Headcanons: Jade Willows/Darkcaster

AU Dark!Jade / Main Verse Darkcaster

The main plot of this verse is Jade finally gives in to the curse and becomes Darkcaster after the tragic death of her daughter, Ella; the loss of her child breaking the final thread of hope and strength that Jade was holding onto - Ella had been the light in her darkness, and that light was snuffed out, allowing the shadows to engulf and swallow Jade and birth the Darkcaster.

However, alternatively, there are other ways for Darkcaster to take control, without this plot point occurring.

A ritual could take place, lead by Jade’s mother Christelle Willows (who was a rare occurrence of being ‘born a ‘pure darkcaster’, the curse taking over very early on), with Christelle attempting to harvest the raw dark power that lies dormant in her eldest child. But the ritual went awry - thus the curse given form taking over Jade’s body and becoming the entity it is. 

Without Ella actively in her life, it is possible for Jade to lose the battle against Darkcaster. Ella’s father - though he once abandoned his child before she was even born - gaining sole custody and taking Ella away from Jade would give Darkcaster more power over the witch, potentially gaining the upper hand against her and taking Jade’s body for itself. 

Alternatively, Darkcaster could win the war without any tragedy occurring; a simple accident of Jade letting down her guard could allow for Darkcaster to take over, severing all ties to what keeps the light bright in Jade’s life so that Darkcaster may walk its path of creating misery and suffering to feed from. 

On the other hand, with any of these, there is also the potential for Jade fighting back against the Darkcaster, regaining control and forcing the darkness back inside of its cage - deep into the darkest corners of her mind and soul.

Headcanons: Darkcaster & Jade

A witch in Jade’s bloodline who has succumbed to the curse isn’t doomed to forever be a slave to the darkness. There are ways of bringing one back to the light, or the balance, should they fall victim to the curse. 

The primary reason that Jade accepts the darkness and the Darkcaster takes control is due to the death of her young daughter, Ella. Without Ella, who she saw as her balance, Jade’s mind shattered - as did the cage holding back the dark entity, thus the Darkcaster’s poison spread and consumed Jade’s soul, leading to the loss of control.

While Darkcaster also loved Ella (perhaps the only person the entity could ever love), it is a bittersweet fact that Ella’s death caused the Darkcaster’s ‘birth’ - thus, the Darkcaster needs Ella to remain deceased, for if she were to be resurrected it would provide Jade with a reason to fight back to regain control. 

But the possible resurrection of Jade’s daughter isn’t the only way to bring Jade back to the light.

Her grandmother Lydia is aware of certain magics that can combat the curse, but the spells and rituals originate from the dark magics that created it to begin with and Lydia has always been wary of tapping into such sorcery - in fear of failing, and only creating further damage. No one in Jade’s family attempted a resurrection, for that would also be tapping said into dark magic that they don’t want to tamper with. 

Another solution could possibly be by tapping into the trapped soul of Jade herself and giving her a reason to fight back, Jade could possibly gain the strength back to retake control of her own body and force the Darkcaster back into its cage. But this won’t be easy, as the witch that was Jade Willows has grown too weak - from the moment of losing her daughter alone.
