Hi how are you? I don't know if you are accepting requests... but if so, I would like to ask Macgyver for something
I imagine something, where the reader is jealous of Mac with Desi or Riley, and to make matters worse for the reader, one of them ends up getting hurt, and then Mac gives her his full attention? (Riley, Desi) and the reader starts to feel super insecure and super bad...
Thankss!!
first of all the fact I have a MacGyver request right now is nothing short of amazing. with the show being over for a while now the fandom has died down quite a lot and I am happy to write for him whenever. I will also be choosing Desi for this considering I’m very anti-Desi, apologies to anyone who likes her. anyways I hope you enjoy xx

Warnings: jealousy, language, angst, heartache, unreciprocated feelings, fluff, happy ending (don’t worry)
Summary: After months of pretending that his behavior doesn’t bother you, you finally find yourself getting fed up and showing your heartbreak towards the boy. He uses this as an excuse to finally confront his feelings for you.

Harboring a crush on the man your job required you to protect was a great work ethic tactic. In fact it was the best one you had yet. Obviously you’d protect anyone of the team but if something ever actually happened to Mac, you’d be more than upset. Quite possibly crushed. It was also a great tactic considering you were very well trained at keeping your emotions intact which meant not once had you given up the fact you had any feelings for the blonde boy at all. It was simple actually, pine for him when you were alone and protect him when you were together. Always at his 6, gun pointed and loaded. A team always and forever.
That is until Desi Nguyen came along.
Not only is she just as good as you at combat but she was also getting closer to the team and you despised that. Feelings of replacement and jealousy filling you which made you angry for experiencing such emotions at all. It started to get worse when you noticed how close Mac was getting to her. Hell when she first showed up she had caught him leaving the shower and she hadn’t been shameless about it at all. You were the only one to successfully pass her test and she acted like because of that, the two of you were friends. That made it even worse.
It started with him laughing at her jokes, then it was grabbing a coffee after work, and pretty soon it was slight touches in passing, barely noticeable, but there. It was driving you up a wall, yet you’d never show it. Not only was Mac completely clueless but Riley and Bozer as well. So when you find yourself particularly angry for being sent in the field with Mac and Desi, no one seems to pay no mind because you are a shell of stoic. Untouched by silly and childish feelings of crushes and love. You wonder if there is possibly anything that could break your cool and calm structure.
“Y/N, I need you for a minute” your heart stutters, wishing he meant it in a different way, some other way. Yet you obey, not even a glimmer of hope shining as you look in his eyes. “Hold this wire for me please”
“Better hurry guys, we’re gonna have guests soon” Desi speaks, still on guard for any unwanted visitors. You slide your gun in the holster, allowing her to cover you both as you hold the wire like Mac asked.
“Please tell me this will only blow up the bad guys and not us” you tell Mac, a sly smile on your face and he chuckles, his hand twisting with his Swiss army knife as he works on something you can’t possibly comprehend.
“I’m not making any promises” he tells you and you fight the grin that wants to crawl across your face. You want to smile at him like he hung the stars but your job was to protect, not love. Even if you wanted to you’d be afraid of doing it for competition now, even if you didn’t know how Mac felt about Desi you knew she liked him.
That point is proven when you’re interrupted by the heavy footsteps of three men. A shot is let off in the air before you have time to register that the shot was heading for Mac. Desi does her job which is the same as yours, stepping in front of the bullet, and letting it knock her to the ground. You don’t have time to think about it, you move on command, years of skill practically motorized into your being. Your gun is out your holster in seconds and you’ve shot all three men to the ground before anyone can think about it. It’s what you were built for.
“Shit Desi, are you okay?” it’s Mac’s voice that pulls you from combat mode. You turn to find he has taken position over her fallen form, both her hands and his own holding her wound tightly as she bleeds from her torso.
“Been better Mac” she tells him, voice straining like she’s clearly in pain. You see it in his eyes though. It’s what keeps you from rushing to her side as well. It was there all along and maybe he was just as good at hiding it as you or you were denial. He’s looking at her the way you would’ve looked at him if he was the one laying on that ground.
“Matty, we’re gonna need an exfil location stat. Desi has been shot” you call over on your comm’s and the worried voices from the other team members seem to make you sadder. Feeling abandoned by your team and guilty for allowing such personal feelings to make you seem so cold towards a girl who had never done anything wrong to you.
“Alright, hang in there Des. We’ll get you out of here” it’s the nickname that comes from his mouth that makes bile rise to your throat but when he cradled the girl in his arms it’s something else entirely. Pain worse than you’ve faced in the field sears through you and when Mac looks up at you, you decide it’s time to accept that this is your life now. Him and her. The real team.
What you don’t know is that Mac see’s it. The pain, it’s written clear as day across your face. It startled him for a moment because you never give anything up. A statue of a person and to see you seem so dejected is heartbreaking in a way he can’t comprehend. He knows it’s not worry for Desi, he’s sure that is inside of you somewhere, but the pain written across your face is one of longing. After months of wishing you’d reciprocate any feelings for him at all he realizes they were always there, just under the surface.
Matty pulled off an emergency extract quickly, and thankfully the debrief was quick due to worry of Desi’s condition. Everyone can tell you’re defeated, more than likely thinking it was from an unsuccessful mission. You let them, and go to your rented room in Mac’s home. For the first time in months wishing you didn’t live there. Thankful Bozer and Mac stayed back you pour yourself a heavy glass of wine, find yourself in a warm shower, and then curled on your bed in some pajamas with a book. You’re four glasses of wine deep and halfway through the book when you hear the front door open and close.
“I’m home” is called out. Mac who had been with Desi all this time. Bozer had come home hours ago, and was more than likely asleep. For the first time in a while you wished you had shut your bedroom door to avoid him, have a good night sleep in before you had to deal.
“Hey, you’re up” he’s in your doorway in seconds. You feel yourself sitting up and removing the reading glasses from your face. Mac always finds it odd seeing you like this. Curled up in a mound of blankets and pillows, the smell of fresh wine and a vanilla candle, silk sleep sets laid across your skin, hair piled high on your head. You were so soft compared to the girl in the field. The same girl he watched take down three men in lightning speed today. Now somehow you were in bed with a book. Weird how the world worked.
“Not really tired, is um. Is Desi okay?” you feel bad for not showing much interest in her well being. You just needed some time to think, some time to regain your composure.
“Last I checked yeah, I haven’t seen her for a couple of hours” he admits as he walks in. As he sits at the end of your bed you realize this isn’t uncommon. You two are still friends. No matter what you realized today.
“I thought you were with her?” you give him a puzzled look and he shrugs.
“I was, yeah. Then once I knew she was stable I went back to the Phoenix to fill out a mission report. Then Matty took advantage and got me to catch up on paperwork I’d been avoiding for a while” you can’t help the soft giggle that escapes your lips. Mac was a professional at avoiding the paperwork part of his job but every once in a while Matty could get her way.
“That’s on you for going back” you tell him and he chuckles along with you, head nodding.
“Could I ask you something?” he says once the laughter has quieted down and you find yourself getting exceptionally nervous. He can’t tell.
“Always Mac, it’s kinda my job” you tease which is true. When you were hired at the Phoenix Foundation it was literally to protect Mac in the field. You were pretty sure his name is in your exact job description.
“You’re not on the clock” he says which in a way was true but not really. It wasn’t uncommon for threats to breach your shared home, the minute that happens you’ll be protecting him then too.
“MacGyver, get to the question” you tell him even though you’d rather he walk out and never ask you any questions ever.
“Today you looked, well you never usually look like anything. But today you looked hurt, dare I say heartbroken” and you feel all the air sucked out of the room because you had shown emotions past your exterior and Mac had seen them.
“I don’t know what you mean” but you couldn’t look him in the eyes and he knew. He knew it deep in his bones.
“Look Y/N, maybe I could be wrong. That it was all just concern but if you feel anything for me the way I feel for you than that look was so much more than that” his words almost didn’t register. Your heart caught them before your head did. It was ramming against your rib cage and your head was snapping towards him because MacGyver of all people just admitted to having feelings for you.
“Feel for me?” you questioned quietly, your eyes locking on his own blue ones. You had seen Mac serious about many things before but somehow this seemed like more.
“Are you kidding me Y/N? Of course I have feelings for you. I spend all of my time with you considering we work and live together. On top of that you are always taking care of me and are the most interesting person I’ve ever met in my life. I was in love with you within a month of knowing you. Jack would always tease me about it” a small squeak left your throat at his confession. Wondering how you had never seen it before.
“Jack knew?” maybe it wasn’t the best question at the moment, but since Jack had passed it was hard to bring him up. Knowing he had passed away and there were things none of you guys got to tell him.
“Yeah, I always promised him I’d tell you how I felt one day and every day since he passed I’ve been breaking that promise more and more. So here I am not breaking it” he told you, a hand running wildly through his hair.
“What about Desi?” you wanted to make sure, needed to make sure.
“She’s just a friend. Most of the time I just flirted with her to get a reaction out of you” this was the most shocking of all. You’d expected him to say he had gained feelings for her too, but now as he sat at the end of your bed staring back at you with hopeful eyes you realized this was never the case.
“So it’s me?” you asked and a smile cracked across his face, a deep chuckle coming out as he dropped his head. His soft blonde locks dangling in front of his eyes.
“Yes Y/N. It’s always been you” he told you once he looked back up, and finally you allowed a real smile to cross your face.
“Well this is a first” you chuckled, hand reaching to grab your glass of wine. You gulped back the last sip and abandoned the empty glass, him watching you closely.
“What is?” he asked once you seemed to have your head straight.
“Having someone return the same feelings I have for them. I mean it usually never happens because I save face when it comes to emotions but here we are. You and me. In my room. Being adult and admitting things like attraction” you blabbered lightly and Mac laughed, a wide grin on his face. You suddenly had the urge to grab hold of the deep red shirt he had on, it matching the color of wine on your lips.
“So you’re admitting you like me too?” he asked and you just rolled your eyes before shoving your book out of your lap.
“Shut up and kiss me MacGyver” and he wasted no time, a devious grin crawling across his face as he moved to climb over to you. The anticipation of him getting closer seemed to take forever but finally he was face to face, arms locked on either side of you, and you took a moment to inspect every inch of him. “I have good taste”
“I do too” and then he was closing the gap between you both. Lips slotting gently against your own. His mouth was warm and soft, much different from his calloused hands. Your fingers tangled in his hair, mussing it around. Kissing him was like taking in a breath of fresh hair and pretty soon his tongue was dipping your mouth, tasting the wine left behind from your leisure afternoon. Tangling your tongue with his own you realize you could stay like this forever, just the two of you, in this room.
“It’s so not fair” you said once you broke apart, foreheads pressed together and heavy breaths panting out of both of you.
“What’s that doll?” he asked and you sighed.
“You’re good at everything else, you can’t be good at that too” and he was laughing, arms wrapping around you as he rolled over and pulled you on top of him.
“Don’t worry, I’ll show you what else I’m good at too”

