Book Review: A Silent Hope by Madisyn Carlin
The past few weeks have been pretty rough. When I signed up to ARC read A Silent Hope, I didn’t expect to be accepted into the ARC team, but Madi graciously let me into the team. Words cannot express how much I needed to read this book. Hope Ever After, it’s an apt name; I needed the glimmers of hope I got from reading this book. I LOVE fairy tale retellings, but I love retellings of…

Blessed Kid Wes: A Rising Star in Christian Rap
Blessed Kid Wes is a 21-year-old Christian rapper from Baytown, Texas, who is making waves in the rap scene with his catchy and meaningful songs. He started rapping at the age of 15, inspired by his faith and his passion for music. He describes his style as “a mix of old school and new school, with a touch of gospel and soul”.
Blessed Kid Wes has released several singles and albums, such as Lookin 4 God, Letters to God, and God’s Plan. His songs tackle topics like grace, hope, love, and justice, as well as his personal testimony and struggles. He says he wants to use his music to glorify God and spread His message to the world.
Blessed Kid Wes is also active on social media platforms, such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, where he shares his music and his faith with his fans. He also does some fun and creative challenges, collaborations, and reactions. He says he enjoys interacting with his fans and hearing their feedback and stories.
Blessed Kid Wes discovered his passion for music when he was 13, but he didn’t start making music until he was 19. He grew up in Deer Park, Texas, where he had a lot of memories and experiences that shaped him as a person and an artist. He recalls freestyling in the backyard on Jackson Street, working at McDonald’s, and fishing with his grandpa. He credits his grandpa for teaching him the value of hard work and Jesus for giving him a moral code and a purpose.
Blessed Kid Wes has a lot of passion and vision as an artist. He also wanted to be a therapist at one point in time, but he realized that he can help people in general through his music and glorifying God. He balances his music career and his personal life by treating them as activities that he enjoys and that bring him happiness in Christ. He has aspirations as an artist to reach people’s hearts by including Jesus in his conversations.
Blessed Kid Wes has faced some challenges as a Christian artist, such as separating from anything remotely worldly and avoiding legalism. He struggles a lot with moral scrupulosity, which is a form of OCD that involves excessive concern about right and wrong1. He says he spends hours and hours getting caught up in his mind, trying so hard to be perfect. He says he looks at it more like looking at the world differently, rather than as a condition. He copes with his struggles by relying on his faith, his music, and his support system.
Blessed Kid Wes is a talented and inspiring artist who is not afraid to express himself through rap. He is a rising star in the Christian rap genre, and he has a bright future ahead of him. If you are looking for some fresh and uplifting Christian rap, you should definitely check out his music and follow his journey. You won’t regret it!

Since I use tumblr as my personal (one person) book club, here’s the book I just finished.
Tumblr media
Surprisingly, I really liked it. I like Christian romance, but I do NOT like Amish Christian romance (which sadly seems to be 50% of Christian romance books). But, I LOVE fairy tale retellings so this one got checked out of the library.
It was a cute little story about an Amish girl named Annabelle (belle for short) who marries the lonely, scarred recluse named Adam to save her fathers farm. And then she slowly breaks him out of his shell, teaches him to trust God, and they fall in love. She’s also friends with 2 other girls named Ella and Sadie who I think are supposed to be Cinderella and Snow White.
I had to admire Belle’s bravery and trust in God. She was also a powerhouse of a housewife. “Oh I’ll just clean this house that’s been abandoned for 20 years in 4 days” hmmm don’t know if I could do that, but you go girl. I liked her principles. Even though she didn’t want to marry Adam, once she decided to, she kept her promise even in the face of ridicule from the town.
I didn’t love Adam, he was pretty angry and kinda mean, and really entitled, but I guess that’s fitting with the fairytale. I felt like his redemption arc was a bit fast to be fully complete, but then, it has to wrap up within the story timeline so it’s ok. He was pretty sweet by the end.
Also, it was heavily based on the Disney version, which isn’t bad per say, but I like fairy tale retellings that draw more from the original source material.
Overall I give it 7/10. I liked it and was hooked throughout the story. It’s nothing deep or super memorable, but If you like Christian fairy tale retellings (a niche genre) you’d like this one.

