There have been many Turkish films and series which portrayed the clash between Westernized vs more traditional Turks. But in all of these cases one of two things was true:
1) The religious conservative people were primarily poor. They could be the poor oppressed class the whisky-drinking seculars were oppressing or they could be the ignorant villagers the enlightened village teacher would “civilize”. But they were poor.
2) If they were rich they were nondescript conservatives rather than explicitly religious. Think of sitcoms like Kaynanalar or Avrupa Yakası.
Kızılcık Şerbeti is important because perhaps for the first time religious rich people (people who are ruling this country) are being criticized in mainstream Turkish popular culture.
