Is lying about writing fanfic harder after Lockdown?

This week, I went to a friends house for the first time since early March. We ended up talking about how we've been coping (or not coping) with lockdown. I've done some gardening, adopted some cats, and read a TON of fic.

Course when I was asked what I was reading, I just said fantasy stuff.. There's never a follow up question to that.

But then I said I'd been writing more than usual. This is something I never say out loud. No one IRL knows I write, but two friends probably suspect. I have similar suspicions about them. This wasn't one of those friends.

She asked what I'm writing and I said nothing.

It didn't sit right with me, and I think I'm going to have a harder time lying bout this in the future. And it just made me think, why am I lying about this? Fandom and fanfic has given me a bit of purpose while I've been working from home, and lying about something I enjoy because I'm worried what people think seems so juvenile.

Anyone feeling similar? Or am I just old enough that I don't care anymore 🤞

The best part of a show is when I'm done performing. Not only can I now relax (lol) but I love the love I get from the audience. Last night I was told by someone that in their eyes, I was a mixture of MC Lyte and Queen Latifah (BOTH phucking Queens) and that I had that real old school flavor. A woman even ran up to me and hugged me with so much happiness and joy! Another woman told me she loved my song 'Black Girl Magic' and it meant a lot to her. Someone else was like, "You are amazing! And you are definitely going places!" It's a great feeling to have people respond to your music like that... And not just one generation but young and older people love my music and my message. Like my auntager Toni Menage said last night, God gave us these talents (these blessings) and we are here to share it with other people. This is all I've ever wanted to do and I'm grateful I have come this far and I wont stop until I reach the top!
