the Conqueror's forces from harming the evacuating citizens who are heading towards the rescue boats. Kang arrives with Ravonna and pits the Guardians of the Galaxy against Eson the Searcher upon summoning him from the end of time. After the Guardians of the Galaxy defeat Eson the Searcher, Nova Prime thanks them for helping to clear the civilians as Kang the Conqueror unleashes missile-like devices which cause a section of Xandar to disappear. Upon getting a contact from Earth, Star-Lord states that they have to warn Earth about Kang.

In Manhattan, the Avengers hold a victory party at Avengers Mansion that is attended by Captain America, Captain Marvel, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Giant-Man, Iron Man, She-Hulk, Spider-Man, Thor, Wasp, and White Tiger, while Hulk is away for his quiet time. Nick Fury contacts the Avengers and tells them about massive radiation spikes around a remote research facility in Siberia, Attuma’s forces being sighted in the Pacific Ocean, and a prison breakout heading for Brooklyn Bridge.

Captain America, She-Hulk, and Thor arrive at the Siberian research facility, and are attacked by infected researchers. Captain America is affected by the same gas, and attacks She-Hulk and Thor. Upon She-Hulk and Thor knocking Captain America out, they are confronted by Presence, who attacks alongside his radioactive minions. After Thor and She-Hulk defeat him, restoring Captain America to normal, the Presence claims that this is merely a test where his powers are enthralled to a higher command. As She-Hulk beats up Presence, the Winter Guard members Red Guardian, Crimson Dynamo, Darkstar, and Ursa Major show up to congratulate Captain America.

In the Pacific Ocean, Iron Man and Captain Marvel find that Attuma has gained Roxxon Energy Corporation as his benefactors, and set up an underwater base with powerful generators. Iron Man and Captain Marvel were able to defeat Attuma and destroy his underwater base by planting charges on the generators.

At the Brooklyn Bridge, Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, and White Tiger are fighting the escaped inmates from the Raft, including 5/6s Of The Sinister 6 members Shocker, Mysterio, Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, and Doctor Octopus. After his defeat, Doctor Octopus tells the heroes that "he's coming", before Spider-Man webs his mouth to prevent him from talking any further. As the Statue of Liberty is still being repaired, Nick Fury is warned by the Guardians of the Galaxy that something else is coming. Kang the Conqueror makes himself known to all of New York as he starts dropping the same devices he dropped on Xandar, which engulf all of Manhattan in a white light.

When the white light clears, Spider-Man has a run in with Spider-Gwen, who is pursuing Green Goblin 2099. Following Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen's victory over Goblin 2099 and Vulture, a group of knights ride through the area, enabling Goblin 2099 to get away. Kang the Conqueror broadcasts to all of Manhattan that they are now part of his makeshift city of Chronopolis, which is made from the greatest realms from across time and space. The Guardians of the Galaxy tell the Avengers about Kang the Conqueror and Ravonna prior to them investigating the portals. Both groups split into two teams where one will pursue the knights, while the other team will investigate a sighting of Klaw.

Captain America leads Star-Lord, Gamora, and Groot in pursuing the knights. They follow them into a portal to Medieval England and meet Sir Percy, who states that Kang the Conqueror has turned his castle into a den of evil. When they arrive at the castle, Captain America, Star-Lord, Gamora, and Groot find that Enchantress is in control of the castle. Just then, Doctor Strange arrives with Captain Avalon, who identifies Sir Percy as an imposter. Doctor Strange uses his magic to unmask the imposter as Nathan Garrett. As Captain America chases after Nathan Garrett, Captain Avalon, Doctor Strange, Star-Lord, Gamora, and Groot fight Kang the Conqueror's soldiers while finding a way inside the castle. After defeating Enchantress and her army of skeletons upon disabling the Apple of Iduun, Captain Avalon, Doctor Strange, and Star-Lord find their way inside the castle while Gamora and Groot are captured. After getting through the castle's traps, Doctor Strange frees the captive Captain America, who helps fight Nathan Garrett. When Nathan Garrett is defeated and incarcerated, he states that they have no idea what Kang's plans are. Captain America, Captain Avalon, Doctor Strange, and Star-Lord then proceed to free the real Sir Percy, as well as Gamora and Groot.