Another MacGyver snippet for Cheese's amazing advent prompts, slightly delayed due to vacation and brief sickness...Day 2: Letters from Home featuring Jack and Mac.
~
It didn’t take long for soldiers to know the important things about their bunkmates in the sandbox.  With every day being practically the same as the one before, lacing up your boots and heading into the desert to track down enemies, disarm IEDs, and hopefully not get shot, you quickly formed bonds with the people doing the same job side by side.
This is why Jack knew that Sam was on the fifth draft of a letter to his girl, trying to propose to her in the best of words possible, even though they had only dated for three months before deployment.  Everyone knew that Jamie’s mom made the best cookies; she’d send enough so everyone could have one (they were common betting currency at poker nights) and that no one asked Tom about how his family was doing, having lost his daughter the year before to cancer.
But Mac?  Jack knew absolutely nothing about him.
Sure he knew that Mac was super smart, the best bomb nerd he’s ever seen out in the field, even though the kid had no self-preservation skills.  He knew Mac liked science, could put up a decent fight considering his size, and would fidget with paper clips.
But that was it.  Nothing about his family, about his life outside the sandbox, nothing really meaningful.
Mac did receive letters though, from back home.  Fairly frequently, occasionally having a care package alongside them.  Jack had been tempted to sneak a peek, see who was writing to Mac, making him laugh and smile as he read the letters.  Perhaps a girlfriend, or his parents?  But no, that would be crossing a line, one that Jack wouldn’t cross even though he was dying of curiosity.
So finally, Jack being Jack, decided he was just going to ask.  And with Christmas coming up, it was the perfect time to slide in the question.
“So what’s your holidays normally look like?” Jack asked, leaning back in the front seat of the Humvee.  They had been waiting for almost an hour for their next call, but nothing yet, which was odd in the desert.  Jack had already established that yes, Mac did celebrate Christmas, and no, he didn’t think Die Hard was a Christmas movie (although it was).  He’d have to work on bringing Mac to the right conclusion on that one.
“Well, Grandpa would order Chinese, and let me open my gifts on Christmas Eve,” Mac said with his eyes closed, but a grin across his face, obviously remembering the events fondly.  “Then I’d go to Bozer’s house on Christmas day around lunch time, and his mom would make the best Christmas pastrami ever for dinner.”
Jack stared at Mac, surprised at the amount of information Mac shared in two sentences.  He easily read between the lines, picking up on Mac not saying anything about his parents that he obviously lived with his Grandpa growing up.  He was also feeling very relieved that he had never asked about Mac’s parents.  But what is a Bozer?  And pastrami?
“Pastrami?  For Christmas dinner?”  Jack couldn’t help but exclaim, feeling confused as hell.
“Yeah, it's quite the story,” Mac chuckled, shooting a look across at Jack.
“Well, we got the time-” Jack started to say when the radio went off with a beep beep.
“Another day,” Mac said with a smile, snatching the radio from Jack’s hand and answering the call.
Yeah, Jack thought to himself as they drove off towards their next IED sighting.  Another day.

Ok, so I’ve been reading all your amazing thoughts on Macgyver 5x10 and I couldn’t agree more with everything that’s been said. I know I’m new here and none of you know me but I just have to add:
BOZER IS THE EPISODE MVP
Yeah, the MacRiley was... WOW and David Dastmalchian was a demon (and I mean that in the best possible way...) Loved every moment. But ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING about Boze shone in this episode.
He came upon Mac in mad science mode and instead of being judgemental, was supportive of his friend and his choices. He also went out of his way to be Riley’s brother- he can see what she’s going through (despite her protests) and reached out to warn her, to prepare her and let her know he was there for her.
His dynamic with Russ really broke through too. The bromance was lovely to see (darling) and their banter back and forth was witty and charming, right up until that tragic moment of oomf. That hurt. Honestly, Justin Hires was excellent, balancing the anger, the pain and the hurt beautifully.
Tumblr media
AND he literally saved all their asses in the end. Russ was so impressed that he was actually humble for a moment.
DOUBLE-O-BOZE WINS THE EPISODE.
Also, small side bar: the designer in me is DYING to see more of Riley’s apartment. Anyone else??

Thoughts & Theories about MacGyver 5x10 [MacRiley]
HOLY SHIT!
This episode was absolutely INSANE. Im writing out my thoughts once and for all because I need to stop thinking about everything that happened (I highly doubt I will be able to but here's to trying)
SPOILERS FOR 5x10 OFCOURSE
Tumblr media
Straight off the bat, I was screaming *internally* and yelling at Mac when he showed the diamond to Bozer. I suspected it yesterday when we got the snippet of Murdoc saying the words DIAMOND and RING with extra emphasis..(everyone on twitter said I was jumping to conclusions.. I thought so too honestly) But damn I did NOT expect them to actually do that!
Tumblr media
Now here's why I am not mad about it anymore. [this is my interpretation you are free to disagree]
Tumblr media
Firstly, when Mac told Bozer he was going to propose he didnt say I’m doing it because I love Desi or I want to spend the rest of our lives together or because she’s the one (doesn't mean he doesnt care for her ofcourse)
He said “Ever since I lost my dad & Jack, I have been thinking about the bigger picture and a commitment to make things work is exactly what Desi and I need right now. A grand romantic gesture.” He wanted to propose for stability so he could finally be on the same page with her. They never really defined their relationship before and this was a way for Mac to final bring it together. A grand romantic gesture is usually something people use to win their partners back which is what Mac was trying to do I guess. It almost sounds like he has to do it so he doesn't lose her again
(ill get to my second reason in the end)
Then ofcourse Bozer tells Riley about it so she can be prepared. Bozer is such a good friend. He is supportive of Mac AND wants to protect Riley. I love him for it! He really is doing everything to be the best friend he can to both of them. (Leannas death was so painful and I just want to hug him but thankfully Riley had that covered.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next we get the BIG REVEAL. The moment all of us had been waiting for.
The moment that SHOOK Angus MacGyver and CHANGED EVERYTHING!
Rileys Feelings!
“You want me to say it out loud? Fine. Yes I had feelings for Mac. There I said it. and yeah watching him and Desi together was breaking my heart so I moved out of his house. I should have said something to him a long time ago but I didn’t and now its over. ”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had the opposite of a HEART ATTACK! (my heart rate was through THE ROOF!)
I have to say they really really outdid themselves on this reveal.
SIDE NOTE: If anyone comes for Riley and tries to call her a slut or a home wrecker? You will have me to deal with. Even after Murdoc played the clip of her confession she still tried to deny it and brush it off so it wouldn't complicate things for Mac and Desi. If Riley had wanted, she could have easily told Mac this to his face while he was dating Desi and then let things happen from there but she DIDNT. She kept that secret buried so deep she herself was in denial.
(also if anyone calls Mac a player or anything like that.. I will end you. He is doing his best to deal with everything that has happened to him and people keep giving him shit for it....)
Anyways, we see Mac’s expression & he is just confused and shocked and clearly not trying to think about it because it changed EVERYTHING for him.
[Murdoc saying I THINK IM ON TEAM RILEY was a HUGE HIGHLIGHT for me! I love him so damn much!]
Desi took it really well too actually. If they keep going down this road of growth and maturity for her I think I could actually like her again. (Russ too when he apologised to Bozer)
She didnt throw a hissy fit or say I knew it or look at Riley like she was the villain. She focused on the mission & I respect her for that.
(Riley does say, “the next thing you are going to hear on that recording-” and then gets cut off by Desi.. If this will come into play at some point later on or if it was just her trying to explain herself, remains to be seen.)
Then after the climax, we finally hear Riley say the words to Mac in real time and we get our FIRST MacRiley hug of the season!
At this point I thought they would agree to be friends and make the friendzone thing clear BUT NOPE. (you have no idea how happy I am about it not going down like that!)
I was also a puddle on the floor. SO
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Mac look-”
“You don’t have to say anything if you dont want to. Really.”
Tumblr media
“I want to. Last year in Germany. I realised I was starting to have feelings for you. Real feelings. I didnt want to make anything weird between you and Desi. I didnt want to mess up our work or our friendship so I decided to bury it. Until the feelings passed.”
Tumblr media
“Emotions aren’t a science. You can’t control them.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gosh they are so perfect together! The way they look at each other and the HUG! OH MY GOD THE HUG! Its just perfection.
Now we also see this from Desi’s POV. Again no anger or jealousy from her. I think it was an understanding. She realised that she and Mac were never going to work.. maybe a little pain but honestly everything that went down with her and Mac was her fault too. The lack of trust and understanding was always a problem for them. Sure, things were going well but she didnt seem like she was ready for a commitment if im being honest. If Mac had proposed I think Desi would have said no.(again nothing wrong with that)
She didnt want to label their relationship..they haven't said the words I love you to each other and I dont think they even live together. It really was way too sudden.(these are just things im assuming people define how well a relationship is going by.. I have no experience.)
Tumblr media
Then ofcourse we have what im calling the goodbye scene. Its the break up before the break up in my opinion.
Desi tells Mac that they should pretend the last 24 hours never happened (that might actually include Mac wanting to propose but make of it what you will..) and that they should have a clean slate. But its very clear from Mac’s face and Desi sees it too that he isnt 100% onboard with it. He cant forget about it.
Tumblr media
Which is when Desi says “Look Mac just do whatever you feel is right” and Mac looks confused.
Tumblr media
She then gives him a goodbye kiss.
Look if you have ever watched any show/movie before where the characters are saying goodbye to each other or breaking each others hearts...THERE IS ALWAYS A KISS ON THE CHEEK. A final farewell of sorts.
Tumblr media
That is what it seemed like to me. It was Desi telling Mac to do what he has to. Even if it inevitably leads to their break up.
Again real emotional maturity from Desi here!
Then we get the scene, Monica Macer (the show runner) tweeted about back in December.
Mac knocking on someones door. If im being honest? I thought it was Desi’s place and he was going to propose...
BUT it turned out to be Riley’s.
Mac clearly hasn't stopped thinking about what happened. I wouldnt either if my best friend who has put her life on the line for me and trusts me 100%, now has feelings for me? That would turn my world upside down too.
especially if I had feelings for her that I buried so deep that I never acknowledged them.
Tumblr media
Also this is my scenario for how their first kiss goes down just FYI.. (Mac showing up at Rileys doorstep and finally confessing his feelings and kissing her *probably won't happen that way now though, but I still love it*)
Mac hesitates for a second before finally knocking on her door.
“Mac? Everything okay?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I can’t pretend like the last 24 hours didnt just happen. They did. So I gotta ask. Did it work?”
“Did what work?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Hiding your emotions and letting it pass. Did they go away?”
and I proceeded to pass out. My brain just checked out...
Now initially in all my freaking out I thought Mac was asking Riley about his feelings. If HE buried them deep enough would he still be able to move on with Desi but then I rewatched it and I realised he was asking RILEY if her feelings were still there, if there was still a possibility of something ever happening.
She never told him its all good now! my feelings are gone and it was a long time ago. She told him she buried it but he needed to know if a future with Riley was something tangible.
BASICALLY ANGUS MACGYVER ASKED RILEY DAVIS IF SHE WAS STILL IN LOVE WITH HIM. *I think I need to go to a hospital now*
So this was my second reason for not being annoyed about the proposal. The writers used it to show what a huge impact it would have on Mac. How much Rileys feelings would actually mean to him. the GAME CHANGER it would be.
A friend of mine said it was kinda funny and a little jarring but I liked it. (I could have done without the proposal) But I understand why they did it. They couldnt have Mac and Desi break up the same day Riley’s feelings came out because then people would hate Mac. They had to make him want to take the next step with Desi but then drop a bomb on him, that would make him question everything.
Again this is what I took away from it.
BUT GOSH WAS THIS EPISODE AMAZING!
I do get that some people are not happy with this and some said it was too sudden *not like we’ve been waiting since season 1 or anything* but I think after 5x11 things will slow down again. Mac may break up with Desi only at the end of the season when he finally comes to terms with his feelings. (Some people are still cautious and I get it but after everything that just happened I find it hard to believe that Mac and Riley won't end up together after all.. not to mention the leaked script conversation between Mac and Riley from 5x15)
Now I dont know how the final scene ends.. they definitely dont get called away for their solo mission immediately after because Mac’s cheek injury is relatively healed in this stills, which means Riley does answer Mac’s question. She may try to avoid it or deflect but he is standing right there so...who knows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next weeks episode is a MacRIley solo mission and lets just say things definitely are heating up a bit..*wink wink*
YUP IM HYPED.
BRING ON THE SEXUAL TENSION AND THE ANGST!

