Eddie just started a live-stream so like, twelve people are watching when Steve sticks his head into the room like, “Hey, Robin and I are going to the mall. Wanna come?”
Eddie: Can’t, I got a thing
Steve: You want anything? We’re going to the bookstore because Robin says I have to ‘buy her a new book.’ *rolls eyes*
Eddie: Uh, yeah, Steve. You destroyed the book she let you borrow
Steve: It’s still in one piece!
Eddie: Baby, you did not so much as crack the spine of the book as much as you shattered it like you were Bane and it was Batman
Steve: I don’t know what that means, Eddie.
Eddie: In the comics, Bane-
Steve: I cannot handle a nerd-planation right now. I’m buying you a notebook with a mom quote on it and some stickers, okay?
Eddie: Okay.
Also Eddie: *a couple weeks later, photographed by paparazzi walking out of a studio with a ‘Live, Laugh, Read Books notebook*

Redoing this poll with more options based on the tags
Had a lot of people talking about donating their books in the tags of the previous version of this post, and I cannot go back and edit it, so I’m dropping a new poll

this has been a big point for me since i read the series and i read it like 2 years ago so i dont remember a lot but i DO remember fully believing in alina/darkling and this was a point i argued to my best friend for like forever:
instead of blocking off the SEA and FUCKING OVER your imports, why dont you MOVE THE FOLD to become a barrier between the two neighboring countries bc then there is only the ocean entrance and its kind of hard to miss a BIG ASS BOAT

The only thing I better see next week is Isaac attempting increasingly sillier and more outlandish ways to let Colin know he supports and loves his best friend only for them to fail in the most lighthearted and slapstick of ways

Since the 2023 Book List was helpful for working through some books this year, I think I'd like to give it a shot again next year. I've got about a dozen books on the list so far, mostly rereads and some Reader's Choice options to clear out things from my shelves and I'd like to have fifteen total again. Would anyone like to throw out some book suggestions for consideration, please? Thank you! :)

Some books I’m excited to read this year:
The Poppy War, RF Kuang (absolutely loved Babel, and have had this on my tbr for years)
The Illiad and the Odyssey - probably Emily Wilson’s translation. I’m at the stage where I have learnt as much as I can about Greek mythology without reading the classics, and I’m so excited to actually delve into them
The Atlas Six trilogy, Olivie Blake. Read the first one aaaaaages ago and devoured it in practically one sitting, even more excited for the whole thing
Maybe something by Cicero - or a commentary on it. Studied him a lot in Latin classes way back and have always found his work and rhetoric fascinating.
The Lotus Empire, Tasha Suri. Some people might recall I wrote a looong review singing the praises of the Jasmine Throne, and book 2 was even better, so my hopes are high for book 3. Such fast paced writing that has you hooked, and a romance that absolutely got my flustered. And some parallels with the “purity” of women as seen in our world which oooooofff. Just go read it.
Something on linguistics- which I realise is incredibly vague but I think it’s one where I’m going to have to go to the library and see what they have there. I’d love a deep dive into Creoles. But simply an introduction to the wider field would scratch the itch in my brain
Stormlight Archive 5 - the last one of this arc - is released in December. So I’ll be enjoying a reread of the entire series (which is a lot of pages) which will be good. I honestly think that the first reread is just as enjoyable as reading something for the first time, as you can pick up so much more!
Balancing the fantasy I know I love with some more exploration- plus I know that as soon as I’m back in the library I’ll be picking up non fiction books on a eclectic mix of topics (sighs dramatically as I think about her. The library).

i need to get myself out of the mindset that money spent on books doesn't count if the books are in irish
that's not how it works

as someone who has been a die-hard, non stop fan of the grishaverse for eight years (eight!!), who has every book released including collector’s editions about this series (lives of saints, demon in the wood, language of thorns,) you name it, i am begging you all to sign the petition -
link
- to express interest in a continuation of the series, and share it with EVERYONE you know. with enough signatures, another platform might pick up the show, (tweet or dm am*zon prime video about this if you can,) or netflix might change their mind.
please remember to stop spreading criticism about the show’s writing in this rocky time, streaming platforms everywhere are scanning the internet to see if shadow and bone might still be profitable and we need to FIRMLY state that we LOVED it, and we WILL watch more seasons NO MATTER WHAT!!
the fandom continually criticizing the plotline of the show is definitely one of the reasons the show was cancelled. the other is probably that eric heisserer was involved in negotiations for sag-aftra and netflix wanted to hit him where it hurts. so spread the petition, blow up social media, don’t shut up about it!

Speaking of books and copyright, nothing is weirder to me that the simultanous discourse that piracy is killing the publishing industry, but also that people that buy several editions of the same book are also, somehow, killing the publishing industry? Like how can you be against people pirating because it means "less sales" but at the same time be against people buying those sprayed edges editions or whatever because it's "overconsumerism"? Didn't you want more sales???? Didn't you want the authors to get more money for their work????
