"It amazes most Israelis - as it amazes me - that Britain has seen some of the worse scenes of all the anti-Israel marches across the world. The first protests in London happened before Israel had even begun its military response to Oct. 7. Rallies were held within hours of the massacres. What other country, having suffered a set of atrocities hardly superseded in the whole history of violence, wouldn't get even one day of sympathy? Only the Jewish state. And everybody in Israel knows as much.
Pakistan is currently in the process of forcibly deporting two million Afghans. Nobody cares. Bashar al-Assad is in his twelfth year of killing Muslims in Syria and the world's cameras turned away long ago."

There is nothing more deceitful than for the U.S. media and ruling-class warmakers to blame the Syrian government and President Assad for conditions that they themselves have created. U.S. sanctions and ongoing direct military intervention continue to crush the Syrian economy, creating deep hardship for its people.

OKAY I'M REALLY GLAD I UNCENSORED YOUR PINNED POST because I had to block the tags relating to the IP conflict and your bio made me go hmmmmm lmao thanks for being a pleasant surprise on this fine Tuesday morning <3
Glad to help! It drives me crazy how disconnected from history the Free Palestine movement is. (And mean, I obviously don’t like the part where they support Assad and generally want Jews dead either)
I would absolutely love to see a political and social movement aimed at forcing Syria to grant citizenship to descendants of the non Jewish population of Palestine in 1919. (Instead they force them to live in refugee camps and deny that they are in one people)
But Syria’s a hot mess :/
I would also like to see some sort of recognition that “Arab” is a politically charged label. How can the Palestine ever be free if we continue to insist it is Arab?! Many people that identify as Palestinian are of Assyrian origin, and just because they have been assimilated into Arab culture doesn’t mean they have the right to deny the legitimacy of Assyrian culture, or the identity of those who still hold on to their roots.

gee i wonder why all the infrastructure in northern syria is completely dilapidated and why all the refugees in these areas have never seen a single dime or cent of the millions sent to them by diplomactic means, while assad's bank accounts rose by the same amount? i wonder why none of these refugees can escape syria? i wonder why truckloads of aid aren't allowed to pass the border to help those in those regions, unless assad allows them to, which he wont? i wonder why there is a war in the first place?
see what i mean? these people might criticize the west but they are all pro-assad

BEIJING (AP) — China and Syria announced the formation of a strategic partnership on Friday as Chinese leader Xi Jinping kicked off a series of diplomatic meetings ahead of the upcoming Asian Games.
Xi met Syrian President Bashar Assad in the southern Chinese city of Hangzhou, which is hosting the 15-day sports competition.
“In the face of the unstable and uncertain international situation, China is willing to work with Syria to firmly support each other ... and jointly safeguard international fairness and justice,” Xi said in a video clip posted online by state broadcaster CCTV.
Assad’s visit parallels in some ways that of Russian President Vladimir Putin last year for the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics. Both leaders are virtual pariahs in the West but welcomed by China as it tries to expand its global influence and promote an alternative to the U.S.-led international order.
The Syrian leader will attend the Asian Games opening ceremony on Saturday night along with the king of Cambodia, the crown prince of Kuwait and the prime ministers of Nepal, East Timor and South Korea, China’s Foreign Ministry has said.
Xi also met Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah on Friday and said he would work with him to take bilateral relations to a new level, CCTV reported.
Both meetings took place at a state guest house at West Lake, a scenic tourist destination in Hangzhou that has inspired Chinese painters for centuries.
Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni arrived Friday at the airport in Hangzhou. CCTV video posted online showed him walking down the stairs from his plane to the tarmac for a red carpet welcome that included the Asian Games mascots.
Assad, who is making a rare trip abroad, is looking for ways to emerge from the international isolation brought on by a brutal war at home that shows no sign of ending after 12 years. He was expected to discuss economic assistance from China, which could play a major role in Syria’s future reconstruction.
Syrian state TV quoted Assad as thanking Xi and his government for standing on the side of the Syrian people “during the crisis and suffering.” China has backed Assad, using its veto on the U.N. Security Council eight times to block resolutions against his government.
Xi told Assad that China supports Syria in opposing external interference and unilateral bullying and promoting a political solution that is led and owned by Syrians, China’s CCTV said.
Assad expressed hope that the meeting would be the basis for “wide-ranging and long-term strategic cooperation in all fields” between China and Syria.
The Asian Games, which have more participants than the Olympics, also sparked a diplomatic row between India and China. Three Indian athletes from Arunachal Pradesh, which China claims as its territory, refused to accept their visas and stayed home after they were given visas stapled to their passports — different from those given to the rest of the team.
The Asian Games were scheduled for last year but postponed because of China’s then-strict pandemic restrictions. China eased its restrictions in December of last year.