OH MY GOSH. Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh OH. MY. GOSH.
Okay, now that I've gotten that out of my system, here are my thoughts about Diamond + Quake + Carbon + Comms + Tower, in no particular order (spoilers ahead):
THE TRUTH IS OUT. I honestly went into this episode thinking that we were going to be faked out again, but they actually delivered! I loved everything about the reveal, though I think it was super irresponsible of Desi to throw out her comms because she didn't like what she heard, especially after Matty expressly told her not to.
I am honestly shocked that they gave Leanna's storyline closure. I never cared for her as a character myself, but I always loved how much Bozer cared about her. Justin's acting in this episode was phenomenal. It broke my heart. Great continuity, and amazing angst!
Okay, so you know at the beginning when Mac is talking about pressure? Yeeeaaahh, he's not just talking about diamonds. I'm not sure how the writers intended us to read that scene, but I did not see happy, entergetic man preparing to propose. I saw a man barely holding it together, on the verge of cracking, laughing and smiling and acting so exuberant in an effort to stave off everything bad he is feeling. There was a sense of wrongness about his energy in the beginning, like he's breaking apart at the seams. It was funny and cute, don't get me wrong, but... It was also chilling.
Look at Bozer putting Riley's feelings first. And the part of the conversation we hear during the big reveal is pretty much everything I could have dreamed. I still can't believe that MAC KNOWS.
The WHUMP in this episode!!! Hit by a car, out of breath after being forced to run for miles, the emotional manipulation and stress. And of course, Murdoc beating him to a pulp, all that manhandling and punching and shoving... Excellent whump.
I am, however, sorely disappointed in the lack of aftercare/consequences. At the VERY LEAST, Mac should have been moving stiffly, arms cradling his midsection, hunched over in pain. Come on, writers. People don't get the crap beat out of them and then walk away like it's nothing.
Again, though, the whump itself was excellent.
I also love the fact that this whole thing was a plot to get and execute Mac so that Andrews could take over Codex. I love a good revenge plot, and the fact that they were broadcasting the killing to Codex leaders gave me all the whumperflies.
Regarding the plot in and of itself, it doesn't make a ton of sense. I guess Murdoc chose to beat Mac to draw out the death and force him to suffer more, so that the revenge would be sweeter?? But I don't believe Murdoc could have actually killed him. He can't lose his rival, his muse, his favorite toy (an idea I explore in one of my fics, actually). I also don't really get why he would team up with Andrews. Well, my best guess is that he just wanted to play with Mac and Phoenix, and Andrews provided that opportunity.
Speaking of Murdoc, he was ON POINT. I adored every minute of his time on screen. And you all heard it too - he actually declared his love for Mac with the "better to have loved and murdered" line!! That just further proves his creepy, possessive obsession with Mac (another thing I explored in my fic)! So yes, Murdoc was the perfect villain. The only complaint is that I think he would have used Jack's death against them.
As far as Andrews goes, I do think he was criminally underused. He was such a great villain with so much potential, but there was almost no reason for him to be there with the way they used him. And I was very disappointed that his chain never ended up around Mac's neck.
Desi was... Interesting this episode. I'm not going any deeper into Mac's intended proposal, because they made it very clear that he is rushing things because of the losses (another mention of Jack, by the way!) and because of how close he is to caving under the pressure. But yeah, Desi was sometimes frustrating and difficult, but she was resigned and understanding at the end?? I'm not sure how to read her anymore.
I adored Russ in this episode. I love him anyway, but his energy, angst, angry breakdown... They were incredible.
The earthquake plot was unique too! I do wish we'd get a bit more MacGyvering in this season, though.
As a whole, everyone's acting was on a whole new level in this one! I was blown away by each and every performance!
Finally, THAT CLIFFHANGER. I am DYING!!!! So cruel. I really, really hope they do it justice in the next episode, which I cannot wait for!!
Overall, this has by far been my favorite episode this season! So, so, so good, despite my few nitpicks. I actually cannot get over just how much I enjoyed it - can't wait to watch it again tomorrow! :)

MACGYVER IS A MESS
I am furious right now. What is up with the writers? They are being so inconsistent right now. I mean I get it, it’s an action series but dude, if make a side story then at least be consistent.
I am going to post another rant of why I do not support Macdesi anymore but here I need to let my frustration as a writer and storyteller.
INCONSISTENCY
CHARACTERS
The one thing about writing characters is that they should have a consistent personality. Yes you can have character growth but you do just make a bitch queen bee turn into a sweet princess. They should have motive or experience trigger that makes them want to change. They could receive karma or get inspired by someone.
The thing with Mac here is that he is suddenly changing his life long values out of no where. Mac has always and I mean ALWAYS value trust. Especially in their line of work. So what I am wondering is that how is that Mac forgives the team, especially Desi, without a single thought. Mac quit the agency when he found out it was full of lies. He also stayed away for a year because of those lies. He left because he wanted to work in a place where he could trust the people with him. So what happened to the Mac who values trust more than anything?
Also, I get that Mac is dealing with a lot of issues but what happened to Mac’s loyalty and kindness to his friends? Yes he never stoped caring but the Mac we knew would always put his friends first. He doesn’t even talk much with Bozer anymore. He’s the only remaining best friend that he has. So how come he didn’t even go to comfort him when he heard about Leanne’s death? Not to mention, rather than grieving, Mac focuses more on the Riley and Desi drama.
Normally I wouldn’t have a problem with Riley but dude am I the only one pissed that Riley hardly grieve for Leanne? They were great friends. Probably the only girl that Riley has connected with after going to jain. So why did they make her unbothered about her death? I’m not asking for a full on close moment but a few tears wouldn’t hurt.
Plot
MacGyver is becoming BS. I mean seriously the whole MacDesi thing is getting on my nerves. The fact that they add scenes to make their relationship “strong” and “amazing” is utter BS. I mean when did Desi became “his guide in coming back to the light.” Did I miss an episode or something? And when did he take the compass with him?
Are going to ignore what happened to Russ’ gf or whatever sneaking in his lair thingy? What the hell happened to her? If this is just a side plot for the future then ok I’ll let it slide but if not then the whole story is useless.
They keep giving us characters who leave or die without any warning. Cage left without any foreshadowing or signs. Understandable, that’s just one character. But Leanne and Jack? Two more? Ok stop. The fact that they are just going to drop characters without any references from other episodes is just annoying. It’s like “ok, they died. So next up on the MacGyver.” I mean it was like they completely vanish.
OTHERS
Characters
Is no one bothered that the essence of Macgyver is gone? I started watching the series because of MacRiley but I came to love the science, the action and the friendship of everyone. Riley and Jack’s broken father daughter bond mending and growing. Mac and Jack’s tough guy and nerd brother relationship. Bozer and Mac as brothers in arms. Matty being the team’s cold mother. What happened to that? Now the only person who has glued the group is Riley. Riley was the only person to believe in Mac, to stay with Bozer in the bombing, to believe in Matty when she was framed and to try to sort out Desi’s issues. I want to see Riley and Russ bonding. Desi and Matty having a conversation outside of work. Bozer and Desi becoming friends. The new group honestly has become a standard working team.

