such passion, such drama. where do i even begin? the spirit of our beloved girlboss lives strong in this one. i picked the second suite instead of the first one on purpose because it is where the famous 'habanera' is located ofc

October 25.1838 the great French Composer (1838-1875) Georges Bizet was born in Paris.
His greatest success was the opera „Carmen“ first performed three months before his death. Take a look on his biography. Here we see a old postcard and a portrait.

Carmen (Bizet’s Carmen)
Bio: Seduces a soldier away from his post and into a smuggling ring, then throws him away for a bullfighter, to tragic results.
Fans say:
You've heard her aria. Trust me, you have.
One of the most iconic seductresses of the stage with a tragic fate
Mod says: If you don't know the aria (or don't THINK you do) at least listen to the opening bars.

Mirage (The Incredibles)
Bio: Tricks heroes into attempting to fight her boss’s machines in order to kill them, but turns on him when he endangers her life and children’s lives.
Fans say: Seductive, but with a good heart in the end. "Valuing life is not weakness and disregarding it is not strength."

- Camille Saint-Saëns on Georges Bizet

Bizet: "L'Arlésienne" - Farandole
youtube
Bizet was a precocious genius who could be compared to Mozart. Like Mozart, he died in his 30s. He was good at composing based on folk music, and this song is no exception, skillfully incorporating folk songs from the Arles region. The song's melodies can be described as linear, evoking the sexual end of men. That's interesting.

Bizet: "L'Arlésienne" - Farandole

Lincolnshire Posy (Percy Grainger):
1 Submission
Last win - Der Rosenkavalier Suite (Strauss)
Straight off the bat Grainger Lincolnshire posy!!! Grainger Lincolnshire posy!!!!!!!!! WHAT a masterpiece for wind orchestra and a triumph of the folk song revival, seeing these traditional melodies be set to full orchestration and dense harmony. Every single movement is AMAZING, from the jaunty swing of Lisbon/Dublin bay to the beauty of horkstow Grange to the fucked up 2 different versions of ufford park poachers to the jollity of brisk young sailor to the grandiosity and time signatures of Lord Melbourne to the absolute BANGER that is lost lady found, every movement represents a substantial victory for the wind orchestra and the saxophone as musical institutions
LINCOLNSHIRE POSY PIECE OF ALL TIME VOTE LINCOLNSHIE POSY genuinely i believe this represents some of the best writing for wind orchestra of all time - Grainger has SUCH an intimate understanding of the wind/military band and that is so evident in the writing here. FURTHERMORE, this piece is an ideoloical culmination of the second British folk revival, using the tunes traditionally looked down upon and turning them into something beautiful and powerful. GOD i love this piece I think it is ultimately Grainger's best work and possibly one of the best works by any Australian composer ever
