trying to think of AU names. i should be studying but. IT'S COOL

tell me about Ao Lie. and Wukong, and his programming backstory. and why Tripitaka is in trouble with the government. and Nezha (obviously, as aroacenezha LMAO). i wanna know everything about that angry little cyberpunk guy. what's his junkyard look like? have any Ao Lie/Nezha spats? is he a main-ish character?

and how does this translate w/ the og story of JTTW? is this just a character idea kind of thing, or some ideas about the scrolls and journey to enlightenment?

ao lie and tripitaka's relationship is one of my favs to draw and write about currently, they both lean on each other super hard for support bc at their core they're both so lonely yet unable to reach out for help. ao lie often has tripitaka pick him up from parties or other events. their friendship has only stayed so strong because ao lie is so insistent that he would get to know the shut off tripitaka.

wukong's old programming was a secret project from the jade city government to raze areas marked as "undesirable" from the city. this is mostly places where resentment towards the government is growing, and poor areas. wukong's original programming was violent and obedient, he had no personality of his own and his only goal was to carry out the current command. but because of this, it was easier for tripitaka to rewire him, as robots with no set personality code can more easily be reprogrammed, as they're almost a blank slate.

ao lie and wukong… used to not like each other. at all.

but one night, they got the chance to actually talk to just each other. and after that, they became much friendlier to one another. i want to make a comic based off this so i can't say much for now…

tripitaka is in trouble with the government because he is against it. jade city's government is corrupt and ripe with nepotism. they try and lock out technology from reaching poor areas. so tripitaka builds and creates, so that the defenseless can defend themselves. tripitaka is technically an illegal citizen, nobody is really sure where he's from and he has no official papers stating he is a citizen of jade city. but he's been living in the slums since he was very young. tripitaka also gets into trouble for breaking and entering and trespassing, as he will sometimes need materials that aren't available on the black market and will take matters into his own hands. tripitaka can be a little badass, as a treat. (but i love book tripitaka too)

though this tripitaka is still a strict pacifist, so his crimes are all non-violent.

nezha!! little nezha thinks he looks very badass, but everyone else wonders… who the hell is dressing this kid LOL. nezha has first hand experienced the inequality of jade city from living in the slums and has becomes extremely protective over the people there. just on the outskirts of his town there is a junkyard he frequents. tripitaka goes there often too, for scrap metal, and sometimes nezha will bring him materials (if tripitaka asks nicely, lmao). when wukong was first sent to raze their town, nezha was able to pin him under steel pipes in the junkyard, making it so tripitaka could reprogram him. nezha is still extremely proud of this. im making a comic based on this moment….

nezha often will enter tripitaka's home without warning, so the first time he entered with ao lie there, he assumed the worst and jumped to defend tripitaka. ao lie found it hilarious and adorable. ao lie doesn't take nezha very seriously and reminds him often that he has no part in what his family does as he was disowned, but nezha is convinced otherwise and will pester tripitaka constantly to stop talking to ao lie.

nezha is a main character, he is the connection for tripitaka to the neighborhood. he acts a bit like a scout, alerting tripitaka to events that are happening or people that need help or things fixed. nezha seeks out tripitaka because he knows that tripitaka is dependable and wants the best for people.

as for how it translates to the og story of jttw… in my head, eventually, tripitaka is forced to leave Jade City with his robots and head west. i don't have it all figured out yet, but the scrolls would instead be like… some kind of data. sorry this part is so vague haha, in my head there is a closer resemblance. i currently have the story split into a few parts, and right now we're remaining in jade city.

Shadow King AU

After escaping from the trap that the wretched Spider Princess made for him and the kid, Wukong stood near at the top of a building watching as how Xiaotian and Liu’er embraced one another. Xiaotian looked hurt in a way, for what reason he didn’t know but he was sure it was about their conversation.

When he was told he was spoken about with

‘love and admiration’ and being the ‘hero’ of Macaque’s story, he could’ve sworn that his face got warm.

“He never abandoned us…unlike what we did”

Wukong didn’t respond to the young king, he only watched as the boy’s friends came to hug him. His eyes drifted from the boy to his father. Macaque didn’t remove his hand from his son’s back. His eyes were filled with relief and happiness.

The happiness he saw when he saw him during the journey

The happiness he saw when they he killed Tripitaka.

