What are your favourite books of the year?
[ this ask was sent in 2023, I'm just depressed and also a bit lazy. I ended up listing 14 books instead of the top 5. because I love books and because I would rather die than shortlist these. ]
❤ = author liked my online review
🦋 = HIGHLY recommend reading CWs
JAN-JUNE
The Wicked and The Willing by Lianyu Tan 🦋❤
GENRE: LGBTQ, adult, historical, gothic romance
A young woman in 1920s colonial Singapore is hired as maidservant to a mysterious European heiress in a coastal manor: only to realise something evil is afoot. This was interesting–quite a graphic, disturbing and violent take on the classic vampire motif; kind of like if Carmilla and The Handmaiden had a demon child. Has two different love interests + endings to choose from (hydrogen bomb hot butch vs coughing baby racist white woman). 4⭐
Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers
Genre: LGBTQ, adult, contemporary
A young Black PhD scholar deals with academic burnout, mental health and familial pressures while navigating a new marriage with a radio host from Brooklyn. Look this may be a bit cheesy and some of the writing gives Tumblr poetry but I don't care because I did cry and it did help me during a difficult time of my life. If you like stories about queer women, self-discovery and big city loneliness, you'll enjoy this. 5⭐
Pachinko by Min Jin Lee
Genre: adult, historical fiction
Sprawling intergenerational historical novel about a family of Korean immigrants in Japan through the last two centuries. Explores Korean diasporic identity and what it means to belong to a motherland, through marriage, family, food, culture, education and propaganda during times of war. Always will recommend this as one of the best and most well-written historical novels ever. I respect and love the author very much. 4.5 ⭐
Severance by Ling Ma
Genre: adult, dystopia, speculative fiction
A woman living a lacklustre, lonely life and working at a dead-end job in an NYC publishing house continues going to office during a global lockdown in hopes of her severance paycheck. I love horror books about capitalism and labour exploitation, and the anxiety that this one gave me... Sometimes, minimum wage corporate work is scarier than a zombie apocalypse. 4⭐
Snow Flower and The Secret Fan by Lisa See ❤
Genre: adult, historical fiction (LGBTQ??)
In 19th century China, two girls from different villages become intimate friends after a foot-binding ceremony. I know See has her issues but I refuse to take any criticism for this book. In fact, I'm not speaking about this book without going to therapy immediately afterwards. Girl best friends will literally become tragic doomed narrative foils rather than have sex. If there ever was a story that EXEMPLIFIED Two Slow Dancers by Mitski btw. 5⭐
When I Hit You by Meena Kandasamy 🦋❤
Genre: adult, literary fiction, social commentary
An unnamed woman reflects on her abusive marriage with a leftist individual in South India. This book was so sickening, so rage-filled and a must-read for feminists all over the world. It's such a nauseatingly realistic story of surviving abuse, of looking back on lost girlhood with anger and grief. Also, a classic breakdown of Indian upper class male intellectualism: the comrade dadas who are content to spout Marxist theory while abusing and silencing women. This one's a favourite. 5⭐
Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo
Genre: LGBTQ, young adult, historical, romance
In 1950s, McCarthy-era San Francisco, a young Chinese schoolgirl secretly explores underground lesbian bars with her classmate. What a sweet story, what an excellent historical portrait of the Chinese American community, what a romantic, tender love letter to 50s butch femme love and lesbian bar culture during the Lavender Scare. Probably one of my top five lesbian fiction ever. 5⭐
JULY-DEC
Dear Senthuran by Akwaeke Emezi ❤
Genre: LGBTQ, memoir, speculative fiction, essays
Collection of essays, composed in the form of fragmented letters to the author's friends, family and lovers, sharing glimpses into their Igbo spirituality, childhood in Nigeria, gender affirmative healthcare, facing racism in USA and then catapulting to overnight fame with their debut novel. This is a love letter to trans queer artists of color in the 21st century. I am happy to be alive at the same time as Emezi. Highly recommend this book for aspiring authors. 4.5⭐
A Dowry of Blood by ST Gibson ❤
Genre: LGBTQ, adult, horror, gothic romance
A retelling of Dracula's brides, as narrated by his first wife, Constanta. Absolutely sinfully and shamelessly devoted to decadence, eroticism and the shenanigans of toxic evil bisexual vampire polycule. Some books work simply because of a skilful combination of deranged bisexuals, aesthetics and stunning prose: this one is a masterclass in both. Also the author is a fan of The Secret History, Saltburn and Deathless, like lol.... sounds about right. 5⭐
The Spirit Bares Its Teeth by Andrew Joseph White 🦋
Genre: LGBTQ, young adult, horror, historical gothic fiction
In Victorian London, where the veil between the living and death has thinned, and secret societies keep silent vigil over spirits, a young transgender boy is forcefully sent to a girls' sanatorium to cure his feminine "sickness", but instead gets embroiled in a terrifying mystery. True story: I was up till dawn, with my lights on, listening to positive affirmation ASMR to recover from this book. Genuinely terrifying historical gothic/medical medical thriller. Central t4t romance. 5⭐
Chlorine by Jade Song 🦋❤
Genre: LGBTQ, young adult (?), contemporary, speculative fiction
A teenage Chinese-American girl muses on competitive swimming, diasporic identity, puberty, queer crushes, and mermaids. This was an incredible debut novel- a bloody, gory little masterpiece of scales, teeth and fucked up teen girls. I don't usually enjoy "girlhood is grief, woe is me" type teenage horror stories, but the way Asian American identity, queerness and 1990s nostalgia is woven into a weird speculative horror modern fairytale feels insanely creative. If you like the films of Julia Ducournau, read this. 5⭐
Lucky Red by Claudia Cravens ❤
Genre: LGBTQ, adult, historical, Western, thriller
In 1880s Kansas, a young former ranch girl forced to work at a brothel ends up falling hard and fast for the dashing, daredevil female bounty hunter who rides into town from the prairie. Let me just say one thing- Western toxic yuri revenge thriller ft the most damningly hot older butch lesbian character ever (AWOOGA)!!!!!! When I say toxic yuri this is what I want. Need a live-action film so bad you don't even know. Good God. 4.5⭐
Breaking Character by Lee Winter
Genre: LGBTQ, adult, contemporary, romance
An icy, British former theatre legend and her much younger, sunshiny LA co-star are forced to fake a relationship for the tabloids, to increase views on their long-running tv medical drama and to also get the movie deal of their lives. Great portrayal of toxic celebrity shipping culture, entertainment industry pressures, workplace misogyny and fan worship. See, when tropes are actually executed well, the romantic chemistry between the leads is off the charts. Chemistry, sexual tension, Hollywood drama and deliciously slow burn sexy times. Tbh a pure comfort read. 5⭐
Wherever Is Your Heart by Anita Kelly ❤
Genre: LGBTQ, adult, contemporary, romance
Two middle-aged butches– a bartender and a truck driver– pine for each other at a queer karaoke bar downtown, during Pride Month. I know Anita Kelly is a sweetheart and I recommend all of their other works, but this one got me so emotional!!!! It was so tender and intimate, and portrayed older butch lesbians in their 40s-50s; wistful, romantic and gently realistic. Also, canon demisexual lesbian rep!! 5⭐

The Evermore Grimoire: Slayers
Xin Rohn was a Slayer active in China during the Boxer Rebellion who was killed by a vampire named Spike. In 1900's, the Whirlwind (a powerful group of vampires) were also in China; Spike would later state he was obsessed with Slayers, and sought Xin Rong out to fight her. She and Spike fought in a Buddhist temple, and Xin Rong managed to give him a permanent scar over his left eyebrow with her sword. Highly skilled in armed combat, the Slayer had the vampire pinned up against a wall, ready to stake him, but an explosion outside the temple rocked the building and she lost control of the situation. Spike was able to knock her stake from her hand, catch her, and bite her neck. When Buffy Summers questioned him how he killed Xin Rong, he explained: "Lesson the first: a Slayer must always reach for her weapon. I've already got mine." Xin Rong's last dying words were, in Mandarin: "Tell my mother I'm sorry." to which Spike replied: "Sorry love, I don't speak Chinese." He threw her to the ground and left her body in the temple, having killed the first of two Slayers that would give him notoriety as a Slayer hunter.