Review - “In Search of a Prince“ by Toni Shiloh
FIVE STARS
Hello, friends! Yesterday morning (7th January) I finished reading this rather excellent (very excellent, actually) novel which I started in about October 2022.
I’m counting this as the first book I’ve read in 2023, because it is definitely the first book I’ve finished this year, but also because I did read more of it this year than last. It’s a 2023 book!
Pages: 384
Genre: New Adult Christian Romance.
Brielle, a teacher living in her native NYC, discovers that her estranged father - now dead - was in fact the Crown Prince of Ọlọrọ Ilé, a West-African island nation. Now that her grandfather, the King of Ọlọrọ Ilé, is terminally ill, he needs an heir more than ever. Brielle must choose: take on the role of Crown Princess (and ultimately Queen of Ọlọrọ Ilé), or let the crown pass to her great uncle, the King’s brother. But wait! Embracing her life as heir to the throne is even more complicated than first Brielle realised. In order to inherit, she must be married before the King dies... and he doesn’t have long. Will Brielle find a suitor before time runs out... or will she find a way to take the throne anyway?
The main theme of this book - as you’d expect from a Christian Romance novel - is faith. Brielle puts her life in God’s hands, and her decision to do this links together every other choice she makes throughout the story. Love, identity and duty underscore the novel. Love, in the friends and family who support Brielle through her trials. Duty, in the way Brielle embraces stewardship of Ọlọrọ Ilé and determines to act always in the best interests of her people. Identity, in the way Brielle struggles to define herself as either “of Ọlọrọ Ilé” or “of the USA”, but always has her faith. In the end, it is love of God, not allegiance to any particular country, that forms the basis of Brielle’s identity and all her behaviours.
This book is like the adult version of “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement“ film. What I found really interesting was the contrast between Brielle’s experience as a newly-discovered princess, and Mia’s. Brielle’s family and her Royal Household work hard to ensure her identity is kept under wraps so that she can decide for herself whether she wants to be a princess. Mia doesn’t have that protection; she’s hounded by the press everywhere she goes both in the USA and in Genovia, and is given no privacy while she comes to terms with being a Crown Princess.
This is the first Christian Romance book I’ve read in quite a while (I think the last one was “When Calls the Heart” by Janette Oke, back in 2021) and it’s a great re-introduction to the genre. It’s very enjoyable, and makes me not only want to read more by the same author, but more books like this in general. It wasn’t quite my thing in the first few pages, but it was good enough for me to stick with it, and by the end of the book I was already sure I want to read it again. I can tell I’ll like it even more now it’s familiar! I might even read this a couple of times in 2023, and I can see myself coming back to it again and again in future. Dare I say I might have a new addition to my favourite books?

Review: Hooked on You
Riley McAllister left the small Arkansas town of Maple Falls after graduating high school, hoping to make it big in New York as a mixed media artist. She’s still pursuing her dream when her grandmother begs her to come home and help her manage the store while she recovers from a broken leg she got after sliding into third base during a church softball game (she was safe, by the way). Riley…

📚 Fiesta Moon by Linda Windsor
This is the second book of the series, and this one follows the incorrigible, bad boy brother who is basically forced to go to Mexico to help repair a broken down hacienda. He’s doing this for a children’s home his family company supports, and the director of the home is, of course, the woman he ends up falling for. This one is better than the first book. The danger and mystery in this one seem more real. I wasn’t a huge fan of the way the relationship developed, but other than that I don’t have any qualms with this one. It’s sweet, well-written and very easy to read.
Rating: 6/10

"you make me feel very special."
"You are special, so I would hope you're feeling that way."
"It's a fairly new feeling, honestly. Thank you."
"Well, somebody needed to come along and show ya, and I'm glad I've gotten to."
"Ooh…You're a charming fellow, you know that?"
"You think so?"
"That was an excellent line. I can't believe it was said to me. That's something you read in books or hear in movies."
"Haha, well thank you. But it was very fully meant. Not just as a line."
"And that makes it that much better."
"I'm glad you're feeling this way now, but I am sorry it hasn't really happened sooner. You've deserved it for sure."
"You were worth the wait."
"Talk about sounding like it's out of a book."
