"New" here means 2019, btw: this is from a mail about some vintage New Yorker articles.
...Now wondering what Wizard's Holiday would look like re-covered as a "beach read." :)

Summer theme + Prompt: “i really, really need this summer job, so please stop distracting me with your wiles/good looks. you’re going to get me fired”
part one
Lily Evans woke up thinking about Passionfruit Martinis and bright yellow beach towels.
Her new summer job had officially invaded her dreams, which shouldn’t surprise her seeing as she spends every spare hour at the Beach Hotel. If she’s not mixing drinks for the posh toffs at the pool bar, she’s taking advantage of the nearby beach. She had also taken to chatting daily with the owner of the hotel, Mia Potter. The pair of them are always found giggling over freshly brewed coffee by Mia at the Pool Bar. Lily found Mia thoroughly entertaining, always keeping Lily up to date with the going ons in the hotel, the gossip, the news, even going as far as using Lily’s newly obtained Marketing degree by looking over the hotel’s marketing plan one afternoon.

"The voice of the sea is seductive; never ceasing, whispering, clamoring, murmuring, inviting the soul to wander for a spell in abysses of solitude; to lose itself in mazes of inward contemplation. The voice of the sea speaks to the soul."

Readers Row at Stone Harbor
Sally and her family spend the month of July sitting on the beach in Stone Harbor, New Jersey reading. We had to ask what books they were reading because we only recognized Spare by Prince Harry! The other books include: Maze by Nelson DeMille, Did You Hear About Kitty Karr? by Crystal Smith Paul, and August Blue by Deborah Levy.

Went on a camping trip this weekend and got a ton of reading done! I loved this book, a creepy gothic horror with a modern twist and wonderfully messed up characters.

Everyone thinks cold rainy weather is the best weather for reading. No. One hundred four degrees Fahrenheit and humid is the best weather for reading. I've finished 3.5 books in the last week. The sunlight is not for going outside it's for reading murder mysteries and Jane Austen by.

Summer theme + Prompt: “i really, really need this summer job, so please stop distracting me with your wiles/good looks. you’re going to get me fired”
part two
“Do you really have a T-birds jacket back home? And also, where is back home? I thought you lived here?”
She’s rambling. She’s nervous, and talking too much but that doesn’t stop James from smiling sincerely, a hint of embarrassment painting the tops of his cheeks and responding in kind, “Yes, I do, courtesy of a halloween outfit and back home is London. We grew up in London, but had our summer's here.”
“Oh, well that makes sense I suppose.” She mumbles, a rush of cringe-worthy embarrassment flooding her stomach.
“You go to Uni, right? Which one?” James asks, as he pays for their tickets through his window. They’re in James' car, an old black Audi that has worn leather seats and smells like vanilla.
“Bath, I start my final year soon.”
His eyebrows raise, impressed, “What course are you studying?”
“Management with Marketing.” She gives him a soft smile.
“Fancy,” He grins, “I just finished my honours degree in architecture.” He says proudly, a dimple showing up in his left cheek. She likes how proud he is, he says it not in any sort of arrogant way but in a way that shows that he loves his degree.
“So now you're an architect?” Lily asks, rather impressed.
“Yep. I start my new job in a few weeks.”
“In London?”
“Nope. Here.” He turns to face her, smiling, before manoeuvring the car into an empty space beside Remus and Sirius.
“In Newquay?”
He nods, but doesn’t explain any further. Instead he unclips his seatbelt and leans forward over the console, she falters slightly, unsure what to do with him so close. Her eyes are glued to his. Are they brown or green? Her eyes find their way to his lips, perfectly shaped, perfectly sized.

I took myself on a date.
For a long time, I begged for attention. The kind of attention I’ve now realized I can give to myself. I tried so hard for the people around me. I learned what they liked and what they didn’t. I put thought into everything I did for them. I was always shown I wasn’t worth the same effort. I decided that I need to date myself because I deserve to be loved the way I love others.
I’ve been told that dates cost money, or “I don’t know how to plan a date.” It felt like excuses. Out of curiosity I searched “cheap date ideas” and the first thing on nearly every list that popped up was a picnic.
This beach picnic breakfast date cost me $10 and about 3 hours of my time. I packed food from my cupboard, bought some fancy cheese and a new blanket from the thrift store, grabbed a book, and sped off to the beach. If someone repeatedly shows you that you’re not worth the effort of a five second internet search, they probably just don’t want to date you.
But you can always do these things for yourself.

The Misery Part 3
It's so tiring to be unhappy. Moving would help. The energy would shift. But you can’t. The thoughts are too heavy, weighing you down. Your heart hurts. Your head is so dense with your memories, re-enactions, miseries, your regrets and your desires.
You seem to be trapped between two conversations. One says all experiences are lessons that somewhere along the line you agreed to have. The other says, you were wronged and were also possibly wrong.
But whatever you think it doesn’t matter, because there is no one to listen. It’s just you, in your own head. It's just you going over and over, examining and re examining. No one is there to listen. No-one wants to hear you. You could scream so loudly but no-one wants to hear. It's just an echo chamber.
Ironic that all you’ve ever wanted is to be truly heard and truly seen. But every time, in the end it's just you again. Just you. Listening to yourself