France: A Partner In Terrorism

Lafarge Admits Funding ISIS In Syria
French company admits it gave financial support to ISIS, agrees to pay over $700 million in fines.
Washington — French cement company Lafarge has pleaded guilty to one count of providing material support to foreign terrorist organizations, admitting in court papers on Tuesday that it paid individuals designated by the U.S. as terrorists in Syria to secure the continued operation and protection of a cement plant from 2013 to 2014.
The company has agreed to pay $778 million in fines and forfeiture as part of the plea deal.
Beginning in 2010, Lafarge operated the Jalabiyeh Cement Plant in the Jalabiyeh region of Northern Syria. According to the statement of offense, the company admitted that after civil war broke out in the country in 2011, executives and intermediaries devised a scheme to pay members of the the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) and al-Nusrah Front (ANF) to secure the safe operation of the plant and generate profit.
The payments took many forms, the Justice Department said, including "a revenue-sharing agreement" between ISIS and the company that Lafarge executives likened to paying  "taxes" to ISIS. The more cement the plant sold to its customers, the more money Lafarge would pay ISIS.
The payments enabled Lafarge's Syrian subsidiary to get its employees and suppliers through ISIS and ANF checkpoints on the roads to the plant and block competitors from Turkey.
These funds — which secured both raw materials for production and protection for employees — violated federal law, the Justice Department said, and Lafarge was aware of their illegality. Their actions enabled the company to bring in approximately $70.3 million in revenue.
"In its pursuit of profits, Lafarge and its top executives not only broke the law — they helped finance a violent reign of terror that ISIS and al-Nusrah imposed on the people of Syria," Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco said Tuesday when the plea agreement was announced, "We expect far more from companies, particularly those that operate in high-risk environments.
Monaco added that, as public reports indicate, French authorities have already arrested executives implicated in the scheme.
"Lafarge and its leadership had every reason to know exactly with whom they were dealing — and they didn't flinch. Instead, Lafarge forged ahead, working with ISIS to keep operations open, undercut competitors, and maximize revenue. And all the while, through their support and funding, Lafarge enabled the operations of a brutal terrorist organization," Monaco said.
Court documents also detailed numerous communications between Lafarge executives and unnamed intermediaries who acted as middlemen between the French company and the terrorists. The company admitted to paying these individuals $1,113,324 for their cooperation and covert assistance.
On August 20, 2013, a company executives wrote in an email, "It is clear that we have an issue with ISIS and Al Nusra and we have asked our partner [Intermediary 1] to work on it," according to court documents. And in another email described in the plea papers, an intermediary wrote to a Lafarge executive that he "officially" represented ISIS "for investments."
"The defendants negotiated and made unlawful payments at a time when these groups were gaining territory and brutalizing innocent civilians in Syria and elsewhere and were actively plotting against Americans," said Matt Olsen, head of the Justice Department's National Security Division, "There is no justification – none – for a multi-national corporation authorizing payments to a designated terrorist group."
Lafarge's actions at issue were the subject of an independent review within the company that yielded a report and corrective measures.
According to the Holcim Group, the Swiss multinational company that acquired Lafarge in July 2015 , "None of the conduct involved Lafarge operations or employees in the United States and none of the executives who were involved in the conduct are with Lafarge or any affiliated entities today," noting none of the employees targeted in the federal probe were found to have shared any of terrorist organizations' ideologies.
In a written statement following Tuesday's resolution, Lafarge said, "[We] have accepted responsibility for the actions of the individual executives involved, whose behavior was in flagrant violation of Lafarge's Code of Conduct. We deeply regret that this conduct occurred and have worked with the U.S. Department of Justice to resolve this matter."

i just need to say this and get it off my chest
the pro-assad arabs/syrians get much more popularity and influence than anyone else in this space. they are always so obviously right-wing when you actually sit down and look at their work/ideology for more than a few minutes, but because they also criticize western imperialism and call out organizations like the UN etc for propping imperialism up, leftists follow and listen to them more than they do to arab leftists or at least syrians actually on the ground living there, despite us saying the exact same thing. but for some reason, we are the ones who get shunned by people who are supposed to be our own allies, and in turn what happens is they prop up the dictator bashar al assad as some warrior against this western imperialism. it seems western leftists do not understand the concept that you can oppose BOTH your own leader for being a dictator and also western imperialism.
over the past few days, i have seen people boost very obvious right wing influencers in this sphere, but because they are also critical of the west they get listened to, except instead of helping anyone on the ground in syria all they end up doing is muddling any aid these people can get. and this is nothing new, because they have been doing this for over a decade now.
it's extremely infuriating, because they have been using the messiness of the syrian war and where all the money goes and comes from to paint anyone other than assad as terrorists/funded by the West. no one seems to want to acknowledge the west funds both pro and anti whatever leader at the time is because they want ultimate confusion, as that is a tactic authoritarians use.
and the entire time what happens while people argue over the politics? syrians on the ground die and have no resources because the assad regime, with the assistance of russia's veto powers, have completely cut off any international aid to get to them. all those millions and millions of money and resources sent by well-meaning diplomacy only ends up lining the pockets of Assad and his men, while the screaming under the rubble grows silent.
