tw: SMUT, (soft smut), newlyweds, virgin reader, fem!Bodied reader, Oral sex, fem!rec, I just wrote this so not proofread.
w.c: 2.3k
The happiest day of your life, the day you read your vows to each other, before an altar, with so many witnesses sharing your joy, but the only ones that matter were he and you. Two mawkish lovey-doveys, inebriated in each other; the sappy couple you swore you’d never become. And here you are, a stumbling tangle of limbs, sprauchling on every wall and every corner of the hallway, tearing your lips apart. Anxious fingers searching and finding, sneaking through any opening. The floor brims with rose petals and flickering candles, tracing the path that leads to your hotel room.
The faint light captures the glint of the gold bands on your left ring fingers. Boozed up mesh of laughs floods the air.
You duck into your room, and without breaking the kiss, Levi shuts the door close with a back-kick. The loud thud rumbles through the corridor.
“Levi!” You cry and pull away, rubbing a finger over your smudged, bitten lip.
Laughter bubbles out from his throat. Lovely sound. And he shrugs his blazer off, then his vest letting them pool at his feet.
He looks at you, his fingertips lingering along your ears, while your svelte finger slips under his bow tie, the strap unclasps and it flumps down. Levi removes the bobby pins with such daintiness, making your braids fall out, tiny white flowers tumble from you hair, littering the mahogany wooden floor like stars twinkling in the sky. You fondle his cotton-clad shoulders and upper arms as he, without breaking eye contact slides his hands behind your back, looking for the lace that keeps your dress in place; he tugs at it, finally, and the bow loses its shape. He spins you around, and you lift your hair; his breath caresses your nape, and his lips come closer, smothering with kisses your neck and naked shoulders.
Butterflies flit in your stomach, just like the first time you met.
“I love you,” he whispers, his voice raspy and smooth at the same time, making heat rise to your cheeks, between your legs.
“I love you too,” you muse. You’re trembling, dizzy with eagerness and agitation.
Deft fingers loosen the corset, with the patience of an old granny counting coins to buy a loaf of bread. The cord slips through the grommets and then  his scorching palms glide  between your dress and your sensitive flesh, cleaving the panels open. The hefty, white, pompous  gown rumples around your legs.
You swirl around.
“Beautiful,” he mutters, and you feel shy under his dull gaze, eyes dawdling gingerly over your body, dressed in lacy lingerie. He hoists you in his arms, making his way to the bed, your legs anchored around his waist, your heels tapping on his butt cheeks. Arms tethered behind his neck, tongues urgently fighting for dominance. You can feel the excitement growing under his pants
He scuffs off one patent leather shoe, his free rayon-clad toes push down the other oxford at the heel and he drops you on the bed, your legs dangling over the end. He crouches down, and lifts your right foot first, resting it on his thigh, slips off the white strap through the buckle and tosses away the heel. He repeats the process for the other foot. Then raises your leg lightly, his mouth strides from your knee down to your ankle, drawing a trail of moist kisses, and retraces his steps. Giggles dribble from you. His lips tickle your thigh as they move upward, and his teeth hook at the white garter, pulling at it and letting it spring back; he chases it, and drags it down, slowly, until it dangles in your toes and slips down.
His lips find yours again and he shifts you to the center of the bed, his fingers brushing like feathers over your ribs, then your waist, as you undo the buttons of his shirt. He leans back, sitting on his heels and pulls it off, the silver glow that seeps through the window baths his perfectly chiseled body in luster as a marble sculpture.
The buckle of his belt clatters on the floor, he slips off the bed and  wiggles his black slacks down, then crawls back and kneels between your legs.
“You’re gorgeous, Levi.” You stretch out your arms, making grabby hands. “Let me touch you.”
He smirks, and hovers over you, his hands denting the mattress at the sides of your head. You look like a goddess, hair sprawled, laying beneath him in that sexy lingerie, in the middle of the scattered red petals. His nose nudges on your cheek as your fingertips map his naked chest and abs, burning his skin like molten wax, his muscles rippling under your touch. His nose strolls down along your jawline, and tips your chin up, planting kisses leisurely on your neck, grazing that thrumming spot.