Kang the Conqueror states to Ravonna that the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy are starting to see the full extent of his genius.

Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk follow Klaw through the portal to Wakanda, where they run into Black Panther. Upon hearing that Klaw is in Wakanda, Black Panther joins up with them into hunting Klaw. Arriving in Wakanda's Vibranium mines, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk find Klaw and Man-Ape gathering Vibranium. Upon confronting Klaw and Hydra Four members Bowman and Tactical Force, She-Hulk accidentally ends up on a mine cart and is sent out of the area by Klaw, leaving the others to fight Man-Ape while Klaw, Bowman, and Tactical Force take their leave. Upon defeating Man-Ape, Black Panther, Spider-Man, and Ms. Marvel catch up to Klaw. After attacking Black Panther, Klaw escapes through the portal with Bowman and Tactical Force.

Arriving in the Hydra Empire, Captain America, Black Panther, and Star-Lord follow Klaw onto a Hydra airship. Just then, Arnim Zola speaks through the intercom to Captain America and alerts all Hydra agents to their location. While they catch up to Klaw, Bowman, and Tactical Force, Captain America, Black Panther, and Star-Lord also fight the Hydra agents sent by Arnim Zola. When Klaw is defeated, Arnim Zola unleashes the Vibranium Troopers on Captain America, Black Panther, and Star-Lord while Baron Zemo flies by on a biplane. While Black Panther chases after the Vibranium Troopers that made off with Klaw, Captain America and Star-Lord face off against Baron Zemo in a hijacked plane. As Baron Zemo's biplane crash-lands, Black Panther arrives with a defeated Klaw just as Thor and Captain Marvel arrive, stating that they will pursue Kang. Captain America tells everyone to head back to Avengers Mansion when they are done. She-Hulk briefly passes by them in a mine cart as Thor and Captain Marvel follow her.

Thor and Captain Marvel arrive in a swamp where She-Hulk has already defeated a Vibranium Trooper. Just then, Man-Thing attacks, causing Thor, Captain Marvel, and She-Hulk to fight in self-defense. Kang the Conqueror arrives with Ravonna and traps the heroes, revealing that Man-Thing was guarding the Nexus of All Realities. Kang thanks them for doing something that the Vibranium Troopers can't, and destroys the Nexus of All Realities, bringing down the barriers separating all of Chronopolis. Kang then broadcasts to all of Chronopolis that he is issuing a contest for the mightiest warriors to rise up and face him. At Avengers Mansion, the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy receive a faint signal from beyond Chronopolis, Deducing that they need a negative ion emitter to help the signal come through, Wasp sends Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot to find Star-Lord and Drax, who have a scanner that can locate the emitter.

Arriving in the Old West, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot find Star-Lord and Drax in a saloon. The scanner goes off when MODOK arrives, declaring himself the sheriff. Old West Captain America helps the heroes defeat MODOK, who gets away. When Groot gets captured and placed on a circus train, Rocket Raccoon goes after him, only to be caught as well. Kid Colt and Arizona Annie show up to help Star-Lord chase the train and rescue Rocket Raccoon and Groot from the Old West version of the Circus of Crime. Upon boarding the train, Star-Lord and Kid Colt fight their way through the circus train. After besting Captain Corbett, Star-Lord and Kid Colt fight MODOK, who has come to collect the bounty. Star-Lord and Kid Colt defeat MODOK and claim the negative ion emitter in his chair.