Wukong turned away and left the family, unbeknownst to the now confused Great Sage, the pilgrims and the warrior god arrived to help and check on the kids, their brother, and his son.

“Is that so?…did…did he hurt him?” The king asked his shadows as he caressed his son’s head, sleeping peacefully with his father next to him. Both shadows shook their heads much to the king’s relief.

“Stay with him, Wukong is still out there and im not sure if he’ll do anything to him… we’ll be leaving dawn” the king ordered and informed the shadows, as both himself and Erlang Shen need to rest one more night before continuing their search for Wukong.

“How did you know?”

“Hm?”

“How did you know that Liu’er still cared?…He kept us locked up and alone!”

“Locked up? yes….alone? Really? You heard the boy, he still cares about us…he begged the Jade Emperor to grant us mercy and kept us home…Listen, if He didn’t care he would’ve killed us…with our staff”

Wukong thought about it looking at the silver chains on his arms. He remembers the day he was locked up, hearing a soft and gentle “sorry” from his warrior. He remembers the times when Macaque came to give him food, bathed him, and took care of the then imprisoned monkey. Every day he’d arrived just in time in his visits, other days he’d be a few minutes late all because of Guanyin. Until Xiaotian came to his life, the six eared monkey’s eyes glow and his smile grew wider when he told all the silly adventures the child was in during the day, ones he knew of course.

“The kid isn’t Tripitaka…none of these humans are…”

Wukong nods and let the young king speak.

“Surely you know he’s a good kid…or in your word…‘a pet’”

Wukong shot a glare at the small Monkey whom did not flinch at the look. The king looked at himself with his arms crossed. That talk they had work quite well for both the former king and the prince. He could hear the whispers from where the corrupted king stood

“Do NOT call him a PET….Anymore”

I want to add that Xiaotian won’t stop showing his dad that he leaned 72 transformation with wukong, to get out of there, until he tired himself out and fall asleep.

Also this is like the perfect in between with what I wrote here and when wukong will leave to go to a certain person that was very important for him, but he never talks about him; if you know him you know him.

How you think the wukongs would have reacted if they met corrupted king and the lady bone demon

Hmmm, I have two answers, one serious and angsty and the other pure crack bc it’s one Wukong against five more, easy win yknow? (Unless more than one was possessed, that’s a different story 👀) So, I’ll answer it as them reacting to LBD (serious) and Possessed!King (comedic) separately. If y’all want the opposite reactions for either lemme know! (Also, if either of these situations were to ever happen timeline wise, the Wukong’s would’ve had to have arrived during season 3 instead of after. Reminder that this au takes place after LBD’s defeat, King’s possession and Mac’s redemption. However, I am willing to make a timeline where they arrived during s3, if anyone is interested in that idea. I’m a writer and I have many ideas regarding this concept in general, all y’all need to do is ask for them :])

:: Lady Bone Demon Reaction (Serious) ::

Fear and a sense of unease, for the most part. Only four of the present Wukong’s have met her, and only one had trouble defeating her before. Remember, in King’s universe things are a little different, while for Uncle, Sage and Sunny (while Sage’s movie takes place during the Ginseng tree which is before he meets his LBD, I moved him just a little bit further up in his timeline for conveniences sake, and Sunny’s LBD was the Jade Witch) they killed/got rid of her with ease, King had to lock her away just to stop her and still couldn’t stop her without help both times. That, and this LBD was originally a goddess that, apparently, the Jade Emperor had personally known and trusted and was powerful enough to pose a genuine threat to the universe. She’s not someone to take lightly, and King makes sure to inform his counterparts of this.

Sunny would likely be the most uneasy of them all (King is not included bc we already know how he reacts to LBD), since he hasn’t faced anything of this magnitude yet. Despite that, he shows the most courage and hides his fear well, up until LBD sends him flying into a mountain so hard he’s out cold for a few minutes. Then he shows his fear, because the last few times he faced someone strong enough to take him out of the battle even for a minute he’d nearly died. He gets out of this one only a bit banged up, but still shaken. After that he takes to sticking close to the Not-Wukong’s (MK, Sandy, Pigsy, Tang, etc etc) to protect them should any debris or LBD herself gets too close.