Your blood fizzes through your veins, igniting every inch of your body, from flesh to bone. “I want you, Levi.” You mewl, lolling your head to the side so his mouth continues the blissful onslaught under your jaw.
Levi pulls apart a bit, grips your jaw and forces you to look at him. He scans your face. Your cheeks are flushed pink, specks of white quail on your dilated pupils, faint puffs of breath sip out of your already worn out lips. While engrossed in your beauty, your sneaky hand finds the hem of his underwear and slip under, in quest of what you covet now. Your fingers curled around him, eliciting a cloying gasp; hips jerk up. He’s girthy, and oozing, and a drop of panic smears in your lower belly.
“Not yet,” he tows your hand off and hauls you up and unclasps your bra  after a few attempts. His fumbling hands cup your breast, nipples tautened with desire rolling between his fingers, and a reel of moans spools off your mouth. You lurch back, propped in your arms, head hanging backwards, brows twitching. You feel his knuckles brushing down past your navel as his tongue teases and swirls around your hardened nubs. Desire pools between your thighs; your core aches with greed.
“Ah! Levi, please!” You tilt your head down and look at him having fun with your breasts. You run your fingers through his hair and clench your hand, pushing him down to where you need him the most. “Levi!” You wail, as he nibbles on your perky bud, refusing to leave. He pulls apart by a bit, gazing up to you, your nipple captive between his teeth. He lets go, simpering, and drags his lips back to yours.
He pushes you down on bed.
“Y/N.” he utters against your mouth.
“Y/N.” Against your collarbones.
“Y/N.” Your navel.
“Y/N.” Over your clothed mound.
He´ll never grow tired of saying your name.
A grin blooms on his lips when he catches the transparent spot on the crotch. His eyes glint with need, and you can't help but blush with embarrassment.
“Don’t be shy.” His palms saunter over your inner thighs as he buries his nose in your wetness. “I’m so hard I don’t think I’ll last too long. And you´re the cause,” he mumbles, and takes a deep breath, your sweet arousal awakening his primal side and shutting down any trace of self-restraint. Damn, he wants to be inside you so bad, but he needs to try you first. He pushes your panties to the side, and shears with a finger the cord of slick that lingers between your skin and the lingerie. His length twitches. Shit, he’s going to blow out before any fun begins.
But it’s your fault, you turn him into a madman without even trying.
Your hips jiggle at the first lap of his tongue running between your folds, legs squirm, something coils within your core. Your eyes squeeze shut, face turned to the side, mouth drawing a beautiful O as he feasts in you, like a famished man savoring a copious meal after several days without taking a bite.
His name falls of your mouth as his playful tongue and lips explore uncharted territory. He pulls away and strokes your swollen clit over the fabric, your hips rocking, seeking the delightful friction.
“Don’t st- No!”
He cruelly lets the knot in your belly unravel, all the bliss dwindling.
“I’m sorry,” he coos, his fingers anchored at the hem of your underwear. You buck up your hips and he pulls down that meddlesome piece. Completely bared and unfurled for him. A piece of art worth for his private museum.
He doesn’t waste time. He spreads open your folds with his thumbs, your enlarge glossy clit, longing for attention. And he listens to it. His lips seize it, his tongue laps and draws circles over it, pushing you to the edge. Your body writhes; your legs tense, your knuckles whiten as your hands clench in the sheets.
“Levi! Fu- Ah!” You gasp at the finger plunging into you, but it’s not enough to appease your need and he knows it. He adds a second digit, prodding, scissoring, chasing after each other, stroking that spongy spot as he’s mouth works on your clit. Your eyes clamped shut tight, you feel meteors bursting behind them. It’s intense, fierce, the sizzling now boils within you until it erupts like a volcano, and for a few seconds, you’re swarmed by pure elation.
Your chest rises and fall wildly, your breath whizzes out in staggered pants, and your face is sleek in sweat. Through the haze, you find Levi staring up at you, sweeping his tongue over his coated lips. You see it in his eyes, he can’t hold back anymore.
In a second, he gets rid of his underwear, his cock springs freely, the throbbing tip whisking his lower belly, and a crisp line of black tuft that begins under his belly button, marches down to the base of his erection. He peels down the foreskin, and shit, he’s beautiful, big and thick, and your eager and nervous to have him.