As the Guardians of the Galaxy meet up with the Avengers, it is mentioned by Captain America and Thor that Kang the Conqueror's citadel is protected by a barrier where they can't take the fight to him yet. Upon hooking the negative ion emitter to the console, Rocket Raccoon boosts the signal enabling them to get contacted by Cosmo the Spacedog who is calling from Knowhere upon picking up a distress call. As Chronopolis is outside time in space, Doctor Strange states that they can obtain the fragments of the Nexus of All Realities to make a door into Chronopolis so that Knowhere can appear and help drop the barrier around Kang's citadel. Though he will need to consult the tomes in his library. To help with locating the fragments, Thor states that they will have to go to Asgard and enlist the help of Heimdall. Captain America suggests that they split into two teams to accomplish the respectful goals.

Arriving at the Sanctum Sanctorum, Doctor Strange, She-Hulk, and Spider-Man search for the Book of the Vishanti as Wong claims that Doctor Strange should look after his things. Wong claims that the Book of the Vishanti is in the Mystical Cabinet of the Nisanti behind the vacuum cleaner. Upon unlocking the magic locks, Doctor Strange finds the Book of the Vishanti not in its hiding place. Just then, Baron Mordo emerges from the Mystical Cabinet of the Nisanti where he confirmed that the Book of the Vishanti was there as Wong guessed. Baron Mordo plans to use the Book of the Vishanti to make Kang the Conqueror bend to the will of Dormammu as well as having Chronopolis be absorbed into the Dark Dimension. After Baron Mordo was repelled, Doctor Strange claims the Book of the Vishanti.

Kang the Conqueror watches the fights down below while scolding Ravonna into having the window cleaners coming at a bad time. Kang the Conqueror believes the Avengers have found a new hope.

In Asgard, Heimdall and the Jane Foster version of Thor tell Odin that Asgard is lost and their forces are scattered. Odin claims that this destruction was caused by the Warriors Three defying Kang the Conqueror. Thor arrives with Captain America and Captain Marvel. When a pillar falls and Heimdall throws Odin off the thrown to keep him from being struck, it is revealed that Odin is actually Loki in disguise. Loki revealed that Kang had freed him from the abyss and helped to trick Odin into sending him on a fool's errand to find Thor in Manhattan after it was lost an age ago. Just then, Asgard is attacked by Surtur. Captain America, Captain Marvel, Thor, Jane Foster's Thor form, and Loki work together to fight Surtur and his minions. Surtur is defeated, but Loki got away. Thor enlists Heimdall to help them look for the shards of the Nexus of All Realities. Jane Foster's Thor form will keep a vigil in Asgard just in case Surtur returns.

Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk arrive in K'un-Lun where a mysterious voice states that they can enter the Cave of the Dragon if they can find the one with the iron fist in the "monochrome" city. This directs Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk to Manhattan Noir where they find Iron Fist. Before he can help them, Iron Fist states that Kingpin has taken control of the area and they must get into Fisk Tower to take him down. He suggests that Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk meet up with Daredevil and Luke Cage who have already made preparations for the attack. After the preparations are done, the group arrives at Fisk Tower passing off as deliverymen that are delivering diamond canes. While She-Hulk and Luke Cage deal with the security guards, Daredevil, Iron Fist, Ms. Marvel, and Spider-Man meet Spider-Man's contact in the form of Spider-Man Noir. After defeating Hammerhead who was planning to claim Kingpin's territory, Daredevil, Iron Fist, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, and Spider-Man Noir confront Kingpin during his party where he claimed that Kang the Conqueror suggested that he run for Mayor of Manhattan Noir....which he won. When he turns on the lights on his car that he got from Kang, Kingpin unleashes Elektra Noir on them causing them to find a way to deactivate them. Daredevil, Iron Fist, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, and Spider-Man Noir are able to defeat Kingpin and Elektra Noir. Following the party, She-Hulk and Luke Cage continue attacking the guards while Spider-Man Noir leaves to go back upstairs and make sure they are "tidying up." Iron Fist accompanies Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel to K'un-Lun while the rest of the Defenders and She-Hulk clean up Manhattan Noir.

