So I've been pulled into some Mechwarrior shenanigans and I truly forgot how much I liked the concept of 'its a fancy walking tank and it's unwieldy but can take a hit and is incredibly effective in the hands of a good pilot' over the 'i get in and become superman' style. Both are good, I just like one better. Also probably why I enjoyed the MSG: The 8th MS Team more than a lot of other MSG's...also early Code Geass fights

Defenders of Ukraine Showed How They Use Czech Howitzers DANA - Technology Org
Artillery is still a very important part of modern warfare. Especially self-propelled howitzers that can quickly react to the movement of enemy forces. The defenders of Ukraine showed how they successfully attacked a column of Russian armoured vehicles with Czech self-propelled howitzers DANA.

A short video showing the actions of the defenders of Ukraine was released by the Commander of the Ground Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Pavlyuk. He did not reveal where the operation took place or when the video was taken but it involved the 21st and 56th Mechanised Brigades of Ukraine.
“Enemy infantry, TOS-1A Solntsepyok, a tank and a BMP with soldiers were destroyed,” Pavlyuk wrote. The TOS-1A is a multiple launch rocket system, sometimes called a heavy flamethrower due to its thermobaric rounds. It is a particularly hated weapon by the Ukrainians and the most expensive weapon mentioned by Pavlyuk.
This attack was carried out by drones and Czech howitzers DANA. If you want to be precise, the DANA is not a Czech, but a Czechoslovakian howitzer, which is reflected in its 152.4 mm calibre, typical of Eastern Bloc countries. However, Ukraine received these howitzers from the Czech Republic, which is one of Ukraine’s strongest military supporters.
The DANA howitzer was created around 1976 and entered service in 1981. It is a large artillery piece mounted on a Tatra 8×8 chassis. Weighing around 30 tonnes, this weapon is said to be capable of reaching speeds of up to 80 km/h and performs very well off-road. This is important because howitzers like the DANA are often on a quick-fire mission and retreat so that the enemy can’t calculate their location using counter-battery radars. DANA howitzers usually participate in shoot-and-scoot operations.
DANA’s internal ammunition compartment holds 60 rounds. More can be delivered using other machines. This howitzer destroys targets at a distance of up to 20 km and its rate of fire is 2-5 shots per minute. In addition to the main gun, the DANA also has a 12.7 mm machine gun, mainly needed for self-defence in case it is ambushed while on the move from one position to another. The crew of the DANA howitzer consists of 5 soldiers.
In 2021, a modernized version of DANA M2 with improved fire control and communication systems was introduced. DANA actually became the basis of several modern self-propelled howitzers. For example, the 155 mm Zuzana and DITA are close relatives of the DANA howitzer. Ukraine is still waiting for its DITAs, but soon it will be operating pretty much all versions of DANA.
The DANA is a quick and reliable howitzer. It can deliver quick blows to the advancing Russian forces and then retreat. Ukraine will need more of these kinds of weapons in the near future and it’s good to know that they are coming.