Redacted Headcannons (Shaw Pack and Solair Clan)
Asher is Chilean (meaning his parents are from Chile)
Sweetheart is Chinese (born in China, their parents were farmers, Sweetheart helped their father grow crops)
David is half American (his dad) and half middle eastern (his mom is Syrian)
Babe is half Japanese (their father) and half Dutch (their mother), but their father was abusive to their mother when she was pregnant, so the mom was scared he would hurt her child too when it gets born, so she abandoned Babe somewhere in Japan, and a Korean family visiting Japan found them and took them in, but the Korean family lives in Australia, so now Babe mostly and usually identifies as Korean and Australian, but when they found out about their bio parents, they learned Dutch and Japanese on top of them already knowing Korean and English
Babe and Angel have known each other since they were six, they kept the friendship for their whole lives but they couldn’t always be together since they had different lives, but when they started dating Asher and David they didn’t know about each others parter until David and Ash decided to introduce them to one another, they realized that life had brought them together yet again and from that moment on they knew they were soulmates They were like “omg this is the guy you were texting me about” “who knew that our boyfriends are best friends” “I didn’t know that when David said Asher now has a mate it meant YOU” “how have you been? it seems like fate keeps bringing us back together, my soulmate”
Gabe met David’s mom on a trip to Syria, a trip that he happened to take along with William, they coincidentally met at the airport and decided to might as well do the trip together
Lovely is half Punjabi (their mom) and half Iraqi (their dad)
Alexis had a daughter when she was human, but when she turned her daughter was still growing, her daughter died a 16 years old in a CAR ACCIDENT with her mom in which the daughter was a really good healer and promised her mom that she could heal herself and that she didn’t need to be turned but died before she could even try
In the early days of Vincent’s vampiracy, he lost control of his emotions with William a few days after William evoked him to feed, and ended up killing a pregnant woman by snapping her neck (stole this from the vampire diaries)
This might be controversial but what if Porter was a Jew survivor of the Holocaust (when he was human)
Babe and Angel both know 20 languages, they studied them together, but there are two sets of languages in which they differ, Angel knows Russian and Spanish but doesn’t know Dutch and Korean (but they know a little cause they used to hang out with babe and their Korean family, and babe is starting to officially teach them Korean now), while Babe knows Dutch and Korean but not Russian or Spanish ( Asher is teaching them a few words in Spanish, and they have an awful accent in it, I mean they speak 20 languages fluently and with barely any accent but their Spanish accent is god awful lol)
William has only been in love 3 times in his entire 500 years of living
That’s it for today but I got more I need to share, so maybe next time!

MXTX Interview with Risa Wataya for Subaru Magazine P.7
Which creative works influence you:
Risa: Please tell us which creative works influence you.
Moxiang: Professor Jin Yong's wuxia novels (*)! Professor Jin Yong is my number one teacher in the craft of writing. His skill in crafting wuxia stories, his artistic palate, the sheer intellectual depth and philosophical complexity of his stories and characters. Professor Jin Yong's wuxia novels have a profound and immeasurable influence on all modern Asian creative professionals.
(*: the legendary late professor Jin Yong. He's not as well-known in English-speaking spheres due to the complexity of his works being very difficult to translate to languages outside of the Sino-Tibetan language family. But in Asia, he's a literature titan. He's comparable to Tolkien in that he laid the foundation and codified the tropes of wuxia as a modern genre (alongside Gu Long and Liang Yusheng) and brought about the first and subsequent wuxia waves, and that there's also university courses and entire research field on Jin-Yong-ology. However, he's a much more prolific writer, having produced 15 wuxia series, among which 14 are of comparable length or longer than the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit combined.
It would be no lie to say there's not a single creative professional in Asia that is not influenced by Jin Yong in some way, shape, or form.
One of Jin Yong's trademarks is the overwhelming, often obsessive, sometimes destructive love that his characters exhibit. There's not one work of his that is not threaded through with larger-than-life romance, not just among the protagonists, but also among the villain characters. The trend of modern Chinese literature, especially wuxia and xianxia, to portray larger-than-life romance can be traced directly to Jin Yong's influence.
Interestingly, he's also credited as having accidentally created the proto icon of danmei as a genre.
I'm sorry. I'm so excited I want to cry. Professor Jin Yong is also my first teacher in the craft of writing. It turns out we all step in the footsteps of the giant, huh, Moxiang?)
I also watch a lot of 90s Hongkong movies. Do you know "Shaolin Soccer'?
Risa: I do know!
Moxiang: Stephen Chow's comedy movies, Tsui Hark's wuxia, and fantasy horror movies. Lam Ching-ying's walking corpse movies. I love all of these.
Risa: That's closer to jiangshi (*) than modern zombies.
