So I’m the last idiot to realize Orlagh’s threats were coming true in the order in which they were foretold. Nicasia spilled Cardan’s blood when she fires that crossbow at the beginning of The Wicked King. So much emphasis is placed on discussing the lover she was aiming for that it’s easy to forget that the High King was at least struck because flowers bloomed where his blood was spilled.
Jude, as a mortal, is often referred to as Daughter of Dirt. While everyone focused on keeping Oak safe because Oak is Cardan’s blood relative, Orlagh stole his senechal, Cardan’s ally whom most Fae believe belongs amongst the mud and clay, because she is far beneath them. The warning never meant his Lands. She stole that which is most valuable to him that is the Fae-equivalent of dirt. She stole his Jude.
So I’m once again left wondering what the third and final warning refers to. The last few sentences above indicate the folk take at least some part of this threat seriously. But by the end of TWK it seems as though Cardan is definitely taking every letter of it for what it is.
Is that why he married Jude? Is that why he sent her away? How could those last lines of rhyme be interpreted differently? I have so many questions because I only just realized I overlooked the obvious.

Frank of Ireland
Frank of Ireland, the new TV series from Brian Gleeson, Domhnall Gleeson, and Michael Moloney, is out today.
Frank of Ireland is a physical and ridiculous brand of humor with an original twist. Brian Gleeson, stars as Frank Marron, a 32-year-old catastrophe; a misanthropic fantasist in arrested development who’s convinced that the world owes him. He’s also our hero. Frank is newly single and still lives at home with his mother, Mary. He’s a self-proclaimed musician with a tenuous hold on reality, and hasn’t written a song or played a gig in years. His ex-girlfriend Áine has just found a new boyfriend, and Frank may be finding that a tad difficult. Luckily, Frank has a loyal best friend, Doofus, whose full-time job is clearing the debris left in Frank’s wake. Set in an idyllic suburb of Dublin, Frank of Ireland is the hilarious story of a man’s hapless search for respect, as he struggles to grow up and get his life together, and hopefully not burn everything to the ground in the process.
Big Shot
Big Shot, the new TV series from David E. Kelley and Dean Lorey, is out today.
After getting ousted from his job in the NCAA for throwing a chair at a referee, a hothead men’s basketball coach Marvyn Korn must take a job at Westbrook School for Girls, a private all-girls high school, in an effort to redeem what’s left of his career and reputation.
