I just started watching Bramwell. And I must say I enjoy a protagonist who fits her time. Eleanor is a young doctor who believes healthcare is right of everyone, which puts her ahead of her time. But Eleanor is also white, christian, and born into wealth and privilege. She judges patients who are alcoholics, children who steal to eat, and women who have children out of wedlock. She judges high society men for their lack of compassion and women because she thinks their life goals of wanting home and children aren’t as worthy as her goal to be a doctor.
Eleanor Bramwell is kind, with a big heart. She means well, and each episode teaches her a lesson that her privilege has shielded her from. She’s also arrogant and doesn’t know when to quit while she’s ahead. There are moments she would make a better impression if she just stopped pushing people so hard. It’s almost as if she can’t stop herself.
I find her equally endearing as I do infuriating and it makes her incredibly compelling to watch. I’m looking forward to the rest of the show.

I'm a responsible adult. I absolutely haven't left packing for moving to England until the last minute. I 100% have all the time in the world to start packing if I haven't done so already...
Anyway Eleanor Bramwell has a tractor now too lads 😂

Bramwell
Anyone know what I'm talking about when I bring up the tv show Bramwell??? Back when I was dabbling in Dracula fanfic (due to Katie McGrath playing Lucy Westernra) I always headcannoned that Mina got additional practice at Eleanor Bramwell's clinic.
The biggest draw was Jemma Regrave. I love all the Redgraves, but I think I'm torn between Jemma and Vanessa when it comes to picking a favorite. I think Jemma Redgrave played Katie McGrath's mother in Dracula.

Every time I watch this series or come upon stills or anything, I wonder how she survived that degree of corseting. And still made world class television. Well done, ma gurl, well done!

Watching Bramwell (1995) again for the first time in years: fun, a delight
Heading over to AO3 and seeing there aren’t any Eleanor/Joe fics: bad, unforgivable
While I procrastinate in writing my own, here are some plot ideas and fragments that have lived in my brain and notes app since 2016. One day I hope to write a proper little story or two, but in the meantime, enjoy!
Eleanor is upset because O'Neil has yet again come unannounced to the Thrift, despite the fact that they are no longer together. She is visibly distraught and rushes away into the store room; he insists they have an affair, despite their painful and messy personal histories.
Dr. Marsham is already in the storeroom, measuring out ether, and just quietly stares at her back for a moment as she stays by the door. He starts to ask her what's wrong, but instead of answering, she suddenly pushes him back into the store shelves, and roughly kisses him, knocking the jar of ether out of his hands.
Almost immediately it's over and she storms out of the room, leaving Marsham disheveled, confused, and soaking in ether. He has to sit down (the combination of both kiss and ether making him dizzy); neither of them ever mention it again.
It's the end of the day and they're the only ones left at the Thrift. There's a quiet contentment between them. He hums when he reads and she absently chews her lip when deep in thought. She never notices, but he always does.
In between patients he starts randomly telling her things about himself without prompting and she just listens, interested and curious as to what makes Joe Marsham tick - he's such a private, secretive person.
Standing beside him, she could see he has wonderfully dark lashes and deep, sad eyes.

It never fails to amuse me how many times I see actors from shows I’ve been watching reappear in a crime drama for one episode.
I’m watching a crime drama called Vera.
First it was the first version of Elinor Campbell. Then Edward Campbell. Now Robert Bramwell.
Oh, British crime dramas 😂

Watching Bramwell has taught me how easily I can be swayed by a simple romantic gesture. Finn O’Neill is nothing but trouble for Eleanor, every time he shows up he woos her then hurts her. Intellectually I know this, I even yell at my screen to Eleanor about it.
But the man shows up after some time in America, lit in a single beam of light in The Thrift and I am swooning.