Worth it
I missed writing these two, thinking about writing a full fic (not based off this) because I truly love these characters. Let me know what you guys think! Hope you like it! 😊
“Hey.” Mac greeted when he entered their home. “I missed you today.” He expressed pulling her into his embrace.
She squeezed him tightly and smiled. “I missed you too.” She mumbled kissing him. “How was the mission with Boze?”
“He almost got us killed.” He revealed. “Just a regular mission with Bozer.” He chuckled looking down at her.
“It should be alarming that we laugh at Bozer possibly being the cause of our death.” She stated caressing his cheek.
“So, how was your day off?” He wondered leading her to their couch. “Did you catch up on sleep? God knows you need it.”
She shook her head. “I couldn’t sleep without you.” She confessed cuddling him
“Riles.” He frowned lifting her chin, so she’d face him.
“Mac.” Riley mimicked wrapping her arms around him. “You’re my serotonin.” She said snuggling his chest and closing her eyes.
“Am I?” Mac questioned with a smirk.
She opened her eyes and giggled. “Well.” She looked down at her bump and grinned. “You’re also the cause of my recent insomnia.”
“Just a few more weeks and she’ll be here.” Mac announced resting his hand on her bump.
“Yeah, three more weeks of sleepless nights.” She complained. “She’s a night owl, like her mom I can’t even be mad.”
“I don’t know why you’re still working, Matty said you can take off whenever you need it.” Mac reminded her.
“She already forces me to take one day a week off and I’m no longer allowed to go on missions.” She huffed. “I’m pregnant not disabled.” She grumbled.
“Riles you’re on your final month of pregnancy.” He told her amused that she still wants to go on missions when she wasn’t physically able. “I know you want to continue living life like you aren’t literally growing a human, but you are, and you need to slow down a bit.”
“Okay but it’s not like I would be out on the field, I can be in the truck or something.” She suggested. “I would never put our baby in danger. Just one last joyride before we hang it all up for good.”
“We’re not hanging anything up.” He clarified. “We’re just going to be more behind the scenes at the Phoenix. This new group we’ve trained are amazing and have done well on their solo missions. You don’t trust them?”
“No, I do.” She sighed. “I’m just going to miss the craziness of it all.” She confessed, placing her hand on top of his. “But she’s worth it.”
“She’s worth it all.” Mac declared kissing her temple.

Quarantine Moments (5)
This is my two favorite things in one: space stuff and making these pining idiots feel things, so it ended up being way longer than I intended. Oops. Enjoy some meteor shower shenanigans. :)
*****
It’ll be fun, they promise.
We don’t need a tent, they say.  We’ll sleep in the bed of the truck, they say. We’ll all fit, they say.
It’ll be fun, they promise again.
Riley knows better than to take “It’ll be fun” at face value. Especially when it comes out of Mac’s mouth.
Five months into quarantine, when Riley’s favorite space nerds ask if she wants to drive out to the desert to watch a meteor shower, she agrees immediately. It’s a quick out and back trip. The plan is to have an early dinner, drive out to the desert for the night, and leave early in the morning before the August sun cooks them alive. Riley balks at their plan to sleep in the truck instead of a tent—sleeping in a truck bed always hurts, no matter how many blankets and pillows there are—but the boys’ excitement is infectious, and Riley can’t bring herself to say no.
They argue about where in the desert to go. Mac wants to drive all the way to Death Valley, but Riley and Bozer shoot it down immediately. A four hour car ride is too far for an overnight trip. Then Bozer suggests Joshua Tree, but Mac claims it’s too popular. (Like there will be flocks of tourists there during a pandemic, but whatever.) So Riley forces them to compromise on Anza Borrego. It’s farther than J Tree, but not nearly as far as Death Valley, and they can pick up breakfast burritos in San Diego on their way home.
Mac and Bozer never object to breakfast burritos.
The boys do all the planning and preparation, so when Mac tosses Riley the keys to the truck, she’s almost surprised. “You’re driving,” he says. “Bozer’s in the back.”
“Man, why am I always in the back?” Bozer complains.
“Because Riley is a better driver than you.” Content to let them bicker, Riley smirks and starts the engine.
“No,” Bozer corrects from the middle seat, “Riley is a faster driver. Not better.”
At the same time, Riley and Mac both say, “Same thing.”
“Unbelievable.”
The drive goes much faster with Riley behind the wheel, although she refrains from rubbing it in. The sky shifts from lavender to deep blue to inky black as they drive away from the setting sun.
It always amazes Riley that they can be so close to SoCal’s endless suburban sprawl, and yet be in the absolute middle of nowhere.
The moon is barely more than a sliver in the sky, and when they drop down into the desert, the vast darkness swallows the headlight beams. Riley rolls her window down, feeling the dry, balmy air caress her cheeks and neck.
She figured someone else would have the same idea as them, but there isn’t another human soul as far as Riley can see. Even farther, most likely.
When Riley gets out of the truck, the first thing she does is look up. The sky isn’t black at all, but rather a deep indigo alight with more stars than she could count in a thousand lifetimes. The Milky Way arcs overhead, and Riley’s eyes track it from one end of the horizon to another. It makes her feel small.
It’s comforting, Riley thinks, to be reminded of her insignificance in the grand scheme of the universe, a welcome break from the constant world-ending consequences of her daily life.
The trio get to work making their bed for the night. Mac’s two-person camping mattress goes down first, then the pillows and blankets. They didn’t even bother to bring sleeping bags since the nighttime temperature would only dip into the mid-seventies.
Riley finds a tumbleweed near the front of the truck to pee behind before joining Mac and Bozer in the back. They’re lying on opposite sides of the truck bed, leaving as much space as possible for her in the middle. Realizing how close she’ll be to Mac, Riley takes a deep, steadying breath, grateful that it’s too dark for the boys to see her face. She should’ve begged Bozer to take the middle when she had the chance.
Cursing herself for wearing booty shorts and a tank top, Riley tries not to notice how her bare skin brushes Mac’s as she squeezes into her spot. She blushes anyway. There is definitely not room for three people. They should’ve just brought the damn tent.
She misses the days when she could be in Mac’s personal space without every nerve in her body being acutely aware of how close he is. Everything was so much easier then.
Covering herself in one of the thinner blankets—more for comfort and security than anything else—Riley sinks into the pillows and looks up. She knows the Perseids originate from the constellation Perseus, but there are so many stars that she gets lost trying to orient herself in the sky. As she opens her mouth to ask for help, a bright silver light zips across the horizon, gone in less than a second.
“Did you see that?” Bozer squeals.
Riley laughs softly. “Yeah, but I have no idea where it came from, or where I should be looking.”
It’s Bozer’s turn to laugh. “For starters, don’t look straight up. Look near the horizon.” He points toward a random spot in the distance, his hand a dark shadow covering the glittering sea beyond. “As Perseus gets higher in the sky during the night, the meteors will appear to come from higher up too.”
Riley nods before realizing he’s not paying attention. “Thanks.”
As she studies the heavens, the sense of ease settles over her once again. Riley feels her body start to let go of the stress she’s been holding onto for months—the awkwardness of living with Mac, the endless pile of work stuff she has no motivation to do, worrying about her mom and Bozer’s parents, waking up every morning to increasingly batshit news headlines. Out here, she can escape, if only for a few hours.
Riley catches three meteors in quick succession, each darting across the sky in a completely different direction. Mac hasn’t said a word since they laid down, so when Bozer gets up to pee, Riley nudges him with her knee and says, “You’ve been quiet.”
Mac doesn’t look at her as he speaks, his gaze locked on something straight overhead. “Ancient Chinese astronomers believed Vega and Altair were lovers, forever kept apart by the Milky Way.” He points. “Vega is one of the brightest stars in the sky. It’s in the constellation Lyra. And over there is Altair, which is part of Aquila, the eagle.”
Riley hesitates, trying to separate fact from innuendo. A pit forms in her stomach as she understands why he’s drawn to these stars in particular.
Mac must mistake her silence for being unable to find the stars, because suddenly his arms are around her and he’s pulling her toward him so her head rests on his shoulder.
His touch feels like stars dancing on her skin.
Mac’s bicep grazes her cheek as he points again, and Riley has no trouble following the line of his arm to a particularly bright star nearly straight up. That must be Vega, the bright one. The other blends into the Milky Way too well for Riley to pick it out. Her voice catches as she half-lies, “I see it.” His arm drops, but instead of letting her go, Mac’s hand rests on her ribcage.
Riley nearly stops breathing as her heart pounds loud enough that she’s sure Mac can hear it. She doesn’t know what to do. This is uncharted territory, him holding her like this. They’re in each other’s personal space all the time, but they’re never handsy. Riley has never been a very touchy person, and she knows Mac isn’t either.
So this...Riley doesn’t know what to make of this.
“Show me something else,” she manages. Mac takes a shaky breath beneath her.
He points in a different direction. “Over there are Sagittarius, which looks like a teapot, and Scorpius, which looks like a hook or the letter ‘J.’” Riley finds the constellations easily. “Between them is the supermassive black hole that exists in the middle of the galaxy. All of the matter in the Milky Way orbits around it.”
Riley smiles. Mac and his black holes.
Bozer is taking an awfully long time to pee, and Riley starts to think there might be an ulterior motive to his disappearance. She hollers, “You good, man?”
“Yeah! Got a little performance anxiety from this creepy bug staring at me.”
Riley and Mac burst out laughing. Tears sneak out of Riley’s eyes as she holds her stomach, giggling until her lungs ache. Just when she starts to get it together, Riley makes the mistake of looking up at Mac, and they both crack up all over again.
If Riley could stay in this moment forever, she would. Laughing with Mac feels like stepping into a patch of sunlight on a chilly day.
Mac is still looking at her when they finally recover. Not in Bozer’s direction, not up at the stars, but at her. Riley bites her lip. She could do it right now. Tell him how she feels.
But a bigger part of her knows that it’s not the right time, no matter how much she wants it to be, no matter how many small moments give her hope that she’s not alone in her feelings. Relationships with a messy beginning never last. Right now, they’re not meant to be, but Riley lets herself hope that maybe, just maybe, in the future, they will be.
Until then, she’ll do whatever it takes to protect her heart. Starting with loving him quietly, and never expecting anything other than platonic love in return. Just having him in her life is enough.
Bozer climbs back into the truck, and Riley moves to extricate herself from Mac. His arm tightens around her at first, but when Riley pulls away again, Mac lets her go. She doesn’t think about what it might mean if she stayed.
The three of them lay together for hours, just looking up at the stars, until Bozer yawns. Riley can’t help but follow suit.
“Mac,” Bozer says. “Did you set the alarm?”
“Yeah. My phone is right here.” Mac pats a pillow above Riley’s head.
She can’t believe what she’s hearing. “Alarm?”
Mac explains, “The meteor shower’s peak is between three and four am. So unless you’d rather stay up all night...” He trails off.
Riley groans. Of course.
She pulls up a second blanket and rolls onto her side, facing Bozer. Safely tucked between her boys, Riley drifts off almost immediately.
~
Riley wakes before the alarm goes off, struggling to breathe. It feels like someone’s sitting on her chest.
When she opens her eyes, Riley realizes it’s two someones.
She’s lying on her back. Between Mac’s arm thrown over her shoulders and Bozer using her chest as a pillow, their combined weight is uncomfortably heavy. They probably got cold and rolled toward her in their sleep. The thought makes her smile. Riley rolls onto her side to dislodge Bozer and ends up flush against Mac’s chest. His warm breath tickles the back of her neck, sending shivers down her spine.
Shit. She should’ve included not torturing herself in her resolution to love him quietly.
Riley tries to move again, but it’s futile. She’s stuck. As if to further prove her point, Mac’s arm slides down her body and wraps around her waist, pulling Riley closer like she’s his favorite teddy bear. The gesture makes her melt. Bozer reaches out then, sleepily trying to find his missing pillow, and his hand settles on Riley’s forearm. If Jack could see them now, he’d kill Mac and Bozer without a second thought, but Riley likes being wrapped up in her boys, likes feeling warm and wanted and protected.
She’s still smiling when she falls back asleep.
~
The alarm blares in her ear, and Riley can’t do anything about it. Her arms are trapped. She groans. “Turn it off.”
A weight lifts from her side, and then an arm bumps her face as someone mercifully turns the alarm off, followed by a mumbled “Sorry.” Riley isn’t awake enough to recognize the rough, sleepy voice. It sounds nice though, she thinks. She wouldn’t mind hearing it again.
The weight returns, and the same voice says, “I hit snooze. You have five minutes.”
It’s Mac, she realizes with a jolt. Bozer would never be so merciful.
Now she really wants to hear that voice again.
Mac strokes her shoulder, coaxing Riley into consciousness, and damn him, it works. Her eyes flutter open. It’s still dark out, and Bozer faces them, his head resting beside Riley’s chest, the comma to her and Mac’s quotation marks.
“Riles, move. I have to pee.” Swallowing her disappointment, Riley uses her feet to push Bozer back to his side, taking back her space.
“I’m awake,” he slurs.
Riley feels Mac’s chest rumble as he chuckles. “Sure you are.” He gets up, and Riley immediately mourns the loss of contact.
He’s back by the time the alarm goes off again, and this time Riley turns it off herself before sitting up to stretch, her joints popping softly. The stars look completely different now. Riley still doesn’t know how to find Perseus, or even what the constellation looks like, but it doesn’t matter. The meteors are more frequent now, nearly two a minute. Most are quick, bright flashes, but a few are slower, gracefully crossing the sky before burning up.
Someone—Bozer—kicks her in the back. “Riley stop blocking the view.” Rolling her eyes, she lays back down.
She’s exhausted, and her body hurts, but it’s all worth it when a massive, glowing meteor arcs across the sky in slow motion, lingering for a few seconds before winking out of existence. “Wow,” Riley whispers.
Mac and Bozer promised her fun, and sure enough, they deliver.
Riley hovers in that sweet spot between sleep and being awake until the sky lightens and the first rays of sunlight stretch across the desert. The air seems to hum, the way it always does in announcement of the scorching summer sun. Riley and the boys pack up in record time, and Mac blasts the air conditioner even though it’s barely six am.
Leaning into the pile of pillows occupying most of the backseat, Riley orders, “Wake me up when you have my burrito. Goodnight.”
She dreams of shooting stars and the warm embrace of a certain blonde nerd.