Arriving in K'un-Lun, Iron Fist, Ms. Marvel, and Spider-Man enter the Cave of the Dragon where the mysterious voice states that there are challenges ahead on their way to that which they seek. When they get to the end of the Cave of the Dragons, they find that Steel Serpent is controlling Shou-Lao where a Nexus Shard is embedded into the Heart of the Dragon. When Steel Serpent is defeated, Iron Fist removes the shard from the Heart of the Dragon which frees Shou-Lou while Spider-Man webs up Steel Serpent. Iron Fist takes his leave to make sure the rest of the Defenders are keeping Kingpin in check. Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel then leave for Nueva York to find the next Nexus Shard.

Arriving in Nueva York, they find that the Alchemax building has been charged up by Electro 2099. After defeating Electro 2099 on the outside of the Alchemax building, Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel enter the building where they run into She-Hulk and Spider-Gwen where the latter had traced Green Goblin 2099 to Alchemax. Spider-Man 2099 arrives describing what Alchemax does. Green Goblin 2099 speaks on the monitor to them before unleashing some Symbiotes and Symbiote-controlled workers on them. Using the Nexus Shard, Green Goblin 2099 combines the samples of Venom and Carnage to form Carnom. Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Spider-Gwen, and Spider-Man 2099 fight Carnom and his second form of Maximum Carnom. When Carnom is defeated, Green Goblin 2099 tries to attack them only to be defeated by Ms. Marvel and webbed up by Spider-Man, Spider-Gwen, and Spider-Man 2099. Ms. Marvel claims the Nexus Shard while Spider-Man 2099 and Spider-Gwen deal with subduing Carnom who is chasing Green Goblin 2099.

Kang the Conqueror finds out that the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy have located and obtained some Nexus Shards. Kang plans to destroy their city while Ravonna whispers that someone has to stop him. Heimdall and Tony Stark walk though the chaos that appears in Manhattan as Heimdall wanted to see Broadway and eat hot dogs.

Arriving in Hala, the Guardians of the Galaxy search for the next Nexus Shard where they fight the Kree soldiers. Confronting Ronan the Accuser, the Guardians of the Galaxy learn that he plans to use the shard of the Nexus of All Realities so that he can lead his forces against Kang the Conqueror. When Ronan the Accuser attaches the shard to his Universal Weapon, the Guardians of the Galaxy fight him alongside his Kree Hounds and some Kree Soldiers. Despite defeating Ronan the Accuser and claiming the shard, they are confronted by an unseen character who quotes "cease."

Meanwhile, in Attilan, Triton and Lockjaw see Maximus talking to the Kree. Reporting back to Black Bolt, Medusa, and Crystal, Triton states that the shields of Attilan were disabled from within by Maximus which enabled the Kree to invade ever since Attilan got dragged into Chronopolis. Medusa suggests to Black Bolt that they pay his brother a visit.

Captain America, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, and Thor arrive in Lemuria to search for the Nexus Shard only for Attuma to trap them and flush them to the arena at Sakaar. The Red King unleashes the World Breakers on them which consists of Hulk, Red Hulk, Maestro, and Greenskyn Smashtroll on them. In addition to evading the World Breakers, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, and Thor had to attack the guards that were using their staffs to control Hulk. When Hulk is freed, Red King plans to earn his place in Kang the Conqueror's new order by defeating the heroes with the help of a giant Sakaaran Worm. When the Red King is defeated, he declares the fight a draw. Captain America tells Doctor Strange, Hulk, and Thor to take a breaker while he and Captain Marvel look for more traps before regrouping in Lemuria. In Lemuria, Attuma tells Torg that it was a shame that they never got to meet him. Back in Sakaar, Doctor Strange has Hulk and Thor make up.