(*: a type of Chinese walking corpse. The name literally translates to stiff corpse. Jiangshi is typically translated into Chinese hopping vampire in English due to their similarity to Western vampires. They are the dead that comes back to life. They suck yang energy from living people. They fear the smell of garlic. Etc... Jiangshi has real-life basis in an extinct profession in China: the corpse walker, i.e., people who made a living out of 'walking' corpses back to their home provinces in times of war and chaos. Corpse walkers are mentioned in Liao Yiwu's historical book 'The Corpse Walker')
Moxiang: That's right. That's right. A hopping jiangshi. I watch a lot of such movies. Some movies are from before I was born, such as 'A Chinese Ghost Story' and 'Sword Man' (*). I have watched them more than ten times! If I meet someone who has never watched those movies before, I will enthusiastically drag them along while saying, "Let's watch them together!" My novel bears obvious and immense influence from these movies... For example, the funny scenes in my story are very close to the atmosphere of comedy scenes from Hongkong cinema. Or the walking corpses in my story. My inspiration came from these undead corpses. In the novel, I mentioned using glutinous rice as a cure for corpse powder. This knowledge came from the movie "Professor Jiangshi" (named 'Mr. Vampire' in English in the Wikipedia).
(*: Both of these movies are Tsui Hark's movies and are counted among the top 100 best movies of Asian cinema. They are known for their fantasy elements, eroticism, and homoeroticism. These movies came from a time where Asian cinema was pushing boundaries left, right, and center. Swordsman and its spin-off were adapted from Professor Jin Yong's The Smiling Proud Wander. The very same work in which he accidentally created the proto-icon of danmei. I wrote an essay about this as part of danmei history last year. I will make a separate post after this.)
Risa: To be honest, when I reached the part where glutinous rice was used to cure corpse powder in 'Mo Dao Zu Shi,' I was moved.
Moxiang: Ah? A Japanese author saw the glutinous rice scene in my novel and linked it to jiangshi movies... That is so surprising!
Risa: When I was young, I watched a lot of jiangshi movies. I love them!
Moxiang: I feel increasingly close to Ms. Risa now. As for other foreign literature, Emily Bronte's 'Wuthering Heights' greatly influences me. When I read it during elementary school, I was shaking from excitement. Perhaps because of the influence of Wuthering Heights, that whenever I see complex, intertwining love-hate situations, I feel such joy and nostalgia in my heart.
There's also my favorite childhood mangaka Rumiko Takahashi! This kind of light-hearted, rowdy atmosphere where characters argue and rib each other is so cute! I especially like 'Ranma 1/2'. I think it's the best comedy manga. Other than that, 'Inuyasha' can only be described by the word romantic. Romantic! To this day, Kikyo is still a goddess in my heart.
Risa: Although 'Ranma 1/2' is a work that features China in it, what do Chinese people think about it?
Moxiang: The first thought that comes to my head is 'charming!' After that is probably fond familiarity. This work (Ranma 1/2) features many Chinese elements. I feel that the distance between our hearts is lessened.
To be Continued (The next part will be the last)

50 Days of HypnoKink - Day 49: Hypno in Media
My heavens... we made it to the finish line. Tomorrow is the final day.
I wanted to save an obvious one for the end because I do so enjoy MC in fiction so very much. So much, in fact, that I made a Twitter thread with 110 recommendations and never even came close to emptying my resources.
I know so many of these scenes, both that Twitter thread and this page are skimming the surface.
I'll be using some of those recommendations here but let's divide by category:
Film
So let's get the obvious out of the way. You have
Trance
Tumblr media
A Danny Boyle thriller with a terrible plot and Rosario Dawson as a hypnotherapist trying to get hidden information from James McAvoy's mind. Silly movie but one that doesn't get brought up a lot. Dawson learned hypnosis to get into the role.
Candyman
Tumblr media
Horror movie in which the director literally hypnotized the actress so any time she was being stalked by the titular killer she looked completely entranced. Link above is an interview discussing this.
Hypnotic
Tumblr media
HORRIBLE movie on Netflix but Sleepyhead and I have hosted a number of watch parties and let me tell you, this is the PERFECT movie to watch with a bunch of rowdy hypnokinksters. The therapist is unethical to a laughable degree and his office looks like it's inside of the Death Star. He's a living breathing red flag. The movie does have a really hot freeze scene, a good ragdoll and the dollification sequence. It's just enjoyable because it's terrible. Check CWs first though, this movie has a bunch of things that can make it an uncomfortable viewing experience.
The Great Hypnotist
Tumblr media
This is a Not For Daja movie. A Chinese movie that doesn't get brought up a lot. Like Trance above it is a thriller with some twists and turns that I don't really want to spoil.
Stir of Echoes
Tumblr media
A visualization of a dissociation induction designed to make a person view events on a screen so they are separate from the memory. It's a remarkably well done scene.
Now You See Me 1/2
Tumblr media
The hypnosis in these movies is STUPID and I love it. The first movie has a punchline that every time Mark Rufallo's character makes a frustrated comment people who Woody Harrelson has hypnotized will start acting as if they're in an orchestra. Second movie has a twin Woody Harrelson as an evil hypnotist and he uses a pizza box as an evil induction. It's amazing.
Sherlock Holmes Woman in Green
Tumblr media
This induction is one of the coolest I've seen in a film and I try my hardest to channel the energy of this when I am doing a relaxation focused scene.
TV
Charlies Angels
Tumblr media
This is bar none my favorite hypnosis scene in any fiction. The typewriter induction is amazing, the hypnotist has such a smooth voice, the entranced gazes are lovely. It's just perfect. Heck, the link above is "hypnosis scenes" from the episode and is 26 minutes long. From a single episode of television.
Doctor Who
Tumblr media
Sarah Jane gets hypnotized so often that I could make a list purely from her.
Legion
youtube
I just wanna link this one as it's one of those scenes that works so much better without context and the aesthetics are incredible. Plus who doesn't like Aubrey Plaza?
Quick Bonus Animation Round
Carmen Sandiego (Neflix) has a ton of mind control including the bad end to the interactive movie.
Tumblr media
Totally Spies is a meme for a reason
Tumblr media
And this one is a reason many of us are here <3
Tumblr media
Comics
DC vs Vampires
Tumblr media
I think the page speaks for itself. "Hypnosis isn't lying, Diana. It's speaking to your vulnerability."
Korra
Tumblr media
This sequence of Asami, brainwashed to hate the avatar, being deprogrammed is so good that someone on AO3 did an incredible fan-fiction which may well be one of my favorite hypnokink stories of all time.