Secrets+Surprises
I wrote this earlier but almost forgot to post it!!! Anyway, in honor of it being Mac’s canon birthday AND National Puppy Day...here’s a fic with both!
In Mac's defense, it's hard to keep track of days when your sleep schedule is nonexistent and you're focused on trying to stay alive while being chased through the Alaskan forest by a very determined gang of smugglers.
The only thing on his mind after he managed to turn their broken Sat phone into a device to signal Riley to his and Jack's location, and managed to capture the head of the smuggling ring in the meantime, is going home, taking a hot shower, and falling into bed and sleeping the clock around.
So he's surprised when instead of loading up onto the jet once the chopper that came to get them drops them off at the airfield, Jack instead ushers Riley and Bozer off the Phoenix plane.
"Where are we going?" Mac asks. Jack just grins and leads them all toward an old pickup truck with heavy tires that's parked near the landing area.
Riley has the same smug grin that Jack does when Mac tries to worm the truth out of her, so he finally just settles into the back seat with a blanket and dozes as the truck winds along an old dirt road.
When it stops, Mac looks up and then promptly stares in awe.
They're in a valley, near a small lake, and overlooking it is a huge log building, surrounded by smaller cabins. Jack parks in front of one of the medium-sized cabins, and almost immediately a dozen wolves...no, wait, huskies, leap out from behind the building.
They're followed by a man in a worn jacket and a baseball cap with some sort of mountain logo on it. Jack steps out of the car and pulls the guy into one of his handshake hugs, and the others pile out as well. Riley drops straight to her knees on the gravel, laughing as she fends off the overzealous tongue of a brown dog that looks more like a bear than anything to Mac's eyes, Bozer is trying to get a black and white husky with very expressive eyebrows to pay attention to the stick in his hand, and Mac...can't stop looking around in amazement.
"Long time no see, Dalton, what finally got your butt in gear and made you decide to pay a social call?" The man asks, and Mac wanders over toward them, absentmindedly rubbing the head of the big grey dog that's come up and pressed itself against his leg.
"Ah, well, truth be told I was in the neighborhood, Dave," Jack says. "Can't talk about why, you know the drill. But...it's my kid's birthday and we've earned some time off." He turns to Mac. "Good surprise?"
"I'm...Jack it's perfect." Mac smiles. He'll happily take a few more days away from the smog and traffic of L.A. And even if the weather is a bit on the chilly side, he doesn't really mind, he's got his whole family and he can see the sturdy stone chimney of a fireplace rising behind their cabin, and a stack of wood on the porch.
And there's the dogs. Mac hasn't had a dog since Archimedes. He's never had time to take care of one properly. And being surrounded by them like this is wonderful.
"Looks like Smoke took a liking to you," Dave says, turning to Mac. "She's got a litter of puppies just now up at the main lodge. You want to come meet them? And hear a few stories of the things your old man got up to downrange?"
"I heard that," Jack says, but he's chuckling.
Mac nods. "I'd love to."

Y’all.....I have no words. This episode was just *chef’s kiss* for sooooo many reasons! Here are my favourite parts: (spoiler alert!!!)
SOME BACKSTORY FOR DESI! Honestly, I wasn’t a huge fan of Desi before. I didn’t hate her, but she was kinda just....there. She didn’t have much dimension. She wasn’t very relatable. But this is a huge step in the right direction! She has some actual character now! She openly acknowledged why she hasn’t been as invested in their relationship as Mac is. She was hung up on her ex, who she lost very tragically. And she admitted that Mac was sort of a replacement of Evan in her life. She also admitted that she would work to let go of him and focus on Mac! Y’all I’m soooo happy about this! They’re learning to communicate! Obviously we don’t know where they will end up, but this is a massive step towards real progress and I could not be happier.
Bozer and his happy dances. I love it so much
The costumes this episode! I’ve never noticed costumes in a MacGyver episode as much as I have this one. Levy and Lucas looked amazingly attractive and I just....*dies*
Matty reading body language like the absolute boss that she is. Incredible.
I love that Desi and the princess connected. Although I love to see my queen kicking ass, it’s so nice to see her just being a friend.
Sofia....I don’t know about her. I just don’t know.
I’m really curious to see exactly what Riley is up to. We all know she’s cooking up something good.
We’re getting Jack mentions now. He actually fucking exists in their universe again. I’m gone for Monica y’all. She’s making this show amazing again.
I’m fucking in love with these new episodes Monica is heading. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next week!

