January 21, 2019 marks the creation plebiscite for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao. The only autonomous region in the Republic of the Philippines, this came after decades of violence from militant Bangsamoro groups in response to waves of dispossession, massacres, discrimination, and other ill treatment at the hands of the Philippine state throughout the 20th century.

The centuries-old Islamic terrorism in Filipinas
ISIS fighters in a recruiting video clip targeting the Philippines (📷 Asia Times). Terrorism has become a global byword since the September 11 attacks which happened exactly 22 years ago today. But our archipelago has been experiencing it way before the Spanish advent. This terrorism we speak of were the Moro raids and kidnappings of Visayan and Lúmad peoples. Occasionally, it also stretched…

Philippines cyclone killed 43, 7 still missing
Tumblr media
Manila (Times Of Ocean)- The death toll from Cyclone Agathon in the Philippines has climbed to 43, and seven people remain missing, the government said Wednesday.
Philippines’ National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council told the daily Phil Star that most of the deaths occurred in the Visayas and Davao regions as a result of the tropical depression known internationally as Megi.
Rain, floods, and landslides were caused by the cyclone, which affected people who were evacuated to safer places, and damaged infrastructure on a large scale.
At least eight people were injured during the cyclone.
A total of 16,800 metric tons of agricultural products have also been affected.
Earlier in the day, the cyclone’s bad weather caused flooding in many parts of the country, including in the Bicol and autonomous Bangsamoro regions of Muslim Mindanao.
Police and rescue teams have been deployed to flood-hit areas.
The floods affected more than 95,700 families, displacing thousands of people.

The Philippine government is ready to use “authority and forces” against attempts to divide the nation, a security official has said, after former president Rodrigo Duterte threatened to separate some southern islands from the rest of the archipelago.
Duterte has called for the independence of his home town, Mindanao, from the Philippines as his alliance with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr disintegrated this week over disagreements around efforts to amend the constitution.
Marcos said amending the 1987 constitution was meant to ease foreign investments, but Duterte accused him of using constitutional change to stay in power.[...]
Violence and conflict had plagued Mindanao for decades as the government battled insurgents and extremists, which has discouraged investments and left many villages in poverty.
The region’s largest rebel group, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), had signed a peace agreement with the Philippine government in 2014, withdrawing their fight for independence in exchange for enhanced autonomy in a Muslim region called the Bangsamoro.
Bangsamoro’s chief minister, Ahod Ebrahim, said in a statement on Friday that he remained committed to the peace agreement.

Emilio: "Is England a part of MILF????" :O
  Mindanao: "Obviously not, kuya." :I
OK SO IN THE PHILIPPINES, these terms mean the following:
  *MILF:
The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF; Arabic: جبهة تحرير مورو الإسلامية‎ Jabhat Taḥrīr Moro al-ʾIslāmiyyah) is a group based in Mindanao, Philippines seeking an autonomous region of the Moro people from the central government. The group has a presence in the Bangsamoro region of Mindanao, the Sulu Archipelago, Palawan, Basilan, and other neighboring islands.
*MNLF:
The Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF; Arabic: الجبهة الوطنية لتحرير مورو) is a political organization in the Philippines that was founded in 1972. It started as a splinter group of the Muslim Independence Movement.  The MNLF was the leading organization among Moro separatists for about two decades beginning from the 1970s. In 1996, the MNLF signed a landmark peace agreement with the Philippine government that saw the creation of Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), an area composed of two mainland provinces and three island provinces in which the predominantly Muslim population enjoys a degree of self-rule.

Typhoon Paeng
Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (Nalgae), the Philippines’ 16th tropical cyclone for 2022, unleashed torrential rain that triggered floods and landslides in parts of Mindanao, the Visayas, and Luzon. It struck just as the country was heading into a long weekend to mark All Saints’ Day and All Soul's Day.
Paeng’s five landfalls were all in Luzon, but initial reports show Mindanao suffered the most deaths, particularly the newly created province of Maguindanao del Norte.
Following the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Paeng, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. declared a state of calamity for six months in the Calabarzon region (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon), the Bicol region, the Western Visayas, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
I've learned all about from this typhoon paeng is the importance of being ready. Many of our fellow citizens lost their lives due to the lack of preparation in the middle of the tragic situation.
To ensure that we are always prepared, it is essential to listen to weather updates and advisories. In addition, we should be aware of the emergency hotlines and stock up on food, rescue equipment, and clothing in case we need to evacuate.
As a student, child, or classmate, my priority is the safety of my families, relatives, or schoolmates, and I will remind you that it is always important to be prepared because we cannot predict when disasters will enter our community.