Super Mario Comic
Tumblr media
I bring this one up as it was one of my earliest moments of "...oh... this is kind of making me feel some kind of way."
Video Games
A note that a full directory of video games featuring Mind Control can be found at mindcontrol.fun the MC Games Wiki, run by @soveryverytired
Nyx Gaming (Featured game: Enthralled)
Tumblr media
Nyx do incredible games which are designed to hypnotize the viewer and their consent practices are wonderful. They recently teamed up with Secret Subject to release a vampire enthrallment game and let me tell you, there is not a single word in that synopsis that doesn't make me happy.
Mind Melting Massaging Machine
Tumblr media
The best tool for VR hypnosis. Upload custom files and program spirals, subliminals and chose between static spiral or headtracking. I have had so much fun with this over the years. There's a desktop version too but VR is optimal for this experience.
Spiral Clicker
Tumblr media
It's such a simple concept. Click on the character and watch their will go away. Spiral Clicker is backed with a fun little universe, fun characters both original and community sourced, amazing art and a clever little gameplay loop that is quite addictive. Careful, the game features a constant spiral, you may find yourself falling in to trance. Don't worry. The game will wake you up. You can even ask the game to include suggestions for you :)
The sequel is being worked upon now and I cannot wait <3
Music Videos
Anna Soares - Hypnodoll (NSFW)
youtube
Straight up just a song and music video about hypnokink. If you click anything in this thread, click this one.
Little Big - Hypnodancer:
youtube
Silly antics but a fun music video.
Pharrell Williams - Hypnotize U
youtube
It's just Pharrell hanging out in a mansion with his hypnotized harem.
Grimes - We Appreciate Power
youtube
It's dronekink baby.
Andamiro - Hypnotize
youtube
Maid hypnotizes their employer.
I could do so many more in all areas. But the point is, media is hypnohorny. I never went over advertisements (UK ones especially), books, musicals (Phantom and Next To Normal for instance), anime (Sailor Moon) or manga.
But I write about a bunch more in my Twitter thread.

The thing that bugs me about Cazador
Allow me to ramble about a thing that really bugs me about Cazador and his character design.
Let me start out with the fact, that it is super iffy that Cazador is the one recognizable east asian character in the entire game. At least from what I came across. And, you know. It is iffy if you take a minority and make their only representation the "sadistic vampire who wants to sacrifice 7000 mostly white people to become a god". I hope I don't have to explain that.
And yes, technically speaking... yeah, Karlach is technically also East Asian. With just one problem: Her being red-skinned and having the make-up very much hides this fact. Like, I did not realize this until I saw the mod that removed the make-up from the companions.
But outside of the basic issue with the trope... Well, look. I do not think that the folks Larian were like: "Hehe, we will use this character to show how evil the Asians are!" or something like this. But the game very much shows that there was a lot of internalized biases. And be it just in the fact, that we barely come across non-white characters in the entire fucking game. All non-white characters are basically tokens.
And before someone comes in with: "Faerûn is based on medieval Europe!" First off: "Shut up." Second: Going by official DnD Lore Faerûn is a super diverse place, where you will find all sorts of Asian, Arab, and Black people. I mean, just look at the DnD movie, where they made an effort to have half of the cast be non-white. Like, the Faerûn that Larian depicts is basically the Faerûn of 3e, not 5e.
And then... Well, when it comes to Cazador, then there is the Early Access design.
Tumblr media
Now, this is actually where WotC stepped in and was like: "Yeah, you cannot do this." Officially by explaining that elves do not have facial hair. But I do imagine that someone at WotC actually looked at this design and was like: "... Do they realize that this is Fu Manchu?"
Because yeah, this design is simply just Fu Manchu. And for those who are not aware: Fu Manchu is a character popular in pulp fiction of the early 20th century, that arose mostly from Yellow Peril stereotypes.
He was a Chinese magician, who was up to all sorts of evil schemes, which suspiciously often involved sacrificing white people (mostly white women) to evil gods or demons. He made appearances in all sorts of media back then, including movies (where he obviously was portrayed by white actors in yellowface) and some off-brand Sherlock Holmes novels that were not written by Doyle but other writers.
Fu Manchu was also what the original Mandarin in the Marvel Comics was based on.
This is one of the Renditions of Fu Manchu in one of those off-brand Sherlock Holmes stories.
Tumblr media
And here is the earlier Mandarin design:
Tumblr media
And, like, I am sorry. But that stuff leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
Again, I do not really think that this stuff was done on purpose. My best guess is, that Cazador was either based on the Mandarin, or on some of the other "Chinese Magician" villains that some American Kung Fu movies put into their media in the 70s and 80s.
But I also think there was nobody at Larian who did any sort of sensitivity consulting when it came to the inclusion of non-white characters.

i finished vampire the masquerade bloodlines after chipping away at it for a couple weeks after work. Those first 2/3rds of the game are a genuine masterpiece, but man, that last third gets really, really weird and racist.
The thing is, is that I actually have very little to say about that first 2/3rds. It's just good. The design is great, it's well balanced, it's open ended, it has great characters. It's wonderful. This part of the game feels like a real, worthy successor to Deux Ex. There's just nothing more to say, I think.
...
And that's why I almost have a hard time believing it's written by the same people as the last bit. The whole game up to that point (up to just before chinatown) is pretty darn smartly written with some relatively cogent social commentary. The quality of the missions also takes a really, really steep dive in that section too (lots of run and gun hallways, lots of extremely buggy areas, shitty boss fights, etc. But that's honestly understandable because balancing the endgame of an ImSim is practically impossible). Idk, it feels like a totally different game. I could almost just forgive all of that though, if it weren't for the ungodly and seemingly genuine racism with regards to the east Asian vampires.
Like. Ok. If we're being VERY charitable and we just flatly forgive all of the misguided-though-not-malintentioned 2000s era attempts at humor-via-stereotype (dialogue options referencing "tentacles" directed at a young japanese woman; old chinese guys who are always loud and drunk; jingoistic WWII-surviving japanese soldier; Chinese businessman speaking in riddles and mentioning the I-Ching; so on and so on) the whole handling of the "chinese vampire" storyline is psychotically racist.