Returning to Lemuria, Doctor Strange, Hulk, and Thor run into Captain America and Captain Marvel who have brought Stingray with them as he was in Lemuria at the time when it was brought into Chronopolis. Stingray warns the group that Attuma has charged a control pearl using a Nexus shard. As Attuma gets angry at Torg for getting frozen in ice, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Doctor Stranger, Hulk, Stingray, and Thor confront him as Torg gets free of the ice. During the fight, Attuma is disarmed of the pearl as Torg drags him deep underwater. In Egypt, two Egyptian interns talk about their pharaoh becoming obsessive lately when they noticed a new Sphinx. They look inside and see an unknown figure. Back in Lemuria, Doctor Strange frees the Nexus fragment from the control pearl. As Stingray gets the Nexus Shard back to Avengers mansion, Hulk and Thor accidentally destroy Doctor Strange's portal to the next location after Doctor Strange and Captain America passed through.

Arriving in Egypt, Captain Marvel, Hulk, and Thor meet the pharaoh who puts them through three different trials to see if they are worthy of getting the Nexus Shard. When it comes to the third trial in the Pharaoh's Tomb, the pharaoh locks Captain Marvel, Hulk, and Thor in where the same thing was done with Captain America, Doctor Strange, and Horus. Horus states that he arrived to investigate a violation to the Pharaoh's Tomb, but couldn't get any further. As Hulk forces his own hole down to the lower levels, everyone gets paired up in different sections. When they reunite, they find the pharaoh who states that the Nexus Shard's removal will awaken the sarcophagus' occupant who will exact vengeance on the first soul it sees. The pharaoh is revealed to be Loki in disguise as he removes the Nexus Shard that awakens N'Kantu, the Living Mummy. As Captain Marvel works to free Hulk from the quicksand, the others fight N'Kantu the Living Mummy. When N'Kantu is thrown back into his sarcophagus, Hulk slams it's lid back on much to Doctor Strange's advice not to. This causes another cave-in as everyone escapes through Doctor Strange's portal. The portal manifests in front of Loki as he is preparing to leave Egypt causing Hulk to punch him. As Captain America, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Hulk, and Thor claim the Nexus Shard, Horus makes sure that Loki puts right all that he has defiled.

Kang the Conqueror scolds Ravonna for trying to understand his strategies where she claims that she wanted to get closer to his genius. Kang states that he thinks that the Avengers are putting the Nexus of All Realities back together, yet he doesn't know what purpose. At Avengers Mansion, Wasp tells Cosmo that she has to check on the team's progress and to send Knowhere's manifest to her. After Giant-Man disrupts Iron Man's repairs on his suit, Wasp states that she needs a vacation.

On Attilan, Black Bolt and Medusa make their way to the Royal Palace where they fight their way past Sentry-459 in order to get in. Meeting up with Crystal, Lockjaw, and Triton, Black Bolt and Medusa work to make their way to Maximus. Arriving in the throne room, Black Bolt, Medusa, Crystal, Lockjaw, and Triton are told by Maximus that the Kree have a Nexus Shard which they will use to crush Kang the Conqueror. Maximus then attacks the rest of the Inhuman Royal Family in his special throne. After Black Bolt defeats Maximus, Crystal makes a new throne made of ice. As Crystal states that they should reach out to someone to help defeat Kang, Medusa states that they still have to deal with the Kree. While Crystal, Lockjaw, Triton remain in Attilan to defend the city, Black Bolt and Medusa head to Hala to confront Ronan the Accuser. Arriving in Hala, Black Bolt and Medusa fight pass the Kree soldiers where they find Ronan the Accuser still lying in defeat as they wonder who is commanding the Kree. The Supreme Intelligence makes himself known to Black Bolt and Medusa as he claims that a chrono-galactic event is unfolding. Not wanting to be distracted, the Supreme Intelligence unleashes the mind-controlled Guardians of the Galaxy on them. After Black Bolt and Medusa free the Guardians of the Galaxy from their mind-control, Rocket Raccoon breaks the glass on the Supreme Intelligence causing his system's emergency containment program to seal him up in his damages. As the Guardians of the Galaxy claim their Nexus Shard, Black Bolt and Medusa will aid them in their fight against Kang after they are done tending to Attilan.

