[Fragments of Magic] . No cover with this particular post just yet but I wanted to get one of these out there into the world! Now that I've done all my intro posts I'm floundering on what I should do next. I might take it easy for a bit while i decide. . Been testing the waters of getting back into book 2 draft 2 so that will probably end up being where today's energy is spent. . PS: when I say expanded elemental magic system I mean 12 full elements. ;)c

Publishing is weird. Especially when you're used to fic. Because you write this thing. And then a year later you cut it in half and edit it for publication. And then a year after that, the first part comes out. And then a year after that the second part comes out. And you finally decide to sit down and read both of them through after a bit of distance except then you're immediately going "look at this glaring plothole, why did you use so many en dashes, stop saying the word 'like,'" except, unlike Ao3 where you can just go...make adjustments as needed, you're stuck with everyone seeing your writing's flaws.
And now I'm being overly critical about the things I'm currently writing because god forbid I'm making mistakes (not recognizing them) that I will someday kick myself for once I have further matured as a writer.
I guess the good news is that I'm writing at all? But that bad news is I'm a neurotic mess.

THE FIRST HALF OF CHAPTER 4 IS NOW LIVE!
Everyone, I’ve been working on this for months now, and the impressive and also sad part is; it’s only halfway done! But it’s also 60k words and brings the average playthrough of the demo to 65k words long, so I figured it was worth uploading. Can’t go too long without an update, right?
In this update, pair with Lance and Alvarez as you infiltrate the abandoned warehouse with the S.W.A.T. team on a mission to take down the suspects and end put a close on this case once and for all! There are a lot of different branches to this one. Like… maybe more than I realistically needed. But, I wanted people to be able to craft their own story and make sure they had something to come back to a second time around if they were so inclined. I may even go back and add a little more to parts of this scene before the official release, but that’s a discussion for another day.
Thank you all so much for supporting me, whether you’re a paid member or a free member, and I hope you all continue to enjoy the story I’m crafting!

Man, you're thinking, I'm struggling with writing. But this stranger on the internet can't possibly want to personally cheer me on and talk me through my creative problems for free and for nothing in return.
Listen. Let me tell you about my day.
Wife has what is, to me, a Big Important Job. Because of that, and with her support, I get to try my shot at being a full-time writer. So about six days a week, I get up and write for five hours and market for three. Every day. It's all I do.
This is cool and a problem - a cool problem, so to speak. I need other things to do with my time and for the sake of my carpal tunnel. And it has always been a dream of mine to support other artists, just because I feel like if you want to do art you should do it. And if the art is so hard you can't figure out how to start, maybe you're thinking about it the wrong way.
If I do nothing else substantial with my day it will be a rousing success because last night I asked a friend to write me three sentences and they came back with seven. That's the most amazing thing in the world to me.
So if you think you'd be taking up my time or burdening me by talking about your writing, you're not. I've decided to consider this part of my job.
Asks are open. Chat is open. Email address is [email protected]. Send me what you're working on, send me what you're struggling with, tell me why you're struggling and I swear to god I will leap through the screen and help.
Try me.

Fragments of Magic
. December is a special month for me when it comes to this story as this was the month I finally decided to stop having these characters just be dudes I drew and actually weave/piece together their story. . Fun fact: Brentan and Seraphina were the first two characters I created and were supposed to be a couple together (which is hilarious considering their relationship in writing now) But anyways, today I'm happy to introduce you guys to Brentan :) . . . Book Blurb: Just when Amber finally starts to understand the basics of how to wield the last part of her elemental magic, her mentor, Sage, is captured by the King’s elite forces for crimes against the crown. Living sequestered in the woods and with nowhere else to turn, Amber ventures to the nearby port city to look for help. There she finds an unwilling thief, Brentan, and manages to convince him to help in exchange for a favor for his own plans. Amber has no choice but to accept and they must work together to find a way to rescue Sage. . . . Art by Me

Jealousy
A/N ‘nother poem
.
Jealousy is bound to me, deep within my surrounding sea
My emotions: homicidal as you see, and aggressively, they’re killing me.
The cliff’s not far for me to jump, but conclusions distort the reality.
I’m stuck inside my head of lies, undyingly corrupted by my mentality.
In a fit of red and rage, I lose myself undoubtedly.
The storm inside is destructive, taking all my thoughts away from me.
Nowhere left to go or hide, I realize that it’s jealousy
It masks my feelings and the truth, but leaves behind uncertainty
Crazed from all the negative, I try again, with mastery.
Little patience left inside, it dawns on me, the treachery.
It never was what I thought, and it roughs me up so tragically.
Nothing but a cup of tea, all alone and lonely.
All but not, just jealousy, waiting for me ingeniously.

Writers of Tumblr, listen up! This has probably been said before but I'mma say it again:
Do you feel like you're procrastinating on your current fic by writing down another one because an idea struck you at 2am? No you're not.
Do you feel like you're procrastinating on your current fic because you've been doing school/uni/job work? No you're not, that stuff is more important than how many socks Deku wears on any given day.
Do you feel like you've been procrastinating on your current fic because you just haven't had the energy and all you want to do is binge YouTube videos and eat ice cream? No, you're not, take care of yourself!
Are you down because you've got three WIPs open and can't think of how to fit some scenes together? Don't bother, just keep writing the fun and interesting scenes.
If writing is a fun hobby for you, don't make your fun hobby into a chore.
If writing is your job, don't turn your job into a chore.
We as humans work better when we're enjoying what we're doing - just think back to when you were in school: what lessons do you remember the most of and which ones did you enjoy?
As Star Trek keeps telling us: time isn't linear, it's relative. So why do we have to write things in linear order? No one ever really told us to do that, school systems just assumed it. They said "write a beginning, middle and end, in that order" because it was the easiest and most streamlined approach.
But this is your fic or your book or your assignment, you don't have to write it that way. Write it in the way that the ideas come.
If the opening is hard, write the big fight at the climax. If the connection is eluding you, write the scenes it's supposed to connect between and see what happens. You'll get there, I believe in you <3
At the end of the day, please enjoy writing! Enjoy reading too! If you have kids or know kids, encourage them to read! Little kids especially have a tendency to copy what older people do, so show them books you love.
Don't feel bad because you haven't updated a fic in months. You've been letting the ideas cook and they just have a really long cooking time. Re-read some stuff and maybe some ideas will come up. Listen to music, watch your shows and films, read other books and fics. Go for a walk, even - you can get inspiration from anything.
WIP owners: I believe in you. You can do this! They might sit there and taunt you, or beg to be finished, but if you can't do it right now then you can't do it right now and you should take a break. Save it, close it, do something else. Come back to it when you're ready.
💜💜💜

If you're an aspiring author working to get published, slaving away on a novel in progress with perfection as your goal... I would highly advise you, every once in a while... to write.
Not on your novel, not in your notes and concepts document, not on anything even remotely professional and not in a journal. Simply tell a story, stress free, with no expectations. Could be fanfiction from your favorite series, a random short story idea you had three months ago, or a writing prompt you found online. Allow yourself to have some fun again. Remind yourself why you love what you do. It will make you all the more determined and inspired to one day complete your ultimate work.
Fanfiction was how I originally fell in love with writing (that and my adventures in my paracosms). I started putting my story ideas on paper when I was eight. Four years ago I stopped writing fanfiction altogether, deeming it a waste of time when I could be putting my talents elsewhere. But a couple days ago I randomly decided to sit down with a computer and a few ideas, no outline or notes whatsoever, and just have a good time. Incredibly cleansing.
