Most Beautiful Park in Detroit, MI
Tumblr media
Detroit, MI is known for its brutal winters and crime, but it's also home to some beautiful parks. While many people might not think about visiting Detroit for a weekend getaway, there are plenty of reasons why you should! Come with us on a tour of the most beautiful parks in Detroit, MI.
Tumblr media
Beacon Park
Beacon Park is a public park in the centre of the city of Lichfield, Staffordshire, in the United Kingdom. The park was created in 1859 when the Museum Gardens were laid out adjacent to the newly built Free Museum and Library. The park has since been extended in stages and now forms 69 acres (28 ha) of open parkland in the city centre. The park is in the northwest of the city centre and to the west of the Cathedral Close across the road from the Garden of Remembrance.
The majority of the park was originally waterlogged marshland and a lake covered the area of what is now the Museum Gardens. The land was drained in the early 19th century and the Museum Gardens were raised with silt dredged from Minster Pool. The large northern area of the park once formed the land and gardens of Beacon House. This land was incorporated into the park when the owner of Beacon House, Colonel Swinfen Broun, donated the land after his death.
Tumblr media
William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor
The park consists of the former city-owned St. Aubin Park and Marina and an adjacent reclaimed brownfield. The park area was taken over by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources in 2004 as Tri-Centennial State Park to commemorate the founding of Fort Detroit in 1701. It was Michigan's first state park to be situated in an urban area. Phase I of the park's development, which included refurbishing the marina and construction of the light tower, opened on May 20, 2004. Construction of the 6-acre (2.4 ha) Phase II, or expansion, phase of the project began in summer 2008 and concluded in summer 2009. The Phase II project encompassed a parcel of post-industrial property adjacent to Rivard Plaza. On October 22, 2009, Tri-Centennial State Park was renamed in honor of Governor William G. Milliken. The Lowlands section of the park was officially opened to the public on December 3, 2009.
Tumblr media
Robert C. Valade Park
Robert C. Valade Park is the newest park to open along the East Riverfront. It features an expansive, sandy beach with chairs and umbrellas, a children’s musical garden, colorful play scapes for kids to climb on, a community barbecue pavilion and Bob’s Barge, which is Detroit’s only floating bar each summer. The park is also home to The Shed, a 3,600-square-foot building that will be used for food, events and programming. This winter Valade Park will feature over-sized outdoor fire places, hot drinks, marshmallow roasters, the Sled Shed (featuring free sleds when it snows), synthetic ice curling, and more.

Randwick, one of the suburbs of Sydney NSW Australia.
Bat Country, what a fabulous place and great music too!
We loved it!
Pure entertainment if you sit at the bar whilst the staff are mixing and shaking the cocktails.
Look out for an area of the town referred to as "The Spot" and you will find this bar, along with many other café bars and eateries.
A very popular "spot" indeed.
Easy to reach from Sydney, near to the University and Hospital.
We stayed in a fabulous boutique hotel there, in order to visit Bondi and Coogee beaches plus a little #batspotting (the real kind) in Centennial Parklands.

This bridge design takes inspiration from the bara eel

Associated: Timber bridge connects a metropolis with its fishing village What’s extra, the eel that impressed this design is a giant determine within the native custom within the area. Buried under colonial concrete, Botany Bay has even been robbed of its botany [...].
Our common understanding of the Kamay landscape, as recognised in the protected swamp remnant in Centennial Park, is based on a misremembering of the past. [...] The HMS Endeavour's week-long stay on the shores of Kamay in 1770 yielded so many botanical specimens unknown to western science, Captain James C**k called the area Botany Bay. [...] Since then, Kamay has become an icon [...]. [M]any of the assumptions about the historical landscape we hold today may actually be wrong. The site better reflects 20th-century European exploitation of the landscape than it does early or pre-British Botany Bay. [...] These swamps have largely disappeared under the suburbs, or have been corralled into golf course ponds [...] --  a sight familiar to anyone who has driven between Sydney city and its airport. [...]
One wetland remnant, called Lachlan Swamp, occurs at the springhead of the swamplands in Centennial Parklands. Boardwalks and signs at the site encourage visitors to imagine the swamps and the paperbark forest (Melaleuca quinquenervia) surrounding them as a relic of pre-British Sydney. We used the pollen technique at Lachlan Swamp to determine whether the contemporary ecosystem reflects the pre-European landscape being protected. And our results reveal that, at the time of British occupation, the swampland was [actually] surrounded by an open, Ericaceae-dominated heath. Casuarina and Leptospermum species were the dominant swamp trees, not the swamp paperbark. This plant community was present at the site for at least the previous 2,000 years, and was only replaced by the contemporary paperbark forest between the 1890s and 1970s. [...]
Ongoing work from the La Perouse Aboriginal Community led research team drawing on Indigenous knowledge and European history suggests this open heathland vegetation grew consistently across the Lachlan and Botany Swamps during and prior to European colonisation of Sydney. [...]
Tumblr media
Today, the northern shore of Kamay acts as Australia's gateway to the world. It hosts Australia's busiest international airport [...]. From the early 19th century, urban development gradually overprinted a vast network of groundwater-fed swamplands, whose catchment extended north from Kamay to what is now the southern boundary of Sydney's CBD. [...]
Continuous cultural knowledge about the environment, held by local Dharawal people, can provide a rich picture of Kamay's botany and how it was used -- well before the arrival of the HMS Endeavour. For instance, the Garrara or grass tree (Xanthorrhoea), which is depicted in many early colonial paintings, is a multi-use plant used to construct fishing spears -- a tradition upheld today within the La Perouse Aboriginal community. Similarly, other food and medicinal plants have been long been used by this community. This includes Five Corners (Ericaceae), Native Sarsaparilla (Smilax), Lomandra (Lomandra) and multi-use heath and swamp plants such as the coastal wattle (Acacia longifolia), swamp oak (Casuarina glauca) and coastal tea tree (Leptospermum laevigatum). [...] Though Sydney's environmental past may be misremembered [...] its legacy is [...] coded into the remnant landscapes of pre-British occupation, and preserved in the continuous knowledge systems of the land's first peoples.