That @whenmagicfilledtheair blogs blatant antisemitism while simultaneously denying it scares the shit out of me.
Yeah, they are by far the worst I've seen.
The thing that I find the most frustrating about people like them, and why I even bothered to comment on their pinned post is that they demand answers to questions, but do so already knowing nothing anyone says will appease them. They are not looking for a debate or even open to changing their mind in anyway. You can see that if you look through their blog and see how they respond to anyone trying to provide them with evidence of their antisemitism.
That's why I didn't try to answer their pinned post, because I'm not going to spend hours going through their their blog taking screenshots and then compiling my own sources for why what they said is wrong or antisemitic when they will just deny anything they don't agree with as wrong or Israeli propaganda.
The thing is, it's easy to criticize Israel without being antisemitic--just look at how other Israelis have been doing it for years. But that's not what this person wants--they want to paint Israel as the most evil country on Earth, with the most evil people, who do uniquely evil things that no other country has ever done before.
I'm not Israeli, I'm not even Jewish, so for the most part I haven't said anything about this war. I come to Tumblr for memes, art and fandom shit. Yet, the rise of Antisemitism is really worrying me, especially when it's so easily brushed off with the excuse that it's just Israeli propaganda.
Like, I just don't understand why it's so hard to admit that, yeah, given how old antisemitism and how it's shaped a lot of cultures worldwide that it's possible some of it has slipped into the 'free Palestine' movement. This doesn't mean it's an inherently bad movement or that Palestinians deserve to die or lose their homes. It just means that maybe sometimes people should take a step back and see if some of their inherent biases have effected how they talk about this war as opposed to others that do not involve the Jewish State of Israel.
#antisemitism#bad blog is really fucking bad#like i'm sorry but when did we start not believing rape victims?#or just excusing mass slaughter of civilians as fine if they were the 'wrong' side?#I mean the fact they even have to ask 'what should have Hamas done instead of killing babies and small children?' is ridiculous#idk maybe blow up the wall around Gaza or attack military targets or soldiers?#in the very least don't go door to door killing children#and like if Hamas is allowed to kill children to save it's citizens why is Israel not allowed to do the same?#Also I do take issue with people calling it a genocide simply because i think it obscures a much bigger and tougher subject#which is that modern warfare has become extremely okay with mass civilian casualties#and even old wars did at times purposefully target civilians in order to win (take Sherman's march during the American Civil War)#civilian casualties have become acceptable collateral damage and their numbers have risen as populations go up#and weapons become more deadly#mass civilian deaths are not unique to Israeli warfare#carpet bombing is just how modern wars are fought#and it's not as if Hamas does not want to do this--they fire hundreds of rockets at Israeli civilian centers as well#they just have cheaper artillery and Israel has the Iron Dome which destroy most before they land#I'm positive that if Hamas had assess to better bombs and airplanes they would do the same shit Israel is#because that's just how wars are fought now#which i think should bother people#but fixing this issue isn't as easy as stopping Israel's 'genocide' because the solution there is just stop bombing#and ignores that civilians everywhere else in the world who are living through wars#are still getting bombed to pieces by the thousands

Biden’s Bling-Bling Diplomacy: Ships 500 Million Dollars Worth of Metal Monsters to Ukraine!
The Biden government confirmed its decision to deploy up to $500 million in military assistance to Ukraine this Tuesday, a move set to include over 50 heavily fortified vehicles and an impressive supply of air defense system missiles. This support follows an unexpected insurrection in Russia over the weekend. It is seen as an effort to encourage Ukraine’s counteroffensive, which, until now, has been sluggish in its initial phases.
This marks the 41st occasion since the onset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 that the United States, under the authorization of the President, has made substantial provisions of military equipment and weaponry from its reserves for Ukraine. The expedited delivery process under this program underscores the U.S.’s unwavering commitment to its Eastern European ally.
Though these aid packages typically follow a premeditated design and have recently comprised several essential armaments for frontline combat, it is unlikely that the choice of contents was influenced by the recent uprising led by Yevgeny Prigozhin and his Wagner mercenary group. The question remains whether the Ukrainian forces can capitalize on the resulting chaos in the Russian ranks post this fleeting revolt.
Nonetheless, the incoming shipment of missiles and heavy-duty vehicles could potentially be leveraged by Ukraine as it attempts to exploit the escalating rift between the head of the Wagner Group and the Russian military hierarchy. The extent to which Prigozhin’s mercenaries might withdraw from the conflict remains a topic of speculation.
Interestingly, these mercenaries had withdrawn from Ukraine to overtake a military headquarters in a southern Russian city. They journeyed hundreds of miles towards Moscow, only to retreat after a mere 24 hours last Saturday.
A statement from the Pentagon has detailed that the U.S. plans to dispatch 30 Bradley Fighting Vehicles and 25 armored Stryker vehicles to Ukraine. Additional military support includes missiles for the High-Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and the Patriot air defense systems, Javelin and high-speed anti-radiation (HARM) missiles, demolition weaponry, and other artillery rounds and ammunition varieties.
The White House principal deputy press secretary Olivia Dalton stated that the new package contains “key capabilities” to enhance Ukraine’s counteroffensive operations and fortify its air defenses.
The Pentagon reported that since the Russian invasion, the U.S. had delivered over $15 billion worth of weaponry and equipment to Ukraine, with an additional $6.2 billion in unidentified supplies yet to be sent. The extra amount of over $6 billion resulted from an accounting mistake, as the military had overestimated the worth of the weaponry it shipped to Ukraine during the past year.
Beyond this immediate support, the U.S. has also committed to providing over $16.7 billion in long-term funding for various weapons, training, and other equipment through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative and nearly $2 billion more in foreign military financing.
The U.S. still holds $1.2 billion in uncommitted drawdown authority, which will lapse at the end of this fiscal year on Sept. 30. Meanwhile, the remaining $1.9 billion in USAI funds is set to expire only at the end of the next fiscal year, in September 2024.