READING AND WRITING TASK
SORIA, MIKYLAFE A.
G11 - NARRA
A typhoon is a type of large storm system having a circular or spiral system of violent winds, typically hundreds of kilometers or miles in diameter. The Philippines is an area of intense seismic activity because it is located along the border of two tectonic plates on the ‘Pacific Ring of Fire’, which means it is also prone to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
MANILA, 29 October 2022 – Tropical Storm Nalgae (local name Paeng) made landfall on Saturday, 29 October in Catanduanes with over 3 million people living in affected areas. Strong winds and heavy rains are causing flooding, landslides, and displacement in several regions in the Philippines, with 72 unconfirmed casualties. In the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) alone, over 78,000 households are reported to be affected by flooding and rain-induced landslides. Nalgae is the latest of over 20 storms that hit the Philippines during the 2022 Pacific Typhoon season.
“You cannot forever escape from the storm; you must learn to stand up to it!” Filipinos are known for being resilient in the face of a storm, literally and figuratively. When you live in a country where natural disasters happen quite frequently, you just have to be tough and remain faithful. We should build an emergency kit and make a family emergency plan and listen to the radio or TV for information.
Typhoons is like kryptonite to me. Students like me face high risks of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression disorder, and other health problems after typhoons .
There are three lesson I learned from typhoon Paeng. First, We must always be prepared because we don’t know what will happen. Find out where the evacuation area is, find out the emergency hotlines and prepare food, water, clothes, and emergency kits. Second, We must know what to do when there is a storm and flood so that we are not afraid and nervous. Lastly, Help the relatives clean up the mess caused by the typhoon Paeng and ask the relatives who were devastated by the typhoon Paeng are doing if they are fine.
"Awit Pag-asa" sung by: Alon Composed by : Renee Dela Rosa and Alvin De Vera
Filipinos are ready to help and unite in everything. We are not alone in the challenges of life because God and our fellow human beings are there. In everything we do, let's show love to our fellow human beings because we are the only ones who will help each other.

“When Prince Sihanouk of Cambodia came to Manila in the 1950s, the Tausug princesses and my mother were invited for dinner at Malacanang. According to my mother, they had a good laugh a day later when the Manila papers described them as Indonesian princesses. Apparently, Manila journalists did not believe that there were princesses in the Philippines.”

294 MILF, MNLF members take oath as PNP patrolmen, patrolwomen
SK PENDATUN, PARANG, MAGUINDANAO – Under the bristling heat of the noonday sun, 294 members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) stood in rapt attention as a drum and bugle band played in the background. Clad in full camouflage uniform, a great sense of pride was written on the faces of the sunburnt men and women. They had reason to be jubilant,…

READING AND WRITING
The catastrophic tropical cyclone severe tropical storm nalgae, also known as severe tropical storm Paeng in the Philippines, devastated the whole country before making landfall in hongkong and Macau.
The 26th of October saw the information of Nalgae, the 22nd name tropical storm of the 2022 Pacific typhoon season , off the coast of the Philippines,In response to Severe Tropical Storm Paeng, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. October 31, declined to proclaim a statewide, One year state of calamity (Nalgae). One of the provinces most impacted by Paeng was Cavite, which Marcos visited. Western Visayas and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region Of Muslim Mindanao ( BARMM) suffered the most damage and casualties, followed by Calabarzon and the upper portion of the Southern Tagalog region.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was advised by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to proclaim a one year state of national calamity; while the president stated he would consider the recommendation, House Speaker Martin Romualdez has already given it his full support Janneth Garin, the House Deputy Majority Leader, is worried that a widespread declaration could lead to the misappropriation of public funds.

Argosino, Sofia Marie G-11 Narra "Typhoon Paeng"
A tropical storm unleashed floods and landslides in the Philippines, killing at least 45 people and sending rescuers searching for missing victims Saturday. Strong winds and heavy rains slammed into the island of Mindanao, displacing thousands of people, aid agencies said. Floodwaters submerged schools and households there, according to the U.N. children’s agency. It said more than 3 million people were living in areas affected by the storm, the latest of at least 20 to hit the Philippines during this year’s Pacific typhoon season. Typhoon Paeng will hit Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon on October 31. The effects of this strong hurricane have been felt by numerous homes, buildings, and people. Thankfully, our home is elevated enough to avoid disaster, but even being in a secure location doesn't ensure that I will be able to sleep through a strong typhoon like this one. Once again, we are picking up the pieces of our collective lives shattered by a severe tropical storm. “Paeng” left a path of destruction this past weekend – a time many had expected to be the kind of “long weekend” one can enjoy with family as they leisurely prepared for the observance of All Saints’ Day. The death toll brought about by “Paeng’s” wrath was estimated at 60. Many of the fatalities were from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao. Most of them perished from floods triggered by torrential rains. Paeng” traversed the CALABARZON region, inundating the region’s main highways and road systems, as well as inflicting damage on homes, buildings, and other vital infrastructure. My three main takeaways from Storm Paeng are to always be ready and have an emergency supply kit on hand, to keep checking on your family members to see if they request help, and to always assist those who have been most severely affected by the typhoon. You could help them or help them with housework to reduce their suffering.