Finally watched MacGyver 5x03
You might have read some of these sentences before, so bear with me ;-)
I don't think the episode itself is too bad regarding the storyline. Bit of wonky writing but we're used to that by now *lol*. What I do hate is how they keep deconstructing the characters and praising a toxic relationship.
I always assumed “the scene” was an undercover mission and that there might be no kiss after all for MacRiley, so not really surprised. It was a bit disappointing though that they used this short scene for the promotion of the entire episode since nothing came of it.
They got some flack from fans that the first two episodes were too Desi- and Russ-centered. Maybe they felt they had to not press too much on the kidnapping storyline? This was the main storyline though; did the guest-stars even get any mentions?
What's worse is that the writers fed into it by re-posting and tweeting so much; feeding the frenzy of MacRiley fans. And then wondering about the repercussion. Of course we would be disappointed, what did they expect? *lol* And in my opinion, the fans stayed mostly civil. If they were put off by this and blocking people, they’ve never experienced full fandom rage *loL*.
What I do hate is how they keep deconstructing the characters. MacRiley fan or not, we all know it wasn't Desi who led Mac back from Codex. Who went after him to get him back. Bozer enabling MacDesi aka Mes(s)y is weird. And why does Mac keep apologizing to Desi? She should cut him some slack, at least - or start apologizing herself for once. Yes, there's stuff he could have handled better - if his mental health had been firing on all cylinders. He did what he could to save his loved ones and the world, so for the greater good. Isn't that was Desi as a soldier would have done, too?
And I’m fine with rebooted Mac not being a Macho hero, but why does he have to beg for Desi spending time with him; date or no date? I get that Desi doesn't like fishing or painting but that wasn't the point... how often do we do stuff that we don't really like that much with partners, family or friends? Because it's about spending time with each other... time is precious once you start adulting. Especially if you’re working in the spy-agency-fake-Think-Tank-business.
It’s understandable that Mac keeps clinging to someone after losing so much lately. Yes, some people are not good with their emotions or with relationships. But the way she treats him... shouldn’t Bozer try to intervene? Why do the others keep making him feel like it was his fault the relationship fell apart?
As I said, I'm fine with rebooted Mac not being a macho hero but everyone enabling Desi's emotional abuse and neglecting Riley's good influence on Mac's mental health is weird. Desi keeps gaslighting Mac and the others are following along instead of acknowledging and helping. It’s like Lenkov against Lucas come to screen. It would be an amazing point if they tried to show us that how Desi treats Mac is wrong but I don’t think that’s what they’re doing. And I doubt they’re going to write Levy out of the show. It would be a pity to lose Levy because I like her a lot but I have no clue how they still think they can redeem Desi enough for fans to like and accept her, no matter if she stays dating Mac or not.
That's it for now. More of my ramblings on my blog, in the MacGyverOnline forums and on Twitter. You know where to find me ;-)

chapter 4 of ‘you matter to me’ with Angus Macgyver
Tumblr media
chapter 4
series summary:  mac being scared to admit that he’s in love with you after his failed relationship
series warnings: angst, fluff, previous relationship, injuries & strained family relationships
word count: 1K
Tumblr media
You never fail to amaze me. Every day there is something new that makes me love you even more than the day before.
The next couple of days had been emotionally draining for you. You had to explain to Mac why you had reacted the way you did, and he had done what he could to comfort you without showing you how angry the whole situation had made him. The last thing he wanted was to see you upset, and he hated knowing how unhappy your own family had made you.
After another long mission you had taken the time to unwind by yourself. As much as you loved Mac’s support, there were still feelings you had to go through and deal with yourself, which is why you were flabbergasted when Matthew showed up at your door.
“What are you doing here?” You spoke emotionally exhausted.
He exhaled, “I’m not here to fight or make you upset. Your father told me what your mother was trying to do by setting us up again. I wanted to tell you that is the last thing I wanted. Your father could obviously see how happy you were with your boyfriend and the last thing I want is to take something good away from you. I hurt you, a lot. I put you through a lot and I have no right to come back into your life expecting everything to have changed. I just wanted to tell you, I told my parents the truth, everything I put you through. Understandably they were very upset, and they made me promise to apologize and never see you again but before that, I wanted you to know I’ve been getting help. For both my anger and my drinking problem. You walking away has made me realise how much I messed up, not just with you but with my family and work. I am so sorry.”
You just stood there as he poured out his feelings. You had waited years for some kind of apology and now that he was standing here, you didn’t know how to react. After everything he had put you through, you were glad to hear he was getting the help he needed, and he was able to amend his relationship.
“You put me through hell in the years we were together but I’m glad you’re getting help. I’ve moved on and for the first time in a long time, I’m truly happy and I wish the same for you. All the best Matthew. I may not be able to forget what you put me through, but I forgive you.” Your grandmother had always taught you that forgiveness was liberating rather than holding on to an unnecessary anger. You were happy and nothing was going to change that.
There must have been something in the air that day because hours after Matthew had left, your father had turned up at your door, seeking your forgiveness too. You had always been close to your father so you really hoped you could repair your relationship with him without the influence of your mother.
“I am so sorry. I have failed as your father. I’ve realized that how submissive I have become to your mother over the years and how unhappy I have been. I haven’t been the father you or your brother deserve. So, I signed the divorce papers this morning. I want to start anew with you and your brother, I’m going to be talking to him after I talk to you.” Your father confessed. You could see the shame clouding his eyes and how he refused to look you in your eyes.
You sighed before holding his hands in yours, “I love you. All my life you have been my biggest supporter, the person that was there for me no matter what, but you did let me down, dad and that’s going to take some time to come to terms with and move on from. I love you, you’re my dad but in order for us to move on, baby steps is what I need.”
“And baby steps is what we’ll do.” You father agreed as he nodded, “I want to make this work. I want to be in your life. I want to have a relationship with my children and if you’re more comfortable with taking it slow, then that is what we will do.”
You got up to hug him, “Thank you dad. I’ve missed you.”
“I’ve missed you too, kiddo.” He replied as he hugged you tighter.
It felt good to forgive. So much weight had been lifted off your shoulders and Mac had noticed as you sat on the sofa that night. He and Bozer had met up with some old friends and returned home late that night. You were sat watching Harry Potter once again when he had joined you on the sofa, cuddling close to you.
“You seem happier.” He spoke softly.
You nodded, “I am. My father and Matthew were here.”  You tightened your hold on him when you noticed him tense up, “it’s okay. I listened to what they had to say, and I forgive them. I’m done holding on to so much anger. Matthew walked away knowing I was happy and wanted nothing to do with him. My dad and I are going to try and repair our relationship. I still can’t believe he divorced my mother.” Well actually that was a lie, you could. Your mother had always been controlling and you hated the way she treated your dad. You had always hoped he would find the courage to walk away, it just sucked that it took this long.
“Certainly, sounds like you had an eventful day. Are you happy?”
“I am. You make me happy; our friends make me happy. I know I still have some feelings that I need to sort through, but I wake up everyday ready for what is to come. I’m comfortable in my own skin and I’m proud of what I have accomplished and ready for what I could accomplish. I see a future for us, and I want nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with you. You’ve always made me feel like I can do anything and that I’m first place in your life. You make me happy and I want a future with you.”
“I like the sound of that.”