You first hear of these guys -- the Kuei-Jin, which I learn from the wiki is a portmanteau of the Mandarin word for ghost and a the Japanese word for person, which... ok. -- as being basically like animals. They slaughter who ever they see, lots of people in the bourgeois faction see them as a nuisance, the people in the anarchist faction see them as "invaders from the east," which already had me like "Jesus fucking Christ, maybe these anarchist guys aren't cool after all". But anyway, you go to Chinatown to talk to them and -- by my estimation -- they were basically the same as everyone else. They're protective of their territory, they're secretive, they're paranoid of outsiders... I mean, yeah, they're fucking vampires and apparently all the other vampires see them as sub-human, so yeah, I'd be paranoid and secretive around me too.
The thing is, is that you have this anarchist friend who you tell everything to -- Jack -- and I wanted to go tell him "hey, I don't think these guys are so bad. Maybe we misjudged them" or something like that. And there was a dialogue option along the lines of that, but when I said it, his response was something to the effect of "don't let them sweet talk you with their 'spiritual path' bullshit. That stuff ain't for /us/". Which, I heard and again, said "ah! Interesting writing decision! We're learning that Jack ALSO has flaws like everyone else! he's not just some perfectly cool, levelheaded badass -- he has unjustified prejudices just like everyone else!" So I continued the story under the assumption that, yes, while the surface level of the whole "Chinese vampire" thing was being handled in a really immature, racist way, and in-universe all the other factions seemed to see them as exactly that -- racist stereotypes of conniving, backstabbing Chinese mafia goons -- this was all setting up an interesting "let's all learn to put our cultural differences aside and defeat those rich assholes who want to rule LA"-style ending. This would not be the case.
There was a moment towards the end that I THOUGHT confirmed my suspicion. You are told by the leader of the bourgeois faction to convince the anarchist faction to ally with them so they can, together, take down the Kuei-Jin. Around this time you also are intercepted by the leader of the Kuei-Jin who straight up warns you "hey, that bourgeois guy set me up. He's about to set you up too. Be careful. I hope we can be friends in the future." So I get this information and go straight to the anarchist faction with the intention to say "Ok, bourgeois guys are obviously doing a power play. Now's the time to join with the Kuei-Jin and take them out. We'll settle our petty differences later." (Side note, yes, I understand they were recently at war, but war happens in these situations. The best way to prevent another war is actively making peace. Not by just constantly threatening to go BACK to war). But no such option was available. Instead, all the options were different variations on "Let's join with the bourgeois faction and kill those Chinese guys!" What? But I don't want to kill those guys! And I don't really trust either of these other factions either because the anarchists are racists and the bourgeois guys are, well, bourgeois guys.
So eventually the "ending-tron 3000" comes up in the form of a conversation with a taxi driver which, as far as ending-trons go, is pretty cute. If you decide to ally with the Kuei-Jin two things happen: one, everyone hates you because it's completely impossible to convince anyone that they are anything other than parasites, and two, they kill you in a cutscene and you die in the ocean, which, all things considered, is probably the worst possible way this whole story line could have been handled. There was an opportunity here to have an exceptionally interesting moment where you bring people together to fight in solidarity against those who seek to concentrate their power over the city and all it's inhabitants. There could have been an ending where you work together with the Kuei-Jin and the anarchists to get rid of the bourgeois faction, render the "anarchist" faction system redundant, and allow LA vampires to establish their own federated society where people can live where and how they please without the iron fist of some Ivory tower pretty boys telling everyone how to live their lives. You could establish a system of vampire democracy across LA, with all the benefits and negatives that it brings. Would LA then be crushed under the heel of the bourgeois faction coming in from other cities? Or would it be able to stand the test of time and serve as an example for other cities to rise up and do the same? There's some interesting stuff here, both politically and for individual characters as perhaps you have to work extra hard to get Jack and the rest of the anarchists to believe that the Kuei-Jin are, despite superficial differences, just vampires like they are and that they all share common interests.
Instead, the game goes hard in the other direction. It calls you an idiot for trusting those eastern invaders and basically says "you should have listened to everyone else when they were mumbling under their breath about how you can't trust those Kuei-Jin as far as you can throw them". i.e., you were an idiot for not being racist enough. Like, I can understand the general theme of "trust no one", since it permeates through the whole game, but to literally introduce a faction of "conniving foreigners" who everyone hates, and then to have that hate be perfectly justified just feels boring, hateful, and honestly like a waste of a third of what was otherwise a great, great game.
Anyway. The game is good. Great, even! It's really hard to make an ImSim, so even though the last third has some rough (ROUGH) design flaws and bugs, I'm happy to look past that. However, it's really easy to not just put Chinese people in your game and make them evil stereotypes that everyone rightfully hates, so that's harder to look past.
I would say the ideal way to experience the game is to marathon the first chapter up to downtown, play less and less frequently from downtown up until the end of hollywood or so, and gradually lose interest around the time that you're asked to go to Chinatown. I think if you did that, you'd end up remembering the game very fondly.

So you want to read about 2000s Harry Potter fandom drama
Let me introduce you to my favorite subreddit, r/hobbydrama, by way of posts about some of the most sordid moments in early Harry Potter fandom history.
Content warning: While most of these are amusing Internet dramas, the first one is genuinely awful, as will be clear from the summary.
I've put them in chronological order and pulled the summaries from the posts. Many thanks to everyone on Reddit who put these posts together!
Popular author turns out to be a cult leader (Late 1990s-2015*)
TL;DR: A famous fanfiction author turns out to be a real creep. He uses a lot of pseudonyms and sockpuppets, convinces some of his fans to move in with him, claims to mind-meld with fictional characters, insists his fanfiction is better than Harry Potter itself, and has questionable views on women. Oh, and he was involved in a triple homicide and used the girl's death for fun and profit.
*Edited to fix my "2005" typo. Sorry! Thank you @olderthannetfic for the catch.
The Cassandra Cla(i)re Saga (2000-2016)
TL;DR: The author of the fanfic trilogy that popularized “Draco in Leather Pants” is also a famous YA author, with a long, complicated history involving fandom drama and Ginny/Ron romance fic.
Married to Severus Snape on the Astral Plane: The Story of the Religion of Snapewives (early 2000s-early 2010s)
TL;DR: There was an actual religion centering on Severus Snape, who was portrayed as an eternal and divine being similar to the Christian God. It had theological arguments, early schisms, and its own vows and prayers, which were all taken completely seriously by its followers, the Snapeists.
Bored woman creates 12+ sockpuppet accounts, becomes a fandom celebrity (2002-2006)
TL;DR: Woman wants to be a part of the popular clique, uses a combination of ridiculous lies, made-up fangirls, and Christian strawmen sockpuppets to build up enough fame to join the popular clique. Is eventually exposed.
