For anyone who enjoyed Secret Army, the sequel, Kessler, starts tonight at 9pm on Talking Pictures TV. A **40 year old SPOILER** in that Kessler does get away at the end of Secret Army but this is only 6 episodes and will be interesting to see if, or how, he is brought to justice.
Tumblr media
I think it may be the first time this sequel series has been repeated since originally shown in 1981.

Amsterdam
May 21 - Luke gives Ash a whole bouquet of roses onstage at the biggest venue played during that tour. The happiness of both Luke and Ash during this! The roses were only from Luke, Michael makes sure to point that out right away after Ash thanks all the guys for them.

May 22 - Luke and Ash go shopping in Amsterdam, but aren’t allowed to walk next to each other, and Luke is walking with his arm by his side while the female holds onto his arm. Luke and Ash both bought items at the same store.

⚜️ Armor Garniture of George Clifford (1558–1605), Third Earl of Cumberland, British, 1586
Made under the direction of Jacob Halder
Dimensions: H. 69 1/2 in. (176.5 cm); Wt. 60 lb. (27.2 kg)
Medium: Steel, gold, leather, textile
George Clifford (1558–1605) was appointed Queen’s Champion in 1590 and was made a Knight of the Garter two years later. A favorite of Queen Elizabeth I (reigned 1558–1603), he chose for the decoration of this armor the Tudor rose, the French fleur-de-lis (then part of the English arms), and the cipher of Elizabeth, two E’s back to back.
The Cumberland armor is the best preserved armor garniture from the royal workshops at Greenwich. It represents a technical and decorative high point of the Greenwich school.

René Lalique was born #OTD (6 April 1860 - 1 May 1945). Since it's also still #BatAppreciationWeek, here are a few of Lalique's many bats!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. bat anklet c.1898-9; gold, enamel, antique & rose diamond, opal 2. bat ring c.1899; silver, enamel, moonstone, gold both Musée des Arts décoratifs
Both these pieces were commissioned as gifts for American writer Natalie Clifford Barney (1876-1972), who was openly lesbian; bats were a Fin de siècle symbol of homosexuality. But they were also popular Art Nouveau motifs thanks to Japonisme. Here is another example:

3. Ring c.1901, gold, blue enamel, sapphire
And another, this one paired with another popular Art Nouveau animal:

4. "Butterflies and Bats" pocketwatch, c. 1899-1900; gold, enamel, moonstone.Via Christie's (sold in 2002 for US$207,500)

I’m probably not gonna tag this with anything so those who see it get to see it I guess, but uh… I’m probably gonna step away from Tumblr for a day or two? It feels weird posting my bullshit about my little OC’s rn in this exact moment, but also I didn’t want my most recent post to be the last post I have before I dip out for a few days, cause that’s not the vibe I want my online presence to have, so uh… what’s a history fact I can share-
Did you know that the term “Teddy Bear” was originally a political statement? “Teddy’s Bear” was a reference to a tied and wounded black bear that US President Theodore Roosevelt refused to shoot because it was “unsportsmanlike”, and the term (written with a nickname he notoriously hated) was intended to be satirizing his decision in the media by a political cartoonist of the time. It just so happened that a man who made stuffed animals (or maybe his wife did? I can’t remember) saw the newspaper comic and decided to dedicate one of their plush toys to the President, and his stance against hunting the trapped bear. After naming it “Teddy’s Bear”, that was the name that became associated with the common design of stuffed bear toy! I think someone made something similar in Germany at the same time but the name never stuck. But yeah that’s a cute little history story which I’m pretty sure is mostly historically accurate. There’s records and stuff I think, I just am not in the headspace to find them-
Anyway I hope you all enjoyed this little history fact for the meantime, I’ll be back to tumblr sooner or later :D
(edit: I did research cause I’m a nerd and can’t help myself. I found the cartoon, it’s was made by Clifford Berryman in 1902, and the stuffed toy was made by Morris and Rose Mitchtom, Russian-Jewish immigrants who lived and worked out of Brooklyn in the early 20th century)