Lucky, while wary, isn’t terribly concerned with LBD and is actually the most confident out of everyone present. Little reminder, Lucky never got trapped under the mountain, and thus didn’t experience getting his ass handed to him on multiple occasions and certainly not the torture the others did courtesy of Tripitaka. In fact, Lucky had a father figure. I mean he’s dead but he passed from age so like. Anyways, he’s the most confident of them all that they’ll beat LBD no sweat. He keeps this energy up until he sees Sunny get bodied into a mountain and then not get back up, then he stops pulling his punches and starts taking the fight seriously. (RIP to LBD’s host, she’s not dead but she’s definitely feeling those broken ribs)

Sage, being the arrogant monkey he is, tries persuading the others to let him handle this one, he’s got this. I mean he defeated a demon ancestor on his own and came out the other side alive and got a sick god mode form out of it, he’s got this guys- only for the other Wukong’s to tell him to cut the shit because they know he’s actually scared they’ll get hurt and wants to handle this on his own bc if he died once and came back stronger because of it he’ll probably do it again right? Wrong. So, basically, Sage is incredibly scared he’ll lose this new family he cares very much about and wants to protect them by taking the danger on himself, which is a trauma response to the last time this happened and he witnessed his entire family die right in front of him. So. Hm. Yeah.

Dasheng keeps everyones morale up, gives pep talks and pops shitty jokes at every chance he gets to keep anyone from spiraling from fear, which is his own way of stopping himself from spiraling into the ever-present fear he’ll be too late to save those he cares about and will have to deal with the knowledge he was this close to saving them, but was ultimately too slow to stop their death.

Uncle is, surprisingly, the most serious about the whole situation. He keeps everyone focused and on task, directing them on what to do and where to go on and off the field. Again, trauma response. Everything these guys are doing in this situation can be boiled down to a trauma response. They are scared and they are trying their best and they’re refusing to outright say so because they’re Wukong’s and a true Wukong never admits his feelings amirite?

They end up defeating her, obviously, but not before they get a lot of scares and quite a few humbling moments. The only reason they struggle is because they’re all simultaneously trying to take LBD down and trying to keep each other from getting horribly injured and also avoiding each others attacks. It’s one thing for one Wukong to fight one enemy with a fuck ton of replaceable clones, it’s another for six shooting off one powerful attack after another while simultaneously dodging their enemy and each others attacks that go awry.

:: Reaction To Possessed King (comedic) ::

While initially they’re put off by the possession thing, it very quickly turns into glee. Finally, an excuse to see who’s stronger! Oh, uh, what? Yeah yeah totally trying to get him back don’t worry just give us another thirty minutes I haven’t seen if he can withstand being crushed under the staff yet-

It very quickly turns into one big game of keep-away, where they keep King and LBD high enough in the air everyone on the ground can watch peacefully while eating some snacks and making bets on whose stronger. One monkey tests their mettle against King, while the others make sure King and LBD stay in the area of the sky they’ve designated as their arena.

The entire thing frustrates LBD to no end and she is so fed up she drops her host (who is quickly caught by Mac and returned safely to the ground) and takes advantage of the brief scramble to catch the host to try and body Dasheng. Emphasis on ‘try’. Dasheng, the powerhouse that he is, swats her away like a fly and sends her into a mountain. This breaks her hold on King, whose first reaction to being free is “Fuck, I wanted to keep fighting!!” Which earns some Looks from Mac and everyone on the ground. Listen, in his defense, he has never been able to go all out against someone that wouldn’t immediately die in one hit, it’s exciting being able to do so for the first time! MK stop- stop looking at me like that-

I'm worried. Why Qiji has a golden headband like Wukong when he was punished?

I was waiting for this one-

So, in my alter au the headband is used to restrict one's power instead of punish them, and it can be removed but only by Wukong and Macaque and ofc a few people from the celestial realm, which is much different than what the monkey king had to suffer with.

When Qίjῑ was born, she possessed a lot more power than she was supposed to, while her brother Shenmi was born with weak magical abilities. She started acting similar as Redson; feeling corrupted, becoming reckless, and incredibly dangerous.

She and her brother are much younger than Redson, and Tripitaka already passed away by the time Xῑwὰng reached adolescence. So with the lack of powerful people (Macaque did not have the strength to do the ritual at that time so it would only be Nezha, Wukong, and DBK-), Guanyin decided to use the headband with the conditions I mentioned above in hopes of preventing a massive disaster.

Of course I do plan on changing it to a golden wrist ring like the one Nezha uses (in lmk it's on his neck), but the images I gave out are just the default designs. Don't worry she's not in any trouble.