His hardness skims your belly as he kisses you, and you can taste yourself in his lips. Sweet and bitter. He inches back, and your eyes entangle, his hand smoldering your cheek. His voice is serious. “I’ll be gentle.” Kiss. “Let me know if it’s too much.” Kiss. “You know I fucking love you.” Kiss. “And the last thing I want is to hurt you.” Kiss.
You nod, the back of your hand brushes his cheek with tenderness. “I love you too,” you croon, “and I trust you.”
He guides himself, looking for your entrance, and you feel him poking. Panic rises. You close your eyes, and he rolls his hips forward, painfully slow, and your body puts resistance to the unfamiliar intrusion. Levi stills, watching every reaction on your face. Your body is all tense. His hand entwines with yours for reassurance and you squeeze. He squeezes back.
“You have to relax,” he purrs, strands of black hair prick your forehead, his breath fanning over your neck. Beads of sweat trickle down his face. Your free hand claws on his shoulders, threatening to etched red marks.
Tears peek at the corners of your eyes. You take a deep breath, teeth sinking into your bottom lip, and, with resolve, you buck your hips up in a howl of pain. Levi grunts and hisses at the tight warmth that envelops him; inch by inch, he sheathes himself into you. Hot blood dashes through his veins as he fights the urge to shove himself into you in a quick, single thrust.
With a thumb, he sweeps away your tears.
“Levi,” your voice is a quavering lament, your face contorted in pain as he breaches you, breath hitching; your walls blazing in sweet agony. And then your pelvises meet, and he stops and stills. Trembling, waiting for you to adapt.
“You’re doing great.” He tugs down your lower lip, eyes droopy, leaden with love and lust. “I love you, I love you, I love you.” He spews and captures your lips again. Your hand meander along the slope of his spine. Despite the waning pain, you know you’re a perfect fit. Made for each other.
His face reels back, enough to take a glimpse of your face, to make sure you’re ok, tears dried, and a faint smile tugs at your lips.
“You can move.” You say.
He rakes his fingers through your hair, toying with your locks for a moment, before finding your hand again. He wants to reach your peaks with your hands weaved together. He drops his head to kiss you and only then, he begins to work himself in and out at a languid pace, relishing in your moist and the friction, taking his time because he doesn’t want to explode just yet.
Your back arches as the pain gives way to pleasure; brimming, rolling heat. Your nails rake down, painting red lines on his back. Groans and moans rise in a dazzling melody. Your melody. His deep grunts getting in tune with your highest notes.
Your name seeps out of his lips in jagged whispers, melting in your hair. His breathing quickens as his tempo rises, and your body tightens around him, driven over the edge, for the second time, by the rocking of his hips.
Your hands squeeze each other as if they’d melt together.
You coil, tighter and tighter, and then, jolts of pleasure break through you, seizing every inch of your body, and your orgasm wrenches his right after. He fills you with his seed and collapses over you, but doesn’t roll away. He stays, with an idiotic smile plastered on his face, and reaches out, sweeping a lock of hair from your cheek and tucking it behind your ear. He kisses you on the forehead, and your both let giggles rumble in your throats. His thumb fondles the back of your hand, drawing feeble circles, then brings it to his mouth and presses a kiss on top of the band.
“Are you ok, Mrs. Ackerman?” He watches you watching him through eyes leaden with weariness, dozing. Yet, you pull out a smile.
“Better than ever before. Mr. Ackerman.”

It feels like ages since I last posted an update for my Rhaenyra cosplay for Dragon Con 2023, but the last four weeks has been nothing but attaching the narrow trim to the seamlines of the overdress -- a tedious and fiddly process that had to be done by hand, and the trim had to be sewn down on both sides despite how narrow it is. I made good progress on it day to day, but the pictures were rather boring and similar week to week.
The nine vertical seams that have trim (no trim at center back, per the screen-used costume) come to a total of 447 inches. Sewing down each edge of the trim doubles that to 894 inches, or just under 25 yards of handsewing just to get the trim attached. At 7 or 8 stitches per inch, I figure that's something like 7000 itty bitty invisible stitches. Plus another two yards or so for basting the center front trim to make sure it was really centered once sewn down.
