#Ask Daedra

So like I'm playing oblivion and like I'm pretty fucking stupid and don't pay attention so I probably just missed something but like wasn't the whole thing about how fires of akatosh etc etc basically had a barrier between daedra entering and that's how merhunes dagon invaded by putting out those fires or whatever but how do daedra show themselves then like why does Hermaeus basically look the same in Skyrim when u meet him and the same in apocrypha or like how do u have that entire quest with sanguine or like how does a dremora get out to fuck my ass violently with a long sword
First off you're not dumb. The information they give you in game is limited unless you go digging through books.
TL;DR: the dragon fires don't stop communication and some daedra are strong and can appear they just can't interact with the world without help.
Now the dragon fires were first lit by the first Empress Alessia when she acquired the amulet of kings from the Aelids and made a pact with her patron diety Akatosh. He promised to keep the doors of oblivion shut as long as every Ruler of Cyrodill used the Amulet and lit the dragon fires.
I'm not going to go into the events of oblivion because I don't want to spoil it for Anon but you can bother me about it after you finish the game 🥰🥰
Its important to note, however that while the doors are shut, the phone lines are still working. As a result daedric worshipers can still communicate with the daedra and the daedra can communicate with their worshipers. Also, people on Nirn can sometimes open windows for dramora to come through the conjuration school of magic allows you to summon, and control if you have the strength, dremora and atronochs.
Some daedra, like Hermaeus Mora, are strong enough to open the windows themselves and peek in on men and elves and even appear to them. However they *usually** can't interact with the world without persuading a soft minded mortal into doing their bidding and running their errands for them. Think Septimus Signus in skyrim or Mancar Cameron and his cultists in Oblivion.
Tbh I don't know how Sanguine comes into Nirn I assume that he possesses a farmer that went on a little to hard of a bender. Or a worshipers summoned a dremora that has part of his soul in it. Regardless I don't think that you party with the God of parties himself just like... a version of him.
Hope this helped ❤❤

If anyone was going to figure out the Vestige's meta-physics weirdness, it'd be Azandar. He would see them jumping off of cliffs and coming back, ask how tf they do it, and then realise that they're neither mortal or daedra but a secret third thing (a humanoid blob of daedric goop with a vestige and a mortal soul). Fucker would write a whole thesis on the subject. Every time a daedra, from lowly scamp to a fucking Prince, refers to them as a mortal, Azandar would be there to 'erm actually-!' them and explain that this dipshit is only legally a mortal.
They're his dearest friend and his new special interest.

He is innocent of all crimes. Mehurnes Dagon would never hurt anyone. Never once. Ever.
//I’m noticing a strange pattern of me falling for Daedric Princes whose color schemes are red and also were involved with Martin Septim for some reason

In regard to one of your recent reblogs, the while concept of unreliable narrator in TES lore is perfect. You never know if something is a reality or just random stuff someone made up while high. Especially creation myths and other mythology, how do you know they're real, you weren't there! I very much like the concept of bosmer and khajiit coming from the same source, just with some being formed by Azura and some by Y'ffre, but it could also just be not real, their roots being completely separate, and mythology being formed specifically because of their geographic placement. You don't know. I don't know. Author of that book probably doesn't know either, just relaying mythology they already knew. And it's beautiful.
Water is memories though, that's been basically confirmed by one dremora found in bangkorai
Yep, I think it's one of tes's best qualities. It's a bit of a shame they haven't leaned into it as heavily since they did in Morrowind, but I think it makes the world feel more alive and the lore more interesting to read about and interpret. I wish fans would lean into it more. I think there's a tendency (less on tesblr and more elsewhere) to just go with the altmer or imperial myths as the "truth", but I think treating them more as mythologies is more interesting!
Related: one of my minor wishes for future games is a group with a religion/belief system that is super out there and nothing like ones we've seen, but one where you can understand how they came to conclusions they did

Honestly, I shouldn't be surprised anymore by this game.
By the fact, I just found the Daedric prince of debauchery in a fight with two apprentice mages, and he was losing.
Tumblr media
He also has NPC dialog, I love this game.