I got the concept of the comic with this

A curious fact about Wukong is that he really did eat human mans before meeting Tripitaka,he used to trick them by turning into a pretty woman and then he eat them after this. He told Tripitaka that himself and although Tripitaka thought he was bluffing, it was all true.

This got more intense than I thought it would,the blood was supposed to be red but I was starting to feel uncomfortable drawing Wukong covered in so much blood then I did what danganronpa did.

Avatar monkie kid au

Okay so I’m adding more the the avatar au. Where there are light benders and shadow benders. Light benders are extremely rare tho. Like not even the jade emperor is a light bender. He’s a earth bender who bends crystals. But sun wukong is a light bender, and every time a light bender is born a shadow bender is born as well to keep the balance.

Thus macaque was born and can’t die due to wukong being immortal. They have a weird red string. Light benders typically either kill their shadow bender or they get married. There’s usually never an in between with them XD

wukong also happens to be the avatar that Buddha had to trap for 500 years cause the monkey was causing to much trouble. Bajie is an earth bender, wujing is a water bender. Tripitaka is an air bender. They all have mastery over their element but they do not have a fire bender cause wukong actually already mastered fire via demon bull king all those 500 years ago.

Macaque also has avatar abilities due to being linked with wukong, but they have a darker twist to them. Like how wind is soft and bendable macaques wind cause chaos and mayhem. So while getting the scrolls from the first ever avatar they constantly have to fight macaque and the other demons. Also not all demons are shadow benders.

But Buddhas other self was lady bone demon (I know that isn’t even close to the real lore I just couldn’t think of a bigger bad guy) who everyone thought was dead.

So wukong has to learn all these elements while fighting macaque and the lady bone demon minions. All the while protecting tripitaka with getting the scrolls.

500 years later a new light bender is born Qi Xiaotian. I’m this universe the old avatar doesn’t have to die for a new one to be born, but the other avatars during sun wukongs earth bound years tended to die due to demons. So wukong makes sure Mk gets his staff so that it might keep this new avatar safe.

Mei is a water bender

Sandy is a master, but rarely uses his bending cause his psychiatrist told him to curve his anger. Pigsy is a fire bender. He only uses his fire when it comes to cooking his noodles and that’s why they taste better.

Tang is an air bender, but he never cut his hair or got the tattoos cause it’s dying out tradition. Red son is a fire bending master, but would rather use machines cause he made these beings and it bring his pride~

And mk has his own shadow bender named fanshe (who is the love interest) Basically he’s raised by macaque and taught that his life is only to be a shadow to mks, but when he fakes his friendship with Mk the avatar tells him how he feels like a shadow to wukong. So the shadow bender actually starts to get along with Mk cause he understands that pain of wanting to be yourself.

Fanshe is Human. Which is rare for shadow benders. It tends to corrupt them, but macaque is keeping an eye on fanshe and if there’s any signs of stress due to his bending he forces the man to stop and meditate. That’s the only thing that can stop the corruption.

Also Mk doesn’t know about fanshe being a shadow bender. Before he even joins mks group macaque reminds him to pick one element and only use one element. So fanshe becomes mks earthbending teacher

He gets caught when he saves Mk from a devastating blow by taking them both into the shadows and moving away. Causing everyone but Mk to distrust him. Oh yeah. Most shadow benders tend to be evil, but not all of them. People just tend to remember all the bad ones. But Mk let’s fanshe hide as his shadow.

Mk: yeah but everyone knows about how amazing your avatar journey was! *he looks down sadly* I’ve lost all the elements but one…

Wukong: *he pats the kids shoulder* lady bone demon stole the way you bend. Not the bending itself. No one can take that away from you. It just means we’ve gotta train thrice as hard.

Mk: *smiles* so then you aren’t mad?

Wukong: mad?? About what bud? Anyone would have been tricked into that trap.

Mk: *shakes his head* not you!

Wukong: especially me.

So lady bone demon steals his bending techniques causing Mk to go back to square one. So they journey to the west so that Mk can train amongst the celestials.

Chang’e is his new water master

Nezha is his new fire master

Guan yin is his air master

Tudigong is his earth master

Macaque is his shadow master

And wukong stays his light master

Macaque joined the team due to the lady bone demon coming back. He doesn’t get taken like in season 2. Instead he begrudgingly joins wukong cause they have a common enemy.