Ukraine is using US-supplied High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) to undermine Russian artillery superiority by attacking its munition warehouses.
Twenty ammunition depots have been destroyed by the advanced weaponry supplied by the West, the Kyiv Independent reports.
As Insider's Alisa Shoaib reported, Ukraine has sought new strategies in the eastern Donbas region where the war is concentrated. Earlier tactics, such as relying heavily on drone warfare, have proven less effective in the face of a better-organized Russian force.
The HIMARS are essentially truck-mounted, GPS-guided rocket launchers with a range of around 44 miles.
A Russian military blogger Andrey Morozov (widely known as "Murz"), quoted by Illia Ponomarenko, the defense and security reporter at the Kyiv Independent,  said Putin's troops were suffering from growing "munitions hunger" due to recent Ukrainian attacks.
Ukraine has released videos of massive explosions depicting how Western military aid is helping to blunt the Russian artillery onslaught in Donbas, where Putin's forces have used their enormous firepower to advance slowly. Insider was not able to verify the video claims.
MORE US ROCKET SYSTEMS ARE ON THE WAY
On Friday, President Joe Biden signed a new deal to send a weapons package worth $400 million to Ukraine. It takes the total amount of aid sent to Ukraine from the US to $7 billion, according to CNBC.
An additional four HIMARS were part of the package, an official told Reuters, bringing the total to 12 supplied to Ukraine.
The new US aid also included more precise ammunition for howitzer artillery systems, Reuters said.
In his nightly video address on Saturday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the US for "the decision to provide Ukraine with a new defense aid package, allowing us to take anti-terrorist steps and reduce Russian attack capabilities."
On Wednesday, President Zelenskyy said, "We finally feel that the Western artillery we received from our partners is working very powerfully."
"Our defenders carry out painful strikes against warehouses and other important logistic nodes of the occupiers. And this materially lowers the offensive potential of the Russian army," he said.
Serhiy Kuzan, the Ukrainian Security and Cooperation Center chair in Kyiv, told The Guardian that the delivery of HIMARS and howitzers have slowed Russia's offensive, forcing them "to be more careful."
"It allows us to participate in what is an artillery duel," he said, per The Guardian. "And with the longer-range rockets, we have destroyed over 20 warehouses of Russian artillery."
Jack Watling, a senior research fellow at the Royal United Services Institute, also told the paper that the military supply from across the West is making a "tactical difference" but added that "Ukraine still has to manage multiple supply chains, relatively small fleets of a lot of different systems, and the ammunition available is very limited."
Ukraine has said it has killed another Russian general, following an attack in which Kyiv's forces used American-supplied weapons.
Serhiy Bratchuk, spokesman for the Odessa regional military, wrote on Telegram about the "liquidation" of Major General Artem Nasbulin, the chief of staff of the 22nd Army Corps "after HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) missiles hit the headquarters in the Kherson region" of southern Ukraine.
It came as Ukraine released footage it said showed a HIMARS attack on a mobile command post in Tavriis'k, in the Kherson region.
If confirmed, Nasbulin could be the ninth Russian general to have died since the start of the invasion on February 24, according to one estimate. Ukraine's claims that it has killed Russian commanders give its forces a considerable PR boost although most of them have not been confirmed by Moscow and Russia's Defense Ministry, which Newsweek has contacted, rarely comments on such losses.
The Telegram post was from Monday night but it was not clear when the attack took place.
Ukraine has said that it has carried out significant strikes against Russian forces using the HIMARS system which is part of a package of military support announced by the U.S. The weapons can hit targets at a range of 50 miles, which is much further than the M777 howitzers, which the U.S. has also given Ukraine.
Before the arrival of the HIMARS, the southern city of Kherson, which Russia seized early on in the war, had been out of reach but Kyiv hoped that the supply of the weapons would help turn the tide of the war against Moscow's troops.
Ukrainian media outlets reported that in an earlier attack, HIMARS allowed their forces to attack a command post in a strike in which they said 12 Russian officers and a colonel were killed.
Meanwhile, footage released by Ukraine shows the missiles striking near the Nova Kakhovka power plant, with Kyiv claiming that it destroyed Russian munitions and killed 200 Russian soldiers, according to a translation of comments by Serhii Khlan, adviser to the head of the Kherson regional military administration.
It comes as Igor Girkin, a former commander of pro-Russian separatist forces in eastern Ukraine, who goes by the nom de guerre of Strelkov, expressed his concern about the firepower that the U.S.-supplied weapons is offering Ukraine's forces.
He wrote on Telegram that in less than a week, Russia has suffered "large losses in both men and equipment" in strikes against at least 10 large warehouses of artillery and other ammunition, several oil depots and a number of command posts. He said that Russian air defense systems have been "ineffective against massive strikes by HIMARS missiles."