No wonder it took me four weeks, lol.
I still need to put the narrow trim on the edges of the sleeves, and I might get started on that today while watching Fourth of July movies (Independence Day and Hamilton at a minimum, maybe a few others), at least do the ironing to curve the trim slightly and baste it in place if nothing else. We're going to a friend's place for dinner and fireworks tonight, and while I certainly don't want to haul the entire (silk!) dress out of the house with me, taking one or both sleeves to sew on the ~30 minute drive over might not be a bad idea.
Besides getting going on the sleeve trim, now that the narrow trim is finished on the dress itself I've also been able to shift gears and start focusing on the wide neckline trim. I did a whole series of pinned tests to figure out what I wanted the center front to look like, how to make the pattern come together in the most visually pleasing way, and Jack helped me pick out the best option. Yesterday I trimmed the first two pieces to length and carefully handsewed the center front seam so the pattern matches up exactly:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The raw edges are currently just tucked under and pinned, and I need to figure out how much extra I want to leave -- enough so it won't fray or unravel, but not so much that the center front is weirdly puffy or stiff. This trim is at least partially polyester so I have been able to singe the cut edges to keep everything in place. I might be able to carefully do that on the center front edges, too.
After thinking about it overnight, I think I'm going to do this same treatment at center back, that mirroring of the pattern, and then just let the shoulder seams be whatever. The wig will mostly cover the center back, but eh I'd rather have the symmetry there.
So the next major task is getting all this neckline trim cut and placed, handsewn to the neckline of the dress and frayed ends all tucked safely away. It's going to be a bit tedious, especially at the shoulder seams, but hopefully it won't take me weeks and weeks like the narrow trim did!
Getting that wide trim in place is the last thing blocking getting the grommets in, so I'll be heading straight into that once the trim is even just mostly applied. There are things like the hem and the question of needing a modesty panel at center back that I can't even start on until I can lace the whole dress closed. And if it comes right down to it, I can cut corners on things like beading and the styling of the wig, or sewing a little bag to carry my stuff in. But the dress absolutely must have closures, or it's not really a dress, lol.
Given that, I think the order of operations is more or less: neckline trim, then grommets at center back and armscye/top of sleeve. Then hooks and eyes at the wrists, and a hem for the dress. Wig styling is probably the next highest priority, then the bag to carry stuff with me since the dress has no pockets. Then finishing the underdress, sewing on the large beads at waist and wrists, and then the tiny beads over the neckline trim. I've got one or two little adjustments to do to the jewelry that should probably come before the little seed beads on the neckline, but hopefully I'll be able to get to all of it in the next 8 weeks (!!) until I need to pack for Dragon Con.
I've also gathered basically all the components for my Harley Quinn cosplay, just waiting on one length of lining fabric to arrive -- but I'll talk all about that in its own post sometime soon here.
Eight weeks feels like hardly any time at all, especially given that I spent the last four weeks on what ended up being just one check mark on my rather long to-do list. But I am thrilled with how the dress is looking, and the narrow trim was definitely worth doing. It makes the dress look so much more like the screen-used costume.
Hokay. Time for movies and sewing. Here's hoping I can get through that to-do list in the next 58 days!

EDC Backpack pt.0, the plan
In relation to this ask, I've been planning out a 'get home/get safe' bag for everyday carry, hiking, or just keeping it handy in the car/jeep. The bag will feature deployable armor, and otherwise appear like a normal backpack.
There are a few companies that make bags like this, but they are generally in the $400 range. I have a great bag from the old days that could serve as a platform, so I'm gonna modify it instead. Even with the purchase of the extra bits and hardware, it should cost a quarter or a third as much as the others.
I got a Spiritus Systems front bag from an ebay sale and I'm working out attachments now.
Tumblr media
What I'm thinking so far is to use the chest rig loops as an attachment point for the straps to pull the bag up and over my head, and then down to the waist strap to secure it. These will probably be simple 1 inch webbing. The debate I have right now is how to secure it. The webbing on the backpack's waist strap is looped, so I can start off by simply doing some velcro one wrap to test how velcro holds under movement, but I've got no confidence in that working. I'd like to have some kind of hardware attachment method, like HK clips/carabiners or something, but it needs to work quick and I shouldn't have to eyeball it when I'm doing it.
