From Margarita Legasova’s book “Academician Valery Alekseevich Legasov”
Steep passes

Being a passionate car enthusiast, Valery Alekseevich has traveled many parts of the country over the last ten years of his life. The geography of these journeys can be traced by my "navigator" notes, which I permanently made on the road.
Three years in a row, in 1980, 1981 and 1982, the two of us went on vacation to Truskavets by car via Bryansk, Kiev, Zhytomyr, Lviv, Drohobych. We returned from Truskavets to Moscow in different ways.
One option – Drohobych, Kovel, Brest-above-Bug, Minsk, Smolensk (with quick sightseeing). Another time we went through Drohobych, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kishinev, Odessa (quick stop by the sea, a visit to the Institute of Physical Chemistry, purely professional meetings with academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR A.V. Bogatsky, a visit to the Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking, a meeting with its Director B. A. Filippov, excursion to the city of Ilyichevsk, to the monastery – the summer residence of Patriarch Pimen), Kiev (meeting with academician, Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR V. I. Trefilov).
The third option: the cities of Stryi, Lviv, Novograd-Volynsky, Zhytomyr, Kiev (inspection of monuments, museums), Bryansk, Moscow. This was our last trip to Ukraine together.
July 1983 - a trip to Estonia via Novgorod (close inspection of Detinets). We visited Leningrad, Kingisepp, Narva, Ust-Narva. Sea, rest in the rest house "Mereranna". We’ve been reading a lot, among other things - the story of I. Grekova "The Widow Steamer", the study by K. Dolgov "The Renaissance and the Political Philosophy of Machiavelli." Valery Alekseevich runs in the morning, does gymnastics, tries not to smoke. Any rest ends, we’re on the way back: Narva, the ancient Ivan-gorod, Kingisepp (formerly Yamburg), Tolmachevo, Luga, Novgorod, Valdai, Vyshny Volochek, Kalinin (now Tver), Klin, Moscow.
We again toured many interesting places by car with children and a dog: Arkhangelskoe, Suzdal, Leningrad and memorable places in its suburb. All together went to a rest house in Estonia, from where we made short trips to Peterhof and Tallinn.
Children had grown up, there were grandchildren, and since 1984, every summer we traveled by car with them. It was this year when our team has been expanded, our three-year-old grandson Misha has joined us. Our route: Novgorod, Sabsk, Kingisepp, Narva (Mereranna rest house).
We read Japanese and Russian fairy tales together, go to flower exhibitions, walk a lot in the neighborhood, collect mushrooms, and cook them. We swim, even though the water is cool, we run (everyone’s trying to do their best), ride on a carousel. With Misha, we collect big rose hips.
Nights are so bright - fabulous white nights!
We buy children's toys and decals, diligently transfer stickers –bothering together. We sit in the dunes by the sea.
Here Valery Alekseevich came up with a rhyme for Misha:
The sun is shining, there is no wind
Misha’s grandfather jumped into the sea ...
(Sorry, I couldn’t translate it to proper rhyme, here’s the original:
Солнце светит, ветра нет
В море прыгнул Мишин дед...)
A year later, on July 28, we left Moscow for Narva with our youngest grandson Valerik, who was born on January 1, 1983. Route: Valdai, Leningrad (on the Bolshaya Neva between the Palace and Kirov bridges, we watched warships and fireworks), Narva.
Two Valery are buiding sand castles. Swimming, running, drawing, reading. The weather is almost always good, but sometimes there are thunderstorms. On the way back, we stopped in Novgorod. Once again, we are walking in the Kremlin Park, admiring the monument Millennium of Russia, and little Valerik really liked the Museum tank.
We returned to Moscow and immediately went to the new circus – our grandchildren, son, Valery and I –the car is full.
Our grandpa sometimes improvised rhymes and charades for his grandchildren. One of them sounded like this:
It bothers you to live in peace,
It breaks down all of your sweet dreams
It makes you deal with
Other people's needs
And yet,
You still live with it,
And caress it with your fingers
You talk to it, and listen to it,
Tell me, what kind of miracle is it?
What's the name?"
We should have guessed that it was a telephone. Everything happened as in a charade. The phone call ended the everyday life of our family on Saturday April 26th ... spring of 1986 - Chernobyl. Grief. Fear.
There was no summer vacation.

