“Collection of Petals” - 2/18/2024
📍McGovern Centennial Gardens/ Woodland Garden, Houston, TX
Located near Hermann Park in Houston is the McGovern Centennial Gardens and the Woodland Garden, peaceful botanical gardens full of beautiful flowers. These gardens provide an escape from the urban living of the city. Among the pathways of towering trees, I found an array of flower species, including azaleas, bluebells, and camellias.
Each photo I captured showed not only the beauty of flowers, but also my bond with the natural world. In the moments I spent observing and admiring the intricate details of flowers, I felt present. Each delicate petal, every hue of the flowers, invited me into a space of peace and quiet. Through photography, I found a deeper appreciation for the world around me, reminding me to breathe and embrace the beauty of every moment. Each click of my camera is a reminder to enjoy the simply joys of life and find beauty in the details.

We do not "come into" this world; we come out of it, as leaves from a tree. As the ocean "waves," the universe "peoples." Every individual is an expression of the whole realm of nature, a unique action of the total universe.

🌿💦 🌤️ This Saturday offered another enchanting stroll through our local Pembury woods, a tranquil haven where the first whispers of spring began to unfold. As I meandered along the familiar paths, the woods came alive with the melodious symphony of birdsong, while the gentle warmth of the sun danced through the awakening branches. Nature’s subtle announcement of the changing season revealed itself in the delicate buds forming on the trees, promising the vibrant burst of life that spring brings. Embracing the essence of the season, I revelled in the simple joy of muddying my wellies, reconnecting with the earth beneath my feet. Standing by the robust forest stream, I inhaled the invigorating scent of spring, a refreshing blend of crisp air and the promise of blossoms yet to bloom – an experience that made this woodland walk truly memorable.

Feminine Energy...
Long, elegant, limbs. Graceful hands. Smooth, flowing yet powerful movement. I made space, closed my eyes and embraced the desire to experience this way of moving.
Tumblr media
I began to dance to an internal rhythm that was coming from deep within. No music just a surge or energy that started in my chest, then formed a vision of myself in my mind, that was familiar yet different.
The vision and feeling had started a few days prior. I thought it would pass but I was unable to ignore it. It was almost uncontainable. Turning and gliding, spiralling and soaring as if being set free - the urge to know this feeling through this style of movement was like a rebirth. I'd broken free from what felt like armour made of stone. In a vision it exploded off of my body releasing a silhouette that rose like a super hero.
I danced, breathed deeply, filling the space with my body. It was as though I was gathering some form of energy, air, strength - I danced this way for what felt like 10 - 15mins but what was actually more like 40mins.
Feeling alive and elated I couldn't believe how much was I sweating, how much I was smiling, it was wonderful.

It's been a couple of weeks now and everyday this understanding of this new found energy is bringing me to a closer understanding of my place in this world. How I'm connected to it - like the wind as I moved, I felt the power of the elements. Water, fire, earth, I feel a desire to be like each one. To be like water - not resisting, moving effortlessly. Now when I swim, my focus is on moving like water, not against it, not through it, but like it. Like a stream, then a river then the ocean. Fire, the radiating heat inspires me to sway and stretch and move slowly like tongues of flames.
A few days ago as I stepped outside the studio to clear my mind and to take a breath, walking down the tree lined path, I looked up at the leaves and felt that I saw them differently, I felt a connection to them so much so that I gently placed my hands on the trunk, pausing for a moment at each one as I walked back to the studio.

As a person who has grown up in one of the biggest cities in the world - London, knowing this feeling in me makes me realise that this is in all of us, deep within us - it's our nature.
As a believer in God, I feel in my heart that God didn't do this to me, this is God, this is experiencing this force and energy, harnessing it and being at one with it, with grace, awareness, love and gratitude.
Feminine Energy, a new present.

“Bliss in the Backyard” - 11/16/2023 + 11/18/2023
📍My Grandparent’s House
In the back of my grandparent’s house is their backyard with a forestry area where I took these photos. I found solace and connection with nature’s simple wonders as I discovered two little mushrooms and a turtle. The mushrooms, one with a vibrant red color with dots, and the other with distinct veins, seemed to show that beauty emerges from unexpected places. Along with that, I saw a gentle turtle slowly strolling along the green grass near their lake, its slow and deliberate movements taking my attention. It symbolized the use of patience in a fast-paced world. Finding these interesting things in nature was a reminder that even in small experiences, like exploring my grandparent’s backyard, there is always pleasures in nature to be discovered.

Curtain over conflict,
When you are triggered.  Instead of lashing out, remove yourself from the situation.  You may feel humiliated, try naming your thoughts.
You may feel unloved, show self compassion.  When you are feeling powerless, take a deep breathe.  When you feel numb, use grounding techniques.  If you are feeling judged; do not deflect, try going for a walk.
When you feel gaslit, hit a punching bag.  If you feel left out, self care.  when you feel betrayed, connect with nature.  If you feel loss of control, try journaling.

The Sun - a miracle among many!
The Sun – a miracle among many!
The scale and power of the Sun are quite something. It’s roughly 93 million miles from us, and you could fit over one million Earth-size planets inside it. It’s one of the many things in our galaxy that we mere mortals cannot fully comprehend, though we know there would be no us and not much else without it. Also, if Earth were slightly closer or further away from the Sun, Earth would either burn…

I feel like Lucy Gray’s fashion sense had an influence on the Capitol. It’s mentioned in the book that she’s wearing makeup, which is notable to Coriolanus and he wonders where she got it from since it was barely becoming accessible again in the Capitol. In the movie one of his classmates mocks what she is wearing, asking if she thinks she’s a clown. It isn’t common to dress like her, but she owns her own style and the Capitol LOVES her. Coriolanus, as he tries to get sponsors for her, makes the case that since she is Covey perhaps she isn’t really district at all, in fact she’s really more Capitol than anything… and perhaps it rubbed off. Perhaps her sense of extra-ness, her fun makeup even at the reaping, her colorful dress at a dark occasion….perhaps that’s one part of her legacy that never truly goes away, even when the name of Lucy Gray Baird is erased from the memories of the people of Panem.