J.K. Rowling's husband's "fake" appendicitis, symbolic hippogriff romance, evil Chinese abortions, and the genetics of shipping the wrong ships: tales from the Harmony vs. Ronmione ship war (2005-2007)
A not-so-brief, still not at all comprehensive account of some of the earliest, stupidest Harry Potter shipping drama. Many thanks to the archived remnants of Fan Wank for detailing all of this, and to the people who made this extra funny by coming up with some of the most batshit ship names and insults I’ve ever seen. Merlin bless the good ship Ronmione/Romione/Heron/whateverthefuck, long may she sail. And, though the HMS Harmony/PumpkinPie/whateverthefuckelse capsized long ago, may her memory live on.
Goffick Harry Potter and Fabricated Child Abuse: The Saga of My Immortal (2006-2007, 2017)
Here’s another summary of ridiculous internet drama. This time, it involves Hermione Granger being an emo weaboo who speaks exclusively in broken Japanese, a satanist vampire Harry Potter whose scar has turned itself into a pentagram, a teenage girl’s shitty Mary Sue who gets darker and edgier with every passing chapter, and a YA author desperate to capitalize on the unlikely success of an infamous fanfic published a decade ago. Welcome to the increasingly weird saga of My Immortal.

The Ravens Family
Description and Masterlist
Joining the family
The beginning
If you try to escape
Accidentally calling Dorian “Dad”
World building and their reaction if you had a mate
What kind of yandere are they
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dorian:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Father of the family
Turned against his will during the Ancient Greece era, ~480-336 BC
Was turned when he was 42 years old
Spent one millennia in his first coven, went to make his own when they were all killed off
Turned each of his children a few centuries apart from one another due to him being very picky with who he allows into the family
He is usually able to almost immediately tell if someone would be a good fit
He is a very overprotective father, especially to new members of the family, he sees his adopted children as his own. By vampire standards, due to the fact he was the one who turned them, they are his and are related to him through his venom
Has worked as a highly regarded doctor for centuries, not only to learn more about the human race, but also use his knowledge to study where vampires came from and how
Very caring and nurturing, but won’t hesitate to smack his children upside the head if they deserve it
David:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eldest son
Turned against his will during the medieval era, 1274
Was turned when he was 20 years old
Birth parents were Chinese traders who died at sea
Met Dorian in Spain and spent a year together before he was turned
Changed his birth name from Huì to David to better fit in with European culture, although is considering changing it back due to it being more progressive times
Can speak over 13 different languages and attends college every 50 years or so to keep up with the times, values knowledge and education greatly
Very calm but is 100% done with his siblings shit most of the time
Low-key autistic and doesn’t talk much, is very socially awkward but it comes off as being “dark” and “mysterious” to people who don’t really know them
Literally has no idea how to handle social interactions with new people.
Oliver:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Second oldest son
Turned during the Shakespearian era, 1576
Turned when he was 24 years old
Met Dorian and David at a play and befriended them quickly
He bonded with them over the arts and was invited to their home for dinner a few months later where he was turned
Was the most willing to join the family out of everybody and warmed up to them the fastest due to the fact he grew up with no family and has always craved to be a part of one, making him very protective
Very passionate about theatre and has seen almost every play and movie known to man. Also dabbles in performing himself from time to time if he can find a group of humans he can stand
Loves playing guitar, on the outside he looks very peaceful most of the time, but inside he low-key craves violence and has a tendency to set things in fire. Only thing stopping him is Dorian.
Is known to be temperamental and manipulative, he loves his family a little too much, will and has killed for them on multiple occasions
Tobey:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Youngest son
Turned against his will during the end of the American Revolution, 1781
Turned when he was 16 years old, only a few months away from turning 17
Fought for the British during the Revolutionary War
Met Oliver in America a few months before the Battle of Yorktown
Began a brotherly like relationship with Oliver before he was even a part of the family
Was nearly killed during the Battle of Yorktown, but Oliver brought him in and had Dorian change him before he died
Despite being a few centuries old he is still as immature as a 16 year old would be due to never really needing to grow up in the first place
Is an expert on the piano and can speak like…barely one other language
Has a strong connection to music and can play almost any interment you give to him, although he prefers the piano. When he needs to calm down he’ll stick some headphones in and play his favorite songs.
Very rowdy and hyperactive but also emotional, doesn’t like being alone and would rather have people think of him as annoying than be alone

Note
this may be a silly question that has an obvious answer that I'm just missing, but if Sun Wukong is not truly immortal during his time on the journey, why was he able to regrow his head when it was chopped off, but the Tiger Strength Immortal could not?
It is not a silly question, rather there just might be a misunderstanding between invincible and immortal. I’ve said before but immortals in Eastern mythos are not the same as how Western immortality is to be set up, rather you can live forever as long as you don’t die. In Western myth, there is the idea that you can’t die if you are immortal but that is not the case in Chinese mythos where you are immortal but you can still be killed. Think of it as like how vampire are “immortal” so to speak they can live as long as they don’t get killed. You are saying “truely” immortal as if other immortals are not also bound by these rules. The idea that you can't die because you are immortal only applies to the western use of the term, in Chinese mythos you can be very much 100% a true real immortal and still be able to die if you are killed.
Wukong is a bogus immortal for most of the story and he is not a true immortal until much later, this is why he is not recognized in heaven and had a death date in the first few chapters. It is a given that any Taoist deity technically can die given that while powerful they never escaped reincarnation unless having enlightenment under their belt as well. Immortal does not mean unkillable and Wukong is “truly” immortal as long as he doesn’t die. Only Buddhas are the being in Eastern mythos that cannot die, they cannot be hurt, and they are eternal. Immortals cannot go against the principle of imperence and thus they can have long lives but they cannot escape the wheel of reincarnation and thus while they could last even billions of years they are always going to have that risk, no matter how small.
Wukong in the Three Daoist arc does show impressive feats of regeneration growth that is one of the many examples of his durability. We see in the first few chapters Wukong survives far worse feats when he is sentenced to be executed for lighting, thunder, beheading, disembowelment, fire, drowning, etc. etc. etc. If it was a way to kill a man, Wukong has been through it. But because he can survive everything heaven has to offer they explain how Wukong’s extreme durability comes from his compounded immortality. Hence why they use the furnace to have his immortalities melted away. This does not work as Wukong avoided the fire and this leads to Wukong being trapped for 500 years. Wukong was able to survive and he is VERY hard to kill but not once does this mean that he CANNOT be killed. Heaven understands this and simply needs to find out what can penetrate Wukong's durable immoralities because they know that he can die they just need to find out how to kill him.