I saw this striking portrait of Princess Tatiana Yussupova at the Hermitage. Supposedly a copy of the original Winterhalter portrait. It features the infamously beautiful Princess with her impressive Yussupov Loverknot Diadem, a pearl épaulette and the family estate in Arkhangelskoe in the background. People were dazzled when the Princess appeared at a ball at the Winter Palace wearing her pearl parure. As we can see with a good reason to. The Loversknot design was very popular amongst Royalty and the Nobility of Europe and no less than five versions existed of which one is in possession of HM. The Yussupov's is designed with 19 perfect arches and knots and has pearls suspended from each arch and along the top. The pearl collection ( and the entire jewellery collection) of the Yussupovs was legendary which also included La Pelegrina Pearl. The Loversknot diadem didn't have a happy ending unfortunately. I was was found in the Yussupov Palace along with a big part of their collection and was most probably dismantled. See last picture, with one of its pearls already missing. #london #stpetersburg #hermitage #amsterdam #mooddujour #tiaratuesday #tiara #diadem #diamonds #pearls #loversknottiara #yussupov #imperialrussia #19thcentury #romanov #art #history #jewelrycollectors #winterhalter #aesthetic https://www.instagram.com/p/CH-LsEJn1eb/?igshid=72d40uerg1nf

Tumblr media
For the first time in 100 years Master-Confectioner Aldis Brichevs in Moscow embodied and created the cake "Tatlin Tower" from photographs 1919 of the year. The diameter of the cake was 120 cm., and the height 150 cm. The production of a unique confectionery masterpiece required : 10 kg. fine sugar, 35 kg. powdered sugar, 3 kg. sugar syrup, 2l. vodka, 3 kg. starch. Cake decorated 350 flowers from sugar china and 350 fragments of sugar lace.
Tumblr media
Aldis Brichevs from Riga is a classic representative of the "top class of confectioners". He is the "chocolate magician", "King of confectioners". They call him the king of chocolate, virtuoso and wizard . Aldis , like a magician, with your talent , creates masterpieces. According to historical records, Aldis recreated many famous cakes of Kings and Emperors as a sign of respect, experts awarded him the title of "Master Pastry Chef Historian". Aldis Brichevs, who has already established himself with ambitious projects, is proud of cooperation with the museums of the anniversary. His cakes graced anniversaries :
Empress of Russia Elizaveta Petrovna 300 years – Saint Petersburg Tsarskoe Selo.

Rostov on Don - Life-size piano made of white chocolate weighing over 225 kg.
Saint Petersburg- Giant chocolate Petrovsky ruble . Saint Petersburg- Peter and Paul Fortress made of chocolate. Sbercity Residential Complex in Moscow
20 Sep 2021
Architects: AI Studio
Location: Rublyovo-Arkhangelskoe, Moscow, Russia
Sbercity Residential Complex
The proposed Sbercity Residential Complex site is located within the newly designed masterplan of Rublyevo-Archangelskoe, a territory which occupies 461ha to the west of Moscow. It is a large-scale LEED ND certified project, with aspirations becoming a sustainable, high-tech and harmonious live-work city for business and families. Located on the greenbelt, adjacent to the Moskva river, it is an attractive location less than hour away from the city of Moscow.
The 640 residential unit building complex is comprised of a singular universal block, interconnected on two levels. It thereby suggests a permeable, notional, perimeter block.
Each block is connected to the other as a bridge, which also produces a roof terrace on the free, upper surface of the block below. These terraces are for the leisure use of the residents. On the top-level, the roof terraces have gallery-type rooms above the lift cores with varying functions – a library, a gym, a nursery, a boiler room and a gallery.
The site is divided in two parts where these two concatenating buildings are set. Two five storey universal blocks are connected to each other with a round core. At the connecting points there is a gap to allow access to the mid-level roof terraces. On the top level there are also roof terraces accessible via the core.
The universal block has an adaptable plan, which is organised in two symmetrically mirrored apartment layouts. In order to adapt to the randomly rotated upper volumes, the cores are circular and the corridors around them allow for the organization of entrances to the apartments.
The universal blocks are mainly oriented on a north-south axis so there is flexibility in organising the apartments to be single or double sided, depending on the number of rooms required. The apartments do not have direct views onto each other, because the universal blocks are slightly rotated in respect to each other at a minimum distance of 17m distance.
The facade of the building is made of a combination of flat and curved glass; chrome; black aluminum; concrete; and timber elements. This selection of materials reflects the overall contemporary appearance of the building.
There is a one-level basement car park for 750 vehicles and 106 car-parking spaces on the ground level. The basement has three access points from three sides to allow for the free flow vehicles in the morning rush hour.
Main feats of the building: • 10 identical universal blocks, giving an efficient and exact economic distribution of construction cost • Permeable Urban Plan • Shared Public Spaces • Roof Terraces • Dynamic Shape • East–West Orientation for flexible apartment planning • Integrated Site-Plan • Flexible Commercial Spaces • Street Urbanism
The proposed urban conditions of a residential complex utilising the new, global trend of integration rather than separation, advocating an open, semi-permeable urban fabric with semi-public areas as well as increased security, open visibility, low gentrification, dynamic population and all-round accessible ground floors, a higher liquidity of internal land etc. An open courtyard is visible from the street encouraging a healthy lifestyle not only for residents of the complex but for the city itself. Global experience tells us that permeable residential complexes with increased open space fosters positive communication and discourage es anti-social behavior.
These conditions concentrate on street urbanism, rather than on residential blocks with inaccessible private courtyards. Security is improved thanks to the easy visibility through the complex; inclusion is a prerequisite of openness and society. An open city makes life happier, stronger and more integrated.