Mehunes Dagon is SUCH a fitting antagonist for Oblivion and I do wish his writing was better than just Random Evil Dude. Uriel’s reign wasn’t easy: I’m not a fan of the dude, but man, did shit HAPPEN. Then they come with words like these amidst a period of what already was political unrest, and it’s hard not to give in:
Tumblr media
Can you imagine the MESS the last 40 years have been in Tamriel, between the Break in the West, the Red Year, the very ascension of Uriel to the throne? I don’t think Uriel was a particularly emperor, even if he was beloved by the Blades (which I do think must at least have a fat fucking paycheck). To your average citizen, their very God might as well have forgotten about them.
Tumblr media
The Commentaries feed themselves on the unrest, on the dissatisfaction, on the hatred and rather than using it to fuel hope for a better future, they introduce a longing for the past in a way — a refusal to grow up and to walk with your own legs.
Tumblr media
The want to return to the Mother is an interesting topic. To be with the Mother may be to be one, to have all your needs met, you’re safe, you’re secure. But do you exist? Can you call yourself human? Can you say you are alive? To live, to a degree, is conflict. To mature is to learn how to solve it.
Tumblr media
The Magna Ge however live in stasis, as they fled Nirn in the infancy. They will never grow. They will never mature. They will never get to love this world, which is Other, and to get to love that Other. Living in the un-time, they seek the perfection that cannot exist in Mundus.
The Commentaries does raise a really good point: FUCK the Empire, stick it to the Man. But however, it takes the completely wrong turn with it, and rather than seeking to embrace the Other so we can join hands and walk together through the night, it forcibly wants to bring forth the dawn through annihilating said Other. In a way, it preaches equality, but only for a select few.
Which is why ultimately, Martin REFUSING to become the Emperor and in his humanity becoming Divine rather than becoming Divine manifest in humanity is such a fitting ending. The Empire is a relic of the Third Era, and Martin-Akatosh offered the Alessian Covenant to all of Tamriel by sealing shut the gates of Oblivion. It’s ultimately about the blessing of Time, of life, of living, of growing and maturing. That’s the end of the Arena, and the Beauty of Dawn.
Which may be why Skyrim in general is so disappoint LMAO
Really loved that you touched on the nature of the Magna Ge. Interesting to consider Mehrunes Dagon in this light: change and revolution are considered his spheres (perhaps through a mortal lens) but he was possibly created as a tool of these stagnant entities. It all comes down to perspective: people grounded in the flawed world and seeing the upheaval of his invasion vs. immortal timeless beings in stasis just seeing it as like, deleting a buggy section of code.
and the last paragraph... HOOO boy. your mind. "That's the end of the Arena, and the Beauty of Dawn." I have nothing intelligent to add I just love this
(answering this publicly w/ permission because it was so good, and also gonna add his disclaimer that this is personal interpretation rather than canon lore)

I'd put in several daedric princes with a fake moustache in the poll as well to get enough contenders.
@incorrectdaedra three Sheos but one's ginger, one has his GLORIOUS beard, and the third has the beard but is wearing a ridiculous fake mustache on top.
Fake mustache is Ann Marie.

Oghma for the skyrim ask game!
oghma: which deity would you gladly form a pact with? if able to set the terms, what would you gain or lose in this deal?
If I was the Dragonborn I’d likely make a pact with herma mora or nocturnal! Mora because like come on. His realm is a librarians dream! I’d love to collect books straight from his little area, I’d just have to be careful that he doesn’t pull a miraak and keep me there for thousands of years. And nocturnal is pretty cool, love her bonuses in game, and we love a sneaky queen that is canonically the patron of thieves. I’d hate to live in her realm though. Terrible graphics. Very bad gamma scaling. Not even any little guys to keep me company
If I’m a normal joe I’d do something with either arkay or Hircine. Arkay because his whole deal is pretty neat tbh, the wintersun version of him(where u actually get to worship a god) is very neat as well. I wouldn’t pray for shit but I’d do his little rites and stuff for the dead. Hircine because I could be a werewolf. Who doesnt wanna be a werewolf? That would be rad. And he’s arguably one of the better daedra, at least from the little we see of him in Skyrim. He’s like the only one who doesn’t curse your entire bloodline if you tell him to go fuck himself lol
No matter what I’d make it very clear that I’m not obligated to go to their realm after I die, especially for the daedra. Nothing worse than selling your soul, then when you finally die you decide that you don’t want that actually. I’d also make sure that my pets can follow me to wherever I go if they wanted to, with eternal protection. My sweet babies should get to do whatever and never worry about their immortal souls being in peril<3

My HoK was a diehard Hircine follower. Classic Ranger type woodsperson, too. They turned over the Savior's Hide.
Heresy? They didn't see it that way. They already hunted the unicorn. And in turning the Hide over to Martin, they'd be able to hunt down Mankar Camoran.
I like to think the Huntsman would've been pleased.
Keeping your eye on the next hunt over a prize, indeed I think he would be proud. He might even grant another award, beast blood maybe? I don't know, random thought.
I don't think I've seen a HoK like yours before, they sound cool.
I'm also imagining this conversation:
Dagon: Can you tell your follower to stop closing my gates?
Hircine: Why? Can't you stop them yourself?
*Queue Sheogorath and Sanguine dropping in to go "Ohhh!"*

