Workers around the world can stand up for Palestinians
“Understanding what is happening in Palestine is only part of the battle — we must also think about how we can take action in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
“In recent days, Palestinian trade unions have called on workers around the world to demand an ‘end to all forms of complicity with Israel’s crimes’ by taking action to disrupt the flow of weapons to the Israeli war machine.
“There are several Israeli weapons companies located across the UK, including Elbit Systems, which has frequently been targeted by Palestinian organizers. UK weapons manufacturers like BAE Systems are also involved with the construction of technology being used against Palestine. The Campaign Against the Arms Trade (CAAT) and other NGOs have compiled data that shows the embeddedness of British industry in producing weapons for use by Israel.
“The very least Palestine should be able to expect from the world in terms of solidarity is an end to their active complicity in the terror being unleashed by the Israeli state. It is critical that British trade unions express solidarity with Palestine — and consider ways to disrupt the shipment of arms to Israel.
“There is a long tradition of such international solidarity within the labor movement. In the 1970s, workers in a factory manufacturing jets being used by Pinochet’s brutal authoritarian regime announced a boycott of shipments to Chile. More recently, unionized workers in Italy, South Africa, and the United States refused to load shipments of arms headed to Israel.
“It is easy to think of these as small, isolated actions that do little to arrest the functioning of the global arms trade. However, history has shown that actions, however small, can be of outsized importance in placing material limitations on the criminal actions of states.”

Haven’t seen this on here yet and it’s one of the most powerful pieces I’ve heard about British complicity and how it works here. This is Max Porter at Palfest 2023. (Via indyamoore)

The marketisation of higher education means that universities are increasingly run like businesses, treating students like consumers and exploiting their workforce. Research interests are increasingly dominated by the interests of the ruling class. The relentless attacks on pay and conditions for workers in higher education provoked a long-running national industrial dispute from 2019, sold out last year by the University and College Union.
Students and young people must turn to the working class, including university staff and lecturers, in a common fight against capitalism which is the root cause of war. A new anti-war movement must adopt a socialist perspective and be directed against all the bourgeois governments and political parties that represent the interests of the ruling class.

Parents hold playgroup at arms company office in protest at Gaza genocide
“Dozens of parents and children staged a noisy playgroup at the London office of arms manufacturer BAE Systems on Friday to highlight its complicity in Israel’s killing of thousands of Palestinian children.
“Pushing prams and toting a parachute banner, Parents for Palestine flooded into the lobby of the glittering Blue Fin building, which houses BAE’s Digital Intelligence division. The group released 100 black balloons in memory of children killed in Gaza, called out BAE with chants and songs, and urged the building managers to evict ‘murderers’ who work alongside them.
“‘Our government allows BAE to export arms knowing full well they’ll be used to perpetrate a genocide,’ said Rees Nicolas, one of the organisers, there with four-month-old Sylvia. ‘As parents, we couldn’t stand by and let this happen.’
“Outside, the group taped photos of murdered Palestinian children to the building’s pillars and played ‘sleeping bunnies’ with a five-metre parachute, painted with the words ‘BAE, stop arming Israel’.
“BAE Systems, Europe’s largest arms company, supplies the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) with key components of fighter jets, munitions, armoured vehicles and missile launching kits. Activists say BAE has made as much as £300m selling weapons components to Israel since 2016.
“Many of those parts are for the F-35, the Lockheed Martin-designed plane that is Israel’s most advanced fighter jet. The IDF is deploying F-35s in its airstrikes on Gaza, which have killed at least 14,500 people and devastated infrastructure in the Strip, and uses the jets to support invading troops.”

Denmark to Upgrade Its CV90 Infantry Fighting Vehicles - Technology Org

Denmark to Upgrade Its CV90 Infantry Fighting Vehicles - Technology Org
Denmark has ordered the defence contractor BAE Systems to upgrade its fleet of CV9035DK infantry fighting vehicles. These vehicles will receive many important upgrades, designed to help them to keep up with the demands of modern warfare.
CV9035DK infantry fighting vehicles are great weapons in the arsenal of the Royal Danish Army and they should continue serving for a couple of decades more.

The Royal Danish Army uses infantry fighting vehicles CV90. The CV90 ( Combat Vehicle 90 or strf 90) was designed in the late 1980s and entered service in 1994. Although it is technically a Swedish weapon, it is produced by BAE Systems AB, which will upgrade the Danish machines. Denmark is using the CV9035DK, which is an export version of the CV90 with a 35mm Bushmaster III autocannon.
Similar infantry fighting vehicles are used in the Netherlands, where they are designated CV9035NL, but are essentially the same thing. However, the CV9035NL already has a new turret and now the CV9035DK will get it too.
The Bushmaster III is a serious autocannon that fires 200 rounds per minute. The armour of Russian BMPs can be pierced through with no problem whatsoever, and if they hit well (that is, from the side) these rounds can even go through main battle tanks. But still, it’s time to upgrade its turret.
The Danish defence procurement organization DALO commissioned BAE Systems to modernize the fleet of CV9035DK infantry fighting vehicles. Denmark has been using 44 CV9035DKs for about 20 years now and would now like to upgrade them from the ground up. This will be a mid-life update, which could mean that these infantry fighting vehicles will be good for another two decades. War machines last a long time when there is no war.
The main upgrade for the CV9035DKs will be new turrets, but they will also receive lighter and quieter rubber composite tracks, better protection and mobility. The first upgraded infantry fighting vehicles will return to Denmark in 2026, the rest until 2029.
What’s so special about those new turrets? BAE Systems developed them some time ago and Dutch machines already use them. They have many improvements. For example, the position of the main gun has been adjusted to better balance the vehicle and to provide new opportunities to integrate other weapon systems (for example, anti-tank missiles).
According to the manufacturer, the new turret is also more ergonomic for the crew. This should not be overlooked, because soldiers can be more efficient when they are more comfortable.
It is good to remind people that while main battle tanks are great, it is infantry fighting vehicles that perform the majority of the tasks in today’s combat. Denmark has 44 CV9035DKs and 44 Leopard 2A7DK main battle tanks.