Kang the Conqueror is pleased that he has found worthy opponents as Ravonna asks if a negotiated peaceful negotiation is still possible. Kang states that he is a conqueror and that conquering is what he will do. At Avengers Mansion, Cosmo contacts Wasp stating that he has assembled a manifest for the Avengers as Giant-Man's analysis shows that there is an EMP on Knowhere which they would use to bring down the shields surrounding Kang's Citadel. Tony Stark and Giant-Man state that they should create a channeling device to raise the footprint high above Avengers Mansion as Doctor Strange will create the portal in that position.

Making their way to the roof, Iron Man and Giant-Man build a device to help with bringing Knowhere to Chronopolis. Once that is done, Doctor Strange begins making a portal high above Avengers Mansion by assembling all the shards of the Nexus of All Realities. Due to a lot of interference, Captain America, Doctor Strange, Giant-Man, Iron Man, Rocket Raccoon, and Star-Lord notice that Ego the Living Planet is at the other side of the portal. Wasp appears to warn them that Kang knows what they are planning according to an anonymous source. Ego hears Kang's name and states that he shall pay for his insolence after the heroes pay for their incompetence. To keep Ego from arriving while dealing with Kang's forces, Black Bolt, Spider-Man 2099, Wasp work to accomplish this by establishing up a satellite link and aligning the satellite network with each other to cause a resonance feedback wave at the right frequency to focus on. When the power goes down, Captain America, Thor, and White Tiger work to restore the power. Doctor Strange works on a spell while Iron Man and Giant-Man make slight adjustments to their device, Rocket Raccoon, She-Hulk, and Spider-Gwen defend them from Kang's soldiers. Before the portal closes, Ego states that Kang that he will remember this impertinence. After that portal closes, another one opens as Knowhere appears. While Doctor Strange rests, Wasp plans to make contact with the Nova Corps for them to be ready when the shields around Kang's Citadel drops as every superhero prepares for the final battle.

As Kang the Conqueror watches the warfare on his screen, he notices that Ravonna is not with him. He plans to let the heroes come. Arriving on Knowhere, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Star-Lord work to fire the EMP around Kang's Citadel. When that is done, the Nova Corps begin their attack only for Damocles to shoot them down when Kang summons it from outside Chronopolis. Riding the Milano, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Star-Lord make their own entrance on the Damocles and fight their way through Kang's forces in order to get to the bridge. Arriving at the bridge, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Star-Lord confront Kang and attack him only to find that they are attacking a hologram. Upon deactivating Damocles, Kang leaves Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Star-Lord with a parting gift in the form of Korvac. After defeating Korvac, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Star-Lord escape from Damocles before it can crash into the ground.

The final battle against Kang's forces has begun as Kang is pleased that he found some worthy opponents. Upon destroying the drone defenses outside Kang's Citadel and deactivating the forcefield around its teleporter, Captain America, Captain Marvel, and Doctor Strange enter Kang's Citadel where Star-Lord accidentally sets off the alarms. Confronting Kang the Conqueror in his control room, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, and Star-Lord fight Kang and his forces until Kang and Captain America are left. As Kang grows to giant size and undoes Damocles' destruction to use as his sword, Captain America activates the technology to create a giant solid hologram of himself to fight Kang until he manages to defeat him. As the other superheroes converge on Kang, Ravonna turns against Kang by using his time crystal to reduce Kang to a baby.

With Kang an infant, the superheroes celebrate their victory as the remaining villainous forces are being defeated. Ravonna states that as soon as the remaining areas are secured, she will return the components of Chronopolis to their rightful places in time and space as Rocket Raccoon gives baby Kang a bottle of milk.

In the mid-credits, baby Kang is shown levitating a sword.

In the post-credits sometime after all the components of Chronopolis are returned to their rightful places in time and space, Tony Stark, Captain America, and Captain Marvel are at the fully repaired Statue of Liberty. Just then, Ravonna in her new alias of Terminatrix arrives with an elderly Kang, Supreme Intelligence, Cosmo, and Man-Thing. She and Supreme Intelligence mention a chronal fracture incident.