How I know MacRiley is endgame (and MacDesi isn’t)
First, I have to say that I have nothing against the actors and I think they’re all doing an amazing job.  Second, clearly I’m not a MacDesi fan, but I don’t hate Desi. I think she’s a good person (a bit bitter, but she is one of the good guys) and she deserves happiness, but not with Mac. She deserves to have that special bond with someone, just like Mac and Riley do (perhaps with her ex, because they never found the body?). Third, I do think that Mac and Desi have passion and lust, but that’s it. Their relationship lacks love and trust, and it’s super important to have that in a relationship. I also have to say that English is not my first language, so bear that in mind. With that being said, here are my reasons (until 5×12):
Riley and Mac have so much in common: father issues, a deep connection with Jack, trust is everything to them, they’re both nerds, and both of them can improvise (actually, Riley learned to improvise from Mac). When you look at it, the only thing that Mac and Desi have in common is their lucky number and them not being big fans of guns.
Mac and Riley have their own place, where they can play and eat greasy pizza.
Riley followed Mac when he went “rouge” and said she trusts him.
She realized she has feelings for him in Germany when he was holding her hand. On that note, he held her hand the second time when he thought they were going to die (4×12).
Mac said to Bozer he and Riley had a moment when he was dating someone ELSE.
Mac told Riley things he never told anyone, including his best friend and his girlfriend (who was his ex-girlfriend at the time).
All the things they said to each other (you don’t hear “just friends” talk like that):
“There’s nothing you can’t handle, Mac”.
“Because at the end of the day, I trust you Mac.”
“You mean to world to me.”
“I trust you. Implicitly.”
“Of course I do. I see you.”
“I’m always listening to you.”
“I’ll always have your back, Mac.”
When Jack died they were there for each other. Mac came to Riley when he wanted to have a Die Hard marathon, when Desi knew Jack too. But instead of going to her for comfort, he came to Riley, the one person who gets him the most, because he knew both of them were grieving and understand each other better than anyone.
Even his own aunt teased them. Riley, Mac and Gwen knew Riley wasn’t his girlfriend (“you know I’m not his girlfriend”), and yet she teased them, probably because she knew there was something between them.  On that note, after that Mac made it very clear: “we’re a package deal.”
Bozer is a MacRiley fan too. Back at the end of season 3 he said Mac and Desi equals messy. Besides, when he heard Mac was going to propose, he was shocked and disappointed and went straight to Riley. When you think about it, if her feelings were really gone, Bozer didn’t have to go and warn her. He could’ve wait for Mac to propose and then see how she’s doing, but he didn’t do it because she still has feelings for him.
In 4×1, when Russ asked Mac to gather back his team, the first person he went to was Riley, when the last person was Desi. I get why he went to Desi last (they had a messy breakup), but he didn’t have to go to Riley first. Actually, Mac has known Bozer since childhood, when he met Riley only a few years ago. That tells me their connection is so deep that she was the first person he wanted back on his team. Not to mention that when he saw her (after a long time of not keeping in touch) he called her Riles and said she looked good (she was wearing a WORK t-shirt, which was PURPLE).
When Mac explained to Bozer why he wanted to propose to Desi, he never said anything about love. He wanted to propose because it was “the right thing to do”. Even in 5×12 Mac said to Desi he wanted to propose so he wouldn't lose her, and again didn't say a thing about love (we all know about Mac’s fear of losing the people he cares about, but it’s not a reason to get married).
When Russ accused Mac for telling the truth to the merchandiser (4×11) he asked Riley first if she believed it, and in return she said “it’s hard not to worry about you, Mac”. She was his first choice, and she never doubted him.
In 4×12 Riley went after Mac because she wanted to protect him.
Mac admitted he always thought there was a wall between Riley and him but it was actually a door, meaning - he always had feelings for her, but he thought she never felt the same. After that, he told her to keep the door closed because she said her feelings went away.
When Mac heard about Riley’s feelings he looked at the ring and went to HER apartment, because, as he said, he “can’t forget the last 24 hours” as his girlfriend suggested. Hearing she had feelings for him changed everything for him.
When Aubrey broke up with Riley she went to Mac’s place, even though she could’ve go elsewhere (to Bozer’s place or to a hotel, for instance). And she brought him food, like she knew he didn’t eat anything at the fancy restaurant.
You don’t see “just friends” hug like Mac and Riley (take Riley and Bozer, for example). And you don’t see “just friends” hug THAT much (again, Riley and Bozer). It’s like they’re trying to find excuses to touch each other.
They flirt with each other, which “just friends” don’t do. Take 4×5 for example: when they pretended to be newlyweds, they were having WAY too much fun planning their honeymoon. This cover story was just for the night, and yet they made a whole conversation about it. When you compere it to 2×16, Mac and Leanna’s cover story was also a married couple, and they never brought their honeymoon up or even talked about their “so called” marriage (and that mission was lasted at least two days).
Even though Mac said “I love you” to Desi, she never said it back (and after 5x12 we know why).
Riley and Mac make each other laugh, while Desi doesn’t make Mac laugh as much as Riley does.
Mac and Riley defend each other. When Jack wanted to rescue Riley from the hackers team (2×2), Mac stopped him with his body and told him: “you’ll have to go through me. she can handle herself.” Right before Jack found out about Riley’s feelings for Billy, Mac also defended her and told Jack “she has great instincts. She needs you to trust her.” Mac also defended Riley in 4×9, when he said “she’s only trying to help.” Similarly, when the team thought Mac had switched sides Riley defended him and said: “you’re siding with Taylor over Mac, who doesn’t have an evil bone in his body.” And if that wasn’t enough, in order to protect him she deleted the footage of Mac and Scarlett escaping Phoenix.
Back in season 2 Mac was the one to notice Riley and Billy liked each other, when even Jack, who had known Riley for a long time, didn’t notice. That tells me he pays attention to her.
When Mac heard about Riley and Aubrey living together he was clearly jealous.
After hearing Riley never had snow on Christmas, Mac made a snow machine and they hugged for the first time.
Riley was the one who convinced Mac to give his father a second chance (3×4).
If I’m not mistaken, Mac was the first person who called Riley “Riles” (as far as I can remember, Jack used to call her Ri).
They know when the other is lying. In Germany Mac said to Riley “you don’t smile like that when you talk to your dad,” which also means he sees her. Back in season 3, when the team went to a wedding (3×14) Riley said to Mac, “you know, you’re a terrible liar.”
All Riley wants is for Mac to be happy, which is why she hides her feelings. She even said it a few times, and she also told Mac to not screw it up with Desi this time (5×3).
They’ve been there for each other when they were needed the most. When Riley broke up with Billy Mac comforted her and made her laugh. When Mac thought he couldn't disarm the Ghost’s bomb (3×8), she was the one to tell him “you always say emotions are more dangerous then the bomb at your feet. You can do this.” She was also there for him in 3×22, when she told him that there’s nothing he can’t handle.
After hearing his secret in 4×4, Riley promised Mac he would never be alone and he did the same.
They finish each other sentences (take 2×2 or 4×2 for example).
They always amaze each other (“you never cease to amaze me”). In 5×11, on the plane, Mac says to Riley “great work”. You can see Mac is impressed even after more than 4 years of working with her.
Mac just couldn’t let go of the idea that Riley had feelings for him, and all through 5×11 he keeps bringing it up, even though Riley doesn’t want to talk about it.
Based on the last conversation of Mac and Desi from 5×12, the only reason Mac wants Desi to move in with him is to find out if he is a replacement for her ex or not.
So with all that being said, have faith because we’re nearly there!

Why s5 *might* be the season MacRiley happens
Okay so...Hear me out! I'm not crazy I promise!!
Firstly, after 5x03 (and probably 5x04) it may seem very unlikely that MacRiley could ever happen. But I thought of a few reasons why they might actually happen by the end of s5 after all.... (it gets a lil long winded and kinda complicated but just stick with me till the end!)
1. All the MacRiley moments including the ones in 5x03.
[this Mac smile could not be an accident or something that slipped through both production and post-production right?! that in itself is a whole reason!]
Tumblr media
Every Macriley moment we have ever had- whether it's the hugs, Riley saving Mac, Mac saving Riley, the ultimate show of loyalty when Riley went after Mac during Codex or even just the looks exchanged between the two- to any outsider it would seem pretty obvious that they are dating or at least in love. Keep in mind the writers would have written each of those scenes and Lucas and Tristan have acted them out with a specific build up in mind aka MacRiley.(think about the date episode: Riley just got dumped but was still thinking about how Mac might be hungry. She didnt have to do that. She could have just shown up at his place..) I mean how can they write two people so perfectly in sync and so perfect for each other and not have them end up together? It would just be a waste of all that tension and slow burn. (not to mention all the hugs and glances)
Tumblr media
2. They know we exist.
The MacRiley fam is very active on twitter with the writers and while they were writing 5x01 they knew we were around. They know we are a huge group. They would not want to risk pissing 90% of the fandom off by not making MacRiley endgame.
[P.S.yes 5x03 was a bait and switch but if you were paying attention you would have noticed that neither Lucas not Tristan live tweeted or hyped up the episode. They knew we would probably hate it so they didnt publicise it too much! so in the future if you have doubts about the episode being a MacRiley one just check their stories or posts on twitter/intstagram]
Tumblr media
3. Yes 5x03 happened.
I really think it was an episode they HAD to write. Ok so after 4x13 they had 7 more episodes planned and were filming 4x20 (aka the finale) when the pandemic struck. So they have these 6 episodes but no finale for it. [Idk if anyone else has noticed but in 5x01 there were clearly some parts cut out. For example the conversation between Desi and Riley towards the end seemed a bit jilted. Riley asking Desi to forgive her but Desi replied with yeah we are cool (still no apology ofc) I feel like something happened during that which ended up getting cut out so it could fit with the final story.]
This makes me think that they have rewritten a few bits to tie into the new finale episode. In 5x03 when Mac asked Desi to come fishing with him which was clearly something very personal to him she was like no do better.. then we see Mac's disappointed expression. She could have easily said okay but maybe not for our first date? Or its not really my thing? Or just about anything else rather than laughing in his face like that. Eventhough MD is together they still arent compatible. Mac’s final words in 5x03 was him being desperate. I truly think he is so broken and lost that Desi is the only safe thing left, the only thing he feels like he can fix right now. Once he finds himself again and heals...then it's going to hit him like a pile of bricks!!
4. But Riley doesn't have feelings anymore...WELL doesnt she?
When it comes to Mac, Riley is always in denial. We saw it in s4 when she tells Bozer not to make her say it. I think s5 will show her finally accepting it. Finally accepting that she is in love with her best friend and that it definitely isnt Codex adrenaline because she caught the feels when Codex wasnt even around. While Mac's arc would include realising he and Desi are never going to work and that he is unhappy and that RILEY is the one for him.
[why else would they give Riley feelings for Mac? Something has to come of it.]
5. The slow burn rule.[this point is a lil complicated]
Tumblr media
Now season 5 is rumoured to have 13 episodes. So here’s what I think: If MacGyver follows the pattern that most shows do when it comes to slow burns, then technically MacRIley should have happened at the end of season 4. But since the season got cut short and they didnt get to air/finish their final episode the writers had to improvise.
From what I know, 4x19 which is 5x04 for us is the episode where Mac meets Desi’s parents and 4x20 was supposed to be the finale that was left unfinished.(they are definitely moving the timeline ahead if a pre finale episode is suddenly a mid season one.) There might have been a 4x21 or 4x22 but I haven't heard anything about those....EVER.
So what I think they have decided to do instead is extend the MD storyline a bit longer just so they dont end up scrapping all their s4 episodes where they would be together and write a new finale that ties everything together, aka MacRiley.
If you think about episode counts, s4 and s5 together would have 26 episodes which is a how long a normal season runs. Basically what im trying to say is if we follow the ‘slow burns end by s4’ and take season 5 as an extension of 4 then MacRiley should get together in the season 5 finale or maybe the episode just before. (IM REALLY TRYING TO GET SOME LOGIC INTO THIS)
This would be a typical TV thing too where the couple finds out about each other’s feelings while the main arc of the show is also at its peak, which perfectly sets up a future season where fans are hyped but still has a satisfying ending.
6. So what about MacDesi?
Tumblr media
So far the macgyver writers have given us characters we love. Think of every character on the show apart from maybe Desi... Mac, Riley, Bozer, Jack, Matty, Leanna, Samantha, Russ and even Murdoc. WE LOVE EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. So then why is Desi such a strange character? I think shes purposely been written as an opposite to Mac or even Riley (I get she’s supposed to kinda replace Jack but Jack is really irreplaceable).
It's not necessarily a bad thing its just not a great thing to do or have great execution. People have said things like Desi is a badass and shouldnt have to apologise or say I love you back to her boyfriend because she is a strong woman...I'm sorry but your opinion of who a strong woman is, is EXTREMELY skewed. A strong woman is someone who can make mistakes and when she does, she is ‘strong’ enough to own up to it, she is loyal and fierce and also caring while being a badass who can take down bad guys. And for GODS SAKE, RILEY DAVIS IS A STRONG WOMAN...people have called her mushy and feminine on twitter and I'm just very confused by that.....
Anyways before I go off on a rant, it seems like Desi is intentionally being written this way. Every opportunity they get to redeem her and make her more relatable or just a better person they just dont take it. While Rileys character arc is one of the best I've ever seen. Either its intentional or they’ve forgotten how to write characters...which is worrisome but ill give them the benefit of the doubt.
The writers also know we dont like Desi. The amount of times we've tagged them in the toxic posts or pointed out problematic things we can be sure they've seen at least half of those. So theres no way they dont know. RIGHT?
So why then is MD still a thing you may ask??
Well for one they cant break them up again off screen because of those unreleased s4 episodes. (not to mention the other parts of the audience who arent as invested in mac’s love life would probably be very confused.)
Secondly Mac has to be the one to pull the plug, not Desi. 4x13 made it seem like Desi was the annoyed one not Mac. He apologised to her which meant he wanted to fix things.
Thirdly, they are opening the chpt one last time before they permanently close it. MD is going to be a stark contrast to macriley(it already is in every way possible). Every issue Mac and Desi had can be used to show how amazing macriley really is as two people who arent even dating yet.
Tumblr media
Fourthly, MD being together is a sort of commentary on Macs mental health as well. We can see how happy he is with Riley but around Desi he becomes some one else. If the writers are doing this on purpose or subconsciously still remains to be seen.
And Yes keeping MD around for a few more episodes seems like a necessary risk right now but I have a feeling its going to be worth it later.
[I know we have had like 4 desi entered episodes already but I really think 5x04 will be the last of it since 5x05 is the Jack episode and 5x06 is Mac+Riley+Bozer episode with no mention of Desi at all!]
Tumblr media
The writers know we are a dedicated bunch and they know that once MD breaks up for the last time the entire fandom will be waiting and watching. That's when the show will be at its peak. That will be the perfect moment to bring in MacRiley’s arc to a new start!
Congrats if you stuck with me through this whole thing! if you agree/disgaree with any of these or have other reasons why they could be endgame in s5 let me know!!

