Masterlist
Last week, you were invited by the domestic affairs faction to accompany them for an official business trip to Loire, a village located in the southern region of the country and known for its production of the flamboyant rose wines Rhodolite was known for.
However, on the day of the trip itself, Licht decided to stay behind at the palace to train the troops. Meanwhile, both Leon and Jin had other plans as well.
"What do you mean you won't be coming with us?" Yves gawked.
"Don't look so sad, Yves." Jin tousled his hair and teased, "Remember, you have a wonderful lady accompanying you."
He swatted Jin's hand from his head. "That's not even an answer to my question."
"Unfortunately, as much as we want to go on this trip, we have to split teams. We received a few incident reports recently that need some investigating done," Leon explained. "We wouldn't want to reschedule the field inspection, so both of you should still proceed on the trip. Meanwhile, Jin and I will be getting off in town to investigate the marketplace."
Yves raised his eyebrow at them. "How do I know you're both not teaming up to slack off?"
"Meticulous, as always," Leon grinned, before taking on a serious look. "We suspect that there might be more people involved. Among them would be a noble and few soldiers."
"We wouldn't want to put your beautiful lover in a dangerous situation now, would we?" Jin smirked.
"Of course not," Yves stammered. "Why would you even suggest that?"
As Jin and Yves got caught up in their usual bantering, you and Leon exchanged a glance and shrugged. Soon after, the carriage stopped by an inconspicuous building near the outskirts of town.
"This is our stop. Have a safe trip, you two," Leon said, before alighting from the carriage.
"Now, you youngsters shouldn't rush your way back to the palace. Spend a night or two together in Loire, have some fun, or do naughty things," Jin winked.
Before Yves could call him out for his behavior, Jin quickly alighted from the carriage and closed its door. "I can't believe that guy!" Yves exclaimed, his face flushed beet-red. "He's the absolute worst."
"Leave it up to Jin to get you this riled up," you laughed. "At least, we get to spend the day together."
"You're right," Yves agreed. "If we finish the inspection early, we could take a tour around the village."
"Sounds perfect to me," you beamed.
When you gazed out the carriage window, you were amazed by the century-old vineyards that stretched over the fields of the village. As the carriage reached its destination, an overcast shadowed over the fields. With the gloomy skies hovering over them, Yves worried that something would go wrong while they were in the village. Fortunately, the field inspection went smoothly with the help of the vignerons. As they were inspecting the wine cellars, the dull gray clouds finally gave in to the weight they carried.
"With this weather, you might not be able to make it back to the palace, Your Highness," the vigneron informed them. "It is best if both of you stay for a night."
"I suppose we have no choice. With this rain, it would be dangerous for both the carriage and the horse," Yves observed.
"We did prepare lodgings for the royal family if they chose to stay. It may not be as grand as the palace, but the guesthouse is the best place we could offer," he told them apologetically.
You returned the vigneron's words with a grateful smile. "We should be thanking you for providing us a place while we wait for the weather to clear. We appreciate the hospitality."
You and Yves were out on the porch of the small abode watching the rain pour heavily from the outside. The family that owned the guesthouse brought some change of clothes and food to last the night before leaving the two of you on your own.
"I'm sorry," Yves apologized. "I know you were looking forward to exploring the village. I just have terrible luck when it comes to the weather."
“It’s not that bad,” you told him. You held your hand out, feeling the raindrops dance around your palm. "We might not know when the rain will stop, but at least we still have tomorrow."
“What happens if it doesn’t? We don’t always get a chance to go out together like this,” he pouted. “Besides, if it does stop, we would just get mud on our shoes."
Looking at the basket of baked pastries on the table, she suggested. “We can always have a tea party like we always do in the palace.”
Yves was still peeved about the weather ruining their chance of a date. “But—”
You quickly interrupted him by placing your finger on his lips. “It doesn’t matter if it’s rainy or sunny if we go out. I’m already happy enough to be here with you.”
