Yeah, even Buck and Smoltz mentioned that Verlander wasn’t with the team and it was kinda strange. If opening day is on time (which I seriously doubt) He will be like 20 months post surgery, which is a proper rehab period and should be strong and good to go for close to a full season. I was shocked at the $25 million. A lotta coin for all the reasons you so eloquently stated. But once Syndergaard went for 21, someone with not even close to the pedigree, I knew he might get paid! Plus from the reports a bunch of teams were seriously bidding for him….even the fuckin Rays!! 😳 lol! Honestly, even if the deal was around the qualifying offer (18 mill), I would have thought it was a good deal, just not at $25 when like you said, you had other needs. If I were you guys, I would have spent every cent possible to keep Correa. I don’t know what there backup plan will be if they lose him. Maybe a short term deal with Semien? Maybe move Bregman back to short where he played in minors? I thought the whole reason not signing Springer last year was to have funds for Correa. Now if you don’t sign him, you’ve lost them both?! 🤷‍♂️

Every time that we lose a key player like this, it’s heartbreaking. They made a big deal about how the whole reason that we didn’t keep Springer was so that we could focus on resigning Correa. And you’re right, now we’ve probably lost both. He’s a leader and the most outspoken player on the team. I don’t think that we can afford to lose him. He’s in our fucking grocery store commercials- we neeeeeeed him. And gosh, if he ends up in a Yankees or Dodgers jersey 🤢

I have no idea what their plan moving forward is. The idea of Bregman being moved over has been tossed around, but between his bad legs and the wrist surgery he just had, I don’t trust it. But honestly, when your previous short stop won the platinum glove, anyone is a step down 😔

All we can do at this point is hope that Jim Crane will get over his stupid rule about long term contracts and pay the man.