The ends of the secure straps at the bottom of the carrier will probably be web loop carry handles that I steal off another canvas bag, and I'll run steel wire through them to get them to hold an open shape. They'll stick up out of the top of the backpack for me to grab at. I'll probably attach D-rings to the bottom corners of the carrier, so that the loops won't fall into the pocket when not deployed.
Up top I'm gonna create a nylon pocket for the front bag to rest in.
Tumblr media
(middle finger unintentional, haha) That'll go in just above the shoulder strap pocket pictured here. The opening edges will get heat sealed, and stitched like I was doing a threaded grommet, so that the pocket will stay open and hopefully be durable enough to handle the friction of the bag going back and forth as I use it repeatedly. The area will be pretty tight thickness-wise, but should have enough room if I go with the plates that were suggested to me.
Inside the front bag pocket, I'll box stitch in shoulder straps for the carrier, which will end in a few inches of hook. They'll be positioned so that the slack from the straps will allow the bag to rest at the bottom of the pocket. I'm gonna mock these up before I do anything permanent, because the system will have to clear over my head and still come to rest in the right place over my chest. Not sure if that works naturally, or if I'm gonna have to introduce some elastication.
Gonna be a fun project.

How to Use a Tarp for a Privacy Screen
A tarp, or tarpaulin, doesn't make the most attractive privacy screen, so you wouldn't likely use one long-term, but tarps work well for providing temporary privacy such as for a party. Choose a solid tarp if you also want to block the wind and provide complete privacy. Alternatively, use a mesh tarp that can screen the area by up to about 90 percent while still allowing some wind to pass through the mesh. The tarp requires a sturdy support frame, but the poles won't cause major damage to your lawn and garden.
Tumblr media
1.Lay the tarp flat on the ground and measure the actual dimensions; tarp dimensions on the label are usually given before the sides are folded and grommets are added. Measure the distance between the grommets along the sides. When you install the tarp as a privacy screen, the long sides should run horizontally and the short sides should run vertically.
2.Cut two pieces of electrical metallic tubing (EMT) or galvanized rigid conduit (GRC) so they are one-third longer than the short sides of the tarp. Use a hacksaw or circular saw with a carbide blade to cut through the conduit. The extra length is needed for burying the poles and holding them rigidly. If the short side of the tarp measures 6 feet, which would make a 6-foot privacy screen, cut the poles 8 feet long.
3.Measure and mark the ground for the vertical pole position, which should be equal to the length of the tarp's long side, plus about 6 inches. Drive the poles into the ground to the proper depth -- one-third the height of the tarp. Hold a scrap two-by-four block over the top of the pole and hit the block with a mallet to drive the pole into the ground. The block prevents damage to the end of the pole.
4.Push an EMT or GRC 90-degree elbow fitting onto the ends of each vertical pole; face the open ends of the elbows inward. Tighten the screws on each elbow fitting to secure it to the poles.
5.Measure the distance between the inside hubs of the elbow fittings and cut a third piece of EMT or GRC to this length. Push this pole into the open ends of the elbow fittings and tighten the screws to hold it in place.
6.Hold the long side of the tarp up to the horizontal top pole; have two helpers hold it for you. Pull out any slack in the tarp.
7.Secure the tarp to the top pole, using 6-inch ball bungee cords through the tarp grommets. Push the elastic end of the ball bungee through the grommet and pull it through until the hard ball stops on the grommet. Wrap the bungee around the horizontal pole and bring it back down to the ball. Hook the looped elastic end of the ball bungee around the hard ball to hold the bungee in place. Start with the corner grommets and install the bungees to the center grommets last.
8.Attach 6-inch ball bungee cords to the side grommets and vertical poles, starting at the top and working to the bottom of the tarp. Wrap the bungee around the stake twice, if needed, to increase tension and hold the tarp taut.
8.Attach 6-inch ball bungee cords to the side grommets and vertical poles, starting at the top and working to the bottom of the tarp. Wrap the bungee around the stake twice, if needed, to increase tension and hold the tarp taut.