MacGyver (2016) :)
First off, thanks for the ask! Secondly, sorry it took so long to answer! Christmastime is always very busy for me!
So I should probably preface this with the fact that when I first started watching the MacGyver reboot, I went into it expecting to -- and wanting to -- hate it. I'd fallen in love with the original and was hella mad that there were so many differences between the show I loved and this newfangled re-imagining of it. Boy, did my tune change! It's now one of my greatest fandom loves. So yeah. :)
The first character I first fell in love with: It has to be either Mac or Jack. Honestly, for the first few seasons especially, there really is no Mac without Jack, so they're kind of a package deal. I fell in love with Mac because he's genuinely kind, sassy, funny, and has so much angst and so many daddy issues that he doesn't know how to explore because he doesn't know what an emotion is, and he's so much fun to whump. Plus, have you seen Lucas Till? What a cutie lol!
I fell in love with Jack because he's earnest, unafraid of his emotions, an amazing father figure to both Mac and Riley, quirky, funny, and so very caring. His and Mac's relationship is my lifeblood when I'm watching the first two seasons especially.
The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Well, I mean, given what I said at the beginning about going into the show wanting to hate it, I guess everyone would be an appropriate answer haha. But more specifically, I would say Riley. Don't get me wrong, I liked her pretty much from the beginning, but if you told me when I first started watching the show that she'd be one of my favorite characters, I might not have believed you. She's incredible - smart, witty, able to hold her own, strong, capable, relatable, and her relationship with Jack might just be my favorite in the show. The way they care about each other just... UUUGGGHH!
Also, Murdoc. I loved Murdoc in the original show, but when he first showed up in the reboot, I thought he was going to be the standard "creepy serial killer" type. And while he was that for a bit, he blossomed into the lovable psycho we all know and love to hate today. He's a genuinely funny character, while still remaining a real threat and being legitimately scary at times. He's brilliantly written and acted, and I do believe Dalmastian's performance does Des Barnes's original Murdoc proud.
The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Leanna. Sorry, she just irritates me. By the time she was added to the show, I was getting a little dizzy from all the team changes anyway, and I was really wanting some OG Mac team action. Plus, the lengths she went to to get to Bozer in their final exam are just too far for me. Other than that, she's just kind of bland. I can't exactly put my finger on why, but she bores me. Maybe I feel like she's there as a tool to motivate Bozer or to inspire him or to give him more relationships, but that she's just not fully developed in her own right, which is a disservice to the viewer and to her. Either way, I know a lot of people really like her, but I just don't see it. Plus (spoiler alert), she gets fridged, which means she definitely becomes a tool rather than a person, used to impact Bozer's life and his relationship with Russ, but nothing more.
The character I love that everyone else hates: I don't know how many people actually hate him, but I've definitely seen a lot of negative discourse about him on Twitter. I love Russ Taylor. Yeah, he's made some really, really crappy decisions, but that's what makes him such a great character in my book. I often love a character with complicated morals and who camps out in gray areas more frequently than not but who is trying to do the right thing and slowly learns to be a better person. I love the complicated relationship he has with the rest of the team and the way he and Mac often butt heads but ultimately learn to respect each other in the end. He's a fascinating character, and I really wish we could have seen more of him.
The character I used to love but don’t any longer: I really did like Desi at the beginning. Of course, I was wary of her because she was "replacing" Jack, but the moment she clarified that she doesn't like using guns unless an animal had been hurt, I was on board. But as soon as they started to push the Mac/Desi pairing and especially once the love triangle with Riley started, her character became so intertwined with her relationship status that she ceased to become a full, strong character. She was also much more unlikable in general - moody, rude, grumpy, and in later seasons very judgmental, manipulative, and even at times physical in her anger with Mac. That's not to say that he was perfect in their relationship, far from it, but her character became so poorly written once the love triangle started. I adore Levy Tran, though, and just think the writing and direction was sour in this case. There were still moments that the real Desi would peek through later on, but they were few and far between, and definitely not enough to make me like her the way I once did.
The character I would totally smooch: Okay, let me clarify that I am a very happy married woman, but for the sake of this question, I mean, does it really even need to be asked? It would definitely be Mac haha! Sorry, Riles! :)
The character I’d want to be like: Definitely Riley. She's just amazing. She's one of the most realistic and relatable characters on the show, so smart, funny, and a fierce friend. See all my points about why she's so awesome above. :)
The character I’d slap: Nikki, honestly. I love the first season, but I do not care for her story arc at all. And I really can't stand her, even after we learn the truth about her. I also wouldn't mind giving Russ a hearty slap now and again, either, when he deserves it haha!
A pairing that I love: MacRiley, of course, which is kind of crazy, because for the longest time I saw them more as siblings, but the writers, though they dropped the ball in some areas, really did so well in building up this ship believably. The stolen glances - even dating back to early seasons, I'm now noticing! - the selflessness, the true friendship, the crackling chemistry. They're perfect together, and I hope the show gets picked up for a sixth season so we can see them together at last. We deserve that much.
A pairing that I despise: For all the reasons listed above, MacDesi. That relationship is toxic AF. They were much, much better as friends and I will die on this hill.
Thanks again for the ask! I had a blast with this! :)

Reaction to ‘MacGyver’ 5.10
Tumblr media
MacGyver season 5 has been a freakin’ emotional and high-octane rollercoaster.  I’m always out of breath after watching an episode because they pack in so much drama, heart and action and FUN into 42 minutes.  This episode was no different.  Here are some highlights from this amazing episode.
MacGyver getting lightly hit by a car.  Nothing he can’t literally run off.
Desi looking incredibly gorgeous in his episode with her new bangs and a flawless beat.  Riley’s hair was laid and her baby hair were adorable.  These women are queens.
Riley and Desi literally being Mac’s protectors.  It’s never lost on me how the women are the badass and brains of the operation.  More shows need to follow in their footsteps.
Riley, Mac and Desi focusing on the mission and not squabbling about emotions and feelings even after the danger was over.  They all handled it like adults and covert agents.  For the record, I have no dog in this Team Desi or Team Mac fight.  Murdoc in my comms, I’d have to choose Riley though.
It’s a testament to how evil Murdoc is that he basically resorted to acting like a Real Housewive dropping secrets at a dinner party.  With a bit of terrorism on the side.
Any man can go to Jared but can he make your diamond in his kitchen?  NOPE.
LeeAnn is dead?!  Bozer’s reaction to find this out was heartbreaking and a bit of a great acting from Justin, but I need them to stop killing people off. Though I refuse to believe that Jack is dead.
Murdoc and Andrews team up was unexpected.
DESI IS SO BADASS!  I wish she would have shot them both and I also wish Murdoc would have escaped to wreak havoc another day.
I’m really, really upset that this episode didn’t end with Mac in a hospital.  They got the hurt down but now we need the comfort, please!
I really loved this episode.  I love even more that the Codex is GONE.
