The Jewish Asexual Anthology
Tumblr media
Hi!
I am working on an anthology of creative nonfiction/“personal” essays by Jewish asexual individuals. I am currently in the phase of collecting pieces, and I’d love to hear from you!
Topics include: -Shomer negiah/tzniut/Jewish cultural expectations -Growing up ace and Jewish in a secular world/in a Jewish community -Stereotypes and tropes - fitting in, breaking out -Alienation from/inclusion in Jewish and queer spaces -Family/relationship pressures, expectations, and navigation -Figuring out you’re ace -Coming out -Ace and ___ (intersectionality with other identities) -Parenting/not parenting -Sexuality/romance, or lack thereof -Ace joy, ace community -Anything else that comes to mind about the ace and jewish experience!
Pieces are ideally between 500-1,500 words, and should be in English (words or phrases in other languages may be used, as long as they are explained or translated). Anonymous pieces or pieces under a pseudonym are allowed!
Due date for a first draft is December 1st, 2023.
If interested, please email me at [email protected]!
Sincerely,
Daphna S.

Welcome to The Rosebush
Welcome! We’re very happy to announce the preliminary launch of The Rosebush, a new online magazine for interactive fiction theory and criticism. The purpose of this preliminary launch is to let the interactive fiction community know that we exist, and to invite submissions. We hope to begin publishing early this summer, perhaps in June.
Learn more below, or you can also read this post on our website.
What is The Rosebush?
The Rosebush will be a free online magazine dedicated to publishing longer form articles about interactive fiction. The interactive fiction community already has well-established channels for reviews of individual games, and several people have well-read blogs, but we’ve been lacking a good platform for in-depth analyses, theory articles, discussions of craft, interviews, historical pieces, and so on. The Rosebush aims to be this platform. It will publish substantial articles that increase our understanding of interactive fiction, from individual works to design patterns, community structures and historical trends. The intended audience consists of both players and authors of IF.
What is the scope of the magazine?
Interactive fiction is a term with many uses. The focus of The Rosebush lies on digital works in which a player interacts with a pre-written story where text is the main medium. In particular, The Rosebush will publish about both parser-based and choice-based interactive fiction. While tabletop role playing games, computer role playing games, visual novels, and choose-your-own-adventure books are also interactive fictions in a sense of that term, they are not our primary topic.
Most of the organisers of The Rosebush come from the communities around the Interactive Fiction Competition, the Spring Thing, the IFDB, and so on; but we explicitly also intend to publish about the works of adjacent communities, such as the ChoiceScript community and the retro text adventure community.
What is the magazine looking for?
Articles! See the submissions page for the detailed call for articles. It is possible to either submit a pitch, which we will check to see whether the topic is suitable for The Rosebush, or an article. Links to submission forms can also be found on the submissions page.
What does The Rosebush offer authors?
Most importantly, a place for disseminating your articles. The Rosebush will maintain its website and ensure that all articles are also stored on the IF Archive, the best guarantee for perpetual availability in the current world of interactive fiction. In addition, the editorial team will work with you on your article, which can range from simple spelling/grammar editing to more substantial ideas and feedback on improving your piece.
The Rosebush is an entirely volunteer effort. There are no plans to offer a monetary compensation to authors of articles.
Who are we?
The editorial team currently consists of:
Aster Fialla (se/er)
Benjamin Slade (he/they)
Daniel Stelzer (they/them)
Drew Cook (he/him)
Josh Grams (he/him)
Kiana Lee (she/her)
Lisa Fox (she/her)
Mike Preston (he/him)
Mike Russo (he/him)
Victor Gijsbers (he/him)
Zee (they/them)

Seeking Beta Readers!
Hi there!
I'm reaching out because I figure at least some of you are here because you've enjoyed my writing on AO3 over the years! I just finished the first draft of an original fiction novel I've been writing (on and off) since 2017, and it's time to get some fresh eyes on it! It's about a small town witch with a cranky crow Familiar trying to break a curse for a femme fatale. And yes, there is magic, it is gay, and it is even polyamorous!
For those interested, we talk about monetary compensation, but I will say right off the bat I can't offer a lot and I totally understand that not everyone can offer their help for free.
Deets under the read-more:
The deets:
~ I need help detecting any continuity errors, grammatical errors, and areas that would benefit from being expanded or trimmed
~ I am looking for feedback of any kind! Are the characters compelling? Is the world-building working? Are there loose ends I missed? Should it be more spicy/less spicy? Should I add another POV? Is the whole thing a big stinky pile of doodoo?!
~ I would give betas access to comment on the Google doc (the more comments the better!) and would appreciate a short review or response (kinda like a GoodReads style book response?) after you've finished reading, reflecting on what you liked and didn't like, what did or didn't make sense, etc.
~ If it ever gets published, you will be mentioned in the Acknowledgements!
About the book:
Working Title: Magic Touch
Currently weighing in at 62.5k
Blurb:
Down a cozy street of apothecaries and palm readers, is a little shop by the name of Magic Touch Spell Service. It is here that hedge witch April offers her magical services to local townies and summer tourists alike. As big-hearted as she is stubborn, April is simply trying to make it through the slow winter season. Sure, money is tight, her late mentor’s cranky Familiar won’t quit hassling her, and she is no stranger to grief, but it’s not all bad. Her boyfriend Ivan is as sweet as the honey from his apiary, the pair have plenty of friends in the small town of Clement, and even if she struggles to believe in herself, April is damn good at her job.
But when a local man dies of an unexplainable ailment, and a woman as inscrutable as she is gorgeous enters the shop in search of a witch to break a curse, April finds herself at odds with her own principles. Will she be able to protect the town that adopted her after the loss of her parents? What would her mentor Mama Zeta say if she could see how her protégé was running the shop she inherited? And is it even possible to return to ‘normal’ after disturbing the ghosts of the past?
~

hey all, i have a favor to ask
i want to run a root campaign. this is not the problem. the problem is that there's a faction called the Lizard Cult, who are religious fanatics.
you can perhaps see that this is not great.
i want to rewrite their role in this campaign, in a way that isn't antisemitic / generally offensive to religious people.
the favor i need: i would like people (preferably Jewish people, but people who are otherwise non-christian are also welcome) to help me rewrite this in a sensitive way.
if you know anyone who would be interested or willing to help me with this, please reply to this post or dm me!
(my original idea was to make them into a more Lovecraftian cult, but again i want to make this not antisemitic)

Welcome to Silver Scale Zine!
Hello and well met, traveler! This is the official blog of the Silver Scale Zine, an upcoming TTRPG zine made by fans, for fans.
Our first issue is going to be released in TBD. We wanted to give ample time for submissions and formatting, as well as to spread the word about our little project! The hope is to release issues every other month, though if it takes off we wouldn't mind increasing to monthly or more!
Are you a writer, artist, or other creator in the Tabletop Roleplaying Game space? We'd love to feature you in our zine!
Submissions do not have to match this theming, but those that do will be given priority! You will own all rights to your work! Submitting simply gives us the rights to publish it in our zine with your permission and any credit/handles/email you wish so readers can discover your work!
We do have the goal to sell each issue in its first few months for around $1-5 pay-what-you-want, which will be dispersed among the contributors to thank them for their submissions. We welcome all thoughts on this and how best to distribute to contributors!
If you are a creator with any thoughts, submissions, or questions, please reach out via our inbox here, or through [email protected]