But even on the journey, we see Wukong handle many other impressive feats. Wukong's first battle was against the 6 bandits his head was cut off 70 to 80 times before he bothered to attack back. This might be another misunderstanding in that these 'physical attacks' are more severe attacks than being attacked by far superior weapons. Having a lot of physical attacks like having limbs cut off or losing organs would be life-threatening to humans perhaps but Wukong due to his magical surplus is able to overcome these physical attacks with ease. He has more than enough regeneration powers to have NONE of these affect him. Rather we find that there needs to be MORE POWERFUL attacks where Wukong cannot recover as fast as the real powerful weapons. And it is with these attacks and weapons that we see Wukong coming close to death.
While mortal attacks do very little to no damage to Wukong we should note what actually does hurt Wukong and is actually considered “powerful” enough to hurt him. The Samadhi fire is one of these as this is mortal fire but rather one of the purest forms of fire in Daoist mythos. Similarly, the poison that the Scorpion Demon produces is potent enough to harm not only Wukong but also Buddha. As well as the Samadhi Wind from the Yellow Wind Demon, another version of one of the most powerful versions of wind in creations. These are actually powerful attacks that can affect Wukong's qi and how his body can connect to his own power compared to mortal weapons that just cut Wukong's body. Wukong gets blinded, faints, and even gets sick from these attacks as he cannot recover without a long time or with outside aid. So while there can be a lot of physical attacks on his body, it doesn’t actually do a lot of damage to Wukong compared to far more powerful attacks or weapons that actually affect Wukong's body and power. It’s kind of like Superman logic that while he is very durable, if someone has something as powerful as krypton then it will do great damage to him.

In this scene when Hector is threatening Lenore, he says the following, "...or I will rip your fucking throat out and break your fucking neck and we'll see how fucking well you live then."
All right, let's pretend for a moment Lenore was in any kind of danger and this was a legitimate threat: Is Hector just bluffing (as if Lenore's not going to know her own weaknesses) or would breaking her neck actually result in some permanent damage if he succeeded?
In other words, can the Netflix's Castlevania vampires be crippled?
Modern vampire media plays fast and loose with Bram Stoker's rules, (I mean, the more powerful Hellsing vampires can even walk around in sunlight; it just annoys them,) but in every other vampire-themed series I can think of right now, short of the classic stake through the heart or the head being removed, vampires tend to come back from just about anything. Regrowing limbs, regenerating catastrophic blood less, etc. The series Shiki actually has a pretty disturbing rundown of what vampires can and can't survive, courtesy of a doctor capturing one and putting her through a series of inhumane experiments to see what will actually kill her. (This one also has a pretty similar explanation to Castlevania as to why vampires fear holy relics, and it's the only modern vampire series I've seen that actually has the 'sacred ground is off limits' factor.)
When the chips are down, Hector's probably just overreaching here. (Or possibly trying to intimidate Lenore on the mistaken assumption she's a 'helpless lady.')
But I do think it's an interesting notion to have vampirism not being the 'cure all, return to factory setting in case of emergency' trope we see everywhere because the 'factory setting' is different for everyone. Such as vampires experiencing permanent injuries or even terminal illnesses. The light of the moon is just reflected sunlight, so a vampire with a skin condition that makes them extra sensitive to even moonlight could be possible. Also, vampires developing illnesses like blood disorders, rabies, even the ones who have animal forms contracting mange, certain cancers, neurological or physiological conditions they were born with that a vampire's bite didn't 'cure.'
Or maybe they have a whole other range of afflictions specific only to their species.
Tumblr media
Example: Aside from Carmilla and Godbrand, none of Dracula's Generals speak, not even Cho even though she has a flashback in Season 3. In a Hellsing/Castlevania crossover I was working on, I wrote a part where the Generals had an ongoing bet of whether or not Cho was too arrogant to bother speaking with the plebs or if she actually couldn't speak, implying she has a speech disorder that predated her being a vampire.
...
I've read books where humans with asthma, severe scoliosis, and even Alzheimer's Disease were cured after becoming a vampire, and I do think that's wonderful.
But there's also the part of me that thinks, "Nah, too easy." I want to see vampires who are blind or deaf or both, autistic vampires, 10th century Chinese vampire ladies who still have maimed feet from the foot-binding of their childhoods, vampires who suffer from dementia and are terrified of losing hundreds of years worth of memories, dyslexic vampires, paraplegic vampires, vampires with autoimmune disease, or allergies outside of being unable to enjoy the gift to humanity that is garlic bread.

Escapade Dance Party 2023 Writeup 3/3
Second Half
Jaskier has no more fucks to give by Gondolin AMV
Obviously, having just shown the other Witcher, I had to open with the more familiar one.
Vids under 2 minutes also aren't actually danceable no matter the tempo, so this makes a good upbeat intro to a section.
Grandmaster of Troublemaking (The Untamed) by NKZephyr Edits
I love the enthusiasm and goofiness of this vid.
Goncharov (1973) | Read the description! by Etoile
Come on, we had to have Goncharov!
TBH, there were other vids, but basically none of them were danceable.
【HIStory3-圈套】On a daily by Nerjaveika
Trapped's moment seems to have passed, but the combination of great use of text and this fun song made this one a perfect fit.
Ego | AMV | Mo dao zu shi & Heaven Official's Blessing (CC Lyrics) by Nitisha Donghua Productions
I was more looking for Heaven Official's Blessing alone, but most of the options I was finding weren't really danceable. I love this song and was looking for a vid to it anyway.
trouble in my head | lan jue & zhang ping | a league of nobleman by Victoria
I have no clue what this is. I probably found it in the sidebar while searching something else, but it's such a pretty vid.
История Бай Ци (AU, Bai Qi/Shen Zui) by Kemriko
What is this? Who knows. I liked it, and it was m/m, so people got to watch it.
BTS Jhope • Gasolina• |FMV|• by kookie taex
In a concession to how many people the previous song would inevitably chase from the dance floor, I wanted to follow it with something much more booty-shaking. I fucking love Gasolina and am always looking for more vids to it. Tragically, a lot of English-speaking vidding fandom has No Taste and does not vid this kind of music.
Yes, this is a vertical vid of J-Hope dancing to Daddy Yankee. No regrets!
Мания Хирото by Fausthaus
Ah, my favorite source of vids: Russian fandom combats. Are they on AO3? Yes. Have English speakers gone anywhere near their vast stores of battshit content? No, absolutely not.