B, H, and L for the Fanfic Ask Meme
B: Any of your stories based off personal experiences?
As far as I can remember, no. I’ve written a lot of stories over my life so it’s hard to keep track, but a majority of them are fanfics or fantasy that I base off my favorite shows or books. I have based a few things off of dreams if that counts as a personal experience.
H: How would you describe your style?
Descriptive writing. I try to paint the scene with my words so what I’m imagining is clear to those reading it. That my main focus when writing. I can always see my stories very vividly as I write them and I want everyone to be able to see them too. It’s easier with fanfics, since a lot of times I’m describing things the readers have actually seen before, but it’s harder with my original content. (Which you can read, for free, on my Patreon)
L: What’s the weirdest AU you’ve ever come up with?
Weirdest as in content, the Daedra of Kvatch, cuz that one gets weird. Like with the canonical mpreg, which I don’t even know where I got that idea from. But weird as in the AU itself, that would go to an AU I’ve never posted about before where the Nerevarine is the protagonist of all the main 3 games. I just loved my character so much that I had to make her in all 3 games.

Skyrim OC asks!
2. Do they worship any deities, be it aedra or daedra?
34. What is their most preferred weapon type? (Ex: Glass dagger, dwarven bow, etc)
Sophrine comes from a wacky multicultural family that worships a lot of different deities: her father's side of the family are very sensible Mara-and-Zenithar people, while her mother's side is part Nord and part Dunmer so they've got some Azura+traditional Nord religion going on. It makes matters a bit more complicated that the latest incarnation of Sheogorath is Sophrine's distant great-aunt, Sacha Llervu.
Soph herself has a strong connection to Mara and Dibella, as she values love, creativity, family, and tasteful horniness. She's good friends with Maramal and Dinya at the Riften temple and often helps them with matchmaking duties.
Sophrine's favorite weapon is the elven bow her mother gave her. She's more of a mage girl than a weapon girl, but bows are quick, elegant, and less viscerally gross than beheading someone. When beheading someone is necessary, though, she loves Dawnbreaker (thanks, Meridia!)

What colors would a dremora serving Hermaeus Mora have?
//click for better image quality … Time: 1hr//
Tumblr media
Truth is, there are no dremora who serve naturally under Hermaeus Mora (in TDI). Instead, dremora form other Princes are either captured by, traded to Mora, or approach him personally. Their memories are taken from them by Mora to add to his collection of knowledge, and they’re made as book keepers, organizers, and other general task managers around the endless mess of Aprocrypha.
Like all things that enter Apocrypha, too much exposure to that Oblivion plane begins to morph and transform them. Dremora are no different, and take on different forms depending on their origin in Oblivion. However, they all eventually take on a fishy / tentacle-esque form, with many dremora evolving into Seekers or Lurkers. A few others devolve into other mindless creatures that roam the inky waters of Apocrypha. The unclucky individuals eventually rot and decay until death takes them.

How do your OCs feel about the daedric princes?
meeting some religious velothi during her travels opened ayo's mind to the practice of worshiping the three but she's admittedly still leery of daedra worship as a concept. hermaeus mora plagued her for years before she was able to (mostly) shake him off but she still lives in terror of waking up one morning in his library under the sea
ravi is a devout mephalite. he also worships boethiah and azura (and makes frequent visits to azura's shrine) but i think that most of the velothi who worship the reclamations tend to favor one in particular; this is a melancholy echo of the lost age in which velothi families favored one of the three as their patron. mora scares him too
shurri's an interesting case...her "faith" insofar as she observes it is a mishmash of velothi ancestor-worship (learned from her father) and khajiiti reverence of the ja'khajay (learned from the khajiit she grew up around). she carries around a "waiting-door" that consists of an idol of boethiah (she likes boethiah best) and some knickknacks tied up in a kerchief—but when she prays to it she's not convinced that anyone's listening on the other side
eno hlaalu was teaching nesh the proper rites for mephala worship but after [SPOILER] she took a hard left and went back to worshiping mauloch like her mother. growing up in a little ascadian village she was of course surrounded by worshipers of the three and does leave trinkets at their shrines now and again (and keeps a waiting-door too)
sala's actually a vehk-worshiper and doesn't care about the reclamations whatsoever
kur wishes azura would leave her alone

Così per funsies and shit.