How to lessen the noise pollution of your pool - a precis
Tumblr media
To reduce the noise generated with pool pump noise reduction cover the aid of the pool centers as lots as viable, attention have to be paid to the design degree. For example, we'd be tempted to region the technical room as a long way away as feasible from the pool in order no longer to hear the machines: too long a distance will however boom the possibility of cavitation, resulting in a totally loud noise this is even extra demanding.
Everything is consequently a query of balance: a nicely sized hydraulic community, distances measured to respect water flow costs and avoid pressure drops, as well as devices set up on silent blocks and surrounded if feasible through plant life will be the fine guarantee for a pool that is as silent as viable.
Using our Soundproofing Acoustic Blankets to construct a 4-sided noise manipulate answer will substantially reduce sound. The noise reduction to be expected is quite a number 20 to 40 decibels. The better the development, weight of blankets and amount of soundproofing acoustic blankets used (the floor region) all element into your sound discount numbers. Ensuring all corners and edges are tight and that there are no gaps is a major issue. The length of the blankets wherein the amount of surface region this is to be had to expend and contain the noise is the other fundamental factor.
Reducing noise by means of 20 to forty decibels with this price-powerful, durable fabric is one of the first-class methods to solve noise control troubles in business, facility & industrial markets.
Our Soundproofing Acoustic Blankets come wellknown with grommets throughout pinnacle, mating Velcro alongside the vertical edges and corner seals.
Floor Mounted Acoustic Soundproofing Blanket Enclosure
Mark and label the region in which the enclosure will mount. Locate the Floor Mounted Base Hardware, do not connect to the floor but.
Slide roller tracks into music connectors on floor by squeezing ends of curler tune collectively whilst sliding into connectors. Lift this tune up and slip the music connectors directly to top of floor columns.
Line up the prevailing holes or drill holes (the usage of a 2/sixteen inch hex key) as wanted into the song for the screws to fasten into the holes through the track connectors.
Lift the panels up to the tune. You can use plastic ties to connect the panels to the tune via grommetted holes (already hooked up with the aid of All Noise Control) in every panel. Review the client furnished drawings for the best panel placement. Make positive which route to location the panels, make certain the Velcro seals are going to mate correctly. Apply and tighten all screws in connectors. Adjust hardware as needed for the panels to suit. Mount base to the floor. Connect panels with furnished vertically attached Velcro.
Determining The Type of Noise You Are Dealing With
It is vital to determine the form of noise your pool pump is making earlier than you are taking action to soundproof it. The two varieties of sound you may be coping with a pool pump are:
Structural: Structural noise occurs when elements of the pool pump are damn or shaking even as the pump is going for walks. To deaden structural noise, you'll probably need to use a decoupling product which include rubber isolation mounts to isolate two hard surfaces which can be smacking into each different.
Airborne: Airborne noise is most likely the reason you want to soundproof your pool pump. Examples of airborne noise are water transferring, lovers running, or different standard operational noises that the pump and its motor will make.
It is ordinary for pool pumps to make some noise as they are machines with a motor and transferring elements. If you be aware a alternate for your pool pump and it starts offevolved making a lot extra noise than regular, you probable have a broken pump. We are soundproofing experts here at Second Skin, no longer pool pump technicians, so in case you suspect your pool pump is broken, we endorse calling a pool maintenance professional.
If your pool pump is functioning flawlessly, but you need to quiet it down a bit, read on.

Yesterday I tried on everything and marked the placement for the lacing rings for the top of the sleeves for my Rhaenyra dress, and got through the handsewing of about 7.5 of the 18 rings. Rather than try to find rings to match the grommets, I decided to just flatten some grommets and washers together into rings that, of course, match the grommets on the armscyes perfectly.
Just like sewing down hooks and eyes, it's a little fiddly to get started but once each ring is secured in place the rest is easy. I could probably get away with a lot fewer stitches, but I wanted to cover any remaining raw edges of the grommet with thread, since this will be right up against my skin. And like a lot of other parts of this project, I'm definitely getting faster and more confident in it as I do more of them.
I also marked the placement for the dragon claw lacings on the front of the dress yesterday, since I want both those and the sleeves laced on before I mark the hem. I'm hoping I can get through sewing the rest of these rings on and maybe the first couple dragon claw beads before the end of the day today. I need to do some handsewing on the lacing cords for each as well, but I'm on track to have all the pre-hem stuff done before this weekend, so I can start in on the hem then.
