“The King of Melody,” Burt Bacharach Dead at 94
Burt Bacharach, the composer of more than 50 top-40 hits and songwriting partner of and collaborator with Hal David, Dionne Warwick, Elvis Costello and others, has died at 94 of natural causes.
The Associated Press first reported the news.
“Farewell genius,” Simply Red tweeted.
Hailed by Dave Davies as “probably one of the most influential songwriters of our time,” Bacharach, whose motto was “never be ashamed to write a melody that people remember,” is said to have composed more than 1,000 songs including “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head,” “What the World Needs Now” and “What’s New, Pussycat?”
“He was a great inspiration,” Davies said.
Bacharach in 2020 cut Blue Umbrella with Nashville singer/songwriter Daniel Tashian, causing Sawyer Brown to marvel at the composer’s triumph of “creating timeless songs” into his 90s.
“Thank you, Burt Bacharach, for all those wonderful traveling companions,” Brown wrote on Facebook, recounting the songwriter’s work with Warwick, which included 20 top-40 hits.
Bacharach’s songs were also recorded by the Beatles, the Fifth Dimension, Manfred Mann, Dusty Springfield, Christopher Cross, Roberta Flack and others. He and Costello released Painted from Memory in 1998.
“I’ll always think of Burt Bacharach as the King of Melody,” Stephen Bishop said. “His songs are timeless.”

♫ R.I.P. Burt Bacharach ♫
Wednesday was a sad day for the music world, when legendary composer, arranger, conductor, record producer and occasional singer Burt Bacharach died at the age of 94.  Mr. Bacharach collaborated with many lyricists over the years, and even wrote some of his own words. But his primary collaborator was Hal David, seven years his senior, whom he met in a music publisher’s office in 1957. Bacharach…

Raindrops are fallin' on my head
And just like the guy whose feet
Are too big for his bed
Nothin' seems to fit
Those raindrops are
fallin' on my head
They keep fallin'
So I just did me
some talkin' to the sun
And I said I didn't like
The way he got things done
Sleepin' on the job
Those raindrops are
fallin' on my head
They keep fallin'
But there's one thing I know
The blues they send to meet me
Won't defeat me
It won't be long 'til happiness
Steps up to greet me
Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes
Will soon be turnin' red
Crying's not for me
'Cause I'm never gonna
stop the rain
By complainin'
Because I'm free
Nothing's worryin' me
It won't be long 'til happiness
Steps up to greet me
Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes
Will soon be turnin' red
Cryin's not for me
'Cause I'm never gonna
stop the rain
By complainin'
Because I'm free
Nothing's worryin' me

PREMIÈRE PLUIE B.J. Thomas – Raindrops keep falling on my head Jour tranquille.

Blue Swede - Hooked on a Feeling 1973
"Hooked on a Feeling" is a 1968 pop song, written by Mark James and originally performed by B.J. Thomas. Thomas's version featured the sound of the electric sitar (played by Reggie Young) and reached No. 5 in 1969 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In 1973, the Swedish poprock group Blue Swede did a cover version, which included the ooga chaka introduction from a 1971 cover by Jonathan King. King had heard Johnny Preston's "Running Bear", which was the inspiration for the ooga chaka chant. This version reached number one in the US in 1974.
In 1992, Blue Swede's recording was featured on the soundtrack of Quentin Tarantino's debut feature Reservoir Dogs.
In the mid-90's, the Dancing Baby "sk_baby.max" model became one of the first viral memes. The animation was also shown on several episodes of the 1998 legal comedy-drama series Ally McBeal as a recurring hallucination, suggesting a metaphor for the ticking of Ally's biological clock, and was accompanied by Blue Swede's "Hooked on a Feeling". Various commercial advertisements presented the Dancing Baby animation to international markets continuing the mainstream media attention. This particular manifestation of the video, bound to the song, is widely distributed and referred to as the "Ooga Chaka Baby", further cementing the scene in pop culture history.
The 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy, which featured the brass fanfare and title lyrics of the Blue Swede cover version prominently in its trailers and theatrical release, resulted in a significant spike in sales for the recording; the film's soundtrack reached the top of the Billboard 200 chart in August 2014. The song was also featured in the teaser trailer for the 2017 sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.
Blue Swede's frontman is singer/actor Björn Skifs. He did the Swedish dub of Woody in the first two Toy Story movies, as well as singing in stead of Phil Collins in the Swedish dub of Brother Bear.
"Hooked on a Feeling" received a total of 81,9% yes votes!

After dinner, Jack went to care for the horses and the goats and Ji Ho cleaned up the kitchen.
Vlad arrived to charge the bond. He felt that Ji Ho is not doing so well and so he came a bit earlier than usual, as Jack had suggested. But then Jack found out about the Mud Fight and challenged him ^^' Because things like this keep Jack 'sane' ^^ (and cheer up the others in dark times like these).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Watch out Jack!
Tumblr media
Oh no!
Tumblr media
Vlad is never as carefree as when he is with Jack :3
Tumblr media
And that's when Ji Ho came down to see what they are up to ^^'
Tumblr media
Haha Ji Ho barely get's to see Vlad like this. In fact he's always been a little afaid of Vlad because he's so grumpy and earnest most of the time.
Tumblr media
Is that really the Vlad he knows?
Tumblr media
And then Vlad noticed Ji Ho...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They quickly charged the Bond and Vlad left. (omg Vlad and his foolish pride! I think Ji Ho just made a huge step forward to learning how to love Vlad and the man himself just runs away because he's embarrassed...)
There are three bedrooms in the beach house but Ji Ho, Jack and Saiwa share the big bedroom on the first floor so no one has to sleep alone.
Tumblr media
The sound of the rain put Sai to sleep right away. Ji Ho and Jack decided to let him sleep as much as he can. At least he doesn't drown in his gloomy thoughts when he sleeps. They can't help him anyway right now.
Jack: "You don't get to see Vlad like this often, hm? But he can be really funny and merry. He'd been like this more often before..." Ji Ho: "Before he met me and things went downhill after he saved me and died for me?" Jack: "You know all this wasn't your fault. I just want to say: try to see this side of him too. You can find no better man." Ji Ho: "I will."
Tumblr media
Jack: "Let's sleep. It was a long day." They don't even have to assign the room with the best view on the river to Ji Ho because Jeb, Vlad and Kiyoshi built this house so that every room has a view on the River 💞
Tumblr media
TMI: I love to fall asleep with rain noise. I even have an app for this. It's called mynoise.

