After they're reunited on Ryloth, Waxer tells Boil things he never mentioned while he was recovering after Umbara. He tells him what happened during Order 66 and what came after. It's been a long journey home, but it was worth every painful step.

Ava wakes up aching.

She shifts in her sleeping bag, dragging one arm out to not feel as much like she's trapped inside of a cocoon and flinches when she accidentally bumps into her backpack. The sound itself is louder than she expects and she shoots a glance over to where Beatrice was supposed to be sleeping.

The place beside her is empty.

Right. She shouldn't feel as struck by the realisation as she does. It's a weird mix between relief and disappointment.

Taking a deep collecting breath, she heaves herself up to a sitting position to reach the outer pocket of her backpack. There was a reason she kept her painkillers easily accessible. Even before going into this, she knew the cold would fuck with her body. Especially for everything she took it through yesterday. She digs her nails into the foil, popping one pill loose and tipping her head back to swallow it in one sweep. She'd gotten used to doing it without water after forgetting her bottle one too many times.

Despite everything protesting against her, she fumbles out of the sleeping back and goes into her stretches, knowing she will feel at least tolerable when the painkiller kicks in.

Right now though- she really wishes she was anywhere but on the (very hard) snow covered forest floor.

God, she missed beds.

She looks over at the empty spot again, trying to remember if she even saw Beatrice sleep or if she just... stayed up.

It had been tense enough during the night so Ava had tried her best to keep her distance. Frankly, it seemed she'd done the same.

The only reason none of them had left entirely was because the snow insisted on coming down for hours upon end, closing them in.

Now, when she leans down slightly to look out from under the cover it's clear it has stopped. Laying thick but untouched over the forest floor. Hanging for dear life on the branches of pines, threatening to fall at any moment.

It doesn't feel as daunting anymore when she can clearly see her surroundings. Instead, it verges on peaceful.

Diego would have loved this.

When she walks out, fixing her scarf so it covers her mouth, she spots Beatrice nearly immediately. She's crouched down by one of her sled dogs, saying something Ava couldn't hear while scratching him by the scruff of his ear

Ava can't help but stop to just… watch.

Her head is tilted, cheeks slightly flushed from the cold and the hair that had been messy and down last night were set into a neatly made bun. She looks relaxed. More so than Ava got the impression she could be yesterday and for a moment the observation feels almost too much.

Ava shifts, steadies her weight on the cane. She's being weird. She should leave before she-

As if sensing it, the dog turns towards her and lets out a low bark upon recognition. Beatrice looks up.