Including today I have exactly six weeks to finish everything. Six weeks from today is Packing Day, so whatever state my various costumes are in, that's how they're getting packed. There are a few things left on my 'necessary' and 'quality of life' to-do lists for this cosplay before I'll be willing to switch gears and do the one major sewing project for my Harley cosplay, but baring any huge bumps in the road I'm feeling pretty good about getting through everything in the next 42 days. And the faster I get through things now (without cutting corners) the more detail work I'll be able to do in late August, so I'm going to keep pushing myself to get through as much in a day as I possibly can.

My Homelab/Office 2020 - DFW Quarantine Edition
Tumblr media
Moved into our first home almost a year ago (October 2019), I picked out a room that had 2 closets for my media/game/office area. Since the room isn't massive, I decided to build a desk into closet #1 to save on space. Here 1 of 2 shelves was ripped off, the back area was repainted gray. A piece of card board was hung to represent my 49 inch monitor and this setup also gave an idea how high I needed the desk.
Tumblr media
On my top shelf this was the initial drop for all my Cat6 cabling in the house, I did 5 more runs after this (WAN is dropped here as well).
Tumblr media
I measured the closet and then went to Home Depot to grab a countertop. Based on the dimensions, it needed to be cut into an object shape you would see on Tetris.
Tumblr media
Getting to work, cutting the countertop.
Tumblr media
My father-in-law helped me cut it to size in the driveway and then we framed the closet, added in kitchen cabinets to the bottom (used for storage and to hide a UPS). We ran electrical sockets inside the closet. I bought and painted 2 kitchen cabinets which I use for storage under my desk as well.
Tumblr media
The holes allowed me to run cables under my desk much easier, I learned many of these techniques on Battlestations subreddit and Setup Wars on Youtube. My daughter was a good helper when it came to finding studs.
Tumblr media
Some of my cousins are networking engineers, they advised me to go with Unifi devices. Here I mounted my Unifi 16 port switch, my Unifi Security Gateway (I'll try out pfSense sometime down the line), and my HD Homerun (big antenna is in the attic). I have Cat6 drops in each room in the house, so everything runs here. On my USG, I have both a LAN #2 and a LAN #1 line running to the 2nd closet in this room (server room). This shot is before the cable management.
Tumblr media
Cable management completed in closet #1. Added an access point and connected 3 old Raspberry Pi devices I had laying around (1 for PiHole - Adblocker, 1 for Unbound - Recursive DNS server, and 1 for Privoxy - Non Caching web proxy).
Tumblr media
Rats nest of wires under my desk. I mounted an amplifier, optical DVD ROM drive, a USB hub that takes input from up to 4 computers (allows me to switch between servers in closet #2 with my USB mic, camera, keyboard, headset always functioning), and a small pull out drawer.
Tumblr media
Cable management complete, night shot with with Nanoleaf wall lights. Unifi controller is mounted under the bookshelf, allows me to keep tabs on the network. I have a tablet on each side of the door frame (apps run on there that monitor my self hosted web services). I drilled a 3 inch hole on my desk to fit a grommet wireless phone charger. All my smart lights are either running on a schedule or turn on/off via an Alexa command. All of our smart devices across the house and outside, run on its on VLAN for segmentation purposes.
Tumblr media
Quick shot with desk light off. I'm thinking in the future of doing a build that will mount to the wall (where "game over" is shown).
Tumblr media
Wooting One keyboard with custom keycaps and Swiftpoint Z mouse, plus Stream Deck (I'm going to make a gaming comeback one day!).
Tumblr media
Good wallpapers are hard to find with this resolution so pieced together my own.
Tumblr media
Speakers and books at inside corner of desk.
Tumblr media
Speakers and books at inside corner of desk.
Tumblr media
Closet #2, first look (this is in the same room but off to the other side). Ran a few CAT6 cables from closet #1, into the attic and dropped here (one on LAN #1, the other on LAN #2 for USG). Had to add electrical sockets as well.