No one at the con, including me, knows anything about this fandom. Too bad. The music is great, and I wanted to dance to it.
Отступники by fandom Vampires of Central Russia 2021
This is another fandom I spotted in the fandom combats. The vid is shorter than I'd normally show, but I wanted to showcase this interesting vampire fandom that I didn't think most people at Escapade had heard of yet.
Sex and Violence by bironic
Another one breaking my rules. Nandermo was a must-have for a vampire-themed year, but mockumentaries are shot like ass on purpose, and that makes them hard to vid, so my options were limited. Bironic's always a sure thing, if not exactly obscure to an Escapade audience.
Sadly, the embed seems to be dead at the moment.
Sex Drive by Franzeska
Yes, I will always play my own vids when I need to fill a hole in a playlist.
Night Watch was such a passion of mine for a while and the source of my ill-fated attempt to learn Russian. I always meant to go back and add text to this vid to echo the weird subtitles they did for the movie, but I never got around to it. Oh well.
【盾冬衍生】no body no crime 黑暗爽文利刃出鞘兰森/我们一直住在城堡里表哥 by 蜜桃奶霉包
Batshit AUs are my favorite. When I found this, I knew I had to inflict it on everyone.
The Hunger - Say Yes To Heaven by themaybatatter
I had a long list of vampire fandoms, most of which I never did find a vid for, but The Hunger was at the absolute top of my list. After scouring the internet, this was the only arguably danceable vid I could come up with and one of the few in general. What the hell, internet? What the hell?!
“你不了解你的妻子,我吻过她” by 没饭呲了
This would be a lot more danceable if it weren't quite so plastered with show audio… but too bad. As usual, sufficiently horny femslash gets an automatic pass. Everyone swayed vaguely on the edges of the dance floor staring, so I still consider it a success.
【巍澜】这可是极限拉扯的鼻祖!!! by 甜飞惹
Guardian is another fandom where I'm spoiled for choice, but the Chinese vidders do like to include an awful lot of dialogue. This vid stood out for great dance party music and no audio clips.
Morpheus & Hob | The Night We Met by WolfPhoenixWriter
A lot of people were into Sandman this year. I liked this vid for making me feel a lot of feelings despite never having seen the show and barely remembering the comic.
It's a bit slow dance for Escapade, but I loved the emotion in the song too much to not include it.
Boyfriend | FMV | Yan Wei X Xu YouYi by Nitisha Donghua Productions
I guess this was my horny femslash year.
Lee Soo Hyuk - Gwi (Scholar Who Walks the Night) Savage by Serendipity
What's this? Dunno, but it's got a vampire and this great song.
The Monster by frayadjacent
This one was pure self-indulgence on my part. It was made for a con by a vidder everybody knows, but the vidder felt it required too many content warnings and didn't send it in the end. I, however, reserve the end of the dance party to show more content warnings-heavy things if I feel like it. I despise how fandom has turned into a "compromise" where anything that reaches into my soul is never on the table while pabulum always is. Fuck that. I am the arbiter of what's normal.
This vid lit me up in places I'd forgotten.
Ahs Hotel :| Tear you Apart by xxxxxx
This song was used in the show and there are a billion vids to it, but this one is far better than the others aside from how it just cuts off.
AHS isn't a fandom most at the con are in, but I just had to include its vampire season.
A Shot for the Pain by Franzeska
I honestly did go looking for other Penny Dreadful vids. Sadly, the selection was not impressive, and most of it was not to anything danceable, let alone goth club-appropriate music.
【拔杯|暗黑慎入】你是我奇怪的瘾症 by 两只阿夏跑不快
I've seen a lot of Hannibal vids. Almost all of them are gross. Few are as interestingly edited as this one.
Twilight Zone by hmmyeahokay
Okay, this one is a massive blast from the past. Do people outside of Highlander fandom even remember this bad 2001 movie?
I loved the song, and I appreciated that there was a black lead. That and vampires trump the fact that it's a het vid (ish).
Supernatural ►Cry Little Sister by Gwen
I scoured Youtube for vids to this song. I thought this was a particularly interesting take out of the extensive genre of horror set to Cry Little Sister. (No, seriously, it's a genre.)
【荣耀向我俯首|kinnporsche】没长出恋爱脑前的少爷们怎么能错过这首BGM by 旧城与笙Zz
Kinnporsche hit big this year. I wanted a really fantastic vid that people hadn't seen. I love that this one is by a Chinese vidder (probably) to a French song.
Sadly no longer online, probably for being of a horny BL series and posted on a Chinese site
Kingdom come by fandom ATEEZ 2022
Okay, ATEEZ isn't a big fandom at the con, but this vid is some sort of kink AU, and I'm always weak for that. It's also to a Taylor song everybody loves.
Last of the Real Ones by colls
I cheated again and included a well-known vidder, but do you know how hard it is to find stormpilot vids? Kylux has like eight billion genius animatics and fan art vids. Finnpoe? Bupkis!
I don't know if people still care about this part of Star Wars, but all of the Bandom trash immediately rushed the dance floor when the song started playing.
louis & lestat | take my breath away (interview with the vampire) by ScribbledDreaming
I have ended with this song before, with finnpoe in fact, so that's a little in-joke for myself.
What better way to end the vampire party than the new IWTV and the most over-the-top vid I could find?

In MY vampireverse reboot, Ink/Encre is an artist as a sideline job and trained as a vampire hunter. They'll still retain their previous names but might change some. Tell me what changes or stuff you guys wanna add bc this is all that I have for now lol.
Ink/Encre - Moved to the capital kingdom from a french town by the coast. Can speak French and Chinese (bc of Comyet inspired to create Ink from a Chinese calligraphy brush lol). Works as a hunter (bc it pays well) and sidelines his artist job for extra money.
Error/Fallacy - A bit of a man baby but still more mature. He took (kidnapped lol) Encre from a group hunt after massacring his colleagues and locked him in his castle bc he saw too much and didn't wanna risk Encre skeddadling back to the capital and outing where his castle is. His inner man childness comes out whenever he's with Encre bc Encre's still a little shit and likes to tease him.
Paperjam/Jasper - does art as a hobby. He met Encre in his cell after being curious and saw said guy drawing in his sketchbook that Fallacy somehow didn't take. Jasper got excited and started going down therr more often and got close with Encre. Encre taught him how to improve his drawing bc Fallacy didn't want to hire art tutors for him aww :(.
JASPER AND SUAVE AREN'T FUCKING DATING!!!!!!!