Your Moscow Adventure Starts Here
A trip to Russia’s cosmopolitan capital city makes the perfect city break. A city steeped in history, it offers the sumptuous mix of old world Russia with contemporary bars, restaurants, and clubs.
 When To Visit
The weather changes dramatically, depending on when you visit, and so you can pack accordingly. During the summer months, it is pleasantly warm, and you can make the most of the blooming parks and gardens. During July and August, temperatures can sometimes rival those of the Mediterranean. There are fewer crowds during September and October when you can enjoy the stunning autumnal hues. Temperatures plummet from November to February, and you are almost guaranteed a white Christmas. Though it’s cold during the winter months, you can make the most of the stunning snowscapes.
 Historical Moscow
You can’t visit Moscow without a trip to Red Square. Built in the 15th century, it is home to Lenin’s Tomb and separates the Kremlin from the historic merchant quarter. As many Moscow streets lead from the square, it is known as the city’s central square.
Overlooking the Moskva River, the Kremlin is the official residence of the president. The Kremlin attracts thousands of visitors each year and the busiest time is between May and September. It is, therefore, wise to book ahead and secure your tickets. Guided tours are available and will talk you through the highlights of this historic building.
While away a few hours browsing through the Old Arbat area, and take in the buskers, bars, and restaurants. Gorky Park is also not to be missed and boasts numerous cafes and restaurants. During the summer months you can enjoy an outdoor cinema, and in the winter you can go skating on the ice rink.
 Tours
Moscow makes a great base to visit other areas of Russia and beyond. If you’re looking into Trans-Siberian railway holidays for 2017, Moscow is a great place to start and will lead you to many beautiful destinations, across three countries and two continents. You can experience some of the remotest parts of Russia, Mongolia, and China from your cabin window.
You can also enjoy day trips to areas such as Sergiev-Possad and Arkhangelskoe.
 Cultural Moscow
Moscow is home to numerous museums, galleries, and theatres. An evening at the Bolshoi Theatre makes for a romantic and entertaining evening. The Bolshoi ballet and opera companies perform here.
The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts boasts a broad selection of European art, including notable work from ancient civilisations. Collections include stunning Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings.
The State Tretyakov Gallery hosts a unique collection of Russian art which spans a period of a thousand years. What began as a private collection in the 19th century has grown into one of the world’s best collections of Russian icons and pre-revolutionary Russian art.
Whichever time of the year you visit, Moscow has lots to offer. From historical buildings steeped in tradition, to modern, hipster bars and restaurants, there’s something here for everyone. It also makes an ideal base from which to travel to other notable Russian cities and nearby countries.