Tumblr media
I have owned a ton of Thinkpads since my IBM days, I figured I could test hooking them all up and having them all specialize in different functions (yes, I have a Proxmox box but it's a decommissioned HP Microserver on the top shelf which is getting repurposed with TrueNAS_core). If you're wondering what OSes run on these laptops: Windows 10, Ubuntu, CentOS, AntiX. All of these units are hardwired into my managed Netgear 10gigabit switch (only my servers on the floor have 10 gigabit NICs useful to pass data between the two). Power strip is also mounted on the right side, next to another tablet used for monitoring. These laptop screens are usually turned off.
Computing inventory in image:
Lenovo Yoga Y500, Lenovo Thinkpad T420, Lenovo Thinkpad T430s, Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 12, Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14, Lenovo Thinkpad W541 (used to self host my webservices), Lenovo S10-3T, and HP Microserver N54L
Tumblr media
Left side of closet #2
Tumblr media
**moved these Pis and unmanaged switch to outside part of closet**
Tumblr media
Since I have a bunch of Raspberry Pi 3s, I decided recently to get started with Kubernetes clusters (my time is limited but hoping to have everything going by the holidays 2020) via Rancher, headless. The next image will show the rest of the Pis but in total:
9x Raspberry Pi 3  and 2x Raspberry Pi 4
Tumblr media
2nd shot with cable management. The idea is to get K3s going, there's Blinkt installed on each Pi, lights will indicate how many pods per node. The Pis are hardwired into a switch which is on LAN #2 (USG). I might also try out Docker Swarm simultaneously on my x86/x64 laptops. Here's my compose generic template (have to re-do the configs at a later data) but gives you an idea of the type of web services I am looking to run: https://gist.github.com/antoinesylvia/3af241cbfa1179ed7806d2cc1c67bd31
20 percent of my web services today run on Docker, the other 80 percent are native installs on Linux and or Windows. Looking to get that up to 90 percent by the summer of 2021.
Basic flow to call web services:
User <--> my.domain (Cloudflare 1st level) <--> (NGINX on-prem, using Auth_Request module with 2FA to unlock backend services) <--> App <-->  DB.
If you ever need ideas for what apps to self-host: https://github.com/awesome-selfhosted/awesome-selfhosted
Tumblr media
Homelabs get hot, so I had the HVAC folks to come out and install an exhaust in the ceiling and dampers in the attic.
Tumblr media
I built my servers in the garage this past winter/spring, a little each night when my daughter allowed me to. The SLI build is actually for Parsec (think of it as a self hosted Stadia but authentication servers are still controlled by a 3rd party), I had the GPUs for years and never really used them until now.
Tumblr media
Completed image of my 2 recent builds and old build from 2011.
Retroplex (left machine) - Intel 6850 i7 (6 core, 12 thread), GTX 1080, and 96GB DDR4 RAM. Powers the gaming experience.
Metroplex (middle machine) - AMD Threadripper 1950x (16 core, 32 thread), p2000 GPU, 128GB DDR4 RAM.
HQ 2011 (right machine) - AMD Bulldozer 8150 (8 cores), generic GPU (just so it can boot), 32GB DDR3 RAM.
Tumblr media
I've been working and labbing so much, I haven't even connected my projector or installed a TV since moving in here 11 months ago. I'm also looking to get some VR going, headset and sensors are connected to my gaming server in closet #2. Anyhow, you see all my PS4 and retro consoles I had growing up such as Atari 2600, NES, Sega Genesis/32X, PS1, Dreamcast, PS2, PS3 and Game Gear. The joysticks are for emulation projects, I use a Front End called AttractMode and script out my own themes (building out a digital history gaming museum).
Tumblr media
My longest CAT6 drop, from closet #1 to the opposite side of the room. Had to get in a very tight space in my attic to make this happen, I'm 6'8" for context. This allows me to connect this cord to my Unifi Flex Mini, so I can hardware my consoles (PS4, PS5 soon)
Tumblr media
Homelab area includes a space for my daughter. She loves pressing power buttons on my servers on the floor, so I had to install decoy buttons and move the real buttons to the backside.
Tumblr media
Next project, a bartop with a Raspberry Pi (Retropie project) which will be housed in an iCade shell, swapping out all the buttons. Always have tech projects going on. Small steps each day with limited time.
