When he finally got his hands on the instrument, he got busy in the studio with Styles. He described the session as a learning experience.
“I got there, and he said, ‘Let’s eat.’ We ordered food, we sat, we talked, we laughed. The entryway to a good session is through the stomach. If you stop, you break bread, you get to understand where the other person is, where they’re coming from, where they’re going. That kind of set the stage. And then we went in and spent the day recording,” uttered Harper. “When I watched Harry track his vocals, it was a singing lesson in its own way.”
Harry’s the best. He’s a king. And a dear friend. He’s very generous, I’d walk into my dressing room and there would be flowers or a gift of some sort. Just a lovely, lovely person.
benharper This video is from the recording session for the song “Boyfriends.” The guitar is a late 1950’s Martin 00-18 I got from my grandparents. I wrote and recorded my first few albums on this guitar and it now belongs to my daughter Harris who was kind enough to loan it back to me for the session. Working in the studio with Harry, Tom/@kidharpoon, Tyler Johnson @mitchrowland and @jeremyhatcher was one of the best times I have ever had recording music, and it’s an honor to be on this extraordinary album, #Harryshouse
"I figured one day I'd just wake up and and find out what the hell yesterday was all about. I'm not too keen on thinkin' about tommorow. And today's slipping by."
“before we go any further, please make some noise for the incredible birthday boy, Mr Ben Harper who opened the show tonight! I would love to tell you that i haven’t had dreams of him singing Sexual Healing AT me but I was not raised to be a liar so I will not tell you that”
“I’ve heard people singing songs. His fans are incredible, and they gave me a chance on opening night. They gave it a shot, and I just can’t thank his fans enough for actually letting me through the door. I felt welcome there.”