Ukrainian F-16s Might Be Armed With The Maverick Missile - Technology Org

Ukrainian F-16s Might Be Armed With The Maverick Missile - Technology Org
Ukraine is waiting for its F-16s. These jet fighters and their future pilots are still being readied. But what will they use for ammo?
The Netherlands is one of the countries that decided to donate its F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. Ukraine is eagerly waiting for them, the pilots are already being trained and the first batch of the Fighting Falcons should be in Ukraine in the coming months.
But a fighter jet without weapons is just a very fast plane.  Defense Minister of the Netherlands Kajsa Ollongren announced that the country is buying a package of weapons for the F-16s donated to Ukraine for 150 million euros. In addition, 200 million euros will be allocated for reconnaissance drones.

One of the more important weapons that the Ukrainian F-16 will receive will be air-to-surface missiles, especially the ones designed for close air support. Part of that package is believed to be the American AGM-65 Maverick missiles, which are quite common, very effective and battle-proven.
The AGM-65 Maverick is an air-to-surface missile that entered service back in 1972, featuring a modular design that allows the use of different warheads and guidance systems depending on mission requirements. The Maverick was designed for close air support, which means that it doesn’t have a very long range. It flies only for around 22 km before hitting the target. These missiles primarily target armoured vehicles, such as main battle tanks and self-propelled howitzers.
The F-16 can carry up to six Maverick missiles. The length of one of those missiles is about 2.4 m, the diameter is 30 cm. The Maverick rocket reaches 1150 km/h and has an electro-optical, IR-seeking or laser guidance system. Although Maverick has been in service for a very long time, these missiles have been updated many times and are very precise. Those six missiles fired by an F-16 are likely to hit six targets.
The defenders of Ukraine are going to use their F-16 fighter jets to defend the country’s skies. They will shoot down cruise missiles, they will try to continue to destroy the planes bombing the Ukrainians with gliding bombs.
But attacks on ground targets will also be very important. The AGM-65 Maverick has been in use for a very long time and is not very expensive. It has proven its advantages in more than one war, and can help burn many Russian tanks and artillery systems.
It is still not clear when Ukraine will get its first batch of F-16s. Some people forecast it is going to happen this summer. However, it will not be announced and the weapons used by them will not be discussed publicly.