Yves stared dubiously at his lover, who was innocently smiling back at him. He didn’t want to dampen your mood, so he finally gave in to the idea. “You're right. Since it’s raining, we can stay indoors for now and enjoy these treats together. We still have tomorrow to go around the village.”
You smiled mischievously. “Or maybe we can do something else?”
He cocked his eyebrow in response. “What do you mean?” Before he could figure out what you meant, you pulled him out of the porch and into the rain. “W-What?!”
“You always think the rain is always a bad thing,” you said, wrapping your hands around his nape and coaxing him into a slow dance.
As silly as it may be to be dancing in the rain, he couldn't help but give in to your request. He didn't seem to mind having you close and feeling your warmth despite the coldness the rain brought. Though, he couldn't help himself from fussing about your well-being. "What are you even thinking? We could get sick from being in the rain for too long."
"I don't think that's a bad thing," you laughed. "The last time we got sick, we shared the same bed."
"That was when we were not lovers yet, you know."
"You figured you loved me the morning after, didn't you?" you teased. "You even wrapped your arms around me while we were asleep."
"I-I," he stammered, while his cheeks flushed pink. "I was doing that unconsciously! Besides, that was all in the past."
You lightly kissed him on the lips as you both danced in the rain. "So, that shouldn't be a problem anymore. If one of us gets a cold, the other can take care of the other person. If both of us do, then I don't mind sharing the bed with you again."
Yves gazed at his lover's beautiful eyes filled with adoration for him and him only. He loved how your bright and honest eyes expressed joy of being with him when he thought otherwise. Finally letting go of his inhibitions, he decided to treasure the moment instead of making a fuss over it. He took your hands from his nape and twirled you twice. The sudden motion made your hair sprawl over your face, but you didn't seem to mind. Your joyous laughter resounded through the rain, another thing about you he found adorable. As he gently moved the strands of hair off your face, he mumbled, "I must love you so much if I find you this adorable."
With the raindrops pitter-pattering loudly around them, you couldn't hear a word he said. "Did you say something?"
"I said nothing," he quickly denied.
"Hmm? I swear I did hear you mumble something."
"Too bad. If you didn't hear it, I'm not saying it again."
As their dance came to a halt, the sun finally peeked out from behind the clouds. Looking up at him with a proud smile, you confidently said, "See, it wasn't so bad after all."
Watching you smile happily despite wearing heavy and drenched clothes, he contagiously found himself doing the same. "Indeed, it wasn't as bad as I expected." Bopping your nose, he chuckled. "As much as I'm enjoying this, we should have a bath first. I can't let you get sick when we have the whole night and the next day to spend together."
"I wouldn't want that," you replied. He entwined his and your hands together. You took this chance to look at the flowers surrounding the small abode. "We should definitely come back here next month."
"Whatever for?"
I think the flowers would look even more beautiful," you answered, "You know what they say, 'April showers bring May flowers.'"
Both of you never noticed the rainbow that formed behind your backs as you headed back to the small abode.
Meanwhile back at the capital...
"Do you think those two figured out what we were up to?" Leon asked.
"I don't think Yves will until they return," Jin answered. "I was surprised you gave a perfect cover story."
"It was the only way to get them to spend a day together. Although, I did mean it when I said a noble and some soldiers were involved." Leon said, taking a bite of the steak pie. "One of the nobles decided to invest in a tavern and most of its customers are soldiers living in the barracks downtown."
"You lied about the incident reports though. Those were just a bunch of flyers." Jin pointed out.
Leon laughed, "But Yves was right about us teaming up to slack off."
Jin took a sip from his mug of beer. "He is meticulous as always."
"By the way, weren't we supposed to meet Licht?"
The tavern's entrance burst open as an unamused Licht entered. He looked like he came out of a chicken coop with the feathers stuck on his hair.
"There you are," Jin greeted. "We ordered your favorite steak pie. Did Clavis keep you busy all morning?"
Licht looked at the table filled with meat and vegetable dishes, beer, and a pitcher of juice. With a straight face, he took the plate filled with vegetables and dumped all the carrots on Jin's plate then said, "You're eating all the carrots."