Year-End Poll #21: 1970
Tumblr media
[Image description: a collage of photos of the 10 musicians and musical groups featured in this poll. In order from left to right, top to bottom: Simon and Garfunkel, The Carpenters, The Guess Who, B.J. Thomas, Edwin Starr, Diana Ross, The Jackson 5, Rare Earth, The Beatles, Frede Payne. End description]
More information about this blog here
A major theme in doing these polls is that decades are rarely defined by the exact stretch of time. It's all arbitrary, and any kind of cultural change tends to take a while to kick into gear without waiting for the exact calendar date. The seventies, however, feels like the exception. Keep in mind that this is all coming from the benefit of hindsight, but many accounts I've read and heard describe the shift from the 60's to the 70's as being jarring. First, we need to address the losses. The transition to the 70's came with musical trauma. Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and many others would pass away between 1969 and 1970. The Beatles would permanently break up this year. Whatever 1970 was going to look like, it was going to be a decade without many of the artists that helped to define the previous era.
There is something from the sixties that was brought over into the seventies, however: The Vietnam War. By this point, it was becoming clearer to the general public that the war effort was less about any sense of patriotic duty, and more about President Nixon not wanting to be the first American president to lose a war. The anti-war movement wouldn't just be populated by the anarchists or the hippies. However, the movement won't get as much traction in the top of the mainstream music charts as it did before. War by Edwin Starr, occupies a strange space in the early seventies as well as a strange space in Motown Records. Originally recorded for The Temptations, the track was covered by Edwin Starr out of fear that the original version would damage the group's crossover appeal.
Motown and its divisions will continue to reign supreme (or The Supremes...I'll stop) this decade as the label introduces the nation to a new flock of superstars. In addition to Diana Ross' solo debut, we're also seeing the introduction of The Jackson 5.
It's really hard not to apply a narrative to the songs listed above. As I keep saying, trends are rarely that neatly-defined and we're just looking at the very tip of the most popular/mainstream in doing these polls. But I can't help but notice that most of these songs are about learning to cope with some kind of hardship. Again, that's probably just a coincidence, but I think it's neat.
Also feel free to check out the twenty minute album version of Rare Earth's Get Ready, if you're like me and you're disappointed that Iron Butterfly's 17 minute In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida didn't make any of the sixties lists.

Song: Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head by B.J. Thomas Pairing: Commander Fox x Reader (Fox Den come and get your man) Content: A rough day, wedding anniversary, Post Order 66 Fix It Word Count: 489 Note: Inspired by, but doesn't explicitly state @tcwmatchmakingau
It had already been a day, and it was just lunchtime. The war was over, but the newer project of making the levels of the undercity closest to the top safer was in full swing.
Senators still needed escorting, as did other officials. And they found that the troopers were more effective in lowering crime, with a lower arrest and casualty rate than the regular police force, so they were put in charge of them too. Unfortunately that took a bit of.... house cleaning.
Already that morning Fox had to deal with two senators' aides that insisted they warranted higher ranking officers as their escorts and would not take no for an answer from any of the usual troopers that typically fielded those calls.
Reports because another member of the old police force refused to take the training designed by the Jedi Mind Healers for dealing with those with mental illness. He had to be let go, and did not take the news well.
Around lunch his suit for that night was delivered from the cleaners, but had gotten badly stained in transit.
But safely in his desk drawer was the bracelet he had gotten for your anniversary present, along with a packet of flimsi for the surprise vacation.
After lunch he gets a call from you, in frustrated tears because your reservations that night had been canceled because of a kitchen fire and you had spent the better part of the morning calling every place within a reasonable distance to try to get one. Everything was booked.
“Cyare, don't worry,” he said gently, “Relax and we'll stay in. I'll bring dinner home,”
The afternoon didn't get much better, one thing after another.
Finally he had cleaned up the last mess, leaving the night shift in Thire's more than capable hands, he headed home.
The stop at the restaurant for take out resulted in another set back, the order got sent to the wrong location and would have to be remade. It was going to take awhile, so it was going to be delivered.
Brushing it off, gifts on his pocket, he rushed the rest of the way home to you.
When he opens the door to the apartment, pulling his helmet off, you are rushing into the living area dripping wet with your bathrobe on.
“I fell asleep in the bath! I lost track of time,” you exclaim as he wraps you in a tight embrace, burying his face in your damp neck.
“Doesn't matter, Cyare.” he murmers against your skin. He glances up to see the bouquet of flowers on the table that he had ordered and delivered to you. They were supposed to be your favorite flowers. They weren't, of course they weren't.
He began to laugh into your shoulder.
“What's funny?” you ask.
“Today,” he laughs, picking you up to nuzzle closer. “But it's worth it because you are here,”
